All about Schmidt

Who's that girl...? Why it's Zooey Deschanel and now the cutey piehipster has her very own show! Wow isn't it fun and zany to be thirtyand share an apartment? Just like being in a hospital (Scrubs) or acommunity college (Community) or share an apartment (friends... whoops)This show runs hot and cold but I think, like How I Met Your Mother, itwill really find it's feet by season 2. Some episodes are hilarious andsome are very cringey but the acting and chemistry is there and that'sthe main thing.The best thing about this show is Schmidt played by Max Greenfield. Themetrosexual ladies man who used to be fat and is now trying desperatelyto make up for it. Obsessed with beauty products, health food,pretentious night spots and getting laid. He keeps this show funny whenthe plot inevitably turns to Jess's (Zooey) love life... In summery this makes for a great show to watch while you eat yourdinner but it's not as good as Big Bang Theory or Community for twentyodd minutes of sit com fun times

So, so funny, but no thanks to religion

It seems that many shows recently including New Girl and Big BangTheory are promoting the subject of Jewish conversion, Jewish weddings.I for one abhor politics and religion mixed in with comedy....I wouldprefer they not display any overtly religious garb (hijab) or displaycrosses or stars of David, it's just a reminder to me and many othersof the religiously-based troubles in the middle east and elsewhere inthe world and banal TV comedy no longer provides a pleasant escape fromit, but shoves it in your face. What's worse when Schmidt was forced tomutilate his penis for circumcision that was the last straw for me, howdisgusting...no matter how hot Rashida is or her fascinatinghalf-Jewish heritage, to butcher one's penis in order to date someoneis revolting.... if you love someone, you accept them as is, Jew,Gentile or Muslim etc etc.I will no longer be watching this show or any other that promotes anykind of religion. Sorry producers, I watch comedy to laugh and escapeand embrace themes that unify people and not separate them into chosenor not chosen, blessed or saved etc.

Great

I give 'New Girl' a 10 out of 10. This show is awkward, quirky, odd, and the like, and that's what makesit so great. After my friend suggested I watch this show I tried outthe pilot episode, and I didn't think it would be something I liked.Jess was just too weird for me, but I grew to love her and the wholecast and show. Sure, the jokes are lame, but that's what makes me smile and have agood laugh. This is my new favorite show and I look forward to watchingevery new episode that comes out. I feel as though many people canactually relate to this show and the situations that occur in it, whichmakes it so much better. I truly hope this show makes it!

New Girl Not That Funny

i don't think new girl is funny. yes, Schmitt is funny, but Jess istrying so hard to be a dork and it just don't work.. yeah sometimes ismile, but most of the time new girl just awful, its annoying and idon't understand why they say new girl gets the highest rating of thedecade. i prefer to watch how i met your mother, or raising hope, orthe office (of course) because it gives a big laugh.. New girl arebetter to be a drama, not a comedy drama because it's full of drama andjust a little comedy in it. i don't like new girl and i don'tunderstand why people like it. is it because Zoey already famous for500 days of summer and all other stuff? OK i like deschanel in 500 daysof summer and others, but new girl is annoying and its aired so manytimes in my TV cable. please stop new girl for being so not funny. andfor jess character it just don't work out. sorry for the fans but youmust admit it's not funny.

short and to the point...

Brilliant! The best comedy on TV. Man Up was fantastic too. But sometwinkie decided to cancel Man Up. So... anywho, Zooey and all of thecast are brilliant. The writing is fresh. Its a diamond and I cannotTELL you how annoyed I will be if any of the "genius" execs cancel THISShow. Truly... how do this exec's get this jobs? Mommy or Daddy havesome pull? So lets not have New Girl pulled, huh guys? And by the way,if I were the "genius" exec's at the studio that decided to cancel ManUp, I would do whatever I could to put that show back of the air asap.I have nothing else to say, but apparently I have to write 10 lines orelse... no review! So how is everyone doing? oh, okay i really like theDeschanel girls. Seem pragmatic and down to earth from what I haveread. Best thing? No Drama!

