Melanie Griffith's tribute to Jane Fonda?

I am always interested to see what actors can and will do in their work. Igot such a strong Klute vibe from Ms. Griffith in the beginning of thismovie. And it was nice to see Ed Harris just be Dad. The story itself isone of those adult fantasies that utilizes the kid mystique. Of coursethe-Hooker-and-the-Dad plays out an adult fantasy of its own. It turned outnot to be a movie i would share with kids, in spite of its rating. It's a"yeah, sure" movie, white bread with way too much jam. BUT, i'm still gladi saw the work of the six pros who make it a viable (okay enjoyable--ienjoyed it)i'm-too-tired-tonight-to-move home entertainment. Yes, Virginia,there is a Hollywood.

Milk Money

I found it delightful and charming. Children see people honestly and without the condinscending, unfocused views that most adults have. Frank, the insightful and mischievous young boy, is taken by the charm and warmth of V, short for (Eve), the cartoon loving hooker with a heart of gold--A must see!

Hollywood's Twisted Values - Exhibit A

This movie SO typifies Hollywood.We get (1) another prostitute who is gorgeous, sweet and with a heartof gold. (2) the prostitutes are nothing but victims of the cruel andabusive male pimps; (3) kids ages 10-12 are obsessed with sex (I'mtalking about how Hollwyood sees the culture); (4) there are few highercallings than being a tree-hugger, this one chaining himself to a treeto save some wetlands.On and on and on it goes in ultra-Liberal, politically-correct,morally-clueless Hollywood. Well, to be fair, the movie did have lotsof charm and it's always nice to see Ed Harris actually play againsttype, meaning play a decent human being. Melanie Griffith never lookedbetter, either. Too bad the story was so stupid and insulting.

Waste of talent

Sometimes filmmakers can't restrict themselves. They justputtoo many themes in one movie. This is a perfect example ofit.Here we watch a story about a young kid who lost his motherandhas some trouble with women. There is also a hooker who wantstoescape from her environment. We even can find a lonelyfatherwho preserves a swamp (??). And last but not least we havesomehoodlums who are in search of some vanished dollars.Can you make a coherent story out of this ?The director and writer think they can, but never succeed in doing so.Instead everyone should have restricted themselves to the strongest elementof this movie, the love story between a lonelywidower and a desperate hooker. Melanie Griffith is always charming (what asexy voice !) and Ed Harris is a good actor.What a waste of talent !

Yet Another Austin Powers

I love all the Austin Powers movie. This movie wasn't quite as good as the others but it was still hilarious as always. I don't think Beyonce is such a great actor, but Mike Myers is a great comedian. I also love Seth Green and Michael Cane. When I went to see this in the theater, it was so full that people were sitting on the floor in the corners. It was great because when you laughed, everyone was laughing with you. If you liked the other Austin Powers, you'll love this one too.

Not bad but not great either.

I don't think that film is too bad,of course it's not the mostinteresting film I ever saw but I don't think it was the point of thatmovie. The all film turns around Frank (nicely played by MichaelPatrick),He never knew his mum because she died giving birth to him,OKjust to say with a plot like that the film could have been acatastrophe but because the character of Frank was played well enoughit did'nt. In other Family drama with that kind of story the kid isalways moaning and crying because he dos'nt know his mum or dad butFrank look more curious than depressed,Is acting like a real kid wouldin that situation,It's a simple but good thing about that film.And there is V,I don't agree with the comments which said she was aprostitute with a heart of gold far from it,V is very lost and she havevery low self esteem.I think Melanie Griffith was lovely as V and itwas different from character she usually play.Nothing to say with Ed Harris,he did is best with very little to workwith because we have to admit it that the Dad is a very flat and boringcharacter.The character of Anne Heche was supposed to be comic it was'nt insteadyou were wondering what the hell she was doing in that movie,the samego for Malcolm Mcdowell.the film turns around the relationship between V and Frank which iswell played by both Mickael and Melanie. Of course their is someannoying scenes with Frank's Friends and Heche/Macdowell but I thinkthe film is what it was meant to be, a heart warming family film and Ihad quite a relaxing one hours and a half watching it.

A Wonderful Movie!!!

I LOVED this movie, all of those bad reviews you've just read arecompletely wrong. It is so sweet, and realistic when it comes to theterrible reality of the modern-day slaves: prostitutes. It waswonderful that they showed that "hookers" are really human, despitetheir less-than-normal job. The little boy, Frank, was adorable ineverything he did, the actor who played him was wonderful. It washeart-warming to see just how much he cared for V, even though he knewwhat she did for a living. I would have my kids see this movie if I hadkids; it has underlying morals, such as anti-prejudice and the like.This movie definitely deserves a ten!

Griffiths best movie yet

I like this movie very much.That is because I am a sucker for a good romantic comedy.And this is a good movie.Harris and Griffith did an excellent job.I am not a big fan of Griffiths but in this movie she does an excellentjobof portraying a person who has never been loved.

Fine cast, fine story, fine messages

To be honest, this is one of the movies I thoroughly enjoyed when Ifirst watched it. Of course it is a simple and predictable story, butthe actual transformation did it for me. The three boys are awesome.The way Melanie Griffith and Ed Harris fall in love with each other andhow they find together despite unfavorable circumstances is nicelystaged. Michael Patrick Carter is able to assert his character'semotional condition, his expectations and dreams, which puts this movieabove the average family story, despite the hackneyed elements it mayhave. The happy end is indeed rather corny, but hey, the movie has amessage, it is entertaining and funny. Thus you may watch this moviewith your entire family.

