Out of work father Daniel Hilliard find himself suddenly divorced without custody of his kids. To solve this problem, he disguises himself as an old Scottish nanny to get hired by his ex-wife and be closer to his kids.
I grew up watching this film. It was my dad that bought it from America, and it is one of the best films that I've ever watched!! Robin reminds me of my dad in the sense that he would do exactly what he did just to be with us and much more. He was so funny!! He was also a great cook, among other things. I see that Robin's character is their father, mother, hero, ideal man, and best friend, which reminds me of my dad. He's so incredible!! Unfortunately, he doesn't end up being with his wife, but it's clear that they love each other very much. I love how his gay brother and his lover try to find him the perfect mask for the job. The songs they sing are amazing, and they fit the occasion. The second child is a boy, but I still relate to him. I don't think you have to be gay in order to relate to guys, so I think it's okay. It's a film with some ups and down like life itself. It's family-oriented, too. I don't know how Robin managed to switch from being a man to being a woman so easily. His voice matched both occasions nicely. They really do remind me of my wonderful family. Great story, great actors, and great acting so I highly recommend this film to everyone!!
This review is from: Mrs. Doubtfire (Full-Screen Version) (DVD) MRS. DOUBTFIRE (Widescreen), is NOT an ANAMORPHIC re-issue. It has the same LETTERBOXED substandard transfer from the 2003 release, plus the added features. The outside sleeve states ANAMPORHIC 2:35, which is a LIE and FALSE advertising. This is NOT the first time FOX HOME VIDEO does this. They also pulled this scheme with THE ABYSS!!!. You should complain to FOX and clarify this in your information for this item in your web site.the quality of this DVD is NOT up to 2006 standards, and FOX should replace ALL these discs with a quality new ANAMORPHIC transfer as advertised, or better yet, release it in High Definition. Shame on you again FOX HOME VIDEO!!
Mrs Doubtfire is a very rare case of a film . It is not exactly acomedyalthough it has hilarious scenes like the scene where Danny (Robin Williams)impersonates various baby sitters over the phone . Thisfilmis mostly a drama and one of the most successful ones in movie history. The script is very inventive : it uses the drag appearance of Dannyandthe comic talents of Willams in order to make the situation more funny anddigestible . But the main focus of this excellent story is the familyhistory of a recently "broken apart" house and the consequences of thedivorce on children . The combination of comedy and drama is perfect here(and I have seen the movie many times) . You will laughandyou will cry guaranteed !!! Ignore the stupid comments made by stupid people " Can 'thisown family recognise him ?? " . The make up is very successful andevenif it wasn 't the viewer will always have to forgive some minor faults inorder to accept the story of any film . Robin Willams is perfectboth as a comic and as a dramatic role . Sally Field is also very good.Pierce Brosnan and the children give solid performances . Enough time hasbeen wasted . If you like dramatic comedies with characters and laughs ,stop reading and see it now . 9 /10
not opened But seen this movie enough times Its a wonderful family movie, to be watched over and over. Will never get bored with it.Robin Williams is a great actor, who maked the film and Sally Fields is an exceptional actress. The two makes this a great movie.
