If you want UNCUT ORIGINAL version, ALWAYS look for ORIGINAL LICENSED Production. NOT US Release. Its a foreign film, it should not be US version to begin with~! HELLO!!!?? Why settle for LESS with US Version where they edit and cut so many excellent scenes especially with Jackie's Fighting Scenes. And US Release ruins the speed and sound as well. I have been collecting Jackie Chan's movies both HK and US Release Version for quite some time now. I found HK Version to be MUCH MORE in enjoyable, and HIGHER in Quality. American Market always like to "Americanize" and "Control". Regional Code Regulation thing is one of the example to CONTROL the Market. Why not let everyone enjoy the same HK Original Release move the same way ENTIRE WORLD enjoys it ?? No one makes Hollywood American movies to "French version" or "Chinese Version" ~! This what Americans are doing~! Well, enjoy the cheap "American version" then~! LOL
The fight scenes in this are incredible. Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, Andy Lau, Sammo Hung, and Richard Norton all have some of the best fight scenes. The routine with Sammo and his freind trying to get into bed with a girl is pretty cheesy, but hey! You watch Jackie Chan movies for action not for Oscar caliber performances! Come on! I rank this one up there with his other fine martial arts movies.
In 1985 Sammo had become so huge he could get anybody he wanted to star in his movies, and I doubt that budget ever came up in coversations. If you are familiar with the Lucky Stars series, then you know what to expect. Nonstop comedy and spectacular fight scenes. Sammo and his friends are once again asked by the policewoman played by Sibelle Hu to aid her in solving a case. They have to protect John Sham and Rosamund Kwan from 3 assassins played by Chung Fa, Yasuaki Kurata and Richard Norton. But who cares about the story in a movie like this? Sammo certainly didn't. This movie is all about the long drawn out comedic sequences and the hard hitting, stunt filled fight scenes. And there are so many people fighting, it doesn't even matter that Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao and Andy Lau have such small roles. The comedy is very good, as expected from comedic geniuses like Richard Ng and Eric Tsang, but they really go all out with the fights. My only problem with the previous Lucky Stars movies, and the ones made after this, was that there aren't enough fights. The movies always end with a bang, but you have to wait around the whole movie for the action to happen. In Twinkle Twinkle, there is no waiting around for anything. They fill up every second of the movie with funny gags and fights. It is actually a bit overwhelming. Like I already said, the fights are truly amazing. You may think I am making this up, but here are all the fight scenes you will see- Yuen Biao vs Phillip Ko, Andy Lau vs Lau Kar Wing, Sammo vs a bunch of men in drag, Jackie Chan vs Richard Norton, and Jackie vs Yasuaki Kurata. All of those fights are good, but there are 4 others that stand out above the rest. When Sammo faces Richard Norton, he does probably the best acrobatic move I have ever seen him do. In case people don't know, Sammo is a fat guy, but he can pull off moves that most skinny people can only dream of. Sammo also fights Yasuaki Kurata and uses tennis rackets against his sais. You have to see it to believe it. Only Sammo could pull this kind of thing off. Then when Yuen Biao faces Chung Fa, it turns into a dream matchup that I never thought could have ended up as good as it did. And as good as all of those fights are, the highlight for me is a short match between Dick Wei and Jackie Chan. These guys really should have done more fights together. Jackie was in his physical prime in 1985 and Dick Wei never holds back. One of the best fights I have ever seen. The action directors for this movie include Sammo, Jackie, Blacky Ko, Chin Kar Lok, Yuen Wah and Lam Ching Ying, so I expected some REALLY good action. Like usual, Sammo delivers.Whether you are familiar with the Lucky Stars series or not, I highly recommend this movie. And be sure to look for cameos by Wu Ma, Kara Hui, Jason Pai Paio, James Tien, Melvin Wong, and Michelle Yeoh has a hilarious scene playing a judo instructor. 4/5
Without martial arts sequences it would be 5 out of 10 at most on IMDb,no doubt. But it has them as a tasty dish in different parts of thefilm. The Chinese humour here may be called moronic but being that bad itdoes not spoil the movie. Suggest that one should watch this movie inChinese with subtitles. Maybe being drunk will also help. The way thatlittle fat "bugger" (as another character calls him) speaks is awesome. As if singing some idiotic childish song - quite a moving intonation.Lexically his speech is idiotic as well. The way Sammo looks in thismovie also adds some crazy flavour: he is so baby-faced here and sohurtful at times (with his kicks, jumps, and all). Richard Norton isridiculous as well with his "Excuse me" and trademark "Painful?"phrases together with childish face expressions, though he has a beard. In a few words this movie is an orient extravaganza that is quite moreenjoyable than anything modern shown on TV nowadays. What I did not like is: voodoo doll topic (it gets too far), outtakeson the DVD (not funny, not cool - plain uninteresting and dull, thankfully these scenes are not in the movie), and little fighting(yes, really tough but little - would be happy with an additional 15minutes brawl between everybody engaged in the production). The moviecould be also shorter for the sake of insane pace - 70 minutes of thisstupidity would be nice.Almost forgot: 1) that Biao's jump at the factory is still in my mind'seye (he made the backward splits and kneed the opponent in the backgrabbing him by the hair and thrusting forward through the glass - pureecstasy); 2) the scene where one of those stupid old fellows isharassing his two friends with the fingers and finally slaps them withthat helicopter move hitting the first friend up the chin and the other- upon the head (re-watched this dumb scene a number of times - stillcannot believe my eyes while it looks so childish and phoney); 3) themusic becomes to the movie perfectly - it resembles the one used in ourold Soviet cinema for kids; 4) the moronic ending with the endlesscrowd of people coming out of the elevator makes me smile real wide.8 out of 10, forget the manners and you'll love it (I think that afterrepeated viewing I will give it the highest mark). Thanks forattention.
