When a serial killer indicates that his next target is the Miss United States beauty pageant, the F.B.I. decides that they must get an undercover agent as a participant in the contest. A search uncovers no suitable candidate other than a bumbling female agent. Reluctantly, her captain agrees to let her join the team working the case. The team is led by a womanizing agent who has an apparent reluctant attraction to Bullocks character. She enters as Miss New Jersey, replacing a contestant who was discovered to have acted in a porno film. The pageant managers are immediately aghast about the agent appearing in the pageant, but arrange a top handler to come give her a quick makeover, with the expected outstanding results. Unfortunately, she still is bumbling. When the killer is suddenly caught, everything seems to be over, except the female agent tries to convince her boss that something is still not right. She has discovered that the pageant managers are being dismissed after 21 years for younger people, and Bergens character may not be as solid as she seems on the surface.

THIS WHOLE MOVIE IS JUST HILLARIOUS, I JUST LOVE THIS MOVIE. IF YOU WANT A LAUGH WATCH THIS ONE~!!!
Honestly speaking I had not very high expectations for this one. Not because I thought it was bad, but because so much isrevealed in the trailers nowadays. So I figured all the funny jokeshad been given away already. I was wrong. This movie is truly entertaining and hilarious. I don't rememberhaving such a great time at the movies in quite a while, even ifsome people think it is predictable, but... isn't that the reason mostof us go to movies anyway? To spend a good time, have a goodlaugh and hopefully forget some of our everyday worries? Well thisfilm did it for me. Congratulations to Miss Bullock, she did greatjob both as producer and as a leading lady, and the supportingcast was amazing. 10/10
It's one of my favorite movies, it was so funny you can't stop laughingevennow I watched it 2 months ago and I loved it Sandra Bullock was the bestactress for this movie I don't think it would have been really good if shehaven't played the part, I hope to see a sequel to thismovie!
This is a very funny story about a women name Gracie Hart who is an F.B.I agent. She is a bit of a tomboy and the men in the office look at her as one of guys.In this story there is a lot of verbal and physical humor.I found the story to be very funny. The entire cast were well cast for their parts. Both Sandra Bullock and Candice Bergen were realy great in their roles. The directing was great everybody in the cast was entertaing. The visual were nice.Overall this is a very funny film and I would recomend people to see this film.
85% of this movie manages to work perfectly, even though the writers allowBullock's star turn to dominate the script. The obligatory didactic feminist comments in the beginning are a littlejarring, and the related concept that Sandra Bullock can physically take themale lead on in a judo contest one-on-one and hold her own is, well, themost amusing single thing in the movie, and another nod to the didactic. But all that turns out mostly to be a foil. The movie works best when it is just being funny, which it frequently is,and hilariously so. The police procedural plot isn't much to write homeabout, and isn't intended to be. It's mostly a romantic comedy, with theromance deliberately understated. Hmmmm. Well, it is a pretty odd romanticcomedy, too, considering how little romance there is. Police procedural...nyet. Romantic comedy...odd. Yet...it mostly works. Thisis because of an affecting and skilled comedic performance from SandraBullock and a lot of little comedic skits that work just about perfectly. Itmakes your mind turn off to the other flaws, which are foils for a comediccharacter study that Bullock pulls off beautifully, even though she isgetting to be a little long in tooth for the role of beauty contestant andlooks like she liked that pizza a bit too much here and there...!;)On the whole, frothy and insubstantial, but so much fun, if somewhat corny, that it is hard not to like.
For a fairly unoriginal and so-so storyline this film is pulled off rather well perhaps only because of the acting and producing capabilities of leading lady Sandra Bullock. In her hands it becomes a very enjoyable, amusing and fun film where it could easily have been an unbearable mess. There is a bomb scare at the Miss United States beauty pageant and the FBI decide to send in someone undercover but the only person for the job is Gracie Hart, a total tomboy who wouldn't be caught dead in a swimsuit. With the help of Micheal Caine, of all people, Gracie is transformed fit for the pageant. That is, of course, if you believed in the first place that Sandra Bullock was a scruff. It's the classic make-over movie with the enevitable romantic storyline.Having said all that it is a very entertaining film. Sandra Bullock does a fantastic job, the suporting cast are solid and there is nothing that spoils enjoyment of this film. My advice; this is a perfect film for a night in with the girls. Funny, sexy, and completely delightful.