The song "Dude (look like a lady)" will never be forgotten. This songis played in a memorable movie with stars, Robin Williams and SallyFields, winning an Oscar along with a Golden Globe. Robin Williamsplays one of his best roles as Mrs. Doubtfire, even though this moviewas made in 1993 it is still a sensational hit today. Filled withcomedy and still showing real life by telling the truth of how "bad"parents only get to see their kids when someone else is watching, andonly for a limited of time, this movie was truly made before its time! Robin Williams acting as Daniel Hillard is in a testing relationshipand becomes a divorced father who is at stake of only being able to seehis kids for a limited time on certain days. Williams then turns in toMrs. Doubtfire, a cross-dressing old English nanny, in an attempt tosee his children and to be with them everyday. This clever plan turnsin to a tremendous disaster and Daniel may never see his childrenagain. The cameras are brilliantly used by zooming in on peoples faces at theright moment and making the audience feel as if they are in the movie. One example is when Mrs. Hillard yells it's over in one of the fightswith her husband. Daniel says it can not be over because they love eachother. After that point the camera zooms in slowly on Mrs. Hillard'sface to show that she is not even sure that she loves her husbandanymore. Although throughout the whole movie eye-level camera actionwas used. This makes you feel like you are actually involved in themovie and at times like that character was talking to you. Increasingthe emotion that you feel for the characters. During the court roomscene, going over the divorce, a rear lighting was used, which may havebeen indicating that Daniel is truly not that bad of a father. Themusic also adds to the effect that Mrs. Doubtfire is actually a man.Including the songs of "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" and "Walk like a Man"which will make you want to get up and dance.Characters in this movie do not only consist of humans. The body suitand mask that are worn by Daniel become a person of its own, a belovedEnglish nanny who any person would love to have help around the house.Robin Williams does a great job making the mask come to life working itfrom every direction possible from walking like a women to givingwomanly advice. Anyone who would skip the scene of the making of themask and going directly to when the kids are introduced to their newnanny would think that Mrs. Doubtfire is a first class, life savingnanny. This movie is definitely one you could watch over and over again andnot get sick of it, so show a smile, have a few laughs and shed sometears. For Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) is one that will settle in your heartafter you have only watched it once. It has just enough comedy in theright ways. As well as the serious side of showing how a divorcedfather holds on to the only thing in life that matters to him, whichare his children. So if your ever looking for a good movie to watch,Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) is a great one to pick up! I give this movie arating of four stars out of five meaning this movie is fantastic, butnot jaw dropping.
This film is one of Robin Williams' best to date. One of the bestthings about it is when he does impressions of people. It's hard for meto say which one I think is the funniest. After Miranda (Sally Field)told Daniel (Robin Williams) that she wanted a divorce, I wanted tocry. This was because he cried, too. At that moment, when the kids(Matthew Lawrence, Lisa Jakub, Mara Wilson) were seen, I could feeltheir pain. Still, this is an excellent comedy with a humanisticmessage for all Robin Williams and Sally Field fans. If you ask me, Stu(Pierce Brosnan) was a really nice guy. Before I wrap this up, I mustsay that the performances were top grade. Now, in conclusion, if youare a fan of Robin Williams or Sally Field, you're in for a good timeand lots of laughs, so see this movie today.
I Saw Mrs. Doubtfire In 1993 And I Couldn't Stop Laughing Its A FunnyMovie.I Saw It Again Last Night On PBS Its A Great Movie I Give It 10 Stars RobinWillams Does A Wonderful Job On It.From Kirsten
Out of curiosity, Robin Williams character has a Scottish accent(according to trivia notes) but why does he mention at the end of themovie that he is from the island of England? If England is an island, where does that put Scotland and Wales? I've noticed this a lot fromthe North American culture.....especially on TV. I was taught thatBritain is an island consisting of three nations...England, Scotlandand Wales......therefore all three nations are British not just theEnglish. I know it sounds pedantic, but would people from the US liketo be called Canadian or vice versa. Please don't get me wrong......Iam not complaining, just wondering why this is so.
I have already watched Mrs. Doubtfire many times before buying the DVD. Still, the extra features on the DVD were wonderful, especially the deleted scenes. I wished that some of these scenes could have made it to the movie.
From the beginning, I was enchanted by this awesome comedic performance. Mrs. Doubtfire is about a man who gets divorced but really loves his kids, and goes to extremes to be with them. What does he doe? He pretends to be a maid by dressing up as an old lady. Robin does a great job of playing Mrs. Doubtfire, and changing roles.I loved this movie. Robin Williams does a great job at playing two people. It's really amazing how he can switch voices (everything from Gandi to a Mafia thug to an old lady, Mrs. Doubtfire). It's really a hilarious movie, and although it's a little old, it's a classic. It was so funny and is suitable for both kids and adults. It's a little bit suggestive in some places (but usually the language is advanced too). If you haven't seen this movie, then you should buy this DVD ASAP. You are missing out on Robin Williams at his best!