This show deserves a better review and a lot of love!

The 1 star review that shows up when I looked this up on IMDb isridiculous! I watch quite a few shows (way too many) and this onegenuinely gets a smile on my face without cheap tricks, fake laughter,annoying punchline tunes trying to convince me what just happened wasfunny. The main characters in this show are already memorable in the pilot,they just have chemistry straight away. A lot of shows that I reallylove now didn't start off as well as 'New Girl' has for me.The 'formula' feels fresh to me, I haven't seen this show before inanother form and I absolutely love Zoey in this. Her personality inthis show is exactly why I fall in love in real life. Just watched thethird episode and I'll be sure to tune in next week!

that was horrible

Someone asked me once what I thought of Zooey Deschanel. I said that Ithought she was very pretty but I've never seen her in anything good. Last night we saw the pilot episode of New Girl.So now…I still haven't seen Zooey Deschanel in anything good.Oh, I know she had a part in Bridge to Terabithia, which was just OK,but she more than made up for that in the crushing disappointment thatwas Tin Man.But it's not necessarily their fault when an actor appears in somethingthat stinks, so high ho, let's pour a glass of wine and watch the pilotof New Girl.It was horrible. It wasn't even "let's get used to our parts, we'll bea little uncertain at first but it'll get better over time". It wasjust horrible. It's the kind of zany, over-the-top chewing-the-scenery"humor" that's one excruciating embarrassment after another. It's likea 6th grade class was handed a big budget and a bunch of actors andtold to create a sitcom. I tried watching it with the sound off becauseZooey really is pretty, but it didn't help. I don't expect the show tolast a season.

Very disappointing

the show started off hilarious and promising at first. now I'm watchingepisode 2 and wondering who the hell is this new guy. right away theshow went down hill for me, I'm sorry that first episode had me withZoe's funny klutzy character. Also Damon Wayans Jr. character is onlythere for 2 episodes, ridiculous. The show worked great with the 3 maleroommates plus female act, About 3 guys living with a new girl withbaggage and Damon's character bounced great with the other too malecast which made it funny and interesting. I don't think the show willlast too long but hey you might never know. I don't think it's sunny inPhilly. is that funny either but people love the show.

Borders on annoying, but I'm still giving this girl a chance.

I tend to take a while when I write IMDb user reviews, because I takeplanning them seriously. Nevertheless I was glad to write another oneon an adult series, and this is one that I'm pleased to write about,although only partially because of the charm of Zooey Deschanel.Jessica "Jess" Day is a spunky, quirky, geeky young teacher who justcaught her boyfriend with another girl while she tried to surprise himby stripping naked in front of him. So, she breaks up with him andmoves to another apartment that she found on Craigslist. The thing is,she really hasn't changed too much since she was in Junior High School,and all three guys at her apartment are annoyed with her antics. Thoseguys are Bartender and equally jilted guy Nick Miller(Jake Johnson),corporate lawyer who thinks he's god's gift to women, Schmidt(MaxGreenfield), a former Coach of some kind(Damon Wayans, Jr.), andex-Latvian basketball team member, Winston(Lamorne Morris). Plenty hasbeen written about the sudden replacement of Damon Wayans Jr. withLamorne Morris, so there's not much that can be said... other than thefact that at least they didn't try to pull a Darren Stephens on us.There are already comparisons being made to another perky brunette whohad a sitcom around 1966(Hmm, let's see... diamonds, daisies,snowflakes,... Eh, it'll come to me.). The show and the main characterare plugged as being "adorkable," but I have to admit, I originallyfound her to be more "dork" than "adorable." In the first threeepisodes, her supposedly quirky personality was hard to tolerate atfirst. She sings out of nowhere, making up her own songs on the spot,watches sappy movies and sobs uncontrollably at them. Luckliy she hasat least one friend, Cece Meyers, a model played by the breathtakinglygorgeous Hannah Simone. This is yet another case where the secondbanana outshines the star. Luckily, not that much thanks to the bubblypersonality of Jess and the actress who plays her.

