Not as bad as they say

This movie is about two daddy's "little" girls receiving a hard punchof real life and getting over it. The movie is not great but is not asbad as they say. I'd definitely take my daughters to see it (on a 2x1basis).Do not expect too much eye candy nor great music. Don't even expect tohear Madonna singing. Expect a standard, well-made film suitable forall ages.Pros: A nice story for kids. Cons: 1) Maria Conchita's Spanglish wasdenigrating... the accent would have been enough. 2) No matter how hardI tried... that guy was still Data ^^

Sickening display of the reason this generation will destroy the world

Hilary Duff and her sister Haylie shine as sparkling young cubiczirconium professional heiresses. They have everything their bleachedblonde little hearts could ever want, until OH NOES someone said meanthings about their dear dead daddy, who just happened to be a cosmeticsmogul in life. So, OH NOES, their feelings are hurt and their stocks godown and all in all they lose about a million bucks out of a hundredmillion. The people responsible for this piece of garbage obviouslyrealized that not every pre-teen girl who saw this film would be quiteas stupid as the characters in it, and therefore would not be inclinedto feel any sympathy for the poor little bimbos, and so to make surethat our heart strings were successfully twanged, they burned down thegirls' house, had their car stolen, and had all their friends abandonthem. Actually, the girls burnt their own house down by setting fire totheir makeup, and they gave their car keys to a couple of men whoweren't actually valets. Oh, how I sobbed for their loss. I reallysympathize more with their friends, fair-weather as they may be, who Isaw as very intelligent rats who were finally blessed with an excuse todesert a sinking ship.The girls decide that dear daddy couldn't have done all those meanthings he was accused of(creating makeup that causes face-rottingcancer)and set out to prove it. They enlist the help of a hunky younglab technician and a hunky young attorney to clear daddy's name, andset out on a adventure fraught with peril(public transportation)andhardship(having nothing to wear).This movie might have been tolerable, perhaps even enjoyable, if it hadnot been for one major factor: the characters have no real motive foranything they do. The girls aren't threatened with destitution, they'reabout to make millions off of the sale of their company. They have allthe money they could ever want, but it isn't enough for them. They wantit all, and they get it all. They end up right back where they started,with all the money, clothes, friends, makeup, and teacup chihuahuasthey weren't actually in any danger of losing.The film tries very, very hard to provide the characters with somedeeper motivation. They're not fighting for the spare change they lostover the scandal, no, they're fighting to clear their father's name!They're not throwing a tantrum over hurt feelings, they're standing upfor themselves! The movie tries, so very, very hard, to show the girlslearning some lesson about humility or responsibility or some othersuch teen movie drabble, and it fails completely. Both girls get alltheir money and their boys, and the movie comes across as a taunt tothe audience. A sort of "Ha ha, we're so cool. Don't you wish you couldbe cool like us? Let's go get manicures! And after that, shoes!"message. In the end, this film might entertain Paris Hilton, but therest of us are left wondering why today's society encourages this typeof behavior, and more importantly, why we wasted 97 minutes of our timewatching this film.

An incompetent spin on the poor-little-rich-girl story, the film involves a lot of wardrobe changes and product placements, and a smidgen of intrigue and some chaste romance.

A great movie that I recommend a lot

Material Girls is a really hilarious movie that I do recommend, 'cuaseit's full of elements that will make u laugh a lot!I don't see why most people think it's a horrible movie or most peopledon't recommend it, I mean, if you're bored and you want to have funfor a while, laugh a little and everything, it's a really good movie towatch, 'cause you'll do that!Anyways, I do think the story it's not that original, but still, it'sreally good!!! It's the classic movie where the girls were rich andthen they become poor, and that's why most of the people think it'shorrible, but I think that actually it's really cool, 'cuase most ofthe people still thinks that money brings happiness, when it doesn't,it just brings fake happiness

typical plot, terrible acting..

The movies storyline was a good idea , I remember before I saw this DVDI thought this would a a good chick flick, but it wasn't hilary andhaylie's acting was terrible as always. I must admit I didn't expect itto be Oscar worthy, but a movie that was average and fun. In the scenewhere hilary (tanzi or something) gives haylie (ava) a pampering typesession she accidentally knocks over the nail polish remover and thenwhen ava is smoking she "throws the cigarette" onto the carpet with thenail polish remover on it, oh yes which is highly flammable! Soo...thehouse sets on fire, what do they do..? They run OUT of the housescreaming taking a few possessions with them. Pathetic. These are theparts of the movie I don't understand, I know they are supposed to beditsy and its supposed to be funny, but its at a point where makingdumb stunts like that make the movie boring and not funny..I would finda fart joke better...

