When films are released as straight-to-video, expectations aregenerally lowered. This becomes very difficult when the film isreleased as a sequel to a film that was already incredibly popularyears ago. This is the case with Mean Girls 2, the follow-up to2004s Mean Girls.

Why did this movie get bad reviews? It was a great sequel and has an excellent soundtrack. I wish there was a soundtrack, cause I love most of the songs in this movie.
I'd like to state first that I loved the first movie. Watching gorgeousgirls make each other's lives a living hell is very entertaining.Curiosity struck when I heard of the sequel. Disappointment followedwhen I saw it.There is one redeeming factor in this film and that is Meaghan Martin. Her character is kinda cool, which makes sense for the lead role. Theother ones are terrible, especially Jennifer Stone's. Her charactermakes no sense whatsoever and her acting performance in the film ishorrendous. The other characters have matured down to a level which isway below Nickelodeon-standards. The world would have been better offif the original script was recycled for the production of toilet paper. Even though I mentioned that Meaghan did a pretty good job, it's notthe same for her voice overs. The emotion expressed in her voice feelsawfully misplaced and doesn't fit in with the picture. The musicalscore sounds like it has been written by a mediocre Christian rockband. The jokes are an insult to comedy. The costume and wardrobedepartment should have their eyes examined. There are tons of things inthis movie that really annoy me and what it all comes down to is thatthis movie is really, really bad.If you loved Mean Girls, stick with it. Don't be surprised if you'll dothe same thing as I did when watching Mean Girls 2: switching it offhalf way. There are more lucrative and entertaining things to do withyour time. Like watching the grass grow.
It would make a great movie on it's own - but the fact its called "mean girls 2" makes you think it's a crappy remake rather than a proper movie; how on earth can you create a sequel with none of the original actors or plot? It's fab for a girls night in (I thoroughly enjoyed it), but bear in mind it has NOTHING to do with the actual "mean girls" film.
MEAN GIRLS 2 Â TRASH IT ( D ) Can someone still can do the honor andjust remove the means girls title from this atrocious movie. This wasnothing like the classic Mean Girl movie, which literally made LindsayLohan, and added an additional boost to Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfriedand Tina Fey's career. When everything thought Mean Girl is justanother teen movie, it come out to be something smart, sharp and edgy.Comparing to the original, this movie lacks in every department. Fromproduction, to direction to writing, to acting. It won't be wrong tosay that this was the worst tween movie I have seen in recent timecounting all the tween ABC Family movies as well. The Entire young castMeaghan Martin, Jennifer Stone, Maiara Walsh, Nicole Gale Anderson,Claire Holt, Amber Wallace, Bethany Anne Lind, Diego Boneta, ColinDennard and Patrick Johnson are average performers in it. Overall, trash this garbage, which is not remotely close to the Original MeanGirls.
This is not a sequel but a remake of the original. As a sequel goes, it rates up there with Caddy Shack II. The movie starts out with some smart narration as people are compared to the cars that they drive. The message of the story is mixed and lost. At one point it was a High School Animal Farm where the non-plastics were as bad as the plastics, and at other times it was about friendship. The movie starts out at about 4 stars and digresses to no stars during a female football game that made no sense. Rated PG-13, and that is about the age of the audience this film was designed. Three stars is generous, but I am old and the girls are cute. BTW putting sugar in a gas tank is not just mean but is criminal activity.
Mean girls was a classic, hilarious, and one of the best comedy's ofthis generation. Mean girls 2 just f*cking sucked!! No joke. There hasbeen some bad sequels, but this is one of the worst. If it were its ownmovie with a different name, then maybe it would have been OK. Butsince it was compared to the first... This movie wasn't funny! It was alittle kids, preteen movie. I loved the first one and I wanted to likethis movie, but its just not possible. It comes no where close totouching the first! The acting was decent. The " meanest girl" was OK,but Regina was the best! I didn't like the fact that it was turned intoa clean, cheesy, Disney movie. With stars like Jennifer Stone ( Wizardsof Waverly Place), Meaghan Martin ( Camp Rock), and more. IF youwatched the new one without watching the original and liked it, thenyou need to watch it ASAP!!! Iam just gonna take my original andpretend like this never existed. THIS IS NOT FETCH!
