3 laughs = 3/10

This movie had three Hollywood legends, one brilliant comedian, and 3bits that made me laugh. One bit was the end-credits sequence where Ben Stiller talks to thecamera.Another was when we were introduced to Ben's possible offspring. The funniest was when Ben Stiller was given the truth serum, andembarrassed himself at the party.Every single minute of this film (besides those listed above) is acomplete waste of film, and an embarrassment to the talent involved. The script is flat, the direction sloppy and amateur, and thecharacters are 2 dimensional and lacking of ANY purpose.Don't see this garbage.

I did NOT expect to like this but I did-and I didn't even like the first one!

SPOILERS THROUGH:The last thing I expected was to like the sequel to "Meet The Parents",a movie I didn't even like that much and that I thought was over rated.Yet I did like the sequel, "Meet The Fockers" very much. And that'sunusual for me. I don't even usually watch sequels, let alone frommovies I didn't like that much in the first place. But this movie isvery funny, in a belly laughing kind of way, not a great movie, but afun entertaining One.The main reason I liked this was the same reason I didn't like thefirst one. With the first one, there were Plenty of laughs but it wasalways at Greg's expense and there was a meanness present that was amajor turn off. It was almost a black comedy but one I thought washighly over rated. With Fockers, although some meanness is present, thepureness of comedy is much stronger then the first one. People play offeach other not against each other, and you laugh with them rather thenat them. There is some very good comedy in this and another reason isbecause the characters are very funny in and of themselves but in a waythat is accessible to the audience and easy to relate to.The Fokker's themselves are real, fully developed people and Hoffmanand Streisand are utterly hilarious. They work incredibly together andproject a sense of fun as well as going for the comedic. It wastremendously enjoyable watching them and seeing the zany antics theyand the rest of the cast, got up to. The movie moved smoothly as well, the pace was excellent and the laughs, while not constant, were veryfunny when they did happen.De Niro I thought was excellent in the first one and here he is stillgreat. This is one where nobody really outshines the other though, andeven the supporting cast(the baby, the police officer etc) werehilarious. The Fokker's are one of those families one just wants to seemore of. Their fun, their funny, and even Ben Stiller, who I'm not amajor fan of, came across as tremendously likable and much more funthen in the first one. I'm drawing comparisons because it seems likemany people preferred "Meet The Parents" over "Meet The Fockers" andwith me it's the other way around. I'd give this movie an easy 7.The scene where Greg, gets up and starts telling the truth washysterical and reminded me a bit of "Liar Liar". I would definitelyrecommend this movie. It was pleasant surprise to like a movie I wentinto thinking would be absolutely terrible.

Not Good but Not Great

I think this movie was pretty well made but it definitly had some flaws. I think that with that great cast it could have been alot better. Ben Stiller is great and very funny, so is Deniro but this movie wasn't one of their bests. So, overall I would rate this movie a B.

a few yucks, but mostly just Yuck.

This movie has a few ok laughs--Ben Stiller can almost always at least get a chuckle out of me. Unfortunately the rest of the cast lets you down. Dustin Hoffman is corny and unbelievable, Robert Deniro has more ham than a deli, and Streisand--oh god, Streisand. Barbra Streisand (or B.S. as I like to call her) makes me want to retch every time I see or hear her. Whether it's acting (if you want to call it that), singing, blogging, speechmaking, or kicking puppies like the soulless conniving parasite she is, she makes me want to jump off the nearest bridge to put myself out of my misery.Skip this movie and pick up a copy of South Park Season 1 which features the classic episode "Mecha-Streisand".

Meet Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand

This movie is not for children. It is also not for prudes. Having said that, I think this is one of the funniest movies that I have seen in years. There is little plot. Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) wants to marry Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo). In the film, Meet the Parents, he meets Pam's parents: Jack Byrnes, a hard-nosed type retired from the CIA, and his wife, Dina (Blythe Danner). Meet the Parents consists mostly of Jack bullying a klutzy Greg. In Meet the Fockers, the four of them, plus Pam's sister's baby, plus yappy dog take Jack's motor home to south Florida to meet Greg's parents. Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand are downright priceless as Bernie and Roz Focker. Bernie is a lawyer, Roz a sex therapist, and they both are the kind of ditsy characters that you meet in south Florida. (You meet them in California too.) There is a lot of sexual humor and a lot of potty humor. For example, the Fockers' cat, Jinx, flushes the Byrnes' dog down the toilet. (My cat, Duchess, would do the same thing in an instant.) I wondered how they got Jinx to do such a good job of acting. Humans generally don't train cats, cats train humans. Fortunately, Inside the Litter Box, one of many additions to the DVD tells us. As you might expect, Jack clashes repeatedly and outrageously with Bernie and Roz, but everything comes out fine in the end. I liked it.