Preety Good Movie, Funny if your older

Okay so every review i saw so far was this movie sucks or i wasted mymoney, and truth be told they are wrong. I saw this movie Sunday night,the 20, and i enjoyed the movie. I am a Hilary fan but ill be honest,the beginning was kinda boring, not completely. the funny parts of themovie didn't come up till the girls lose there money. and they are notchildish jokes, they made a few references to sexual things, but it wasone of those jokes where it could be two things, sexual or innocent,but unless you were older you wouldn't of gotten it.The only part that bothered me was you could tell that they changed thelines. like you could look at Haylie's mouth and tell they changed thelines but didn't re-film the scenes. my guess is that they had morerude comments but they had to change the lines to get their PG rating,but thats the only part that bothered me.All in all it was a good movie, not what your used to seeing Hilaryplay, there were a lot of adult lines and scenes to film. if you likeHilary and haylie you will like this film, if not just go see it, youmay like it you may not. But remember, even if you hate Hilary andhaylie and thats why you wont see it, they don't get the money for thefilm, the distributor does. so take and chance and see it, you may likeit.

not too bad

Fair enough, it isn't the best movie ever, but it certainly isn't theworst, i have to say. HIlary Duff also isn't the best actress, but shesa far sight better than some, and the fact that she is extremely prettydoesn't exactly hinder things. The movie in itself doesn't amount tomuch but watching it isn't going to harm you and itl give you a fewfair laughs along the way. I wouldn't go as far as to say i loved it,but it was fairly enjoyable, and i don't agree when some folk say itsonly for young kids. All in all, an enjoyable but unsubstantial movie.I recommend it.FYI, not all of Hilary Duff's fans are pre-teen,immature little girls.

The reason Material Girls is #1 on this list is because people can'tjust accept that Hilary is a good person and they are basing therevotes on who she is not how the movie was! If you don't like Hilarythat is fine but don't drag her movies down because of how you feel.The movie was entertaining and was a lot of fun , it was definitely notone of the worst movies of all time!It may not be the greatest movie ofall time but when expressing your discontent you don't have to be thismean.Everyone has there opinions and this is mine - this list is rudeto all the people who took time and effort to make these films, even ifthey aren't the greatest ones.

Madonna's anthem was only good-naturedly arrogant, but the SoCal twins, like the film's script, are arrogant, ghastly immature and offensive to any audience that isn't all of the above.

Had hoped for more.

This review is from: Material Girls (DVD) I bought this for my teenage girls and was hoping for a better story line but this movie was ? I don't even know the word to use but the Material Girls seemed pretty silly and they do not have high goals set for themselves. At first it was all about money and they somewhat learned a lesson when that money disappeared temporarily but I think the idea of finding happiness without money could have been handled better. I would not watch this movie again.

Material Girls

I really liked this movie, Hilary and Haylie are great in it! I don't understand what the reviewers were thinking (with their lower reviews), it's a comedy about two sisters going from riches to rags overnight and kind of learning how to deal with things. It really made you root for them!

Just because it has Hilary Duff...

OK, i know a lot of people think Hilary Duff is annoying and stupid andthats why they give her movies bad ratings. It's sad because everyactor should be given some credit because they put a lot of work intomovies. She hasn't done anything to make you hate her. I use to be aBIG fan of HD and people would always ask me why do you like her? Iknow the story was cliché and stuff, it was actually almost like theDisney movie Cowbelles with Aly & AJ. But, I personally thought thismovie was cute, not the best but not the worst. I would recommend thismovie if you just want to watch a cute, chick- flick movie. I gave thismovie a 5/10 because it was not bad, but not extremely good.

great movie

I always love Hilary's movies and this one is no exception!her andHaylie are great in it and Hilary shines again! Hilary shows she canact and has only gotten better with each movie she makes.the storyline in it is good and has again great family values and goodmorals.everyone will love it and need to see it. give Hilary and Hayley yoursupport for this one.and again Hilary has proved herself as to why she is my favoriteactress.Both girls are very into the part they play and knew there roles verywell.Overall the movie is great to take kids to they would enjoy it also.I rate this movie as excellent, as it is a must see for all duff fans!!highly recommended!! from Patrick elfkar2001@yahoo.com
