Nowhere to Land

Over 300 people are believed to be held hostage in a Boeing 747 enroute from Sydney, Australia, to Los Angeles, California. The plane, under command of veteran pilot Captain John Prescott, is two hours from land however, early reports suggest that a biochemical device hidden onboard the plane is timed to detonate within the hour. The device, believed to contain a nerve gas ten times deadlier than the Sarin gas released in a Tokyo subway in 1995, is reported to be tied to a countdown trigger with less than an hour remaining. Apparently disguised within passenger carry-on luggage, the bomb seems to have been planted not by a political terrorist, but by a madman acting in hopes of revenge. Alerted to the mans presence in Australia, both governments have begun the chase. The American FBI, present in Australia for security preparations in advance of the upcoming 2000 Olympic Games, have dispatched agents to work in collaboration with Australian police forces. Details at this point are unofficial, but sources indicate that the suspects general whereabouts are known, and that active pursuit is currently in process. The world is holding its breath in hopes that the pursuit will be successful in time to save the lives of the 300 passengers currently at the mercy of a madman.

Decent, But Nothing Out Of The Ordinary

A pretty standard airline suspense story about a bomb planted on a 747on a flight from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles. There's some decentsuspense, but the whole thing is pretty cliché (time clock clickingdown to the last few seconds, the usual brief shots of faces taut withthe strain, etc.), and the performances are average at best. What really bugged me in this movie was why the writers felt the needto have an FBI agent conveniently present in Sydney when the threat wasphoned in, and not only present but becoming front and centre in thesearch for the bomber. Maybe I'm being too sensitive here, but I rathersuspect that the Australian police wouldn't need the FBI's help in whatseemed to be a pretty routine piece of policework. That just made thewhole thing too American-centred (with no discernible reason or needfor it) for my liking.Overall, though, it's an average to decent movie. 5/10.

Good, Solid, Airplane Disaster Movie

The plot is simple. A disgruntled ex-husband sabotages a plane his ex-wife and new husband are on as if to say "If I can't have her, no one will" with a bio-chemical bomb he placed on board. Good, tense, solid airplane disaster movie that somewhat shadows the 1966 TV-Movie "Doomsday Flight" with real hard edge-of-your-seat suspense. A fine addition to the "library" of airplane disaster movies. Don't miss this one!!

Shot Down in Flames

Could it be possible for a film to have any more worncliches as this film? Another airliner in trouble.Another heroic captain saving the passengers fromcertain doom. There was absolutely zero suspense and zero originality here. As the plane's pilotJack Wagner was awful. All smirk and smarm and nohint of realism. When making your viewing reservationsbe sure to book another flight. This one was groundedfor mechanical defects.

I'm certain we passed a perfect spot a little further back

This happened to be on, and I wasn't really doing anything else at thetime. It's a made-for-TV thriller about tension on an airborne plane. Those tend to be pretty formulaic, and this is certainly no exception. It's average as they come, if it'll basically get the job done. Thedevelopments are all entirely predictable(care to take a guess ifanyone panics?), and some of the dialog is really poor. With twoexceptions, the cast is all nobodies, and it shows; the acting variesgreatly, and there are definitely cases of scenery-chewing. None of thecharacters are memorable. The development of them is decent. Anyway,Jack Wagner takes a break from appearing in the fantasies of femaleMelrose Place viewers and returns to the small screen, and he'senjoyable enough to watch. Ernie Hudson brings some of his coolness tothis, but as you may already know, his presence does not on its own agood flick make. The suspense and such are fine, if you just rememberto pretend you don't know exactly where things are going. Honestly, youdon't need to have seen any of these to be able to tell, the clichésare known by most. The way it's shot and edited is OK. I recommend thisto fans of this kind of movie. 5/10

One of TBS's best originals!

This is a great show. They put suspense into saving, not the world, but asingle 747. And it's no secret agent doing it. It's just a regular pilot. And his co-pilot. Original plot about a psycho out for revenge. He bombs aplane, and while they have to disarm it, the FBI's gotta catch him inorderto find out how to disarm the bomb. When he dies, the greatest (and almostonly) hope for the plane explodes itself. What's kind of stupid is themoment they think they've disarmed the bomb- almost the very second- theylearn there's a back-up trigger. But it's still a lot of suspense for 1plane. I'm impressed with TBS.

Perhaps Somewhere to Land (Spoiler)

Spoiler: At one point the plane has descended below 5000 feet and noproblems. Did the plane have enough fuel to make it to, say, Denver orsomeother city or field with a higher elevation? That way the plane could landwithout triggering the device.