Average Family Drama

Average family style drama suited only for liberal minded people.Thismoviecould have been good if it had better cinematography andscript/screenplay.Still,if you are a liberal and a fan of family comediesand like any of the lead actors here,you will probably ignore this movie'slimitations and be quite entertained by it's feel goodfantasy.......

Milk Money

Young Frank and his pals get an idea for the ultimate in excitement. They decide to pool their savings, bicycle to the nearby Big City, and hire some woman of the streets to strip for them. Things do not work out that simply, but they do meet V, a Hooker With A Heart Of Gold, who ends up giving them a ride home. Soon she is living in Frank's treehouse, unbeknownst to Frank's widowed father Tom, who thinks she is one of Frank's teachers. Soon, however, the evil Waltzer comes looking for V. This is such a funny, heartwarming and endearing movie. The interaction between the actors is fantastic. Michael Patrick Carter, Melanie Griffith and Ed Harris are all great. This movie is filled with wonderful enduring scenes that is truly a delight.

in this movie i am glad that the caracter frank can tell that even if someone has i career as a hooker that does not mean that there not a good person but really has a heart of gold.

I liked this movie. It was about a little boy who wanted a mom and someone for his dad to love. I could see something like this happen, but I was raised in California,,,

Somewhat contrived, but amusing in stretches

Bad direction, a weak script and a career-low performance by Ed Harrissideline 'Milk Money', a movie which could've been excellent, butwasn't.Onetime-respected-actor-now-reduced-to-B-movie-star Malcolm McDowelldelivers a hilarious performance with help from Melanie Griffith andtalented newcomer Michael Patrick Carter, but they alone do little to rescuethe film.The first half hour or so is perfectly on tune, then everything seems tochange gears and 'Milk Money' is pushed from a comedy to a sappy drama withan awful dance sequence, and an ending that's even worse. To complicatematters even more, Harris is completely miscast, and future star Anne Hecheis seriously underused.

Someone wanna tell me just who this movie is aimed at?

Okay so it is a story about a young kid trying to set his father upwith someone because daddy has been lonely. Mommy is gone. So where doesthis boy and his band of innocents turn? Where else, a hooker! Horriblyunbalanced, unentertaining, and downright unwatchable. Featuring MelanieGriffith at her whiniest and most annoying yet. Ed Harris' performancewas,to put it kindly, forgettable. Avoid this one.

Lame!

I agree with the reviewer who said "avoid at all costs". Melanie Griffith's limited acting skills aside, the script is pathetic. This type of film about the 'hooker with the heart of gold' has already been done (and better) in "Pretty Woman". If the boys in the story had been a bit older, this might have worked as a teen-sex comedy (a la "Risky Business"), but the result is just plain dumb! The scene in the classroom where Frank (the main kid)gives a sex education presentation using Griffith as a visual aid was downright offensive - did he think he'd get an 'A' on that? Frank is supposed to be the hero of the movie; do 'good' kids (how old is he, 11 or 12?) go propositioning strange women on the streets of Pittsburgh with money they've obtained through selling porn magazines? Meanwhile, the scenes of his best friend's father seeking out Griffith for a tryst were not funny at all and just added yet more sleaze to this already repugnant flick. To sum it up in one word: Pass!

Milk Money

"Milk Money" is a movie with a perverse sounding plot, that is actually a charming (if not cliched and predictable) movie with Melanie Griffith in one of her best performances. In this film, Griffith steals the show. Milk Money has an interesting idea, but it is carried out in a way we've seen thousands of times before. Griffith's character is a character that's been played thousands of times before, but this film still works. Three preadolescent kids named Frank, Kevin, and Brad all long for one thing...To see a woman naked. All three of them are clueless about sex and women in general and the script portrays these kids exactly how they would be in real life. It doesn't exaggerate their curiosity, it hits it right on. Anyway, they figure in order to see a woman naked that they must have some money and go into "the city."So, they begin collecting milk money. When they have it, they ride into the city to find a woman who will take off her clothes for money. For a while, they're unsuccesful; But after a near-run in with a thug, they meet V (Griffith)who gives the boys what they want. I know this sounds perverse, but it's done pretty tastefully. Anyway, the boys get stranded so V gives them a ride home but gets stranded herself when her car breaks down. It occurs to one of the boys, Frank, around this time that maybe V can marry his single dad Tom (Oscar nominee Ed Harris). Why not? Of course, V and Tom fall for each other quickly (although Tom is under the impression that V is a math tutor); But V's pimp has been ripping off people and has recently been killed and his killer Walter (Malcolm McDowell, with a wonderfully campy take on the character he's had to play over-and-over again since "A Clockwork Orange") is looking for V. Does true love prevail? Of course it does but that doesn't mean that, in between the beginning and the end, you can't be entertained. I love the characters in this film and I love the actors who play them. Yes, they're trapped in this carbon copy script but they make it work...Especially Griffith, who takes the hooker-with a heart-of-gold thing and makes it her own. Not for everybody, but it's smooth and senseless entertainment.GRADE: B+
