Trained since childhood to be a lethal killer, Raizo has since turned his back on the Ozunu clan that raised him and now seeks revenge for their heartless murders. Teaming up with Europol investigator Mika, Raizo steadily butchers his enemies while inching ever closer to the long-awaited bloody reunion with his former master.
This movie knows exactly what it is: Gonzo silliness about bodies turned into human salsa.
This review is from: Ninja Assassin [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) The fantastic story combined with some of the most advanced cinimatic magic makes Ninja Assassin the most exciting, graphic, action packed movie full of suspense and special effects that look amazing. This is a movie worth the extra couple dollars for the BlueRay. The digital sound and picture quality makes the movie just as dynamic as it was on the silver screen. I love this movie!
I bought this movie just from seeing the trailer and it was worth it. The action and fighting scenes were great. My wife thought it was too gross with the body chopping off and flying everywhere but I enjoyed it. I haven't seen many ninja films before, mostly kung fu fighting such as Jet Li and Jackie Chan movie but this one is as good. The star action "Rain", I only heard of him once, but he sold me on the fighting. The training for the actor was excellent since I knew he worked hard to make it looked great on film. Definately recommending this.
When you name your movie 'Ninja Assassin'....It does not do anyjustice...The film is about a rouge Assassin who tries to go after his master andthe notorious organisation that trained him to be a killer. I wasgob-smacked when I sat with a friend and his 'mate' who told me thatthis film was like the movies they make in 'Asia'....I laughed so hardthat my ribs began to hurt...I mean please...The action scenes are toofast and in the dark half the time...The script is poor, the dialogueis even poorer...Do not dare compare this movie with some of Asian Cinema's finest....
Being a serious martial arts fan (especially ninja flix), i was veryexcited while waiting for this film to be released. However...i wasvery disappointed. I guess i was anticipating something along the linesof an updated version of "Enter the Ninja"or"The Hunted". Don't takethis as me slamming it cause im not. For what it is the movie isn'tbad. I was filmed nice, and seeing Sho was a bonus,he was one of myheroes as a child. Anyway... what disappointed me was there wasn'tenough attention paid to the art of ninjitsu. I would have liked tohave seen more training sequences, more fight scenes, and for the mainninja character to actually have worn the ninja suit at least once. Also the outfits could have been a little more modern (as in BatmanBegins)... those ninja suits were marvelous... and my final bugaboo iguess would be that the main character is a singer/dancer and not amartial artist. Oh well... thats my 2-cents. Hopefully the next Ninjafilm will be a little more serious. The greatest ninja films of alltime co-starred Sho-Kosugi,maybe he'd be an excellent for the next oneas well. Maybe a re-make of his some his earlier films. One can onlyhope.
-- Rama's SCREEN --Badass is not enough to describe how awesome NINA ASSASSIN is. BruceLee would be proud. Step aside Tony Jaa (Ong Bak) there's a new martialart hero in town and his name is Rain. Swift, stealth, bloody andbrutal, you'll never know what hit you. NINJA ASSASSIN is one of thecoolest, pulse-pounding action flicks of the last decade, it's the moststylized since 300. Well choreographed, stunning FX, this movie willsatisfy the desires of every action fanboys out there. Don't think toomuch, don't stay in the dark, cause that's when they'll come for you.NINJA ASSASSIN may not be completely about Ninjas but it does play onmost myth we've heard about Ninjas, at least the stereotypicalpre-conceived notion that Westerners have always had about Ninjas butwhat makes this movie fun to watch is that it amplifies itself toexcite today's audiences, it aims to please and nothing more. Those ofus who grew up watching all kinds of martial art action films from theclassics to Van Damme will watch NINJA ASSASSIN and will feel likewe're watching an 'orgy'.One kick-ass shot after another. The way they use every Ninja weaponpossible will blow your mind. We're talking' 5-10 Ninjas attackingRaizo (Rain) but unlike Jason Statham who somehow could always manageto kick 20 people in one scene, Raizo can get hurt and often timeshe'll find a way to escape and fight another day, not because he's acoward but because he's aware of his limits and well, those Ninjas arecrazier than anybody that Statham ever encountered on screen. That said, NINJA ASSASSIN is not pure stuntwork like Jaa's films. Partof collaborating with producers Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix) is theimportance of incorporating FX in the right dosage and it's effective. In a way, NINJA ASSASSIN even seems like it's paying homage to 300 andSin City because there are sequences and