does your life have meaning?

It is not top notch but this film should definitely be given morecredit. it tries to remind us, yes, yet again (but I think no matterhow many reminders we get, we still don't get it,) that we should liveour life as if each day was our last because one of them willeventually be the last nd also that we should hurry to say our dearones that we love them indeed. Lanie is a woman representing thetypical ugly duckling insecure type turned into a beautiful careershark. She lives with the illusion of a perfect life, with a seeminglyperfect career and a perfect boyfriend until the prophet foretells herimminent death. she sets about to change the texture of her life,discovering how empty her life really was and rediscovering her trueself, dropping the quest for self-approval which dominated her wholelife.The actors did a great job. I didn't see Angelina Jolie in such a rolebefore but I must say she handled it with talent. Her acting very muchadded to the emotional part of the story. Ed Burns did a nice job too,although I had the impression that by the time the movie ending he gotslightly weary. also, the music choice was really great.Overall, the story balances between humour and drama, and while it doeshave its dose of typical elements, it presents the events technicallyvery nicely. There is a sense of completeness to this thoughtful story.Plus it carries a meaning which cannot be stressed enough. Does yourlife have meaning?A very good job indeed!

'Live every day as if it were your last, because one of these days it will be'

'Life or something like it' is about Lanie Kerrigan (played by AngelinaJolie), a news reporter who only cares about her career, her hair andfame. That's why she and her shallow boyfriend, an all-Americanfootball star, match perfectly together. But one day she has tointerview a homeless guy who has a gift which makes him able to dopredictions. Most of the time he only does predictions about theweather, football,.. but during the short interview they have, he tellsher that she has only one more week to live. First she doesn't pay muchattention on what he said but when she sees that his other predictionshas come true, she realises that the guy could be right about her too.This is the moment in the movie that Lanie starts to ask herself somereal big 'life-questions'. Is she really happy with her life and theway she is leading it? Is a great career really the thing that makesher deeply satisfied? Is the guy she felt in love with really the guyshe wants to spend the rest of her life with and the one who makes herfeel complete? Lanie realises that until then, pretending to be happywas more important to her than really being happy. She finds out thather boyfriend may be a great football player, but that he isn't the oneshe can have long conversations with about the things she deals with,that he's actually a very stupid and shallow guy although she thinkshe's very famous and attractive.That's when she starts to change some things in her life. She also getsjealous on Pete (played by Edward Burns), the guy who she hated themost. It's because he leads a carefree life and he's never worriedabout anything. He is very happy the way his life is. He doesn't careabout flamboyant things like fame and money. She realises that he'shappy, no matter what other people think; and that's what she isjealous about.Great movie with excellent performances by Jolie and Burns. Not sometypical shallow romantic movie with no meaning. This is truly a moviewith a great content although it isn't always that realistic. It is atypical feel-good movie and it makes you think about what is importantin life. I really enjoyed this and I don't understand why Jolie wasnominated for a razzie-award for her performance.I'll give it 8/10

Bland or Something like it 4/10

I gave the movie Tomb Raider a solid 7 because I thought Angelina Jolie wasincredibly hot and that was all the movie wanted to be. A glorification onher hotness. In Life or Something Like it, Jolie proves that she can lookjust as sexy as a blonde. Although there is a scene in which she shakesherbutt to the camera, I can't recommend this film because of her sex appeal.Life or Something Like it is too humorless to be a comedy, and tooridiculous to be a drama. Instead, it finds itself in the realm ofembarrassment. Jolie, who is always charming and successful, is of coursegood. As is Edward Burns. This movie just kind of floats a long, hopingyou'll just sit back and vegetate to each scene.The only thing I could think about was how much it would suck if I died,andLife or Something Like it was how I spent the last two hours of mylife.

It had Christian Kane

I bought this film as I had been collecting all films with Christian Kaneinit. I had not seen any clips to tell me what the film was about but Iwantedto get it anyway. I was very pleased when I sat down and watched it as Ithought the film was very good. Jolie played a good character,who behavedina way anyone would if they were told they were gonna die. But the bonusforme was CK,he did look very cute in this film.