Awesome movie! way better than the first and better actors :)SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love how Mandi the main in the "plastic" isso mean and dirty but i honestly love Jo's role she was awesome and i'mvery happy that she was in this movie! she was perfect for it. Over allthis is a must see film and has an awesome plot and love how the movieends :)Also this movie may have some cheesy lines but not as much asMean Girls and finally the reason why i gave this movie a 10 is becausethe Director brought in some good actors and actress from other moviesand shows that i love and this movie proofs that a good actor/actresscan really act so this movie is a big hit with the actors and actresses
I thought this was pretty good. I wasn't expecting Oscar worthy performances or great writing just a fairly good movie to watch while I was bored. I really liked the comedy and the great life lessons that you have to go through during high school. It seems much tougher now days, and I feel sorry for anyone going through it. It's important to stay and to deal as best you can and this movie helps. I really liked the main girl (sorry didn't catch names but she was the girl who lost her mom) she was really cool and I love how she was different and didn't try to be "plastic." All in all, a nice lil' movie, but not great. Just high school antics, etc...Good messages though and I laughed and cheered for the underdogs. If your looking for anything other then high school stuff pick a different movie.
I love the first Mean Girls, it was funny, cool, dark and verywell-acted. I would go as far to say that it was my personal favouriteLindsay Lohan movie. This made-for-TV sequel was a mess, not just as asequel but on its own terms. Comparing it to the first Mean Girls, thisfilm feels nothing like the original, so much has changed not just inthe cast but also in the little things and in terms of consistency too. When it comes to the acting, only Tim Meadows and Jennifer Stone acquitthemselves well. Maeghan Martin's acting is awful and very forced andMaiara Walsh is far too subtle to be believable. Add to that adepressingly predictable story, terrible dialogue and humour, rushedpacing, (bad) sit-com-ish production values, generic soundtrack and afar too obvious conclusion and you have a poor film overall. And did Imention the amateurish direction and shallow characters as well? So allin all, a messy film not just as a sequel to a fun film but on its ownmerits too. 1/10 Bethany Cox
This movie was hilarious, in the sense that it was laughably horrible. It was the typical teenage girl movie that was disgustingly predictableand honestly the only reason why I sat through the whole thing, wasthat it had me laughing the entire time at how bad it was. It'sdepiction of high school was incredibly unrealistic, the acting wasmediocre, the plot was unoriginal, the jokes were pathetic; it was justso awful. Basically, this was just a Disney Channel movie with somecursing. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as Mean Girls or anythingbut I was hoping for something at least more respectable than this. This movie was baaaaaaaaad.
this is one of the WORST movies i've ever seen in my whole life, unlikethe first "mean girls".it is as terrible in every aspect as u can imagine in your worstdreams!!!acting is immature and nonprofessional, music addition ishorrible, the script is awful, the whole package is soooooo damndisappointing that i can honestly say - 1:30 hours of my life spent onthis movie are one of the worst times ever!!!generally, the second parts are almost always worse than the first one,but this movie is so far by its quality from the first "mean girls"that it fall way too far from my expectations..soo, i'd just advice u friendly:DO NOT WAIST TIME ON THIS CRAP!!!
All in all this movie was awful! There were some things I liked but alot of things I disliked. Mean Girls 2 definitely does not live up toMean Girls. Mean Girls could never be re-made. The second felt morelike a whole different movie. It didn't quite have that feel of thefirst movie.I liked the fact that the Abbey character was actually rich and she wasthe girl that was getting picked on. Didn't see that one coming.I didn't like how they tried to re-create certain scenes from MeanGirls. Such as the smock thing and the part they were playing footballand the plastics were doing their dance thing at one part. It feltstolen. The movie is also very very predictable. Within the first 15-20minutes I already knew what the whole movie was going to be like. The editing was not all that great either. The football scene couldhave been better and the casting was just not right. Its like the girlsthey casted didn't have the right chemistry with each other. It alsodid not help that half of them are from Disney
This review is from: Mean Girls 2 (DVD) Ditto everything reviewer Tracy Vest wrote. My sentiments exactly. I couldn't make it through the entire movie without doing something in addition to watching the movie to distract me from its awfulness. So, though the movie was terrible, my dishes and laundry are now done. And: The only good thing about this movie is that it made me want to watch Mean Girls, the good one, not this poor (even for ABC Family) imitation.
