Quite good, especially since I didn't have high hopes

Tom (Corin Nemec) is in a rut. His famous girlfriend has dumped him,and he is completely broke. His friends, including a drug addict namedQuebert (Jason Mewes), and Ben (David Faustino) plan to steal moneyanyway they can. This includes lying to Sean Connery's agent, Patrick(Andy Dick). This all rounds up to a funny con film. I thought of it asa film with laughs, and clever cons. I will admit, I thought this is agreat cast, which is why when I saw it in the video store, I had to seeit. I had no idea what the hell this was, my expectations very low, butI loved it. It was excellent, a charming little comedy. It was nice tosee a cast of people like Danny Trejo, Jason Mewes, Andy Dick, LaceyChabert, Edward Furlong, and Robert Rodriguez in a movie togetherwithout making it too over the top or raunchy. It's a calm, greatlittle movie. It never tries to be more than it's not, and it's veryclever. It's unpredictable, with a lot of surprises in store. I thoughtthe end twist was a surprising and funny one. It made me feel thatHollywood needs way more movies like this, and then maybe, just maybe,Hollywood will be great once again.

High Hopes-Low Results *1/2

This is one real farce of a film that just doesn't cut it. A guy hashis friend imitate Sean Connery so that he can land a role in his nextJames Bond film. The guy does great imitations including that at theend of the movie of Arnold Schwarzenegger.If that isn't enough, our guy and his band of wacky friends, includinga screenwriter, conspire to steal medicinal drugs. Then, our guy findsout that the government is offering a reward for the return of thedrugs so they conspire to steal and then return the goods for thereward. Of course, they have a rude awakening at the end.Those two sisters with guy names are stupid as ever to say the least.

Awesome Comedy!

This review is from: High Hopes (DVD) Funny movie featuring Corin Nemec and David Faustino as a comedy pair. Jay Mewes is a great supporting character. I couldn't wait to see what happened. Light up and enjoy.

Very Funny/Good Movie...Not Shouting But It's GooD

This movie is very funny and I think that people all over the worldshould see it. It has some good one liners like "in my heaven it'sendless tofu balls, tube socks and boobies" the guys replies "yourheaven sounds likes a sweat shop" another good one "I'm goingsnorkeling and won't be coming up for air, that's how good I am " It's worth your time. See it, yo.I like it, it's good.I have to write 10 lines but I don't have anything else to say.It's good, it's funny, see it.See it when it comes out.

TED RAIMI, JASON MEWES, DANNY TREJO, ROBERT RODRIGUEZ, DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE, EDWARD FURLONG, DAVID FAUSTINO-WHAT A FUN FLICK

HIGH HOPESThis is actually a very good independent flick full of some great talent and names that all should recognize. Most films with a topic such as this almost always fail on the independent level mainly because they try too many corny jokes and such. Thankfully this one actually has a story behind it and is very funny and entertaining. Of course with a cast like this how could it not be, and guess who made this flick. We will get to that later but this film was formerly known as "Nice Guys" from what I can tell. I don't know why they changed the name maybe because this name fits the story a little better or something.The story follows a group of friends who want nothing more in life than to get their script developed into a full blown movie. Their only hope of accomplishing this goal or at least they think is through one of their girl friends whose star is getting brighter as she is a leading lady now. But now that she is a leading lady she dumps her poor boyfriend and moves on forcing them to look else were for the funding to get it done. Enter a drug deal gone badly and a get rich quick plan that involves said drugs. From this point on any thing can happen and not necessarily in their favor. A Danny Trejo produced film who also appears in the film was extremely well done by director Joe Eckardt who brings us this great independent film. Written by Cecily Gambrell and Colby Kane this film is full of clever one liner and very funny moments. The cast is superb and do great jobs like the one and only Ted Raimi who is a cop in this and yes he is one of the stars. Jason Mewes as always is excellent even with out the great Kevin Smith. Andy Dick is just as good in this movie as is Edward Furlong of "American History X", and David Faustino who you may know from "Married with Children" is just as good. Robert Rodriguez, former wrestler Diamond Dallas Page, and basically every one in this film are excellent.To be honest I am very surprised that this film has not been more successful or advertised more because it is full of star power and is actually very good. I recommend this flick to any and all because it does not go the way you would think and isn't the type of comedy you may think when looking at the title. Is it about "High Hopes" as in drug related comedy, yes but not in a pothead kinda way. Well maybe a little bit but not as much as you would think. The film is much more clever than I thought it would be and really fun.

Absolute rubbish, don't even bother

This movie was so bad that I am embarrassed admitting that I watchedit. The plot was not consistent and the jokes were not funny. Okay,Jason Mewes (who play Jay in the Kevin Smith movies) plays a stoner,and does a reasonable job at it, but that simply does not go far enoughto resurrect this movie from the pits of horribleness.The plot, if one would call it that, involves a suitcase of governmentmarijuana that is stolen and then given to a dealer to hold. Thedealer's supplier is then killed in a gun fight, and the dealer is leftwith two million dollars worth of marijuana to get rid of, and he doeswhat most dealers do in that situation, and sells it. The maincharacters in this movie are a group of wanna-be actors and film makers(along with the standard Californian stoner) who are trying to raiseenough money to break into the scene. Well, they are also getting intothe Hollywood scene by lying and cheating. One of their girlfriends istesting her boyfriend by leaving her death and dumb cousin (who ends upnot being deaf and dumb) with them to see if he is a decent guy. As itturns out he is not.Personally, I find jokes where a bunch of dropouts are looking after adisabled person to be in very poor taste, and that is basically whatthis movie was, poor taste. The characters do not grow or learnanything, and in fact they get away with their deceit (to an extent,because the deaf and dumb guy pulls a fast one on them by taking themarijuana for himself).So, I've basically told you all about this movie now, so there shouldbe no surprises, therefore you can leave it on the shelf of the videostore (or skip over it when looking for a movie to stream over yourcomputer).

my opinion of nice guys

This movie was really good, if you like Jason Mewes or just comedymovies this is the movie for you. I had a great time hanging out withall the actors in the film, and I definitely give it a 10! I can't waituntil it comes out. I have to say that i loved the ending it was a verycool twist, and I think that speaking snooplish would be awesome. Myfavorite part was at the beginning when Jason Mewes and Jason Marsdenare playing with the soda glass, and the salt. I personally don't thinkthat Wendel should have took the money, but he did a great jobpretending to be retarded, even when Edward furlong was supposed to bebabysitting him, or when they were in the pool. Great job guys it was asuperb script!

Very Funny !!!

I watched this movie on a DVD at the doctor's office while waiting formy husband to have some tests. I am afraid that I disturbed the decorumof the place with my frequent outbursts of laughter. They didn't quiteask me to leave, but I did get a lot of disapproving looks. The comedicaction is enhanced by a wonderful plot with plenty of twists and turns;also, great characters which are brought to life by the quality actingthat is seen throughout. The writing and directing are superb. Iparticularly enjoyed small bits of action in the background. They arereal gems, so keep your eyes open for them. When the movie is releasedfor general viewing, be sure to see it. Just one caution, don't watchit in a place where you are not comfortable with laughing out loud.
