Avery had to drop out of college to support his girlfriend Krista and their son Jordan, but he saved his money and is eager to get back in the game. He has returned to the swim meet circuit and is now having the time of his life. One night, after winning a race, he is approached by a college scout. Thrilled, he goes out with his friends Dre and Cashmere to celebrate. A gun used in a drive-by shooting somehow finds its way into Cashmeres car. The cops arrive, and soon the trio land in jail. Cashmere has an easier time adapting to penitentiary life than Dre and Avery, who are more unfamiliar with the gang life that pervades the environment. Avery clings to Krista and Jordan as reasons to hold on, but there is only one man who can, and will, fight on his behalf - Charles, his swimming scout, who believes in his innocence without question. Regardless of the outcome, Avery must learn to hold on to his ideals after the brutality he has witnessed.
i still cant get the images out of my head, i had nightmares after seeing this movie, i've seen some disgusting things in my life, but this!!!! was HORRIBLE. men, Stay AWAY FROM JAIL!!!!!!!
This review is from: Lockdown (DVD) I am not so much shocked at the content of this film as I am at how much I enjoyed watching it. True, it was brutal and gave a side of prison life that you would not wish on your worst enemy. What I enjoyed about it was the cast and the unique storyline, something that is usually not found in this type of film. I originally saw a screening of the film at the American Black Film Festival in Miami a few years ago and was equally as captivated with it when I saw it again on DVD. I would suggest this film for those who want a peek into the hard reality that so many live every day.
A friend told me about Lock Down years ago, but I never wanted to see it because of the contents that were described in it. Last night I decided to check it out and I have to say this movie is VERY disturbing. It was heartbreaking to watch a man have his manhood snatched away the way D'aundre Bonds did. It's already sad enough that many men are gay or are on the down low, let alone knowing that if he goes to prison and is not up on game the moment he steps into his cell, he can be taken just like that. There weren't any happy moments in this movie, and I couldn't believe the impact that it had on me my mood. I went from cool and calm to anger and depression. watching the way Avery and D'aundra went down all because of their "boy" reminded me of why I try to be careful of the company that I keep. This movie is no joke, I'm glad I finally sat down and watched it but apart of me wishes that I hadn't. This movie will NOT be on my list of must haves.
I've never been affected by a film so much!not even horrors! This film is soooo realistic and graphic that you tend to drift off and think you're actually watching a documentary and not a film especially the (graphic)rape and fight scenes. Its really sad to know that De'aundre Bonds (the man who gets raped) is actually in prison for 11 years which I found extra-ly disturbing. but anyway, this film is amazing, i'm so into prison films now but its really disturbing to think that this actually exists in prisons...but oh well, its a lesson, if u ever go prison, this is the kinda ish u'll be facing!
What makes the movie memorable is its authenticity.
This review is from: Lockdown [VHS] (VHS Tape) This is one of my favorite movies. Makes you think hard. Has all the elements of a good movie. Exciting, sad, happy...Definitly get this movie.Anton Batey
This movie is tiiiiight...... whats the word? dead muddafxcka.... duece sev
This is my favorite movie. I can watch this movie everyday. But I have to admit that I still watched the movie even when my boyfriend was in jail. But I was nervous as hell. He's out now and we watch it together, hoping that our black people want get into the struggle like that.
This movie was great! It depicted jail life to the fullest. I always tell my son, that by being with the wrong crowd or being in the wrong place at the wrong time can get you in a world of trouble and this movie just backed me up to the fullest. The movie is a must see for older teens and adults alike. It will definately make you think twice about wanting to be a thug or having a "go-hard" attitude. Please see this movie
Lockdown is the kind of film that makes you rethink who your friends are!!! Avery is aman who has a bright future ahead of him, and in the blink of an eye it's all taken from him when he ends up in prison for a crime he does not commit. The film touches on loyalty, keeping the faith, doing the right thing, and a strong will to survive. Master P being the executive producer and an "actor" in the film had me wondering should I bother watching this. I'm a big fan of Richard T. Jones, so I gave the movie a chance. I'm glad I did. The movie had a solid plot, and solid acting. If you are a fan of Oz, you will enjoy the movie.
Right - another prison flick. Another movie about a young black man, inthis case 3 young black men, wrongly accused of a crime, convicted andsent to prison. The statement behind that injustice is bold enough. It's a bit "Boyz n the Hood" up to that point. Once it hits the prison- there are few comparisons to match some of the intensity (how's thatfor ambiguity?).This movie has a few valuable segments worth the rest of its deficits.A few scenes may take you to a place you do not want ever to be. Thereare moments in the prison scenes where the actors are so credible itmight as well be real. The directing had flickers of greatness tocapture that intensity. But just like that, in a flicker you're back to watching a $2 filmworth a penny. Just watch it for the acting and directing behind a fewprison scenes that fairly represent "Lockdown".
I can't express the way this movie touches me each and every time I watch it. I recommend that every one that think the prison lifestyle is cool it's no big deal, watch this movie. If you have children getting into a whole lot, let them have a sit down and watch this movie. This is the real world when it comes to prison life.
This film was so predictable that it almost scared me into thinking that Ihad become a psychic! I had to think about something, because therecertainly was nothing in the film worth any brain cells.I think a group of amateur drama students in a high school could do abetterjob, if only having watched a few episodes of HBO's "OZ"!
let me start by saying that i am a fan of prison movies, and shows etc. such as Oz, The Rock.. this is the first movie that i have seen that actually bothered me. this film had a very gritty view of the life behind bars, enough to make you never want to get into trouble. it captured all aspects from having to separate from your friends in order to keep your own life in tect, to how the not so strong are savagely taken advantage of and forced to do against their will. i think this is a must see, but it will touch you.. peace...
This film was perfect th acting the visuals and on how great it was this is a great movie finally a movie for men and the ending is excllent they should relase this film they can make million GRafti needs an oscar
"Lockdown" is a pathetic attempt at film making with a litany of deficitstoo long for this forum. The film fails in everything from over-acting tosilly stereotypically characters to awful directing to....etc. Notrecommendable for anyone for any reason. (D)
Lockdown makes that excruciating and often terrifying ordeal of incarceration gut wrenching and palpable.
If you like 'Oz' you'll enjoy this movie.Predominately a African Americancast, this is one of those movies white america will not embrace, andbecauseof that it will get undeserved negative criticism. If you've been behindbars, you will relate and love this movie more than the average person.Buteven if you haven't been in the pen, this flic is entertaining with somerealscenes that depict life when your freedom is taken away.****/5.
this film is by no means lame.90% of the stuff shown in this movie is true.i seen this on the shelf and thought another jail movie.but it was no ordinary jail movie, with brillant acting by all, this jail movie would be one of the best ive seen.with master p and a short apperence by sticky fingers at the start just gave it even more edge.avary had a great swimming future ahead of him untill the revenge of a sour drug dealer(sticky fingers)finds avary and two close buddys behind bars for a murder they did not comit.now its down to survival of the fittest.with a savage rape happening to one of the three in the first ten minutes of being lockdown.this told me i was in for a good movie.but it turned out to be great.a must see.
amazon.com is the greastest site to order just about anything!!! when i do have the means to be, im TOTALLY addicted!!! *LOL*
