After viewing "My Boyfriend'sBack" several years ago and having not watched it since, I can still saywith all certainty that this movie deserves to rot like its maincharacter.I mean, if I could, I'd rip the right arm off of this film, and beat ittoundeath with it!Here is the story (no spoilers, I promise):Johnny Dingle is a loser. Johnny pines for Missy, the hottest chick inschool. Johnny doesn't have a prayer. Johnny comes up with a plan towinMissy's heart. Oops, Johnny's plan back fires. Now Johnny's dead. Butlove won't let Johnny just stay dead (like he should). No, Johnny has toask a very special question first. Blah, Blah, Blah...This movie is a turd and a half, and deserves to be burned. Every copyofit. The only redeeming moments in the film are those featuring Missy(because she is hot), and Philip Seymour Hoffman because he is fantasticineverything he does. However, they are not enough to warrant this film'sexistence.If you want a funny zombie movie, skip this flick and opt for somethingtruly funny ... like "The Return of the Living Dead".I cannot in good conscience recommend this.

I was actually in this movie.

The movie was filmed here in Austin, Texas. I was an extra back in 1993whenit came out. I agree that it was pretty lame, but I was in a lot ofscenes,so I had to watch it over and over. And even THEN I wasbored.It was set at an elementary that was supposed to be a high school here inasmall suburb called Round Rock. It was very cheap, Andrew Lowery was nice,but he had just finished the movie "School Ties" with Brendon Frasier, sohewas becoming a little more famous. A very young Matthew Fox from "Party ofFive" was in it too. I actually remember him sitting and chatting with meduring one of the breaks. Good guy. "Party of Five" hit about a year ortwolater...

Before there was Shaun Of The Dead . . .

It's about a boy who dies trying to save the girl he has a crush on, then comes back from the dead to take her to the prom. In this one he's a zombie, not a ghost, so it's sort of a forerunner to Shaun of the Dead, though the protagonist is the only zombie. There's plenty of hilarious stuff, but it's pretty gross. Austin Pendleton is a scream as the doctor trying to help the zombie.

funny movie great story!!!!!

my boyfriends back what movie with a great title... WOW i mean first of all johnny dingle has been trying to get with the girl he was in love with since first grade than while trying to foil a phony holdup at the store where his girlfriend works he gets shot and dies but only to come back from the dead for his girlfriend missy mcloud and in which the wnid up going to the high school prom before he dies a second time.....

Good Movie

I loved this movie. For anyone out there it is a good girl's movie. It is about a guy that gets killed without confessing his true feeling for his childhood crush. He comes back as the living dead to take her to the prom. The thing is that he has the whole town chasing him, for some reason, and she is the only one who stands by his side. (Really funny) In the end he ends up in the same situation that got him killed (like a second chance not to be killed )but it is through her love that he suvives and gets the girl. I recomend it highly.

My boyfriend's back

I have seen this movie quiet a few times. I must say that I didn't enjoy it to much. I usually onlywatched it when there was nothing on and I fell asleepwith it on. I never really got the idea, I new they were friends, but when he came back, he wasn't her boyfriend.I liked the original my boyfriends back, it was in 1989.It starred judith light, sandy duncan, and jill eikenberry.I don't know if it was ever released on video, that movie wouldget 5stars from me, this version I would say only 2stars to benice.

Love this movie

I saw this movie a couple years ago and thought it was really funny. I've tried to tell a couple people that I work with about it but they don't seem to remember it or have no clue what I am talking about. On another note, to Movie Lover, the name of the song is "Hanging on for Dear Life" by MMC. I can promise that this is correct, because I just bought the CD and the song is on it.

Worst movie that I have ever seen.

I have seen over 1000 movies and this one stands out as one of the worstmovies that I have ever seen. It is a shame that they had to associatethisgarbage to The Angels 1963 song "My Boyfriend's Back." If you have tomakea choice between watching this movie and painful dental work, I wouldsuggest the dental work.

I like this movie!

This movie is a good movie!I love the music in this movie!But I don't think this movie is good for children to watch!But on a real note no one comes back to life!No matter how much you love them!But in this movie the guy comes back to be with the women he loves!Maybe in the long run love does conquer all!Enjoy the movie!

Underrated Black Comedy

You want to see a zombie movie, but your girlfriend wants to watch aromantic comedy. What do you do??? Compromise!!! This movie bombed at the boxoffice, if I recall, and didn't do too well on video either. As such, itshard to find out there (I had to visit 15 video stores personally), literally making thisa hidden gem! While the narrative is a little off, the one liners alone make thisRomantic Black Comedy about a zombie truly entertaining! And while most of theactors in it have fallen off the face of the earth (except Edward Herrmann and avery young Phillip Seymour Hoffman), they help make this film what it is. Definitely worth hunting out if you want something a little different than your averagerun of the mill comedy.

