AMAZING!

I've had this movie for years now and every time I watch it I'm stilllaughing my ass off! It shows what it is really like in the cold skitowns of Alaska and Canada. Pig Pen is amazing and reminds me ofmyself. Its a must see.... it goes good with Super Troopers! Its one ofmy favorites... its up there with Bio-Dome... and In The Army Now... Ifyou like snowboarding or movies that are like the ones i listed thenyou'll for sure appreciate what a great movie this was. I wish they'dmake another like it. The snowboarders they got to do the stunts werevery talented and it was even better when they weren't "perfect" anddon't fall. They wipe, and man does the one guy take it hard. GreatMovie!

A film like `Old School,' though visibly stupid, is smart enough to know its place: `Out Cold' is just a big havoc, filled with bad jokes and stupid sex gags.

There's something altogether disturbing about `Out Cold.' It is a sexcomedy, but not nearly as clever as `Old School' or `There's SomethingAboutMary.' Normally I would say that this is because of the PG-13 rating,holding back the film, but in this case not so: If I took a guess, I'dsaythis movie is rated R. It's full of crude sexual humor, not to mentionnudity. No, what really makes this film disturbing is its pride; itthinksit is the next `Animal House,' but it isn't. It's full of clichés: Thetokenblack guy, the big-busted blonde, the druggie, the fat slob, and the goodguy who is falling in love with the already-taken girl. A film like `OldSchool,' though visibly stupid, is smart enough to know its place: `OutCold' is just a big havoc, filled with bad jokes and stupid sexgags.Forgive my ignorance, but I didn't pay much attention to the plot -becausethere isn't a very deep one here. It's about a band of snowboarders, ledby`Dazed and Confused' star Jason London, who try to keep their run-down,Alaskan `Bull Mountain' from being turned into a commercial resortattraction by Mr. Majors (Lee Major's, from TV's `The Six Million DollarMan'). Stupidity follows, hilarity does not.The plot comes in half way through the movie. It is as if the filmmakersjust needed to have an excuse for dropping a bunch of snowboarders on us,sothey came up with something ridiculous to introduce their characters toanaudience. That ridiculous something was the plot of thisfilm.I must say that after a while, one of the characters started to grow onme.The Fat Slob of this movie was actually obnoxiously funny. It's obviousthedirectors of the movie thought they could dupe the audience intomistakinghim for John Belushi. It didn't work, but when The Fat Slob was on screenIhad an OK time. That was about it - the rest of the movie left a drymouthin my taste. Among many sex gags is this: Two men going into a lesbianchatroom and flirting with each other, both pretending they are women andbothmen thinking they are talking to another woman; a man getting histesticlesstuck in a Jacuzzi when he puts it on `suck'; a woman riding a mechanicalbull sensuously (wasn't that done in `Charlie's Angels 2' and just aboutevery other movie ever made that involves blondes in bars?).the list goeson. It's just not funny, it's a bunch of dumb gags.This brings me to my conclusion: The PG-13 rating is a disgrace. I wasastonished to find nudity in this film. Not just once or twice, butnumerousshots of the sides of bare female breasts. This movie flopped at the boxoffice, and it appears that it was so small a film that it even slippedbythe rating system. It pains me to know that a film like "About Schmidt,"amoving film anyone 13 or over should see, gets tagged with an R-rating,yeta stupid, sex-comedy like this breezes by. The MPAA amazes me more andmoreevery day.2/5 stars -John Ulmer

This movie could've been a cult classic, if it didn't suck so bad...

I am one of those people who take stupid comedies seriously. I was raisedon Porky's, Hot Dog (another ski flick), and many other movies about youngslackers bringing down "the man". This movie should have gone all the waywith their jokes (i.e.- the bear eating the salt on the sleeping drunk)...The jokes were setup, with no real finish for the audience to belly laugh atthe climax. It was funnier to imagine what you knew was about to happen,and then splat, the joke falls dead. Too much of that made me think I waswatching a bunch of first time amateurs (ironically most of the primaryproduction crew were first timers, including the writer and directors). By the way, Jason London's long lost love interest in the movie was horribleand not attractive or smarmy enough to be a desirable leading lady. Itreminded me of Sophia Coppola being thrown into the 3rd Godfather flickwithout casting having a fair say. The woman he ended up with (A.J.) wascute and had the right look, but not enough flirting screen time with JasonLondon.Movies that are written poorly only do well when there's more skin and sex,but from the commentary on the DVD it seemed the directors wanted earlyteens to appreciate it. When I was an early teen, nothing excited me morethan watching boobie movies with my friends. 20 years ago we would'velabeled this movie a waste of time and a tease. I was disappointed, andwould suggest people to go into this movie looking forward to the VictoriaSilvstedt scenes. At least her sex appeal never runs dry.

Best. Worst. Movie. Ever.