This is why movie stars are important

The only good thing about this movie--and it is a VERY good thing--is theundeniable, incandescent, zillion watt star power of Angelina Jolie. It isafeel-good flick that is written and directed by the numbers that attemptstopush all the right buttons at the right time.Unfortunately, there are no surprises in this movie. You can see the endfrom the beginning and are always aware of what has to come next in orderfor that ending to happen.But Jolie is worth the price of admission, at least for a matinee. She isable to carry an otherwise blah movie by herself.

Poor Jolie...she just doesn't live up to her potential

The movie was fair, not exactly good and entirely confusing. Maybe theywere going for a surrealistic look?Jolie just doesn't give her all and her character in the movie is verychangeable so you never know what to expect from her. Personally, it wasvery hard to like her.Burns on the other hand is good looking, sure of himself and did I mentiongood looking? I was too busy lusting after this guy to notice Jolie'smediocre acting...Unfortunately he's more clothed than a Puritan (all youget to see is a shoulder! Dang.)So in short - rent it for the silly one liners and skip it if you'relookingfor something with quality. I give it a 5 because I enjoyed theman-meat.

Take a really interesting concept and beat it to death

For my tag line I wrote, "Take a really interesting concept and beat it todeath." If the movie had done that, it would have turned out better thanitdid. It took an interesting concept, then trivialized it. The leadactress' character did not deserve my sympathy. The best parts of themoviewere two: Tony Shaloub, as the prophet, was an interesting and likeablecharacter. I cared what happened to him. And secondly, the trailer iswhatmade we want to see this film. Average, average, average. When they showthis on T.V., I would watch local cable access first.

Huge Fan

I am a huge fan of Angelina Jolie's. And if you are too, this is a movie you should not miss. It's great as a date movie or not, charming and cute. And who doesn't love Angelina!! She's reason enough to own the dvd. And my husband will agree to that!

Great promise, which isn't fulfilled

Stephen Herek wanted to create a romantic comedy with a twist - ask a serious question: what would you do if you knew you only had a week to live? Unfortunately, the answers the movie gives are so obvious and predictable the 'twist' actually hurts the movie.Angelina Jolie is great, and so is the supporting cast. Edward Burns does an OK job as the 'I don't like to shower' looking camera man Pete.The only special feature on this DVD is a director's comentary. Unfortunately, it was put in the 'Sound Options' menu, where it can be easily missed by peope.

Confused But Watchable

LIFE OR SOMETHING LIKE IT has a premise of reporter Lanie Kerriganbeing told by a homeless man that she's going to die in a few days fromnow and right away I was expecting some bitter-sweet angst , a sort ofpresent day morality tale inspired by Frank Capra and I guess veryearly in production this was the idea but I was left confused . Is it aredemption tale ? If so then why does Lanie start out as a notunlikable person and remain a not unlikable person throughout the movie? You see there's little in the way of character development and thesituations and soul searching never seem to draw the audience intoLanie's fears . None of this is helped Stephen Herek's shallowdirection either In short this is a shallow film but while being confused as to whatit's trying to say it's also fairly watchable too . Angelina Jolie isbreath takingly beautiful and in many ways she's like a female LeonardoDicaprio in that her good looks disguise she's a much better actressthan critics give her credit for and imagine how worse the movie wouldbe if her role was taken by say Sandra Bulloch while Dave Newman'shaunting score also helps the movie greatly

Yeah right

Angelina Jolie could surely get better scripts than this. And a better hairstylist, her head looks like it is molded in plastic thanks to the whig.Edward Burns seems to like lightweight relationship movies so that'sprobably why he went with this one, only that the ones he does himself arefar better.A thing with romantic comedies is that you should preferrably like thecharacters in order to get involved, however Jolie's character comes off asquite obnoxious and self-involved. Yeah, I know, but completely without anycharm. That also makes you bog your brain why Ed Burn's character would wanther - he simple down-to-earth philosophy, she as shallow as a Barbie doll -there is absolutely no reason for that. On the other hand, that's about allyou couldn't figure out in advance in the film, that's how scenario 1A thisscript is. But I wonder if they would stay together more than one week afterthe script came to an end.

Very Well Acted and entertaining

Probably one of the most pointless movies you'll ever see.