cinematic set pieces, reminiscent of a graphic novel adaptation.Matthew Sand came up with the story for NINJA ASSASSIN, the story whichI think is just as engaging as the fights. But it is not without flaws,it's a bit silly to imply that only female would want to escape theharsh life of ninjas. And it's great to emphasize the heart but theeffect will wear out if you keep mentioning the subject too often. However, the 'betrayal begets blood' resonates loud and clear. The clandemands revenge and so does Raizo vice versa but Raizo understands thathe can't fight all of them by himself, not until the time and theassistance are right. The graphic violence level of NINJA ASSASSIN is without mercy. Some maycome off as over the top but I wouldn't want it any other way. Some Ithink would be interesting to watch if it were in 3D. Director JamesMcTeigue's previous work, V For Vendetta was more philosophical, NINJAASSASSIN on the other hand is more about kill or be killed, plain andsimple. These are fictional characters raised to be more than justhumans ever since they were children, to neglect pain, to defy the lawsof biology and physics, to unleash their skills with nothing less thanperfect. To have such deadly characters but a violence level that's notup to par or pushes the edge would be unsatisfying.Actingwise, I think Rain does a fantastic job as the Raizo, I now havenewfound respect for the training that he had to go through to prephimself for the role. You would wish you could apply the same greatamount of dedication when facing physical challenges. Maybe it's justme but for some reason, Rain's voice or the way he says his lines, being that he plays a man with a few words, somewhat reminds me ofClint Eastwood back in his cowboy days. But actor Ben Miles who playslead investigator and Naomi Harris who plays Mika, are 2 terribleactors. It's as if NINJA ASSASSIN hired 2 mediocres from SAW franchise.Where is Zoe Saldana or even Thandie Newton when you need them? Butthen again, the movie is not about them, it's about Raizo and a clan ofninjas who are out for his blood. So just sit back, brace yourself andbe amazed.-- Rama's SCREEN --
I watched this movie again and I forgot how violent it was. It is filled to the brim with action, suspense, and lots of blood. A deadly ninja named Raizo is being hunted down because he turned his back on the Ozunu Clan. He teams up with an Europol agent named Mika Coretti. Mika is investigating money linked to political murders and finds that it is connected to the Ozunu Clan. Raizo and Mika head to the clan's base and Raizo finally has an ultimate showdown with the master who trained him. I highly recommend NINJA ASSASSIN!!!
This review is from: Ninja Assassin [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) This is a superb film with great action sequences and a pretty good story for a martial arts film.I got this on import the other day and I'm sure the american version was actually more brutal and gory than the english one - just going by memory?!The HD transfer is superb and highly detailed and the fact that it comes with dvd and digital transfer for the PSP (or any other mp4 player?) is a bargain. This also works on european players with no problems! Huge bonus - as it seems to be a kind of russian roulette nowadays with whether-or-not an import blu ray will work or be 'region locked'!!??Recommend to all martial arts film enthusiasts all around the world!
I feel that a 4 is generous for starters. Let's first of all start withthe complete lack of plot. I mean these are the same guys that broughtus V for Vendetta and then they give us this nonsense. The horribleplot which is usually forgivable in an action flick just feels sooverplayed throughout the entire film. You also feel no connection tothe characters at all. Frankly that's all you can even say about it.The action is laughable and yea there is tons of gore but it looks soterribly fake you'll be laughing the entire time. Frankly the best recommendation I can give is consider getting it onbluray if only to show off your home theater setup but most of the filmis so dark its hard to even consider that. I'm sorry if I seem harsh but this movie didn't even manage to keep memildly entertained
This movie has a lot of blood in it, but as a Ninja movie this is a given. Some pretty gruesome parts, but nothing that any other horror movie hasn't already shown. Not a movie for kids though, for Mature audiences only. Now that's out of the way, this movie was fantastic. Superb and I mean superb Ninja fighting action. Moving in the dark, stealthy, and fast action paced moves. Very good movie. Most of it was Ninja action and the end was just fantastic. A great movie for any Mature adult who likes Ninja's or Street Fighter.
All the bloody splatting and fast editing mean that it doesn't matter what's real or not real in Ninja Assassin.
It's a ninja story for goodness sake, but McTeigue and his writers are on the prowl for something epic, puncturing the potential of the film by taking it all so very seriously.