Half Of A Good Comedy

"Meet The Fockers", the inevitable sequel to "Meet The Parents", has a sufficient number of laughs. Surprisingly, these laughs are generated primarily by just two of the stars and they are not the same people who caused all of the laughter in the original. Two years later, Greg and Pam (Ben Stiller and Teri Polo) are still engaged and anxious to set a wedding date. Before they can move forward, they have to introduce Pam's parents, Jack and Dina (Robert DeNiro and Blythe Danner), to Greg's parents, Bernie and Roz (Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand). The plan is that Greg and Pam will meet Jack and Dina at their home and fly to Florida together. Upon arrival at Casa Byrnes, they learn that Jack has purchased a super customized motor home and they will drive down to Florida together. They also meet Jack's grandson, by Pam's sister. Jack has taken an obsessive interest in his grandson, Little Jack, going so far as to teach him sign language and communicating with the baby. Greg knows that the meeting will probably be awkward and tries to prepare his parents, two free-thinking liberals who are a sex-therapist and a stay-at-home father. In "Meet The Parents", Jay Roach crafted a hilarious comedy of errors about a nervous young man going home to meet his girlfriend's parents. Every time Greg tried to become part of the family, his nervousness or Jack's watchful eye caused him to make some mistake. The events escalated until Greg was setting fire to a hand-crafted gazebo or beaning the bride-to-be with a volleyball."Parents" was a wildly successful film and proved to the world that DeNiro, known for his work in dramas and action films, has a place in comedy as well. Because of its success, a sequel was pretty much inevitable. "Fockers" generates a lot of laughter, but these are almost all created by the work of Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand. The filmmakers have shifted the focus that made "Parents" so funny. In the original, all of the laughs came from Greg's unease with Jack. In "Fockers", all of the laughs come from Jack's (and to a lesser extent, Greg's) unease with Bernie and Roz. Bernie and Roz, products of the 60s, are the type of people who were overjoyed when Greg lost his virginity, at 15, to the Latino housekeeper. So overjoyed in fact, that they invite her back to help with the welcome home dinner, and to meet Jack and Dina.Hoffman, in particular, and Streisand seem to have a great time playing these characters. Greg has inflated the truth about each of his parents, to make them seem more impressive in Jack's eyes. Bernie is a lawyer and Roz is a doctor, at least as Greg relays the message. In truth, Bernie quit his practice to stay at home and become Mr. Mom to Greg and Roz is a sex therapist to senior citizens. Because Hoffman and Streisand work so well together, they create the same effect as watching DeNiro in the first film. Much of the laughter comes from watching actors known for their great work in dramas letting loose in a comedy. There is something exhilarating about watching Hoffman play everything for laughs.Everyone else basically plays the "straight man", setting up the jokes. In a few cases, they aren't taking on this role intentionally. A scene in which Jack injects Greg with truth serum is spectacularly unfunny, but Stiller manages to wrench a few laughs out of it. DeNiro isn't so lucky.Let's talk about DeNiro for a moment. DeNiro has always been a busy actor. Most years, you can expect to see him in two or three films. In the past, I have always felt that he took on certain roles for the challenge of playing a different character. For instance in 1998, he made "Ronin" and "Great Expectations". "Expectations" was more or less a supporting role for him, but "Ronin" was a great action film. In 2000, he made "Men of Honor", "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" and "Meet The Parents". A mixed batch to be sure, but "Meet The Parents" stands out as a very good comedy. Lately, he just seems to be on a money grab; making sequels, bad horror films and terrible comedies, banking on his name to earn him large paychecks. Is he broke or something? Worried about retirement? I don't know, but how else would you explain the actor taking roles in "Showtime", "Godsend", "Analyze That", "Shark Tale" and "Hide and Seek"? It's the great DeNiro money grab. The problem with "Fockers" is that it tries to redo many of the same situations that were so funny in the first film. In the sequel, we have a beloved family Chihuahua, in addition to Jack's cat. Of course the cat came along for the ride, they're in a mobile home. Jack redirects most of his obsessive tendencies from his cat to his grandson, Little Jack. Of course, Greg will get into trouble when he watches Little Jack. Also, since we are familiar with the formula from the first film (every thing Greg tries to do right will spiral out of control and make him look bad), we know what to look for and aren't that surprised."Meet The Fockers" has a few laughs in it, and is best when we get to watch Hoffman and Streisand have fun.

