With the Earth running short of natural energy resources the Jupiter mission to colonize and exploit Alpha Prime seems to be the only chance of survival. Professor John Robinson (William Hurt ) together with his wife Maureen, his family and fighter pilot Don West (lead a desperate attempt to create a Hyper-Gate in orbit around the planet Alpha Prime to enable the rescue of Earth to begin. However, others have different reasons for reaching Alpha Prime and Dr. Smith sabotages the Jupiter 2 but fails to get clear and becomes an unwelcome stowaway aboard the ship. To escape the gravitational pull of the sun the Hyper-Drive is fired and the Jupiter 2, after a trip through hyperspace, emerges into a completely unknown part of the galaxy. A search of the star charts reveals that they are completely lost in an uncharted sector of space but this is only the beginning of their problems...
It was very very good!I have seen this film four times
This is a great movie with a good plot and cast. The only irritant was the docter but I'll get over it. I've had this movie on vhs for years so now it's time to get the dvd..
This review is from: Lost in Space [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I loved this movie on DVD. It was always refrence material for me, but the blu-ray although good and definatly HD did not match up to other blu-rays I have watched.
Boring crap. The interaction between Heather Graham and whatshisface was probably the most painful part. If my friend hadn't insisted we stay, I would have left half way through.
I saw this film today on Cable TV, and I found it really disappointing.I hoped to see something better than a cheap copy of an old scriptwhich was a hit when I saw it on TV. But what I saw was a nonsensicalstory based on an old Sitcom. I am not against sequels following a hitperformed by the same actors, and written by the same people, but totry to refresh an old story using different actors is merely a proofthat new writers and directors are not intelligent enough to create anew story from scratch. Or maybe writers and directors of the past weresimply better. Either way, this kind of remake is just a sample of thedecadence of the movies industry, where no new ideas are brought to thescreen, and that it is cheaper and requires less imagination to bringback to life something which was great forty years ago, not taking intoaccount that we (spectators) have memory, and the ability to comparethe original with a cheap copy. My rating is a 2/10.
since hollywood insists on remaking my childhood favorites im glad that i got lucky and somebody helped make this one pretty good. a lot of remakes trash the original idea and thus suck big time! this newer lost in space isn't bad at all. it is definitely something that you can watch with your kids. it's an update sure, but your kids will probably love this and it's true to the spirit of the old show. it's a kid's adventure through space with the robinsons. gotta love it!
This movie was so boring.Doctor Smith wasevil in the show he wasn't evil. They shouldhave made it more about of what happendin the show But it was some what entertaning.
Sci-fi actioner is set in the distant future where the Earth's naturalresources are reaching the point of depletion. Determined to keep humanlife flourishing, a family agrees to travel across the galaxy andcolonize the next habitable planet, but they're sabotaged by a schemingdoctor and find themselves hurtling through uncharted space.Accompanied by a stubborn, ultra-macho war hero (LeBlanc), they trydesperately to find a way back home. Has a good setup, and all thespecial effects that money can buy, but it overstays its welcome, suffers from lame characters, and features capable actors who deliveruninspired performances. Another one of those sci-fi flicks that caresmore about special effects than developing story or character. **
The movie rocks! But my Laptop (Gateway 9100XL) could not view any part of the DVD other that the movie. Everything else was choppy. Please let me know if you had the same problem.
This review is from: Lost in Space (New Line Platinum Series) (DVD) This film will invite viewers that remember the original series, however, the film is superior to the original series, as it approaches the same subject matter and objective of the original series, however, in a much more intelligent manner. The characters are not so much embellished, as they are enhanced and refined, and sometimes somewhat dumbed down. This film is highly entertaining, and William Hurt does not let down, the film is also child friendly, albeit, it is fairly intelligent. There are some cameos by the previous series actors, several of them actually, and this does not let down either. The film touches everyone, fans of the original series, and persons who have never known or seen the original.
