The best Disney movie since Beauty and the Beast

The last couple of Disney movies have been horrible. But Mulan is different because for the first time in quite a while it was acutal funny.The little side kicks who normally I dispise acutally had really funny lines. I loved the romance between Mulan and Shang.A definate buy for any one with the heart of a kid

I think that this was a good movie

This was a good movie that shows that you can achieve whatever you want as long as you dont back down. This also shows that with a little help from your friends you can become great.

Disney has done it again!

For those who haven't seen Mulan, are the ones that are missing out on a great movie! I own the VHS and DVD version, but I must say that I liked the DVD version better. The picture quality deserves 5 stars and the sound quality deserves 4.5 stars. I am a Disney fan and you wouldn't believe how many of the best movies turn out to be Disney animated movies.

Vastly disappointing

This could have been so good ... and it's nothing at all. I gave up on it after thirty minutes, tired of the stereotyping (Mulan at the camp and the whole Be a Man song), the horrible attempts at comedy (Eddie Murphy should not have been in this movie), and the lackluster score. Reflection was an all-right song, but not memorable nor something I want to hear again. The animation is stunning, but eye-candy can't replace characterization and plot.

Marvelous! This Is Fabulous!!

I first saw this movie when I was in first grade, we were studyingabout China, and so we decided to watch this movie, it took a few daysto watch the whole thing, but when it was over, I thought that it wastotally phenomenal, this is a animation marvel, this is one of thegreatest animated movies I have ever seen. I especially love thetraditional animation, this is what animation was once like, this iswhat it was back during the good old days to traditional animation,this is what animation should be mostly like, this is what animationshould mostly return to! Eddie Murphy was really great at voicing Mushu the dragon, dragon, notlizard, he doesn't to that tongue thing! Until recently, I had no ideathat was Eddie Murphy, I first found that out when I was looking upseveral of his movies that really flopped at the box office, such asShowtime, I Spy, and who could forget, the really terrible box officeflop, The Adventures of Pluto Nash?! But I really liked Mushu, Ithought that he was very hysterical! This movie is totally a marvel, I took me quite some deciding, but thenI came to the conclusion that this was one of the greatest animatedmovies that I have ever seen, it is marvelous, I totally recommend thatyou see this, you will wish that you had seen it a long time ago,because it is so fabulous! 10/10

A Mature Disney Heroine Leading A Film

Disney's 'Mulan', set in ancient China' is another visual treat fromDisney. The animation is stunning and colourful and it does capture thebeauty of old China (as seen in paintings). The story has heart and isa lot of fun to watch. I liked that Mulan was written as the typicalfairy tale Disney heroine. She's strong, independent, brave, thoughtfuland determined. She has more in common with the male Disney characterslike Aladdin.All the 'good guy' characters are likable but my favourite one is EddieMurphy's Mushu. There's quite a resemblance to Murphy's other famouscharacter Donkey (from 'Shrek') and this just proves that he has anenergetic voice and flair for comedy which is just what the charactersrequire. The rest of the voice actors that include Ming Na, Pat Morita,Miriam Margolyes, James Hong, Miguel Ferrer and George Takei amongothers do a splendid job.The jokes work very well as they had me and my family laughing outloud. The songs that were sung by the characters were hilarious and theinstrumental tracks were great. Even though 'Mulan' has been criticizedby many for its violent content and historical inaccuracy, I think it'sone of Disney's great productions. I didn't feel the violence wasoverdone and where historical accuracy is concerned, it's a Disneymovie for goodness sake. That said, I didn't think the film itself wasgrossly inaccurate even though a few liberties have been taken here andthere. Just watch it and enjoy with the family. That's what it's for.

The girl who saved China

Disney is probably the best known name in animation but because theirfilms are almost never on television I don't think I'd seen one since Isaw Pinocchio in the cinema in 1972 when I was five! For that reasonwhen I saw 'Mulan' was going to be on television I just had to watchit.This film tells the tale of the eponymous Mulan; a Chinese girl livingwith her invalid father. When China is invaded by the Huns every familymust send one male to fight for the emperor; as Mulan has no brothersthis means her father must go for the sake of the family's honour.Knowing that he will almost certainly be killed Mulan cuts her hairshort before taking her father's armour and sneaking out of the houseat night to enlist. This is a foolhardy move as it would mean instantdeath and dishonour should her true gender be exposed. In order to saveher the family ancestors are summoned and Mushu, a small dragon goesoff to help her… he too wasn't meant to go but he is determined toregain his position. When Mulan gets into the army things don't go toowell at first and more than once it looks as if she will be caught;eventually however she and her comrades go into battle against thedreaded Hun and due to Mulan's bravery and quick thinking they prevail.Unfortunately for her though they learn she is a girl; because of herbravery she isn't killed but she is left behind in shame. When she seesthat the Hun aren't all dead she must tell her friends and save theemperor… this time she won't be hiding her gender… they will! I was surprised how much I enjoyed this; the story was great and Ireally liked the protagonist, Ming-Na did a good job providing hervoice. The most recognisable voice was provided my Eddie Murphy, whoplayed the comedy sidekick Mushu; he did a good job and provided plentyof laughs from a character I initially thought might turn out to beirritating. While there are plenty of laughs there is also a goodamount of drama and action; the scenes where Mulan sets off to join thearmy and where her unit finds the site where the rest of the army hadbeen defeated were particularly poignant. The action scenes were quitedramatic; especially the 'avalanche scene'. Being a Disney film therewere some songs and while they didn't have me humming along they didadd some enjoyable moments. Being a U certificate there is nothing inthis film that makes it unsuitable for young children and it is nice tosee a children's film where the female protagonist doesn't need a manto rescue her from danger; here it is she who does the rescuing! Givenhow much I enjoyed this; I just hope it isn't another forty years tillI catch another Disney animation!

