Larry Daley just cant keep hold of a steady job, but he begins to think there may be hope at last as he is hired as a night watchman at the Museum of Natural History. Everything goes well on the first night for Larry. That is until everything within the Museum start to come to life. Larry now has a choice to make. Either continue on finding another job or manage everything that comes to life, which includes tiny Romans and Cowboys, a skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and Teddy Roosevelt.
Movie Photos:
We have taken some photos of "Night at the Museum". They represent actual movie quality.
I am a 15 year old Male. I am a HUGE fan of Wilson and Stiller but thismovie was at the bottom of the barrel. I only laughed out loud at PaulRudd's two lines. If you are a parent you
Great show of special effects and Robin Williams does a very good job as Teddy Roosevelt! The plot with the humans is a bit lame, but the rest makes up for it. And to see a dinosaur playing fetch is funny.
A great movie for everyone to enjoy. It moves at a great pace and keeps you entertained.A must see for the whole family.
Very cute movie.A 'must see' for the entire family!
Well, I think Robin Williams makes ALMOST as good a TR as Tom Berengerin Rough Riders. I"m not a great Ben Stiller fan, but he's great as aninept night guard. Good action, nice interplay. But I have one commentwhich should go in the 'Goofs' Section. The uniform TR is wearing, is of the US Volunteer Cavalry. The color isKhaki, a dark tan. The trim is supposed to be deep gold or yellow thetraditional color for cavalry. But I can say for sure the filmmakersdidn't do their research on this one. Perhaps they felt it wasn'timportant enough to get Dale Dye or R. Lee Ermey in on this. A famousphoto of TR at the time of his triumph at San Juan Heights shows himfrom the chest up, in a three-quarter view. He's wearing a dark tan, beat up slouch hat with the crossed cavalry sabers, the tunic with thesame sabers and 'USV' on the stiff collar. The photo was taken by an old type of camera which used an emulsionsensitive to certain wavelengths of light, such as yellow. So in thephoto, the yellow shows as being dark, almost black. It's an illusion. And Robin Williams is wearing a uniform perfect in every detail BUT forthe dark blue collar, epaulettes and cuffs. Rough Riders got it right. It was obvious they found that pic, and copied it perfectly withoutchecking. As a military history buff, it kind of ruined the film for me. I wasvery impressed with Williams' semi-serious TR and wanted to believe hewas Teddy. But the glaring uniform mistake was a sign of very sloppy'assumption' film-making. I couldn't get past that. Yeah, I Kvetch alot. Sue me. Otherwise, a lot fun.
Night at the Museum came through on both the realistic effects and onproviding an actual moral to the story. Maybe the moral was theinfluence of Robin Williams who plays a minor but pivotal role in themovie. There are a couple of places in the movie where you mightactually discern the computer generated graphics, but for the amountneeded to create the movie they did well.It was nice to see some familiar faces who you may not have seen on thescreen in a few years. Dick Van Dyke brings his usual comedicperformance and is still showing some of his limber moves. MickeyRooney and Bill Cobbs both shine again, each showing their trademarkperformances as well.I will not spoil the movie for you but I will say stay for the credits. You always need one last laugh. Go see the movie and prepare from somelaughs and a little bit of sympathy from this fairly decent line-up ofstars.
Night at the Museum is a great film for the whole family with all kindsof laughs and value abounding! Ben Stiller delivered an excellentperformance and so did legends Dick van Dyke, Robin Williams and MickeyRooney. Many newer actors, such as Carla Gugino (Spy Kids Movies) alsodeliver greatly. The Basic Plot: Hard on his luck Larry Daily (Stiller) has had to putup with evictions, loss of jobs and a divorced ex who has custody overhis young son. His luck changes when he earns a job as a night guard atthe natural history museum...where the original night shift, Cecil(Dick van Dyke), and his two accomplices, Gus (Mickey Rooney) andReginald, are planning to retire. What he doesn't realize is that hewill be in for the ride of his life, for when the lights go off and thenight is young, everything in the museum comes to life...LITERALLY!!!This is all because of a curse caused by an ancient Egyptian tabletbrought to the museum in the 1950s and has impacted the museum eversince. Is Larry the one who can fix the curse and stop a villain, orvillains from stealing the tablet? This film is an 8/10 performance recommended for the whole family.
I'll say it right up front, I have never liked Ben Stiller or his movies. However, this one is an exception. So those of you who are like me, do yourselves a favor and watch this movie. It's funny, decent and an overall good time. Ben Stiller is very good in this movie, I hope it will be a foretaste of things to come from a talented person who, heretofore, has wasted his talents.
This movie is another classic case of the previews showing too much oreven all of the high points of a movie. Based on the previews, I was soanxious to see the movie, but the previews showed so much of the "neatstuff" that there wasn't any real surprise when watching the wholemovie. It was fast paced enough to keep the attention of my 7 year old, though - and he really liked it. It was probably a 3 or 4 for adultsand a 7 or 8 for kids. My son was thrilled with the dinosaur coming tolife (which was again spoiled by the previews already showing thatpart). It was still a cute movie that I would probably watch again, butnot at full box office price. I was also a little shocked at the smallpart Robin Williams had in the movie.
