Great family movie!

A blink of the cat's eye

**SPOILERS** Cat ghost story about a cat's, Margaret, spirit comingback from the beyond to protect and help those who were her long timeowners Mrs. Ashboro, Sherley Knight, friends from her both scheming andconniving nephew Boyd, Barrett, and unscrupulous local real-estatedeveloper Ted Riker, Nigel Bennett.After his wife suddenly passed away Wes Merrett and his teenagedaughter Natalie, Michael Ontkean & Ellen Page, moved back to Ringwoodwhere the late Mrs. Merrett grew up. Meeting Mrs. Ashboro in order tobuy her house she tells the couple that it's not for sale and that hernephew Boyd has no right to sell it to anyone without her approval.It's only later when Mrs Ashboro suffers a fatal stroke that thingsstart to become strange and ghostly to everyone who knew her. The dayafter Mrs. Ashboro's funeral her 15 year-old pet cat Margaret suddenlypasses away from a broken heart. The Merretts, with Mrs. Ashboro nowlonger living there, end up buying and move into the old Ashboro house.Not knowing just what's going on behind the scenes in town Wes &Natalie begin to be visited at night by Mrs. Ashboro's cat Margaret.The cat wants to alert them on the impending danger that's about tohappen to not only them but to Mrs. Ashboro's good friend and neighborBrenda, Loni Hallier, who runs an animal shelter in the town.Boyd had been embezzling his clients at his job at the RidgewoodSavings and Loan by secretly putting their money into this veryspeculative stock Graydon Industries that later dropped 90% leaving himas much as $50,000.00 in the hole. Getting it straight from thegrapevine that he and everyone else in the bank are to be audited atthe end of the month Boyd is desperate enough to even murder in orderto keep from ending up behind bars.Knowing that his aunt Mrs. Ashboro has a large amount of cash in a banksafe deposit box Boyd get's to have it opened but finds that it'spractically empty. Meanwhile Brenda is under pressured to sell herproperty, that's holding up his multi-million dollar housingdevelopment, to this annoying and pushy real-estate agent Riker. Thetwo sleaze-balls, Boyd & Riker, become allies in getting Brenda torelinquish her property by getting the bank holding her mortgage tothreaten to for-close. Natiale meanwhile had become very friendly withboth young Person and Kurt, Mark Rendell & Shawn Roberts, who both workas volunteers at Brenda's animal shelter and also have a stake in hernot having to lose it to the bank.Margaret communicate to Natalie to where the money, that Mrs. Ashborotook out of her safe deposit box, is. This lead her to a dry cat foodpackage where there's not only the $50,000.00 but a note, or will, leftby Mrs. Ashboro leaving it to Brenda to keep her animal shelter frombeing seized by the bank. Boyd finding out that the money that he sodesperately needed has gone to Brenda becomes more desperate then everto take it off her hands with the bank audit just days away and himfacing not only the loss of his job but a long stretch in the statepen. Boyd was such a nosy creep that he checked every transaction thatBrenda made finally finding out that she deposited the $50,000.00!Now at the end of their lines with jail and financial ruin facing themRiker and Boyd start to get real dirty in planning to burn downBrenda's place, including the animal shelter, together with her andeveryone including Natalie and Kurt as well as the animals in it in.Unknown to Riker & Boyd there was just one hitch in their what seemedlike perfect plan: Mrs. Ashboro's cat Margaret.Moving as well as exciting cat comes to the rescue movie with Margaretthe ghost cat foiling Boyd's and Riker's sinister plans. Margaret notonly saving the lives of Natalie Kurt as well as the animal's inBrenda's animal shelter but taking off after the fleeing arsonists andgiving them the shock to end all shocks that they'll never forget forthe rest of their lives.

Too bad they don't make movies like this any more.

Saw this movie on tv many years ago & instantly loved it. Have been looking for it a very long time on a DVD release & am so glad to finally find it. Certainly have plans on buying it very soon,in next few days. A charming, wonderful, funny, family movie to watch & enjoy.