Ninja Assassin is possibly the most ingenious self-explanatory titleever bestowed upon a film. It is about ninjas, who are of courseassassins, assassinating the hell out of anything with two legs and 300gallons of blood. With this set-up, one can only imagine the amount ofkung-fu fighting goodness that a film called Ninja Assassin woulddeliver. Non-stop sword fighting, shadow crawling stealth, supernaturalpowers, you name the ninja stereo-type and this movie's got it. Andyet, while it delivers on its promises, its failure is that it bringsmore than just hyper-stylized martial arts sequences to the door. Ientered the theater with low-expectations for a story, just wanting toshut off the brain for an hour and a half and watch ninjas do ninjathings. With a beautifully gory introduction, I thought my hopes wouldbe satisfied. A ninja was in a room, assassinating people. All was wellwith the world. Then it cut to a Europol headquarters in Berlin. Assoon as Naomie Harris entered the screen I woefully realized that thisfilm was actually going to attempt to make a coherent plot for a filmcalled Ninja Assassin. That's right, her character Mika begins to delveinto the mysterious world of the ninja, finding links between them andinternational murders with relative ease. It was starting to look bad. Then I'm treated to Rain (the greatest name any Asian has ever taken, ever) doing ninja type things and training in a room. Flashbacks to howhe became a ninja and an outcast ensue. All-in-all, the first half hourto forty-five minutes is dreadfully dull. A film where people bleedcopious amounts of cgi-rendered blood does not have any placeattempting to establish a heart. Thankfully, the film managed to saveitself from a complete coma-inducing null-fest back to a high octanegore-fest toward the middle. Unfortunately, these scenes relied tooheavily on wire work and cgi effects to really enter the realm ofvisceral, energetic fighting flicks such as The Protector. If you canstand a painfully overdone plot, slow flashbacks, and cheesy effectsthen Ninja Assassin is a pretty decent movie for what it is. Nothingspecial, but something that missed its potential.
I rate this movie a nine out of ten because it is a movie that I cansit and watch once a week. I could watch this movie over and overagain. I absolutely love Raizo's character and if they made a sequel Iwould definitely want to see that as well. The movie did really wellhighlighting the bad assness that is a ninja assassin. The fightsequences were amazing. When Mika releases Raizo from his shackles andthey try and escape together Raizo realizes that Mika is making way tomuch noise to escape without incident so he leaves her standing in thedark and uses her as bait. When they come for her bam he flies intoaction. He sends her for the car knowing that she is a slow moving meremortal and heads for the highway. He then lets us and Mika know thatshe did not happen to find him fighting on the highway and save himfrom his antagonist "I was waiting for you" is what he tells her,CLASSIC. Raizo is so dangerously and taciturnly sexy.
Ninja Assassin is a strange one. It starts out with a bloody bang that is awesome, but there is no more awesomeness for another forty minutes or so. I was really struggling to stay awake while watching the boring plot unravel with boring characters. The gore is pretty much the only thing about Ninja Assassin that I liked. Everything else is deadly dull. Where's Bruce Lee when you need him?
The rotten cliches pile up faster than the bodies in this Z-movie disaster. A total dud start to finish.
Maybe 50 minutes into the 96-minute running time, the film goes south as quickly and decisively (if not quite as badly) as any I've ever seen.
Ninja Assassin takes some elements from classic history, adds a dash of over-the-top action and fight scenes, and hits 'frappe'... on the cast. There's tons of gore. Granted, a lot of the action is enhanced with CGI, but if you can get past it, you're in for a fun ride. The protagonist spends just enough time between garnering sympathy and dishing out death. And he's not some invulnerable hero - he gets the stuffing kicked, cut, and whipped out of him.The Blu-Ray is awesome indeed. There are a few behind-the scenes bits, one of which includes some commentary by Stephen K. Hayes, a well-known and real-world American ninja. Also included is a featurette on the lead actor, Korean pop star Rain, showing some of the grueling training he underwent. After viewing, it is revealed that every stunt man in the film was in one way or another either a highly trained martial artist or parkour artist. All in all, it's a great popcorn flick to just turn off your brain and enjoy. And by the end, you'll want to see Rain doing another martial arts film, guaranteed.
The main cast of "Ninja Assassin" is Rain, the pop-superstar from SouthKorea. I had a doubt before watching thiz movie, that Rain couldperform convincing in this kind of genre. The movie directed by JamesMc Teigue, and supported by Wachowski Brothers ("The Matrix", 1999). McTeigue, we remembered him on his last film, "V for Vendetta" (2005). Inthis newest feature, Mc Teigue improved with more actions andstraight-to-the-point plots. The Actions however had a few weaknesses. The fight-scene is too fast and not focus, despite the special effectalready in right measurement. The only thing that I like on thizmovies, is for the first time Ninja's aura was revealed better onHollywood movie. The Rain's performance was not stable. In one scene hecould be an unmerciful Ninja, but on the other scene he shows softercharacter. I remembered in one scene, when Raizo (Rain's character),was being watched on interrogation room. One police said, "He's notseems like a Ninja to me,..It's more like a boy-band member". Don'tblame him, he is: a boy-band.Visit My Blog on JONNY'S MOVEE : http://jonnyfendi.blogspot.com
Decent ingredients but, as a whole, this is lacking in choreographic flair and plot substance.