Allright

This movie was ok. Mulan was a good character, full of animation and beauty. She was a good person and was learning a lot by her experiences but she didn't understand some things which her father tried to teach her. A good movie, some of the scenes would have been better without Mushu talking about spit shines and stuff like that. But very interesting. If Mushu weren't in the movie I probably would have cried.

Educational and Entertaining

This movie is great for the entire family. It's funny, has great music, and a great way for children to learn a little about history. This has to be the best Disney movie of the past several years. Both of my kids, ages 8 and 4 adore it.

Ive seen better cartoons from the WB network.

i didnt like this movie because the dragon took away from plot. Mulan has too much western style in it.plus Mulan is not pretty enough!

An awesome Disney movie for so many reasons ...

Finally, Disney has a great feminist character! Disney has created abeautifully artistic and cultural movie, with an excellent story, inthe form of Mulan. The story: Mulan is a young Chinese girl preparing for a life as ahousewife, but she knows she's far too strong-minded to be something asmenial as that. When the Huns invade China, her father (the only malein the household), is selected to fight in the army, despite the facthe has old wounds that prevent him from fighting properly. Determinedto save her father, Mulan disguises herself as a man and takes hisplace in the army. This movie has been a personal favorite of mine ever since I saw itwhen I was a little girl. Since I watched it, Mulan has constantly beena role model of mine: she is a girl who's brave, who will do anythingfor her family, a girl who dares to be different, and a girl who daresto follow her dreams, and her heart. But the character of Mulan isn't the only awesome thing about thismovie. The other characters are excellent and not at allone-dimensional. Eddie Murphy - who voices the tiny, jive-talkingdragon Mushu - is hilarious most of the time. Shan-Yu has to be one ofthe best villains Disney has created in a long time. Shang isinteresting, but is possibly the weakest, least-developed character ofall. The music is wonderful, the battle scenes are epic, the song itemsdon't interfere with the story at all, and the detail is beautiful. Myonly complaint is that it could have been a bit longer. I would haveliked some more development within the story and with the separatecharacters. Nonetheless, an awesome Disney movie!8/10

VEARY VEARY FUNNY MOVIE AND EDUCATIONAL

I would recomend this movie for all ages!!!!!! MUSHU the dragon makes the movie 1000 times bettere even though i am 11 I recomend this movie to every body out there. it has a great story behind i think your kids will get alot of good education from it. Nice plot, great songs, interesting outcome

I will first say that I am bias in that I've heard the "be a man" songbefore and really like it. So when I heard it play in the movie, Iliked the scenes they were played in even more.The movie is basically about someone who wants to break tradition andshow that they can do things that everyone else can too. By tradition,I mean a girl who decides to go off and become a soldier to help fightbecause she feels her father wouldn't be able to.Along the way you get a comedic dragon thing who at first doesn't thinkhe's powerful enough but ends up being so in the end. The girl ends uprevealing her true self later on and is rejected, however she risks herlife over and over and in the end... well watch the movie to find out!I rate this 8/10.

My number 127 movie ( contains story + spoilers )

Mulan is my number 127 movie. It was very funny.The story : A Chinese girl does not want to lose his father, who has to goto the army the next day. So she just joins the army. She did not to well inserving an old lady, and she had no fun in that. Her family engages thedragon Mushu and the cricket Kriki to get her out of there. At first, shecan keep a secret from being a woman. But anytime they notice it, and so shehas to leave them. When the army is attacked by another one, she used hermind to get them out of there. And she gets it. In the final battle shedefends with her cleverness the Chinese emperor from being murdered, and shebecomes a national hero.Mulan is a very funny film. Mushu and Kriki have very funny lines in thismovie. My favorite character is Mushu. He was just hilarious.I usually like disney-movies, and this one made no exception.I rated this movie 8/10 and recommend it to fans of disney-movies. Magnificent!

Truly one of the Disney greats! The first time I saw the Mulan movie Ithought it was truly horrible. After a few months I had a chance to watch itagain. What was I saying Before!!!?? The movie has some of the bestcharacters and songs ever in a Disney movie! Eddie Murphy Was a little cornybut other than that the movie blew me away!

The "Da Bomb" Movie of the year!! (Forever&Always really...)

This movie was tight!!! At first I though it was the typical romance story... You know what? I was dead wrong!!! This was one of the most incredible masterpieces EVER, and I do mean EVER, made by Disney. They finally struck it to the 90's with Mushu (Eddie Murphy) and 98 degrees doing "True to Your Heart". I really don't get why people don't like this film... Is it because it's not traditional? Is it because Disney changed the storyline? Or is it because it just damn sucked? Well....It's VERY obvious that most people who have made reviews on here say that this movie kicks ass, am I right? About the tradition thing, many Asian cultures, including Chinese, sit on the floor when they eat. I did that in a resturant in Taipei, a Chinese country mind you! Not only Japanese sit on the floor. And it was the Japanese who adopted the kimono from the Chinese. Chinese used to wear kimonos, it's just that they lost the tradition and went on to somethin' else! I'm sorry, but it looks like it's YOU who needs to do the research, not Disney. They've done a fine job already. My overall message is that this movie TOTALLY kicks ass and is bound to be one of the most triumphant movies Disney has ever made!!! Am I right? Give the people what they want!!

A great movie

I being a thirteen year old girl, had pretty much lost interest in Disney movies a few years ago. I'm not saying that they are bad, definitely not, but I just outgrew them. Well, I saw this movie, Mulan, on Father's Day and loved it. I immediately bought it when it came out. The characters are interesting and it was nice to see a girl who wasn't all for romance, like many Disney characters. I give this movie five stars because it is amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