Best Movie Ever!!!

I don't know what all these people are complaining about!! This movie was as good as the first!!! Go buy it, you'll love every minute of it!!!!!!!!!P.S. These people who didn't like the movie must not have been raised the focker way!!! HA HA HA HA

Unfunny, crude and vulgar

Don't waist your time and money on this unfunny, crude, vulgar movie! Not even the talents of Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, and BarbaraStreisand can save this disaster of a film. They call this funny? Theonly people who will laugh at this movie are high school students, whowill find the adolescent bathroom humor much to their liking. The onlybright spot is Dustin Hoffman who plays the eccentric Focker withrelish. Streisand is totally wasted in this movie, and Ben Stiller hasthe same blank non-expression all through the film. DeNiro's charactergets tiresome and irritating after about the first 30 minutes. Thetitle says it all. Absolutely awful!

Fruit Of Your Loins!

GREATEST MOVIE EVER! It was so well put together and so hystericallyfunny! From the great cast (Hoffamn, Streisand, Deniro, Stiller), tothe sex-crazed roles of Streisand and Hoffman. I thought the storylinewas great, the ending was great with Owen Wilson being the minister andstaring at Pam during the ceremony! I loved it..I watched it 3 timesthe first day I got it lol. Its a movie you cant put down. Streisandnever looked better! Now although I am somewhat of a Republican andStreisand is a full Democrat, I still love her. Id recommend this movieto ANYONE! It is phenomenal. Robert Deniro didn't change one bit sincethe last movie, and thats what is great to see. Only one of the sourcesof continuity used..another is Bernard and Raz Focker living inDetroit..if you pay attention to Meet The Parents..when Pam finds outGregs score on the M-Cats...she says "I have my sources, Gaylord orGregs parents sent me them from Detroit" and if you pay attention toMeet the Fockers, bernard says.."We were freezing our butts off inDetroit". LOVE THE CONTINUITY!! CONTINUITY!!!!!!!!!

Another failed sequel

You know, I actually didn't think the first one was all that funny, but this one failed badly. Why? Well, it was predictable. The most funny parts came from thelittle boy and the animals. The adults in this movieall sucked.... Ben's wife looked like she is on drugsand "The Fockers" were very unfunny. They should have gave bigger roles to the animal and used the kid alittle more because they gave what little fun there actually was. Didn't think this film shouldhave had a part 2 anyway.... Should have left it alone. But Hollywood just couldn't resist could they? Blah!

A Movie Made for Laughter!

Meet the Fockers was much better to me than Meet the Parents. It hadmore of a story and included more comedy than the first. I had treatedmy friend to this movie and before the movie had started he was reallydepressed and tensed. So as the movie traveled on he suddenly improvedin affection and started laughing and enjoying himself, and believe me,if you would see him before the movie you would never guess that asmile would appear on that face. So the movie had been on for an hourand his face was dying red. It turned so many colors in that two hoursthat I got scared and wondered if he was okay. But now I know that itwas just because of laughter. So when the movie got over, we bought twomore tickets and watched it again because neither of us had got enough. So I would say that this is a movie made for kids thirteen and abovesince it does have some content, but should be seen if you need tolaugh or have fun.

