A good movie...

Good comedy starring John Murray (undoubtably Bill's brother) and JenniferTilly (you can't go wrong with her either, go see the ridiculouslyunderrated comedy "Bride of Chucky" for more laughs). I've seen thismoviemany times on cable and would watch it whenever it came on. I rated it a7out of 10.

That wasn't Tilly in that scene

It was that fat chick that was in Bachelor Party and Bosom Buddies. But Tilly is hot in this one.

One of the most underrated comedies of all time

I'll go on paper or on-line and say that Moving Violations is one of themost underrated comedies of all time. I don't think it is shown enough forone thing. I can name about 14 friends I have shown this to who have neverheard of it, but were needing stitches from laughing afterwards. The moviefocuses on a bunch of misfits who have to go to traffic school to get theirlicenses back. The leader of the group is Dana Cannon played by JohnMurray (Bill's brother) who displayed a fine comedic talent in his firstfilm. His deadpan deliveries such as Woopsie,You kids have fun, Hey its notan ashtray, and when the tough get going the tough get going in their pants.Cannon and his friends give Halek, the teacher, hell throughout the course.Halek holds a personal grudge to Cannon because he's responsible forscrewing up his promotion as a cop. There's even some love interest in thefilm. The puppeteer, the dieter, the horror movie-maniac, the "doc", theblind old lady all fill their parts very well. This movie has beencriticized forbeing too much like Police Academy, but trust me its as funny. The one-linersare memorable and the gags are plenty. It took me forever to find this filmto purchase, hopefully it won't take you as long to rent.

watch and laugh--for characters, not plot!

I typically reject pointless comedies as a waste of time, but this filmfalls into a handful of titles which, no matter how often one viewsthem, are still funny each time. I'd say that it's most likely due tothe genuine comedic abilities of the actors as their characters, asobviously a movie like this is not appreciated for its plot. Thecharacters are unique, have a quirky chemistry that makes theminherently likable, and the dialogue is just fun. (Think "Tommy Boy" or"Cannonball Run" or "Johnny Dangerously.") The main character, DanaCannon, is played by Bill Murray's brother, John, who is absolutelylovable in his cute sarcastic splendor. YOU WILL LAUGH. WATCH THISFILM...(admittedly, it's funniest with a group of immature male friendsor teenagers). (I mean that in a good way.)

one of my favorite movies of all time!

I have been watching Moving Violationssince 1986 or 1987. It still is veryfunny, and one of my favorite movies of alltime. I can't tell you how much I love thismovie. It's very underrated. The movie isabout a a bunch of people that go totraffic school for things they didn't meanto do while driving on the road. The peoplethat go to the traffic school are a bunch ofodd balls led by Dana Cannon,he's alwaysthrowing wise cracks at the police officersthat are the teachers at the trafficschool. One of the officers really hatesCannon well they both hate him,but onereally hates him. It's just a great movie with veryfunny scenes. I love this movie and alwayswill. I give this movie **** out of ****

Bad Film To Love

Not sure why John Murray didn't do more films - he definitely shouldhave, and hopefully he will do some in the future. True, his actingstyle is similar to his older brother Bill's, but he's individualenough that he coulda made it big. "Moving Violations" is good. Notgreat, but it was pretty well directed and it's got its strengths.Actually, it made it into theaters only six months after it was writtenand filmed - if anything, I'd say that they should have gone back andrewritten and polished up a few things. The plot does get stretched abit thin over the course of the movie...the best parts come in thebeginning and middle. The ending is pretty limp and the whole JudgeHenderson/Deputy Halik sexcapade and ensuing car chase sequence justgets boring with all the boffo antics. The character of Scott thePuppeteer, played by Brian Backer (Rat of "Fast Times at RidgemontHigh") doesn't develop as well as it should have, and the chick whoplays his love interest wasn't written well at all - BUT, Backer's starscene near the beginning with the puppet stage rolling down the hill isa total gut-buster. Despite these few problems, there are enough goodgags and Murray definitely keeps the movie afloat. Jennifer Tilly issuperb as Amy Hopkins the nimrod rocket scientist. James Keach, WendieJo Sperber (who had just done "Back to the Future"), Ned Eisenberg, andNedra Volz all contribute a lot of positive energy, making "MovingViolations" one of those 'so bad, it's good' movies.

DRIVING SCHOOL CLASSIC!

This movie is one of the all time comedy classics from the 80's. My brother and I must have watched this on TV every time a cable channel showed it...and it just kept on getting funnier! The film centers on a group of buffoons who are forced to retake driver's education school or else they'll lose their cars. Yes! That's the entire plot. The students consist of Bill Murray's younger brother, Jennifer Tilly, a guy with kids, a maniac who loves Texas Chainsaw Massacre, an blind senior citizen, and an assortment of token characters from every race and culture. From the plot and character list you'd never expect laughs to ensue but they come non-stop and never has 90 minutes flown by as fast as this. If you like this movie BUY IT NOW! If you've never seen it BUY IT NOW! For this price you've just struck comedy gold!

this movie is a violation(but my cactus liked it)

i should have known what i was getting myself into as soon as irealized some of the same people behind Police Academy, were responsiblefor this thing.but,i thought i'd give it a shot.turns out,all copies ofthis movie should be shot into outer space, where it can do no harm, atleast to us earthlings.i guess if i was 12.this movie might befunny, but i doubt it.the movie(and i use this term loosely)is basicallyabout a bunch of odd characters who get sentenced to traffic school inorder to get their licenses back.this movie is reallybad, alright, but, believe it or not, there are much worse movies, whichshould also join this thing on its outer space voyage.it is awful, butthere are varying degrees of awful.on the awful meter this thing rankssomewhere almost near the middle.i think my cactus liked it.i'm sure iheard it laugh a few times.as for my fellow human beings, however, ifyou are looking for a comedy-keep looking. a very weak 1/10