'Xia ri fu xing' is a very good ending to Lucky Stars trilogy (Winner &Sinners, My lucky stars, twinkle twinkle lucky stars). Jackie is not themain character. He only appears in fight scenes. But it doesnt matter.Samoand his friends are really entertaining if you like crazy hk humor. Thereare only three or four fight scenes in this movie but they aremagnificent! It is a pleasure to watch Jackie and Yuen Biao beating up bad guy's.YoungAndy Lau is Jackies assistant. Fight's are well cordinated and fast!Awesome!Samo and his buddies are funny! Samo beats women assassins, Richard Ngtriesvoodoo on some girls and one of the female character's plays blind to notget shot as a murder witness! Really Funny! I recommend.
The script is totally incoherent(something about a letter that could expose a criminalorganization...don't even bother to think about it), andmost of the comedy is lame, butthe action is fast and exhilarating.Jackie has a small part and barely any dialogue in this one;Ialso would have liked to see more of the gifted Yuen Biao, whohas a way of making even the most amazing stuntsseem effortless. Sammo Hung gets the lion's share of the fighting, andat the end he is pitted against Richard Norton, one of the most worthyvillains of Jackie Chan movies. I give "Twinkle" * for the comedy and ***for the action, so the average is **.
Full of awful humour and irritating characters, 'The Target' (what I sawitas) isn't a highpoint in the career of Jackie Chan, Samo Hung, and YuenBiao.I have to wonder at how the 'lucky star' series that this is a part ofmanaged to become so popular, going by 'The Target' and the other one I'veseen ('my lucky stars')Besides the couple of final battles, there are only two good scenes, onefeaturing Michelle Yeogh teaching Judo, and the other involving the maingirl pretending she's blind to avoid being killed as awitness.jackie's only in a few scenes and is generally wasted. If you want to see Jackie, Samo, and Yuen Biao is a good movie, watchDragons Forever, or Project A if you haven't already.
After seeing them all, I can safely recommend that you avoid any Chan film with the word "Stars" anywhere in the title. One has a good fight scene in a Coke (Pepsi?) factory, but other than that they are pointless and irritating. Long, grueling scenes of them all wanting to get into bed with a girl get old VERY fast.
"Xia ri fu xing" was the first movie by Sammo Hung, and I lovedit. The stunts and the action is great and the story isn't stupid. The decreesare fun. Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan and the rest of the actors played super. You don't see very much blood, but they hit and kick and hit andkick...This movie shows, that you can film super stunts, without special-effects,like in "The Matrix".
Some people just don't understand this movie. It isn't about plot it'sabout jokes and martial arts. It's just fun to watch. The jokes arepretty simple but they still are funny, especially when you get to knowthe characters of this movie better. The fighting scenes wereunbelievable. It's much better than in Hollywood movies. The warehousefighting scene is one of the best fighting scenes I've ever seen. Manypeople think that the best films of Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and YuenBiao is Wheels on Meals or Dragons Forever, but I like Lucky Starsseries more. Althou some people may be disappointed because Jackie Chanand Yuen Biao appeared only in few scenes but that's OK to me becauseother actors did a great job to and there was no boring moments in thisfilm. I gave it 10/10 and it's worth it because it's really fun towatch.