Bland, banal, the Justin Bieber of TV shows. Just soboring, nauseatingly boring, it's like she had a personality bypass.The story lines are an attack to intelligence and enjoyment. Cuteness Personified

The show is just three episodes old. I couldn't resist myself to writethis review. New Girl is fantastic. Cuteness Personified. Zooey justovercast others by her natural charisma. This show is best show in thisfall. The good thing about the show is that it has huge potential andCreators are wisely using it. They have successfully developedcharacters, especially Zooey's character, Is that girl really outthere? I would like to fall in love with her. Zooey gives complimentsto writer's imagination by her acting. Format is very simple and now a days it rarely comes on TV. I thinkthis show going to stand apart from rest of other comedies.

Funny and worth watching, but most of the comedy has been done before.

I started the show because I LOVE Zooey, and i liked it enough to keepgoing. I noticed mainly at the start that quite a lot of the jokes andsubplots have been done before but really the actors and differentcharacters make it worth it. They are all really likable and havereally good chemistry. I was disappointed when i found that 'The Coach'would only appear in the first episode but it wasn't long until i wasused to Winston. Just one more positive, I love the theme song. It's acatchy song and i have never seen an opening quite like it. Funny show,i hope it keeps going and furthers it's boundaries. It had a strongstart and definitely has a lot more potential.

Good but a bit confusing

I'm not sure if my rating is too optimistic because it could have beenlower but I'm hoping that this show works out so I'll leave it at 7.The show is pretty good in the sense that I was entertained but Ididn't laugh as much as I do when watching TBBT or HIMYM. And to behonest I can't seem to figure out if this TV-show is actually only forwomen which is pretty confusing since I'm a guy. That doesn't mean it'sbad. There are of course funny shows for women (I honestly love SATC). I'm not a big Zooey Deschanel fan which is perhaps why I think "Jess"can be a bit annoying and I would honestly rather learn more about Nickbecause I think his character seems to have more depth. But I would saythat the only thing I find really annoying and terrible about this showis the intro! I hate it! I know it's stupid but it's awful. I usuallydon't have an opinion on the intro but this is just plain bad!All that being said I think it's a good show and I would like to see itsucceed :)

This show has promise.

Cute show but if Jess doesn't end up with a hot hipster with a haircutlike James McAvoy in Penelope, I'm going to quit watching. I don't knowhow much longer I can buy that this beautiful, intelligent girl isputting up with this house full of douchebags. Zooey Deschanel rocksand has so much to offer as an actress. It's unfortunate that she'sdegrading herself to play along with the TV stereotype that "dorky"people aren't desirable. I still have hope that she's not going to endup with one of her loser roommates. I would really like to see her asthe romantic lead in a film with a co-star that's up to her caliber.Her talent and appeal are being wasted here.

Finally a funny comedy !

Just watched episodes 1-6 and have to say Im really enjoying this showand its the first show in ages that I've actually laughed out loud.Was confused why the character 'Coach' disappeared after show 1 beforegoogle advised me that his previous show was given a new series.Possibly a good thing as his character seemed to be the weakest one inthe pilot, just seemed to shout and not a lot else.The show may be about Jess but to be honest whilst Zooey is good as herthe character so far is little more than a kooky girl with nosubstance. Im sure her character will be fleshed out as the show goeson but for now she is upstaged by the other characters and the way theyinteract.Looking forward to seeing the show develop, Im sure it will get asecond series.My only hope is that they don't take the obvious path to putting Jesswith Nick as that would make the shows main idea (1 girl and 3 guys)pointless.