I just saw this movie and it is seriously one of the best family moviesever! I have personally been to the museum in the movie before andalmost everything was accurate , except some additions I had never seenbefore, such as the very elaborate Egyptian section of the museum. Veryfunny and mostly appropriate jokes. The only "bad word" I caught in theentire movie was "kissass," which I'm sure is nothing compared tolanguage in movies out in the theaters these days. Some parts of themovie are actually educational and somewhat accurate, such as theinformation they give about the Huns. Pretty good acting all around, and some of the characters, such as the little monkey (I think his namewas Dexter), were VERY cute.
I knew this would be a fun little flick, but boy I was surprised. Nightat the Museum is a comedy I enjoyed, #1: Because I like museums, #2:The theme got me hooked onto it, and #3: It was funny and told a verygood story at the same time.Ben Stiller plays an ordinary man who is fired from his last job. Se hebecomes a night guard at a museum in New York, but these three old guystry to kidnap a valuable item that makes the exhibits in the museumcome to life every night.A good story, and a cast of funny and unforgettable characters. Ithought it was a really good movie, take the family to see it, and beamazed. I think the bits with Stiller and the monkey "Dexter" arepretty funny.A 10 out of 10.
Ugh. Night at the Bad Movie aka Night at the Museum. This has got to be one of the worst films I've seen all year. If myaunt hadn't asked me to join my little cousins in watching it, Iwouldn't have come at all. And, being the sort of person that likes torank on bad films as much as possible, I'm gonna suck my 5.50's worthout of it. Like John Tucker, this is one that was not made for myaudience, but man oh man did it still suck on so many levels. Rememberwhen kids films, while not being works of art, were accessible from alldifferent ages? Between Madagascar, Cars, and this piece of sh!t, I'mbeginning to feel that kids films are to be enjoyed by kids and loathedby anyone whose age ranks in the double digits.First off, Ben Stiller sucked. The man is funny if tempered into theproper character with the proper script, but his nerdy "Meet theParents" shtick wears it's thinnest yet.The kid who plays his son can'tact to save his soul, and I nearly fell asleep on four separate points.I'm not sure why the fact that Ben Stiller can't hold onto a job is ofsuch disappointment to his son, but being that his son spends theentire film, no matter what emotion the scene calls for, with a vaguegrin, I'm guessing he's gone to the Keanu school of acting. Also, remember when kids movies were funny? Well if you like pee jokesand Ben Stiller whining at computer generated dinosaurs and monkies, this is a goldmine. The film has Robin Williams and Ricky Gervais, butboth are on such tight leashes to avoid anything remotely offensive orfunny that you wonder why they hired any comedians to do this film. Ilaughed once, at a Gervais scene that I'm positive was an improv. DickVan Dyke and Mickey Rooney are in this film, a disheartening thing I'msure for their fans. There is hardly an original aspect to this film if you've so much asglanced at "The Indian and the Cupboard" book or movie, or watchedJumanji (which, flawed and cartoonish as it was, was still light-yearsahead of this movie in quality and humor). I think there's a moralsomewhere in this film, but like all the comedians and elderly actors,it's purely window dressing.I know what you're thinking, "But Joey, surely the movie isn't THATinsufferable? There must be SOMETHING good in it?" You're right. Thereis. There's an extended trailer for Spiderman3 and a cool scene fromthe second Fantastic Four movie before this movie starts. The music ispretty. The animals are pretty. Steve Coogan and Owen Wilson make forcute little micromachine figurines. The rest of this film is aninsufferable mess. It gets a D-
This is the best movie I have seen in such a long time. After we rented this movie, we immediately went out and bought it and have watched it an uncountable number of times already. I typically cannot stand Ben Stiller in anything, and granted he does stick in some of his signature annoying attitudes that make me cringe each time I watch it, but I am able to forgive those because the movie as a whole is fantastic. I have never so thoroughly enjoyed watching a movie. My son calls it the (make a dinosaur roaring sound) movie. He's 2 yrs old. The personality of all characters was developed well and you fall in love with them all.