I love this movie!! Every time I watch this, I get a ton of laughs. SandraBullock delivers in this movie! She plays an FBI agent who goes undercoverin a beauty pageant. The fun just starts from there. Her character GracyHart is so funny! Even after she got the make-over, she was tripping overherself!! She was just funny! This movie can light up your day with (like Isaid before) tons of laughter! Trust me when I say, if you watch this movie, you will laugh. There are jokes in this comedy unlike some other comedieswhich I've seen before, flat out dumb and has no humour (Not Another TeenMovie, Black Knight). Benjamin Bratt was also cute and funny as well asMichael Cain.
Miss Congeniality is one of the "Beast Makeover Movies" of our times.BTW, I am a huge fan of makeover films. I love watching "before andafter" type stuff in movies, TV shows...just about anything. In fact, Iam kinda addicted to that stuff and seek it out. I even love shows likeThe Swan and Dr. 90210. My friends and I love Kim Kardashian (and NEVERmiss KUWTK) because of how beautiful she is (even if she has neverreally actually done anything in movies). But she looks like what mostof us aspire to, but don't...which BTW, DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE AREUNHAPPY AT ALL. We just appreciate beautiful looking people like someothers appreciate beautiful art or beautiful scenery. With that in mind, my friends and I have compiled a list of "10 BESTMAKEOVER MOVIES" of recent times (after 1995).And here they are: (in random order) 1) CLUELESS 2) PRETTY WOMAN 3) THEDEVIL WEARS PRADA 4) JOHN TUCKER MUST DIE 5) MAID IN MANHATTAN 6) MYBIG FAT Greek WEDDING 7) SHE'S ALL THAT 8) MISS CONGENIALITY 9) MEANGIRLS 10) AMERICANIZING SHELLEY.Although, personally...CLUELESS is #1 and all the others are #2.I am also putting together a different list of "10 BEST MAKEOVERMOVIES" of all times (prioe to 1995). Please do post me a messagevoting for your "10 BEST MAKEOVER MOVIES" prior to 1995. And yes, I SOTOTALLY recommend this film (if you haven't already watchedit)...whether you like "makeover movies" or not.
Like many, I didn't expect much from this Sandra Bullock vehicle. Wrong! This is one of the funniest comedies I've seen in the last few years. Wittywriting, great timing and execution--really funny stuff! The ending was abit predictable, but apart from that I really don't see how Meet theParents(for instance) could be considered a "better movie" than Miss Congeniality. The laugh-count difference was huge!Did I forget to mention how "charming" this comedy was? I reallyrecommendit for all...
this Sandra Bullock vehicle is watchable, and has some amusingmoments.most of those amusing moments come from Michael Caine, with afew laughs from William Shatner.the plot is simple.Federal Agent GracieHart(Sandra Bullock)has to go undercover as a contestant in the MissUnited States beauty pageant as her latest assignment.i won't give awaythe reason for this particular assignment.but i will say that Gracie isa tom boy with no idea of how to be a pageant contestant.the wordscouth or grace,or elegance are not a part of her vocabulary.this iswhere.Victor Melling (Michael Caine)comes in.it's his job to moldGracie into someone resembling a pageant contestant.Caine gets the mostlaughs for the whole movie.other than him and William Shatner, the movieis nothing special.for me,Miss Congeniality is a 5/10
This movie is just down right hilarious!!! Sandra Bullock plays Gracie Hart- an FBI Agent who "doesn't own a brush" and must go undercover at a Beauty Pagent. There isn't any moment when this movie isn't entertaining. From Gracie's "snort laugh" to her sarcastic remarks- this movie will leave you laughing and begging for more!!!
the movie was entertaining from beginning to end. If you haven't seen it then your missing out on a lot of fun!!!!
This review is from: Miss Congeniality (DVD) So she falls over more than once? Physical comedy is ALWAYS funny and in this movie Sandra proves she has the talent for it in spades. But it is the face pulling that I thought was the funniest. The scene in the bar when Benjamin Bratt brings in the girl is particularly good. Of course, I would liked to have seen more of "that dress". I watched the DVD and then watched it again with Sandra's and the writer's commentary. This is a very funny movie. And I as a rule don't like comedies.