2012-05-05 04:33:52

Of course Ben Stiller makes the movie.

anything with that of ben stiller you know will be somewhat creative and funny as all get out. however, i did not find 'meet the fockers' nearly half as funny as 'meet the parents' to be honest i don't really think they should have made this "sequel" at all. yeah, it was funny. but i think the first movie pretty much left off at a perfect place. yeah, in part I we didn't meet greg's parents, but still, i just don't think this sequel did justice compared to the first one.PROS:funny, all you would expect from ben stillerCONS:kind of running in circles, their wasn't much need for a sequelOVERALL:rent it don't buy it

Chromium_5 2012-05-02 09:48:49

Should have been good

This should have been a spectacular movie. Think about it: you haveHoffman and De Niro, who were practically gods at one time, playing awashed-up hippie and a washed-up warmonger, coming together for theirchildren's wedding, like a self-referential, super satirical version of"You Can't Take it With You." That's what it should have been. Instead, it's a complete mess. I don'teven know how to describe this movie. It goes on for what seems likefive hours, during which a bunch of stuff happens, and none of it isfunny. Ben Stiller stands around giving that stupid pucker-facedwrinkly-eyebrowed expression he uses in every damn one of his movies, and whines. Blythe Danner wanders around saying her only line--"Oh,Jack"--over and over again. Teri Polo stands in the background withoutdoing anything. A baby swears and points at breasts. A dog humpsthings. A foreskin falls in a fondue pot. On and on and on. I hate thismovie. I can't figure out if Hoffman and De Niro were trying to getrecognized again, if they just wanted a few extra bucks, or if they'rejust plain going senile. Whatever the case, it's a sad waste of talent, and a sad movie. 0/10 stars.

neopol313 2012-05-01 16:53:15

Better than the first...

Well, simply put, this was slightly better than the first. Followingthe exploits of the previous film, "Meet The Parents", Gaylord Focker,Ben Stiller, introduces his fiancée's parents, excellently portrayed byRobert De Niro and Blythe Danner to his family, with the obvioushumorous consequences.Dustin Hoffman is on form and Barbra Streisand, who I honestly cannotrecall seeing in anything but this franchise in the last twenty years,is not bad either as the laid-back titular Fockers. Stiller's and hislies are sidelined here, as the focus is on the conflict between theparents themselves, but all is resolved by the end, obviously and eventhough Owen Wilson's cameo is pretty contrived and we could have donewithout it, it had its moments."Meet The Fockers" is marginally better than "Meet The Parents", Ithink because the characters boundaries were more clearly defined, thejokes were funnier and tended to be less reliant on the awkwardness. This lighter offering was more than worth the watch and made me laughwhich all you can ask from a comedy.

jts0405 2012-04-28 06:34:07

A Satisfactory Sequel

Meet the Parents was definitely a great comedy and yes so was Meet theFockers, but in a little more of an essence Meet the Parents wasbetter. Meet the Fockers basically picks up where Meet the Parents leftoff, only this time it is Pam and her parents who are meeting theparents. Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streishand do an excellent job asplaying the Fockers and the constant humor makes this movie a verysatisfying one. Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller all pairas very great leading men material in this comedy, they have a decentchemistry mixed between all of their separate experiences in movies.10/10, not as good as the original but still worth watching many times.

I Laughed But Was Still Dissapointed

For every good laugh there was an equal amount of dissapointment in this sequel. There are some funny lines that tie into the comical things from MTP(cirle of trust, male nurse, etc..). But the story line of this sequel just kept veering further and futher off course as it went along. If you can keep your expectations in check it's worth seeing, especially for those who loved MTP. If you are the overly critical type of person, wait for the DVD rental because there are a lot of flaws in this one.

A poor sequel....