I had very low expectations regarding this film. I am a fan of Stiller, and his Frat Pack entourage, and usually find them all very funny! However, I personally did not see how this movie could work. It allseemed a bit too far fetched for me, and with a director like ShawnLevy, who's been at the helm of some serious disasters, I felt this washeaded the same way.I am pleased to announce that I was entirely wrong, and I couldn't bemore thrilled about that. This film has no business at all being arespectable comedy, and yet somehow I found myself genuinely laughingat the film rather than sitting with a small grin due to the ridiculousnature I expected.Furthermore, I found myself developing an emotional attachment tocertain characters - Steve Coogan and Owen Wilson in particular - bothof whom jointly steal the show! With this film, against all myexpectations, I genuinely found myself hoping that all would turn outgood!Of course this film isn't going to win any awards, at least not theones that are considered important - and that is meant as nodiscrimination against MTV etc. However, for pure feel goodentertainment, and a lot of laughs, Night At The Museum Is Perfect. Itis good innocent fun, and there is no real reason why the whole familycan't go and see it. There is something for everybody!Well done to Mr. Levy for a surprisingly good film by his standards, and well done to everyone else involved in the process. 7/10
On Martin Luther King Day (which this year actually fell on hisbirthday, January 15), my friend and I, both on our off day, took in amatinée show of this Ben Stiller movie that had been No. 1 at the boxoffice for the last three weeks. My friend had also wanted to take hisnephew but the nephew had already seen it and he rarely sees somethingmore than once. We both enjoyed it though I have to admit it does get alittle silly some in the night museum scenes with nary any real laughs. The funnest lines and performance comes from Mickey Rooney when wefirst see him and he gives Stiller an attitude on his first day as anight watchman. There's also some funny slapstick scenes involvingStiller even before he gets his new job. Surprisingly, the same can'tbe said about Dick Van Dyke, usually known for his physical anticsthough it was nice to see him and Rooney together again since The Comicin 1969. Also pretty good were Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais, and as TeddyRoosevelt, Robin Williams, more subdued than usual. Also appearing wereKim Raver from "24" and "The Nine" playing Ben's ex-wife and thestunning Carla Gugino as the museum tour guide who seemed like apossible love interest for Stiller (maybe that would be explored moreif there were a sequel). So, in summation, I found the beginning prettyfunny, the middle uneven, and the end mostly enjoyable with a prettygood mix of laughs, heart, and wonderment that the whole family canenjoy. And stay for some of the closing credits for some wonderfulextra scenes with Rooney, Van Dyke, and Bill Cobbs. Also look forStiller's mom, Anne Meara, as a woman trying to get Ben a job.
This is a very interesting and amusing movie. Sure, there is slap stick but it just adds to the over all fun of the movie!! I have enjoyed watching it several times already and it is fun to just let your imagination run wild!!!
Night at the Museum probably would've been a lot more enjoyable if it wasn't for Ben Stiller and his lame acting. This film was a box-office smash but that doesn't mean the movie is good. It just means people like to watch silly garbage. The special effects is why I give this movie two stars, everything else is pretty boring. Of course, you have Robin Williams over-acting again, he hasn't done a flawless performance since, One Hour Photo. This movie is designed for children so I recommend this movie to them. Ben Stiller needs to take an acting class and he's not funny either. Snooze....
I can't understand why Owen Wilson doesn't appear anywhere in thecredits of this movie, and not even in your website, as one of theactors. I can't find his name!! He is one of the main characters in it!Otherwise - A great movie - beautifully done. I love the combination ofthe tiny people with real life people - looks very real. It also showyou that at the museum - Hstory really comes to life. Ben Stiller isbrilliant - the perfect actor for the job. He always plays well ascrew- up. And come back as a winner. And I have always been a fan ofDick Van Dyke - since Chitty Chitty Bang Bang & Mary Poppins. MickyRoony also brings back fond memories. And Robin Williams - well he isone of the most versatile actors ever - he can play almost anything.
This is an entertaing show. It does however contain some very slow places.
This is a light-hearted special effects filled movie for the entire family. The premise is fairly simple:An ancient artifact within the museum has caused everything in the museum to come to life at night for the past fifty years. If anything gets out, and is out come sunrise it will turn to dust. Ben Stiller is the new night watchman that must try to keep things under control while the exhibits go wild, and some ne'er do wells (shame on those of you that have given away the identity of the crooks in your reviews) that want to steal the artifact. This is a fun movie that the entire family can enjoy. The only real objectionable part that comes to mind is that the monkey urinates on Stiller at one point. I personally don't find that kind of humor appealing, but it was the only instance of that type of humor, so I let it go.If you are bothered by unresolved plot threads or plot holes, then you may want to pass on this. There were a few things that kind of make you scratch your head as to the believability of what is happening. I understand that this is a movie about museum exhibits coming to life, but the best movies of this genre will help you suspend your disbelief and accept what is happening. This one tends to get you to the point of supending that disbelief, and then do something so cheesy as to make you groan. There were instances where things seemed to happen because the writers had written themselves into a corner, and needed an easy way out. The most glaring flaw in the movie to me was towards the end. Stiller's character has finally come to grips with his new job, and the "badguys" show up to steal the artifact. Thay are all apprehended one at a time, but the viewer never sees any resolution to what happens to them. There is no mention of a call to the police, and we never see them carted off by the police. As a matter of fact Stiller is nearly fired due to the condition of the museum rather than hailed as a hero by his boss (who should be grateful that Stiller saved the day). It was almost as if the theft part of the script were shot after the movie wrapped as an effort to throw in a little more action, but they forgot to include the resolution of that major thread in the movie. All in all I enjoyed the movie as a mindless effects filled romp that I could comfortably watch with my 5 year old daughter. It is a fun movie, but I recommend you watch without a critical mindset.