First off, throw everything you've expected out the window and judgethis movie for what it is. Ignore that it's supposed to be the sequelto Mean Girls--we all know that in most cases the sequel is worse thanthe original. If this movie had come out before the original, you canbe sure it would get the rating it deserves; a 5/10. If, like lots ofother reviewers, you are judging the movie as a comparison to thefirst, or at least partly a comparison, you will see it as a 3/10.It's disappointing that it isn't as good as the first, but that doesn'tmean it isn't watchable.Firstly, they casted very wrongly in my opinion. Usually it should besomething like... - Head Plastic (hot but smart and cunning) - Plastic2 (hot but not as much so as the head plastic; jealous for some reason)- Plastic 3 (hot but not as much so as the head plastic; dumb bimbo)I must say, the head plastic was smart, she was cunning, but she wasnot that attractive. Claire Holt, the "bimbo", is also in H2O: Just AddWater. In my honest opinion, she played her part extremely well... Theproblem is, I know she isn't stupid. She should have played the leadplastic. Although, this might not have worked because she seemed alittle too nice.Jo, played by Martin, seemed like a good choice. Far more attractivethan Lindsay Lohan, but I feel there was just something wrong with heras the choice.Jennifer Stone played very well. But, in the end, I believe Claire Holt could have played any of theplastics. It was just a stroke of bad luck that the lead plastic wasunattractive.Overall, I give a 5/10. A C-Grade. Not worthy of being as good as thefirst, but definitely watchable. I even laughed a few times!
Mean Girls 2 reminds me of another poor quality sequel that I watchedrecently; Dream a Little Dream 2. The similarities are so vast, youcould do a compare/contrast project for school on it. Both werereleased six years after their predecessors, both don't include many, roughly any actors from the first, both are low budget, and both areDirect-to-DVD. I'm surprised the DVD of MG2 doesn't include a previewof DALD2. It would be so fitting. The original Mean Girls was just seen by me a few months back. In myreview I stated "In terms of a teenage high school film, this wasalmost perfect. Its been a while since we saw a teen movie done well. With garbage like She's the Man, John Tucker Must Die, and other failedexperiments gone wrong this was a breath of fresh air to see one donewell." Looking back, it was a fantastic film. Just a few minor thingsprevented a perfect review. Now, the original Mean Girls has somethingeven worse than a seventeen year old getting a zit in plain site; alukewarm, poor sequel that branches off of the film. The plot: Jo Mitchell (Martin) is a High School Senoir victim to herfather's profession because she changes schools twice a year. Shesettles down her final High School year at North Shore High School, andhas her heart set on Carnegie Mellon University. During her High Schoolyear she finds "The Plastics", the bossy bitches of school who makeeveryone else feel unappreciated while they live it up.Along the way, Jo meets the outcast Abby (Stone). Abby has almost nofriends, and upon arrival to her house one day, Jo is faced with aclean cut deal from her rich father where he offers her $4,000 forCollege to be Abby's friend through Senoir year. A shocking, butrewarding deal. Jo accepts.Jo then turns down an offer of hanging out with Plastic leader Mandi(Walsh), and is now on the chopping block. Mandi witnesses Jo hangingwith Abby and is shocked. Mandi makes Jo's life a living hell. Whatsher plan? Well, Jo must've read an old year book about Lindsay Lohan'sencounter with The Plastics because she does just what Cady did in theoriginal; she tries to bring The Plastics down. The rest goes as "The Big Book of High School Teenage Movie Clichés"says. Things start out good, go bad, then end good and happy. Thisshouldn't even be related to the original near-masterpiece Mean Girlswas. It's just a poorly made television remake of a great film. Itshould've been called In the Race (anyone who's seen it will get thejoke).Meaghan Martin (Jo Mitchell) is Tess from the Disney Channel movie CampRock. Oddly enough, in Camp Rock, Meaghan played the girl she is tryingto avoid in this film. She sets such an image for herself in thatmovie, and it's awkward seeing her in the role of the protagonist.Still, she could be replaced with Lindsay Lohan and it wouldn't changethe lackluster script or inevitable low budget sequel feel this onecurrently possess. The wit is also lost too. In the original film Mean Girls almostrevolved around the way the girls spoke to each other. Whether wavingtheir hips or making some sort of uncalled for comment, the girlsshowed no mercy and were hysterical. Jo drops some fair lines, butpretty much the whole wit-filled one liners were missing. I loved thatstuff, where'd it go? Down the tubes along with the idea for a sequelto film that is 100% on it's own. What a shame Mean Girls 2 doesn't live up to it's name. Instead itcurses the franchise by adding an unnecessary "2" in the title. All itis is a remake of a film that doesn't need a damn sequel. It's clearlyjust a money hungry movie that doesn't care the reception it gets. Justas long as it makes a respectable profit.Starring: Meaghan Martin, Jennifer Stone, Nicole Anderson, MaiaraWalsh, Claire Holt, and Diego González. Directed by: Melanie Mayron.