I loved 'Meet the parents'. It was a great movie. My sister purchasedthe double box set, with 'Meet the fockers' included. After re watching the first movie to set the vibe, I was lookingforward to watching the sequel, that I had not yet seen, straightafterwards. What a disappointment. The first thing I will say is that 'Meet the fockers' just doesn't havethe same charm and warmth of the first movie. The gags seem moredesperate and the whole thing just seems kind of forced. The original characters persona's are slightly different too.Ben Stiller's role has changed. In the first movie, he is the guy whocan do nothing right, as he struggles to try and impress therespectable, stuck up and perfect father of his girlfriend, and has totry and fit in with their snobbish friends and family, who all seem toshare the same attitude and persona as De Niro. Seeing him fail ateverything is hilarious viewing. In 'Meet the fockers' he is no longerthe lovable fool, but is reduced to being the man stuck in the middleof a clash between his parents and his future father in law, whilstbeing the butt of a few 'nurse' and 'focker' jokes that we've all heardbefore. Slight glimmers of his former role are still there, as he failsto win over the affections of jinx the cat, and the unlikable grandsonof De Niro, but its not enough.Next is the role of De Niro. They seem to have turned him in to more ofan oddball in this film. It was slightly there in the first movie, butnot stressed as much, as most of it was down to his former job. Theyplay on his 'zany' side, and that respectability, and upper classmentality seems to have vanished. He has been reduced to a strangeobsessive guy, who just appears to be an unsociable grump. He becomesthe butt of Stillers parents jokes, when you expected it to be theother way round. He spends half the movie biting his tongue, when theguy we know from the first movie would have been straight in thererunning his mouth and belittling them, as he tries to make them conformto his extra high standards. The chemistry between him and Stiller isnot the same. The addition of Stiller's parents, Streisand and Hoffman, seemed like agreat idea, and fireworks were expected. It just didn't really work. There was little chemistry between Stiller and his parents, especiallynoticeable, between him and his father. There are so many missedopportunities (which I won't list because this is a standard review)that would have been great. De Niro was reduced to being the weakercharacter, which was not a smart move. A guy like him can not bechanged with such ease, which made the whole thing unrealistic, as didthe over the top performances from Streisand and Hoffman.Teri Polo gets pushed to the back in this movie, and there's not muchthat can really be said about her role. The 'loyal' and 'loving'fiancée is the only way to describe her really. She seemed moredominant and head strong in the first movie.Bylthe Danner's character (De Niro's wife) has been reduced to animpressionable and kinda goofy women who adopts the 'Focker' way oflife from the word go, and totally forgets any morals or values sheheld before. Once again, unlikely.Missing characters from the first movie, such as the pot head youngerbrother (who has been sent away to military school), Pams sister andher husband, Owen Wilson and Jacks snobbish best friends, make theBrynes clan incomplete.Owen Wilson's cameo at the end was weak, as his character had alsochanged, and is no longer the jealous, rich, stylish high flyer that weremembered. He seems to have become spiritual, and is a different man.The addition of Jack's grandson was weak, and he got far too muchscreen time, also giving the movie a childish feel.I barely cracked a smile through this movie. The jokes were unfunny andlimited, as well as being rather predictable and cheap.Gags from the first movie are simply reused and modified, which is kindof lazy in my opinion. Either that, or they were trying to purposelycopy the first movie because it worked. The whole thing was abit of a mess, mainly due to poor writing anddirecting. Now for the positive things....- Jinx the cat was on form.- There were a few funny moments, including a scene with a power hungrypoliceman, who has his own way of laying down the law.- Glimpes of the 'Secret agent Jack' are still there.- Ben Stiller is still quite funny.- Surprisingly manages to hold your attention throughout. If you loved the first movie, then you have to watch the sequel really, because it is worth a watch.I have been quite brutal with this review, but its not so bad that Iwould tell people to avoid it, as the movie is OK. Its just that thestandard was set high with the first movie, and the sequel wasdisappointing, hence the low score.4.5 out of 10 from me :)

The Best Comedy This Year!

I just got done watching this film and i noticed it didn't have thesame feel to it as the original. Hilarious!

Another Meet The Parents movie, and this one is cruder, funnier, and better! The Buryns family consisting of Jack (Robert De Niro), Dina (Blythe Danner), Pam (Teri Polo), Little Jack, and Jinx (Mishka The Cat) head in their RV to meet the Fockers. Little do they know the horrors they are in for. While there Jack is sexualized by Rozz (Barbra Streisand), hurt in "foottyball" by Bernie (Dustin Hoffman) and his discoveries of what happens to his family, and there pesky pet dog.Jinx is brutally raped, Little Jack gets his fingers stuck to a rum bottle, drinks some, watches Scarface, and plays with "Un-approved toys," Pam becomes pregnant, Dina becomes "Fockerized," and their RV is wrecked.Later they are all arrested by an annoying cop (Tim Blake Nelson), and Bernie gets them out.Hilariously done, don't miss it!

Hilarous

This movie is classic comedy movie in which has no rival in the previous few years. HOwever, you get many of the same old jokes you got from "Meet the Parents". Although most of them have been used before they are still funny and this movie is still worth owning.