Ghostly Fun, An enjoyable program

Upon stumbling across this feature TV film on my local cable movieschannel. I was pleasantly surprised as me and my nephew sat down andenjoyed it from beginning to end.A heroic girl moves into the house of her deceased mothers' librarian,of course this comes out later in the film.A very enjoyable film and being British we didn't know the differenceof where it is filmed, actually it didn't matter. It had reminisces ofa typical TV program Goosebumps.A fun family film, tongue in cheek not meant to be taken seriously.Thumbs up from me, even the soundtrack was well suited.As kids films go I rate this 6/10

a great hallowen movie

I first saw this in 2004 and have been waiting for the DVD ever since. I won't recap Matthew's review because it is complete. I will say I am glad this movie finally made it to DVD. I will be buying a copy. It is a family story with the highlight on animals and human courage and belief.

Ghost Cat is a Treat for the Whole Family!

This movie, "Ghost Cat" was very well done. It was featured on Animal Planet near Halloween time, a couple of years ago. I have been asking the studio to release it on DVD ever since. Ghost Cat stars a young Ellen Page, who already had quite the screen presence in this movie, before she hit it big in future movies. It is the story about a young girl (Page) who's Mom dies, and the girl and her Dad move to a new house in the town where her deceased Mom had grown up. While looking for a new house the Father and daughter see a charming house for sale. The house is owned by Mrs Ashboro, who lives there with her cat, Margaret. Mrs Ashboro points out that she doesnt want to sell the house, that her overzealous nephew, put the "For Sale" sign out without her permission. We later learn that the Nephew has an ulterior motive for wanting the house sold..namely the money that he would get from the sale. Mrs Ashboro is surprised when she sees the young girl (Page) petting her cat, Margaret, because Margaret isnt used to alot of visitors and doesnt do well with alot of folks. To make a long story short, Mrs Ashboro dies, and her cat Margaret dies shortly after...obviously of a broken heart. That's where the fun begins......Margaret, the caring soul that she is, comes back in spirit and helps the young girl and her friends to keep the house out of the hands of the greedy Nephew. Margaret saves the day, as cats so often do in movies and in real life. This is a charming movie that you will want to watch over and over again with your family members (two legged AND four legged). It is spooky, but not scary like a horror movie. It has just the right balance of fun, happiness, spookiness, and joy. I will be buying the DVD. I hope that you will too....it makes a great movie to watch every Halloween season with your family.

Simple combo, bereaved children, lots of animals, love interest

This is a simple children's movie with all the classic Disneyesquecomponents, evil nephew trying to get his hands on his late aunts estate,kind hearted woman trying to save all the animals and implants from thebigcity relocating to "start over". It's not that great - I only watched itbecause of the cat - the acting was rather wooden and although i wasfooledby the New York licence plates, my instincts were still good - it wasCanadian, wooden - why is it that we Canucks can do brutal stuff well like'life after billy' and the story of the Christian Brothers abuse, but wedogeneral stuff so badly - I'm not sure if it's just poor directing (afterallwe have great canadian actors who go on to make in in othermilieus)Anyway, simple stuff for kids, no one ends up dead (except the ghosts ofcourse!)

Cool Movie! Should be on DVD!

This is a really cool movie! I enjoyed it immensely, and watch it everytime it is on TV.This movie, "Ghost Cat", deserves to be on DVD!It's the ultimate Halloween movie for the whole family.If you are an animal lover, "Ghost Cat" will be one of your favoritemovies.Maybe if we all contact Animal Planet, or the Studio that made themovie, and ask them to put this movie on DVD, they will.Ghost Cat has a special charm to it, that is sorely lacking in manymovies.It is a very special movie.Let's put it on DVD!

I love this movie!

This review is from: Ghost Cat (DVD) I really love this movie! It's a cute story about a teenage girl and her father (played by 70s icon Michael Ontkean) looking for a house to buy during wintertime. They come across a man who is trying to sell his aunt's house behind her back. Then they meet his aunt and she tells them she does not want to sell her house. The father's girl comes across the old lady's cat named Margarite and takes a shine to her. Anyway, the lady and the girl become great friends, but in a little bit the lady and her cat pass away all of a sudden. Strange events happen after the young girl and her father move into the house. She sees ghostly apparitions of Margarite the cat and the cat helps them throughout the movie. The show has a happy ending!

Nice family entertainment

A simple little movie involving a cat that dies and then becomes a ghost...our ghostly cat heroically saves the day when the evil villains try todestroy an animal shelter ... this movie is easy, mindless entertainmentforall ages.