Moving Violations

A group of people, whose vehicles are held because of trafficviolations, must pass the test of hardened, tight-wad DeputyHalik(James Keach)and his very butch lover Virginia(Lisa Hart Carroll). What weighs against them, other than their own ineptitude, is thatcrooked Judge Henderson(Sally Kellerman playing the usual sexpotslut)is in cahoots with Halik on failing them despite their chances ofpassing so that they can sell their cars and share the profit.Henderson also offers her bed to Halik. Will they be able to outwitHenderson and Halik? John Murray(who is indeed imitating hisbrother..but doing it very well because he's quite funny)plays DanaCannon, the one responsible for costing Halik a big promotion. Halikand Virginia attacked a car believing it was Dana's but was indeedtheir chief's! So being busted down to traffic teaching really hasHalik gunning for Dana. The cast has some recognizable faces such as ayoung frizzy-haired, bubble-headed Jennifer Tilly as Amy, Dana's loveinterest and an employee of NASA! Brian Backer, with his bulging eyes, plays Scott, a puppeteer in love with a 15-year old punk rocker(whopretends to be older and passes off as an ordinary clean-cut girl untilthe bad side comes out). Wendie Jo Sperber has a hilarious role ashypochondriac Joan who doesn't understand that Fred Willard's "Doc"Williams is an auto mechanic(she thinks he's a doctor, he thinks she'swanting her car worked on..the dialogue of the scene and when she comesto visit for a "check up" are priceless). But, the real laughs come from Nedra Volz as Loretta Houk. She's blindas a bat and this provides some gut-busting moments of true sillinesssuch as the scene where she mistakingly goes into the men's room andwonders why her back is all wet(..or how she wound up in the class tobegin with;she actually drove her car onto an airstrip!!).

Elements of this Film's Plot Seem Inconsequential

At the time this film was made (the 1980s), it was sometimes the casethat a person might enjoy watching horror films. This cultural momentis crystallized in artistic permanence here by the character of WinkBarnes, played by Ned Eisenberg. In his many scenes, Mr. Barnes bringsup the topic of horror films despite their inapplicability to thediaphanous and delicate plot of Moving Violations. On meeting a woman,he asks her about her own tastes in horror cinema. Being told that aclassmate is anxious about his father's reaction to a dismayingcontretemps, Wink advises watching a horror film. When Dana Cannontells a largely pointless anecdote about violence in the Arab world,Wink arrives and announces that he, given his tastes for violence, would like to see such a thing. Asked to meet his friends socially, hearrives dressed as Jason Voorhees. Some sophisticated viewers mightfeel that they had come to sufficiently understand Wink's character atthis point and would not need to see his schtick reiterated withoutelaboration any more. Such viewers are in for a surprise as Barnesappears again and again, sounding his one note each time.Other fashions and political movements of the 1980s are similarlyexamined by the film (punk music, space exploration, perms), but nonewith the relentless jackhammer regularity of the mystifyingly dulljokes about Wink Barnes's taste in film.

I laughed so hard, I cried

This movie just happened to be on tv one day, and I taped it. My sister stopped by and I asked her if she wanted to watch it. It was so funny, neither of us could stop laughing. We had tears streaming down our cheeks, and I laughed until, I thought I was going to die. This is the funniest movie I have ever seen and I am not that easily impressed. My sister was trying to tell a friend about it, and she couldn't stop laughing, while just talking about it.

What a Stupid Movie. I LOVE IT

You'll laugh your behind off watching this film.I still bust a gut,and I've seen the movie twenty times. "Where's the Meaf" lady has a cameo, and Bill Murray's younger brother John,is the star. He's great, but looks and acts alot like Bill. I would never pay the price there asking for this video.Just go out and rent the film,or wait untill its on TV. They play this movie at least ten times a year.

funny as heck.......

This movie had its moments, plain & simple..... For example, when the oldwoman mistakenly sat in a men's urinal to use the restroom, I appreciatedthat as some original humor. So, basically, this movie is veryunderrated.......

Funniest move ever!!!!!!

This is the funniest movie I have ever seen in my life. I have neverlaughed so hard at a movie in my life. The movie is so stupid that itis hilarious. The characters are unforgettable and they all fit in welltogether to make this movie so funny. The jokes in this movie arebrilliant and the acting is excellent. This is the most underratedcomedy and I recommend it to anyone who wants to have some good laughs. The old lady who can't see and the hypochondriac are probably thefunniest characters but Dana is really funny also. I can recite most ofthis movie cause I have watched it over and over again. This movie isstill funny no matter how many times you watch it.

Wendi Jo Sperber

one of the funniest of funny ladies..... she will be truly missed byall................ I know she is smiling and laughing as I type.Traffic Violations (which I always called Night School) has her in oneof her best roles. The girl who sat on the car lift to get oiled. Youhave to see the movie to understand what I just said. I did admire thisfine actress and wonder why her death report failed to make televisionnews or even a mention on the radio. If you get the opportunity andneed a good clean funny movie to watch with the kids...this is the oneto look for. Just get yourself a box of towels to wipe away the tearsof laughter........Poooooor Wendi, and she had to run all those milesbetween oil changes.......even QuickieChange could not have writtenlines that funny.