its movies like this which make me cry with laughter!!!!sandra bullock is amazing as usual as gracie hart pulling off visual gags and one liners perfectly.michael cain was also really funny and with a cute benjamin bratt what else could u ask for in the way of entertainment.if u find movies like austin powers funny this is the movie for u!!!!!people who didnt laugh at this movie r too stuck up or take themselves too seriously cos this movie is funny funny funny
Although Miss Congeniality isn't the most original film you will ever see inyour lifetime, it is a fine example of Sandra Bullock as a movie star. Thisfilm has been done to death, it has a truly unoriginal screenplay that ispacked with cliches to the point of insanity. It might sound like I didn'tlike the film...that isn't true at all. This movie lives and breathes SandraBullock, without her the film is a total bust. Only a few actors can hold amovie together and she definitely has the screen magic that is needed forHollywood. I'm not trying to take away from the rest of the cast, they areall just victims to a terrible screenplay, but the actors also fall victimto Bullock's unique ability as an actor. She stands out and convinced methat this film isn't a total waste. I wasn't the most excited person in theworld when this film appeared in theaters because it looked like a completechick flick. I don't really have anything special to say about the film as awork of art or entertainment, but I am a Sandra Bullock fan forlife.
And not too demanding but not exactly a no-brainer. It's the perfectmovie to relax to. Sandra Bullock is charming enough as a tough,tom-boy FBI agent and the resulting hijinks as she tries to track downa Miss America killer is amusing fare indeed. The direction, although pedestrian, has enough flare and the script hasenough interesting moments to make the by-the-numbers film-makingdisappear. The characters are interesting too. Benjamin Bratt was myfave but the others, including some of the Pageant contestantsstrangely enough, were entertaining although not engaging. The film does have flaws (Sandra Bullock's laugh and some over-sugarymoments) but for easy on the brain entertainment that neither confirmsnor contradicts Sandra Bullock's position as a Superstar. 5/10
Sandra Bullock at her best. I watched this movie twice and I definetlyhaveto see it again. Funny, hilarious and Michael Caine as gay designer. It isso much fun to watch. All the prejudice of beauty contest in only onemovie, and this is not a bad thing. They just show what all people think and thatit is not that way. Fun, Fun, Fun!
I'm almost ashamed to admit this, but I actually enjoyed thismovie.Does that make me less of a man?My wife brought this home and I was trying to read a book, but kept gettingdistracted by this hot babe.Ok, ok, the plot was REALLY stupid, but Sandra Bullock did a greatjob.Maybe it's because she's the ideal woman all us men secretly want - a REALLYhot babe who can talk football, drink beer, survive on buffalo wings andpizza alone, belch, and STILL manage to stay in incredible shape and turn uson. There, I justified why I like this movie. ;)8/10
I love this movie. I've watched it 2 times (soon to be 3, hopefully) and I know that I'm going to have to break down and buy it. It's the first movie I've ever seen with Sandra Bullock in it, and she's now one of my favorite actresses. A definite must-see.
The beauty pageant part of this film is cute. The FBI crime storyelement is both annoying and not needed. The first twenty-three minute segment, which sets up the crime story,is full of irritating stereotypes and plot clichés. The back-story andcurrent job duties of Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock), a tough-as-nailsand decidedly uncultured FBI agent, I find not the least bitinteresting. The FBI guys in general, and Chief McDonald (Ernie Hudson)in particular, are annoyingly generic police characters. But finally, after twenty-three minutes, the parody of beauty pageantsbegins. Michael Caine plays a classy "beauty consultant" who tries totransform the gauche Gracie Hart into a graceful queen, as she goesundercover. And some of the dialogue is funny, like when Caine'scharacter disdains the way Gracie walks: "I haven't seen a walk likethat since Jurassic Park". Later, in discussing talent competition, helaments "I once had a girl who rearranged furniture".Candice Bergen makes a terrific pageant organizer. And William Shatneris surprisingly good as the smarmy pageant MC. The pageant itself is ahoot. When the MC asks Miss Rhode Island: "Describe your perfect date",she pauses, giggles, then responds: "That's a tough one. I'd have tosay April 25th, because it's not too hot and not too cold; all you needis a light jacket". Funny stuff. The pageant climax is wonderfully uncivil, and very well choreographed,as the runners-up behave in ways that belie the expected graciousnessof the contestants, while the MC tries to maintain normalcy as he singsan idealistic song, totally at odds with the chaos on stage. For her part, Sandra Bullock lays it on a little too thick with theclumsy, unrefined act. But the real distraction for me is the entireFBI intrusion. I would have preferred a simple spoof of pageants, sansboorish behavior.Yet, despite this, "Miss Congeniality" is still worth watching, for thehumor, the casting, and especially the stinging satire of beautypageants.