Once again, a sequel can't hold up to the original, and they wanted tomake one to capitalize on the first one, but this one sort of held itsown. The first Mean Girls was a classic and something that should havebeen left alone, and I rented this one from Netflix out of curiosity, and I will admit it was not nearly as good as the original, but I couldrelate to the characters, in part because I remember my high schooldays. An outcast's father offers to pay the new girl in school her waythru college if she befriends his daughter after she sticks up for herand give her a ride home from the cruel "plastics." They become goodfriends, and of course the daughter is devastated when she learns thetruth-revealed by a plastic, of course! Rent this if you remember theoriginal and see what you think. It was OK at best.** out of ****
This Movie was awesome but the first mean girls is better because it's more entertaining, Anyway a student named Jo goes to north shore high school which was the same high school from the previous film and brought back the principal but everyone else is gone from the first one, Plus can Jo try to get rid of Mandi, The Cast wasn't that bad Meaghan Martin played Jo, Jennifer Stone played Abby, It wasn't the most baddest cast ever because the acting was pretty good and wasn't bad and also Jo goes through a lot in this film, If they made a third Mean girls which would be called mean girls 3 that is out of the question this is not bad for a sequel but if you make it a franchise that would be a waste of time 2 film's for Mean girls and that's it, This movie was pretty good but if you don't think their should be a sequel from the classic then don't watch it.
lol i put this a 5 stars its cute at the ending i loved it my favorite part is when jo kisses her boyfriend that i like lol i thought that was cute they make a such a good couple but anyways if anyone watching this movie your going to like it its awesome and kickback revenge girly punk rocker of all time ^_^
This title, shouldn't be compared with the original Mean Girls. It'ssimilar in title only. However there are a few redeeming things aboutthis film, few and far between. At around the 1 hour mark, i couldn't fathom watching the remaininghalf hour it was painful and silly most of the time. The football fightfor example.... Nun-chucks in football? Whaaaaaa? I think it was mainlythe redeeming features of the supporting cast that actually helped mewatch this film all the way through to the end. The main characterswere boring tedious and really forcing their way through the movie. Oneof the few things however that I was surprised that i liked about thisfilm was, as the film progressed the hatred for "the plastics" that thefilm was trying to get across, worked and it was surprising that fromthis drab piece of cinema it managed to actually get stuff across.I'm a bit brain dead from seriously watching the last dragging 10minutes of the film so i'll just finish this review with a quicksummary. The film, is OK for a quick background noise thing that youwouldn't pay attention to, but it wouldn't be worth playing throughmore than once.
I decided to watch this movie, even though I did know that bad sequelsruin their previous movies. And while I was watching this movie 3things came to my mind. 1. Is movies from my generation(under 20) onlygonna be with poor Disney stars, who think they can sing, dance andact? I hope not! 2. The pilot wasn't really that terrible. I mean ifonly the climax wasn't a football match, and the actors actually newhow to act for real. But even though I didn't laugh, I found the moviequiet interesting. Which leads me to my third thing. If only this moviewasn't called Mean Girls 2. I mean, I think people would have looked atthis movie with different eyes, if it wasn't a sequel. But in all, thismovie should have been called High School Queen or something, andDisney should have made it..