Kind of Funny

It is offbeat funny and that is really popular right now. It is chockfull of the pop culture references everyone loves nowadays. Beforewatching it I was afraid that the show would focus all on ZooeyDeschanel's cuteness. It does, but not as much as I thought. Though thehumor does kind of hit a little, it isn't laugh out loud funny. Plus itis only a matter of time that Zooey's character starts a longflirtatious Sam-and-Diane romantic tension with one of the characters.The plot has the old familiar sitcom clichés. She is a cute girl whofinds three men, men who seem very masculine, and turn them into herprotectors. The worst part was that the entire time I spent watchingit, I couldn't help comparing it to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.New Girl is like a watered down version of that show, Couch playing theaggressive Mac, Schmidt as the sociopath ladies man, Jess as the onlyfemale Sweet Dee of course, and Nick as the strange and lonely Charlie,replete with the ex girlfriend he can't get over played by...hey wait aminute...His ex is played by the exact same girl as Charlie's Waitresscharacter! I appreciate the effort, but it will never be as funny asthe full force of It's Always Sunny and I don't think I will be able tohelp myself in comparing the two because of the similarities.

Maybe it's because I'm British...

You would think this would be perfect for me - I'm a 21 year old girlwho LOVES random crap - but this show just... sucks. Zoey is provingyet again that she can't act, she plays the same 'ditzy, cute randomgirl' in every movie. She does things in this that infuriate me. A lotof people out there are going to watch this and think OMGZZ SHE'S SOOOOFUNNY AND RANDOM!!! I even grimaced at some of the things she does. Shetries to make her character funny by singing at random times andquoting 'nerdy' movie lines. It doesn't come off as funny though, itcomes off as WOW you're trying too hard to be random.The only character I like in the whole series so far is Winston. Heactually made me laugh out loud and definitely made me smile. I guesshe's the one who's keeping me watching this crap attempt at comedy.Don't like it if you dislike Zoey - you'll hate her even more.

Don't waste your time watching this show

I love Zooey Deschanel looks and personality. So I have watched allthree episodes of this show, trying to give Zooey a chance.Zooey plays Jess, and the character is less than shallow, is empty-headed and nothing interesting. What is the fun thing about startsinging at everything? This is a common joke about what is NOT funny.Not the other way round.The only scene fun, up to now, was on the first episode when she dancesnaked. Fun but not enough to make me remember all about.And Schmidt character? Nobody is that flat stupid. Big stupidity comesin layers.A comedy with no fun, a story full of clichés, and characters with nodepths. This show doesn't worth even the time I spent writing thisreview.I wasted my time. You don't need to waste yours.

Zoe mugging for money

I will not post insults without a developed criticism. Here are myproblems. She is like a piece of candy but I need more substance thaneating all of her sugary fake "acting". Her character is who she is inlife and that is not tolerable for this amount of time on the tube forme. Zoe may be a funny side character or bit player but she makes mytummy ill with all of the fake sugary stupid mugging. Way too fake andfull of "image" blink blink blink with the over the top eyes and thestupid look of being so out of it? The bangs the eyes the silly outfitsand the "i'm so out of it" look. Just STOP IT and try 'acting" insteadof making yourself a "brand". I do not care if she makes tons of moneyor is super famous. She is not an actor that takes her craft seriouslybut is looking for a hook...has found that hook and won't get off of itand give it a rest. Seriously ZD.....give it a go and try somethingdifferent to prove to us that you have a thought besides the singlebeat that u won't put down.

Old Idea

This is a show about a new girl named jess(zooey deschanel) who hasfound her bf sleeping with someone else and moved in with 3 guys. Nowthe thing you must understand about this girl is that they made her outto be a very nice girl but someone who has no idea how to read personalques so basically everything you would think a normal person would doin a situation she does the extreme opposite of.Now having gotten that out of the way time for the review. I watched 5episodes of this show, and not because it was good mind you, but purelybecause I love zooey deschanel as an actress so I figured maybesomewhere in the bounds of this show they might let her act likeherself, sadly that didn't happen. The cast is actually top notch theseguys are really good actors but they simply can't compensate enough forhow terrible they made "jess". The level of atrocity and stupidity thatspews from her lips written by someone who clearly doesn't understandcreative writing as a concept let alone an actual script, is just toomuch to put up with. After this many episodes I can honestly tell you Iwill not be watching this show its just too depressing to take a greatactress and make her act like a complete moron. 5/10 because if itweren't for terrible writing this show would actually be very good.