I agree with the other reviewers ... just be prepared to sit back and enjoythe action and effects, and don't get yer shorts in a knot over the script,it's serviceable. You will want to turn it off where the pilot is tryingtoscore the babe with all his high school tricks, but shake it off and waitfor him to go away. If you liked most of the Star Trek movies you'll likethis one. It's a bit of a step up from Deep Impact. -Bob
There are some striking special effects scenes that we have witnessedover the years. From asteroids hitting the earth to dinosaurs roaming,we have seen some pretty spectacular scenes. However, a film full ofgreat effects is not a great film. Lost In Space is a prime example ofthis. When the Earth is dying in the future, it is predicted that we willsearch for a new home. This is the crux of Lost In Space, as the (swissfamily) Robinson attempt to fly their pretty boring looking spaceshipto the other end of the galaxy to colonise a planet called alpha prime.Onboard is the usual group of family members- self obsessed dad, intelligent but ignored son, angry wife and bickering daughters. Alsoonboard is Matt Le Blanc, star of friends. There is a couple of problem within the casting of the crew. HeatherGraham (playing the eldest child) is improbably beautiful for ascientist. She also comes out with one of the worst quotes in history('i don't like the sound of that sound').Unsurprisingly, there are those who oppose the idea of an alternativeplanet being found for the human race. One such man is Gary Oldmanscharacter Smith. He spouts bizarre monologues that sound like the bitsthat Shakespeare chopped from his plays. He tries to kill the Robinsonfamily and hotwires the unnecessary robot so that it goes crazy anddamages the ship. From here, the crew is lost. There are many problems with this film. Gary Oldman, a great actor inthe fifth element and leon, is not exactly the most threatening of badguys in this movie. he snivels and weasels his way through the film, finding himself endlessly punched by Le Blanc. The random space monkeythat the crew encounter is poorly recognised by cheap effects, and is apointless addition. Heather graham is not a scientist. The ship isboring to look at. and on, and on....The film also has silly leaps of logic. The spiders that the crew comeup against onboard the floating spaceship are clearly robotic, yet havea predators teeth. They are able to bite their way through the hull ofthe ship, and yet ten minutes later the ship flies through theatmosphere of a planet without even suffering a scratch. I'm noscientist but surely an incredibly hot atmosphere is stronger than aspiders teeth??? The ship manages to fly THROUGH THE SUN! i don't carehow fast they are going, thats surely impossible! However, a movie likethis is bound to be full of effects, and Lost In Space doesn'tdisappoint. The destruction of the Proteus spaceship is spectacular asthe Robinsons ship wheels away from the expanding fireball. And thefinal flight through the planet is great fun to. Matt Le Blanc playshis role well, looking heroic and not taking himself too seriously. Heis unintentionally hilarious when the robot is malfunctioning and heflies through the air to land on its back. And his pathetic attempts toflirt with Heather Grahams depressed looking scientist add welcomeheart to the film.If it wasn't for the budget, this film would definitely receive a lowergrade. The story may be dull and the acting fairly mediocre, but LostIn Space isn't trying to be Solaris. It just wants to entertain, and nomatter how much you try, you cannot truly say that this film bores you.
The special effects are good. The plot is diverting enough to keepinterest for most of the film. I've seen a lot worse.
Sorry folks, having grown up during the era of Star Trek, Lost in Space, Land of the Giants, this remake movie bears some similarity to the series but unfortunately did not come anywhere near my expectations hopes or dreams. Put me to sleep halfway through. Not worth the powder to blow to hell. Hope there's no sequel.....that would be more of a tragedy than the money spent on Uncle Billy's lies on tape......save your money for something else.
This review is from: Lost in Space [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I loved this movie when it came out at the theaters despite the corny acting. I love the way it looks and sounds on bluray.
As a fan of the television series, as well as the Gold Key Comic series"Space Family Robinson", I couldn't help but find this film engaging andwonderfully silly. The casting was superb -- the cameos of the original cast were great -- aswere the SFX. There are a great many quotable lines. And, the action wastip-top.For those who were offended by the "darker" style, I refer you to the first6 episodes of the television series. There was danger, excitement, and Dr.Smith was a very evil man. Then it got wimpy and silly. I won't even go intothe pilot which didn't include Smith OR the Robot!Irwin Allen is well known for starting with great premises, then turning itinto The Monster-of-the-Week Show. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea as wellas Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants all followed this "dark-to-damnsilly"pattern. But the first episodes were as dark and dramatic as anything ontelevision. The film did a splendid job and I still enjoy watching my DVD version as"... the monkey flips the switch."
I grew up watching the re-runs of Lost in Space. I thought it was theneatest show I had ever seen. Now, nearing 30, I still enjoy watching the episodes, and I was thrilledtoknow there was going to be a movie of the film.I was not disappointed with the movie! I can't understand why so manypeoplehated this film. Taken for what it is worth, it is an excellent, campyadventure.I wasn't "wowed" by the special effects as I was by the fact that theykeptthe "campiness" of the old show and mixed it in with some great action andcomedy scenes. The only low point is the slow moving last act of the film.It redeemed itself with the excellent "to be continued" ending! In myopinion, this film worked!Watch in in the Widescreen Version and turn up the surroundsound.
In response to the reviewer who is critical of older Lost n Space fans: I'm one of the "old fogies" who grew up on the original Lost In Space, but I have warm feelings for this remake too. Don't knock the "old fogies" who made the original popular. This version wouldn't have existed without the original. I do agree that this version deserves more credit. It's "new" and yet it doesn't fail to capture the imaginative fun of the original. It's a little too serious in places, but much of it is just imaginative fun just like in the "old days". It's very kid oriented and wildly fantastic. It has plenty of adventure and fun for my kids (and the kid in me) to enjoy. The makers were obviously fans of the original. They didn't abandon the spirt of the original. They didn't abandon the family audience. They did a good job on this.
Ok, the story is not terribly deep, but the movie is cute and good for a bit of old-fashioned escapism with new-fashioned state-of-the-art effects.
This is a great and entertaining movie, and very much worth the purchase, however when certain sellers of this blu ray version are emailed and asked questions and they simply do not respond, then one should proceed with great caution; the questions asked were simple, such as, where was it made, what languages does it offer, does it go to 1080P or 1080I, can it do German. However no response to any emails, I would suggest buyer beware, when the seller tends to ignore any questions about thier product. I am geussing that the product is an import, so ask questions before you buy about everything, like resolution, languages, pressing origination, and quality of picture. I would not buy from sellers who do not respond.