Robin Williams outdoes himself in this laugh-a-minute flick that also has heartwarming scenes. I loved the antics that Doubtfire pulls, both with the kids and with the other adults (s)he interacts with. Daniel even learns to cook by watching PBS cooking shows after a mishap leaves him out ... Still, the movie has its seriouis moments, like Daniel expressing his love for his kids by assuming the Doubtfire disguise and helping viewers understand the meaning of family. I loved it, and Robin was prefectly cast for the part.
This was one of the funniest movies I've seen. It's been a while, but I still laugh thinking about Ms D Rocking with the vacuum and broom.Right up there with Animal and Liar Liar. Wish they made more movies like those these days. Guest they don't have the budget or skills anymore.
The movie Mrs. Doubtfire has the mental capacity of a 5 year old. Heck, the script and the plot looks like it had been written by a bunch of gradeschool children! Robin Williams plays a man who got divorced by hisconservative wife (Sally Field) whom only wants her kids to study ratherthan have fun. Then he's loses custody of his children and does the nextbest thing and disguises himself as a nanny to get to see them. Hardy, har, har, funny! Excuse the sarcasm there. Robin Williams and Sally Field have wasted their time and acting talentswith this pathetically unfunny excuse for a comedy! Hasn't that 'Mandisguises himself as a woman' plot been used long enough? And the kids inthe movie couldn't even aim their acting at a broad side of a barn! Eventhe movie Glen or Glenda has had it's moments of hilarity, and far morefunny than this stupid overrated flick! I didn't even like this movie after I had seen it in the theaters! RUN!Don't walk away from Mrs. Doubtfire! Avoid at all costs! Rent "Tootsie"instead!
I don't have this movie on video but we rented Mrs. Doubtfire and it was good and I enjoyed watching it and I really liked Robin Williams, Sally Field and Pierce Brosnin and I thought the kids were good especially Mara Wilson. Well really everyone in the movie was good but especially Robin Williams who was hilarious.
For years, I have been waiting for this movie to come to DVD. As I had worn out the copy I had on VHS, this movie was a lost treasure. Now on DVD loaded with bonus features, this is the true DVD treasure. It's also nice to have it as a digital transfer so it looks good on an HD-upconverting dvd player. Best comedy of the 90's.
Mrs. Doubtfire is a great comedy for many reasons. 1.) Robin Williams isbrilliant in almost any movie he makes, including this movie. 2.) It'sgreatfor the whole family which is kind of rare. 3.) It shows that a man canabsolutely love his children and want to be a part of their lives. 4.) Themusic fits the movie and is great. 5.) It's heart-warming as well asfunny.
This movie was so cool!it is about these parents getting fed up with each other, and divorce.and robin williams (the dad) insitied that he sees his chlid and they say yes but only one a week.so robin williams dresses up like a british nanny from help of his brother and baby sit them.for few month it works well.then one of his chlid cathches him peeing like a he in the toilet! They keep it a secret then James Bond starets dating his mother then it get more funnier cause the revenges are fdunnier.well, the end is kinda sad cause they dont get married again but then he get to see his chlidren every day for a few hours.I hop[e i did not give out the ending!or the movie!