This movie is HORRIBLE and you should love it.From a cursory glance, this movie looks like a retread of what largernames (Adam Sandler, Chris Farley) have done and failed at, but thismovie is different. THIS MOVIE IS FUNNY. It is pure unclean fun andwhat it lacks in a "message" it more than makes up for with sharphumor.While people may take issue with the subject matter (drugs, dick andfart jokes, boobies), the story and dialogue are exceptional. Thisisn't Les Miserables (or even South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut, takingjabs at society) but it is smart and witty and you'll find jokes on thethird trip that you didn't see before. Give it a try--it's definitelyworth your time.8 out 10: Rated Excellent for Casablanca references, the scene on themechanical bull, and just being absolutely fun.

The Good & the Bad

Well, I am not going to say that this was a bad movie, but I was slightly disaappointed. It is billed as a comedy where it is fun laid back partiers versus the evil developer. Well the fight between the good guys and the bad guys last all of about 10 mins. the rest was just not much.OK, the good, was that the snowboarding in the movie was incredible. The sequences that they pulled off were great. I also found several of the characters to be affable. The love interest in the movie was done quite well. Lee Majors was incredible. I definately think that he nailed his roll as the flambouyant real estate developer. Also, the talkative red neck played a great part. The pranks that are pulled on the guy who is passed out are inventive and funny.THE BAD: I did not find this movie to be all that funny. In fact I did not really laugh all that much. Also, the "King of the Mountain Race" clearly stolen from the classic Hot Dogs did not even come close to living up to it's potential. The only real humorous part in this movie were the pranks played on the passed out guy. Other than that I was left extremely disappointed, and angry with the movie poster that call this Animal House on Ice. How dare someone compare this movie with a true comedy classic.THE SKINNY: If you love good snowboarding sequences, than you should pick this flick up. Just dont expect to much humor as a disappointment is eminent.GOOD comedy Snow FLICKS: Hot Dog, Ski Patrol

I have to admit it, i liked it

This movie was funny funny stuff. I laughed through the entiremovie, i wasnt expecting an oscar winner i hate going to everymovie and people come out of the theater and say "well that wasno american beauty" no s***, not every movie is gonna have tonnesof drama and such, this was just a funny ass movie, veryentertaining which if people dont know by now thats what moviesare supposed to be entertainment and this one pulled it off. 8.7out of 10

development and dilettantism ruined this one

Zak's script was remarkably clever - especially for this genre of film.It was full of classical movie references (everything from Oklahoma! toCasablanca) as Zak, through his writing , acknowledged that writing anoriginal teen comedy is an oxymoron. And so he mined his favorite moviefor material and came up with a fun contemporary boy meets girl, losesgirl, gets girl back, loses girl again story that was an irreverent nodto some old Hollywood greats. Then the D-weasels got a hold of it (Iblame the Spyglass kids primarily). They "toned down" what was bestabout it and gave it to a couple of neophyte hacks to direct. Theresult is cheap knockoff that doesn't know what it wants to be (come on- a sex scene with a Playmate with no nudity??!!), populated by actorsand directors who couldn't understand what Zak was going for and hencecould put no punch into the dialogue. Those of you that like thismovie, I wholeheartedly disagree. It's a bad film. Those that don'tlike it, at least understand that this one started out good and Zakstalent as a writer is solid.

An Excellent Film !!!

Before you see this movie, 2 things are important to know about thisfilm. 1. It is not a snowboard/skiing documentary, 2. It is not anOscar caliber movie. Some people (the older) expect the Oscar, whileothers (the younger) might think of it as a doc., with focus on tricksand riding. I guess thats why disappointed haters come post here. It'smore a 20ish type comedy set in an Alaska ski town. It has a few scenesof some serious snowboard riding, but that is not the primary focus.It is more about the hilarious undertakings of these lovablecharacters, and the choices they have to make to save themselves andsave their town. This movie would make an awesome date movie, and willhave you cracking up throughout. Their a goofy bunch you'll fall inlove with. This movie will also make you miss the mountains and wannahit the slopes. The best pick me up movie on a crappy day. Don't gorent this film, go buy it!! And don't forget the soundtrack, one of thebest EVER featuring Foo Fighters, Weezer, Jack Johnson and others!

One of the best movies Ive ever seen.

This movie is sooooo dam_ hilarious!!!! I loved it!!! I've watched it over and over and don't ever see myself getting sick of it. Great DVD + great price = BUY THIS.

Another Boring Comedy

This movie was compared to "Animal House on Ice"......I don't think so, if anyone actually liked this movie they can't be much older than 15. The box office numbers speak the truth. Awful, just plain awful.

This is the best movie that was ever made ever!!!

I really don't know what more I have to say about this movie than what my title already says. I grew up in the mountains of ski town Colorado and watched the overblown resort mentality trash and destroy my hometown. Somehow, this movie not only does an extremely accurate job of that, but is funny, and amazingly wellcast. I loved this movie. I watch it at least once a week and know ever line by heart. Skiers, snowboarders, and everyone who has never seen snow will love this movie. It is amazing!!!