File under: "Will never get the credit it deserves"

Honestly, I can't stress enough that this movie, while not particularly good on the surface, is much smarter than it appears. The entire cast acts under the hazy impression that rising zombies aren't that out of the ordinary. Seeing a high-schooler chastise his undead friend for eating another student with the line "Colleges look at this sort of thing!" is indicative of the type of humor at work here. Take it for what it's worth. No, this isn't Oscar material, but 20 years from now, this will be a cult classic. I laughed all the way through at the concept of a zombie's (living) parents gleefully assisting in his cannabalism. But hey, that's just me.

A Bomb of a Great Movie!!!!

I am a person that doesn't look at how good a Movie does at the BoxOffice before I see a Movie. And, I must say that if your looking for aMovie to watch on a Rainy day, this would be it. The Movie tells thestory of a Teenager who will do anything to get the Girl of his dreams,even if it IS coming back from the Dead. You would imagine that thiswould be an Adventure, well; it is. I originally saw this Movie when Iwas 13 at my Great Uncle's house. Since then it has been one of myFavorite Movies. I gave this Movie 9 out of 10 because it is a Moviethat is both funny and entertaining; even though it was a Box OfficeBomb.

Ourzombie's parents accept him with barely any question, because he's theirson, and our zombie's girlfriend accepts himbecause the depth of his love is what has enabled him to return from deathand make it to the prom, even if that means his devouring a couple ofclassmates. Time enough for love

Johnny Dingo (Andrew Lowery) loved little Missy (Traci Lind) with a love that would not die. His only wish was to take her to the prom. His scheme to get here to go with him goes awry. Johnny finds himself six foot under ground. That night he RETURNS. We find love, loyalty, and ground Chuck on the menu. This movie is right up there with the best zombie movies such as "Weekend at Bernie's II." Notice how his parents are very supportive though out the story. And there is an appropriate lesson near the end.

well first of all WAZZUP !!........i love this movie with a passion i`ve seen it at least 40 times. but last night i rented it for the 41st time......and noticed something i never noticed before......THE NAME OF THE SONG THEY DANCED TO AT THE END OF THE MOVIE........i had my closed-captioning running, and all of a sudden it pops up "hanging on for dear life" BY: MMC *now i was thinking that MMC stood for mickey mouse club, but i don`t think in this case it does. also......comment to other amazon reviwers......i know too much more than ANYBODY about movies and music......but if you want to know the name of a song or something you`ve got to leave your e-mail address in your review so people can write you back. well.....peace love and chicken grease !!!!! Everything falls apart in this mindless teen film.

Turn your backs away or you're gonna get in big trouble out of MYBOYFRIEND'S BACK! Only a happy ending can bloom your innocence that is fullof gloom and doom at the very moment you're watching this. It's safe to saythat the entire movie falls apart, with a sarcastic approach and tribute tozombie shows that defy nonsense to the max. We get a name like "Johnny"every so often, and this "Johnny" has nowhere to go. There isn't a specificreason to why our "dead corpse" crawls out of his grave just to surviveuntil prom night, so that renders the movie totally useless. Without afeeling of sorrow, his mother is convinced to tell the doctor that he'sdead. Johnny takes a bite out of Eddie's arm afterwards. The viewer is askeda tough question: Why does the movie have to be this cornball? There is ananswer. Any resemblance to all persons living or dead is purelycoincidental. "Living" is a coincidence. "Dead" has nothing in common withthe movie. Show this one to your girlfriend and she'll skip the senior prom,turning your life into a deserted ruin. Blah!!!

Good B-movie filmed at my old school

When I first heard about this movie, I thought it was cool as hell becauseit was filmed at my middle school (or junior high). The inside was myschool, C.D. Fulkes Middle School in Round Rock, Texas, but the outside wassome university in Austin, not UT. It's really a good movie with lots ofcool tongue-in-cheek moments. Great for a classic slap-stick horror.Hopefully this will end up as a cult classic in Round Rock.Trivia - took the janitors a week to clean up the bloody mess from the axscene in the meantime all of us students were freaking out aboutit.

man i really love this movie. this film is so much fun. it's hokey and cheesy. It's also FUNNY AS HELL! Don't listen to the numb-skulls that say it sucks. those people need to go see a proctologist b/c there is something stuck up their.......anyway, this movie is a lot of fun to watch. i've seen it too many times to count & i never get sick of it. i liken it to the princess bride in that way (before anyone jumps down my throat for that comment i am NOT comparing these 2 movies. they are totally different. i just want to say that i enjoy the humor in each so much that i always feel like watching both movies over & over again.) every character is funny in his/her own way & all are played well by the actors. many of whom i recognize but i don't know their names. i know the dad is the guy that played the head vampire in lost boys. otherwise i'm not sure who they are but they are funny! The doctor is absolutely hilarious, i think he might be my favorite character.