Men in drag is not exactly a new thing when it comes to comedies. SomeLike It Hot and Tootsie both did the theme as well as its possible toget. Films that were witty, snappy and almost impossible to dislike. And then along comes Mrs Doubtfire. A film that wanted to be Tootsiefor the 90s and didn't even come close.Certainly casting Robin Williams was a wise move. His talent forrapid-fire impressions and lightning-quick transformations makes himideally cast. And the makeup work is pretty impressive. But I think theproblem I have with the film is I just couldn't buy his reasons forwanting to disguise himself as a woman. In Some Like It Hot and Tootsie, the men in those films were forced todon drag through desperation, and it made their situations that muchmore believable. Mrs Doubtfire is aimed squarely at the level ofsimplistic melodrama. Robin Williams gets divorced from his wife, SallyField, and poses as a housekeeper so he can keep seeing his kids. That's not desperation. That's insanely contrived plot mechanics. Thetype of thing that only happens in films. Not real life.I think another problem is director Chris Columbus. Columbus, for allhis success as an A-list director, is not a particularly greatfilmmaker. At best his films are amiable fare, but I have yet to seeone film on his resume that is remarkable. Certainly Mrs Doubtfire isnicely made and very polished, but its also overlong, and it doesn'treally know what to do with itself. The film would have benefited fromsome tighter editing. The scene when the kids realise who Mrs Doubtfirereally is could have been left out altogether as it has no bearing atall on the rest of the film.Mrs Doubtfire is a rather predictable film too. You can see whereWilliams' character, Daniel Hillard is going in terms of growth. Hestarts out as an inattentive husband, and as Mrs Doubtfire he realiseshis shortcomings and changes his ways. Columbus is known for portrayingcharacters in clear colours of black and white. You hardly ever find ashade of grey in his films. Well, except maybe for one. There is one thing Mrs Doubtfire gets right, and that's PierceBrosnan's character, Stu. Stu is the new boyfriend going out withDaniel's ex-wife, Miranda. Daniel can't stand him, and has to suffer insilence as he watches this rich and successful man romance his familyright out from under his prosthetic nose.It could have been a lot easier for Stu to have played as aone-dimensional villain. Like a smarmy, silver tongued devil who hatesthe kids making it that much easier for us to sympathise with Daniel. But Brosnan is a good enough actor to invest a real sense of likabilityand depth into the character, and seems a decent fella who might justbe good for the family after all.The downside to this is it makes it that much harder to like Daniel. We're supposed to be sympathetic with Daniel's plight, and having himmake snide comments to someone who is really a nice fella just makeshim seem petty and selfish. And its an approach that sits at odds withDaniel's supposed emotional growth.Another question to consider is the comedy. Is it all that funny? WellRobin Williams gives another of his energetic performances, and youstill can't help but marvel at the way he improvises comic routines outof thin air. But Mrs Doubtfire doesn't quite match up to some ofWilliams' finest performances in Good Morning Vietnam, or Dead PoetsSociety. And he overdoes some of the shtick to irritation. Case inpoint being what should have been the film's ultimate comic set-piece.A scene in a restaurant, where he must be in two places at once asDaniel and Mrs Doubtfire.Like I said earlier, this film is overlong, and that is exactly theproblem with this scene. It goes on for far too long, and having himdash back and forth between dinner tables soon gets tedious. What itneeded was a more energetic pace to help things zip along. But Columbusis stuck on autopilot.Mrs Doubtfire doesn't quite plumb the depths of Williams' later foraysinto sentimental schmaltz. At least the ending is partly realisticabout divorced couples. But still, if I were Miranda I would have hadDaniel carted off to the loony bin after his bizarre antics. Not givinghim full visitation rights to their children. Mrs Doubtfire is OK for achuckle, but if you'll excuse the pun, its not that hard to dragyourself away from it.
Not one funny seen. Site gags that had all been performed before.Redeeming message: Kids, its not your fault when your parents getdivorced? Did we really need this movie to deliver this message? Theplot has conflict, but the villain is a caring, responsible, parent. The protagonist is a loving, but irresponsible adult. There is someoneto hold up on a pedestal. Being simultaneously compassionate yetreckless is such a tough feat. We really need to celebrate moreunstable role models so that our future generations don't feelcompelled to participate in society in a productive manner that isrespectful of others.
Robin Williams is one of my favorite comedian. Again in this movie, he'svery funny. He plays a divorced father who disguise as a nanny to see hischildren. This movie gives you something to laugh. It's a very good comedythat's cool to watch again. Williams shows us again that he can play amultitude of roles. It's good for a 8/10.