Just like a comedy from the 80's--only good!

I was surprised by this comedy...obviously not a "good" movie in a CitizenKane or Rashoman sense, but still a very effective comedy. Most of theperformances are up to par, especially the hilarious scene-stealing ZachGalifianakis. Definitely worth a rent if you're in the mood for a goodlaugh. HA! Just like that.

No regrets thats my motto, that and everybody wang chung tonight

Out Cold is a one of my favorite movies to come out. My friend first introduced this movie to me and now I have watch it at least once a month if not more and I don't why I do it. My favorite scene in the movie is the Hot Tub scene with Luke loving it (tub) strong like, very funny. I am not going to explain the story so that is out the window. I recommend watching it and at first when I seen the dvd cover I did not think I would like but I got hooked right away so watch the movie and if you don't like then you wasted 90 minutes of your life (HAHAHAHA!) but I think you will like it.

willing suspension of disbelief

this is quite possibly the funniest film that hasn't won any awardsof all time. the film as a whole isn't very good but it's just soquotable. there are so many great moments that you have to seeover and over again. this movie definitely grows on you. it's one ofthose where someone has to introduce it to you enthusiasticallyfor you to get it. the plot is kind of stupid, but the individualsituations make up for it. carpe the diem...seize the carp andwatch this movie. everyone wang chung tonight!

Fantastic!

This movie is great. I can't understand why it has gotten such low uservotes. It is great fun, and jokes are very original and intelligent ("thecar" joke). Story is your usual boy-wants-girl but it is something thatyouforget when you watch the movie because it's filled with great humor andkeeps you laughing most of the time. A very good home-pop-corn-movie. Seeit, by all means.8/10

Even a blind man could find T and A in this movie; reach out and grab some.

Well, this movie ought to appeal to the teen crowd. The females cansalivate over the young male actors and the male teen audience can spendtheir time adjusting themselves. Otherwise the movie had little going forit. Lee Majors is the only actor with name recognition for me. And whilethe others did okay in their roles very little new was offered in the triedand true script. It was a relaxing afternoon with several out loud laughsand I give it a 7 point score but realize you won't see this one up for anOscar.

Being only one of two people in the world to see this movie twice in thetheaters makes me perhaps what one would consider an Out Cold expert.Afterbuying the movie on DVD (available now in all self-respecting stores) Ihaveenjoyed it four more times, and I have to say that not only does this movienot deserve the current ranking in the 4's, but the movie is far betterthenit is being portrayed. Out Cold is part teenage-gross-out laugh-fest, partOde to Casablanca, part kick-ass snowboarding. This movie is rich in adeep, philosophical plot, in which our protagonist Rick Rambis, is lockedinto a bitter war to keep his life and his town. Bull Mountain has beenhishome forever, and when the departed owner's son decides to sell themountain(to the Six-Million-Dollar-Man Lee Majors, playing John Majors-no relation)Rick and his n'er-do-well comrades must conform to the new ruler. Majorsforesees the Black Diamond in the Rough as the next Aspen, and begins tochange the quaint heritage of the land to conform to his new vision, SnowNook. Rick and his friends decide to rebel and take back the mountain.Andif the rich plot is not enough, it also has Victoria Silvstadt, formerPlaymate of the year, Zach Galifianakis, a great comedian who gets hishelmut stuck in a hot tub, and a cast of tens of...well...tens of extras.The movie was unfortunately passed over at the Oscars for movies that didnot have anyone having sex with a hot tub, that didn't have any playmates,that didn't have the Weezer song "Island in the Sun", nor did it have thegreatest words of wisdom ever in a movie, "No regrets, that's my motte.That and 'Everybody Wang Chung Tonight'".

H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S! absolutely funny! I loved every second!

This isn't a review about the DVD content like most of my reviews are about but here it is:"Out Cold" is a laugh-out-loud funny comedy about what its like to have your mountain taken away. Naw, I'm kidding! Here it is really!A bunch of buddies have their little Alaskan town taken away from them when Lee "Six Million Dollar Man" Majors takes over the town and threatens to change it. But lots of hilarious antics follow. I won't say more. BUY THIS MOVIE NOW OR THE WRATH OF ME WILL COME DOWN UPON YOU, just kidding! best movie ever!

well this film as all I could ask for. Great cast and great ideas. Theplot is normal but the characters make the entire film laugh out loudfunny. Funny and original comical situations. This is a must see if youlike snowboarding, or hate it. When I head up to Vermont every winter Ihave a tradition to watch Out Cold before I hit the mountain! It hasall the elements of an Animal House "on ice." The fact that they are InAlaska just adds to the humor, who the hell lives in Alaska? I guess ifyou do, and you're in your mid 20's you work/live on a "Bull Mountain."And the good guy gets the girl, there is a crazy old regular that makeseveryone crazy, and the drunk brothers make everyone laugh. And ofcourse they all get together to "save the mountain" from the evil MoneyMan. Aaah I love this film, I'm gonna go watch it right now.