The movie feels totally pointless because of the reason that never evergets developed well in the movie. Her relation with the baseballplayer, the relationship between the two sisters and their father, thestory of the Edward Burns' character and his son...everything is soheavily underdeveloped. It's the reason why the movie makes a totallyredundant- and also leaves an unsatisfying impression.And if this is a comedy than were is the humor? For a comedy this moviesurely has an awful few laughs in it. Basically in essence the TonyShalhoub character is the only one that shows comedy potential but hischaracter gets hardly used in the movie. There aren't really anycomical moments or situations in the movie, though the movie still hasa good pleasant and light overall atmosphere.The cast and acting in the movie is good, so the movie is obviously awaste of the talent involved. Angelina Jolie shows how a great actressshe is, even with platinum blond hair. Nevertheless it's a real shamethat her character and the Edward Burns have no chemistry at all. Cometo think of it, none of the characters in this movie really have anychemistry with each other. So it's a good cast, that was justwrongfully cast and put together in this movie.Not sure what the movie tries to achieve; if it wants to parodyanything, or if it wants to bring over a message about morals and life(probably the latter one). Anyway, fact is that the movie simply doesnot work out due to some bad storytelling and development and thecharacters that share absolutely no chemistry.Stephen Herek has never been known as a brilliant director but he hasalways made some decent movies, such as "101 Dalmatians", "The ThreeMusketeers" and "Mr. Holland's Opus". This movie is however an hugemiss from him.Really can't think of any reason why anyone should ever watch thismovie.4/10

A pretty good movie

Angelina Jolie's character, is your ugly duckling who grew into a swan and is pursuing her life goal of famous TV personality. It is the life she always dreamed of.However, things get complicated when she is in line for a plumb position and has to work with a former beau on the streets interviewing various people. Not only is she working with someone she has so much friction with, but she also gets an unforeseen prediction of her own death from a street sage, that gets her to wondering about the foundations of her life.Rather than doing the predictable turnaround many Hollywood directors do at such a junction, they instead wisely keep her character consistent in her behavior. She tries to write this prediction off until she realizes there may be just something to it. I won't fill you in further, but they did a masterful job well in-character showing you how this person deals with such a situation. Some situations are funny some very sad. Either way, this movie is a winner and well done. It is also very entertaining.

This is a great movie!

This is one of the best movie's I've seen in a while. The movie keeps yourattention, it is very interesting and intriguing. The storyline is great,it was very well acted. All of the actors did a wonderful job. When Ifirst saw previews for this movie, I had no intention of going and seeingit, but I did. When I walked into the movie theater, I truly didn't thinkIwould like it, but it is now one of my favorites! I would give this moviethe highest rating.

A bad movie, or something like it ...

A comedy that touts as being sensitive, warm, and funny, but fails todeliver on its promises for a number of reasons: Firstly, it is not funny. Secondly, Angelina Jolie is not pretty, and has a hard time convincing thisviewer that she an attractive-humorous news reporter. She delivers a goodperformance, but her own artifically enhanced features (married to the worstblonde die job in movie history) add an unintentional unfunny humor to thefilm. The kind of humor that comments more on the actress and director thanthe script.The film, while technically good, is a contradiction in styles. It's billedas a comedy, but in fact is a drama with a half dozen or so mildly humorousmoments sprinkled in here and there. The film is shot like a drama, actedlike a drama, written like a drama, and lit like a drama. Despite the factthat it's supposed to be somekind of comedy.The script needed much reworking and tightening up before being comitted tofilm stock, because as it is now the movie meanders almost aimlessly asJolie's character goes from one odd (and I'll add very unfunny andnon-humorous) moment to the next. As someone else commented the charactersare very cliche. Given the story material and the direction the film wasgiven by Steven Herek I'm personally surprised the film came out as good asit did, and that's no compliment.Do yourself a favor, and avoid this movie.

I enjoyed this romance comedy.

Angelina Jolie and Edward Burns starred in Life or Something Like It.Jolieplays a news reporter who found out she got a week to live, and Burns playsa cameraman who used to be in love with Jolie. Meets a man who told herfuture. She wants to change her future, but doesn't know if it would bedifferent. If you like light entertainment then this is your movie.

I Got Some Satisfaction! Because I Got Some! Because I Got Some!

A reporter, Lanie Kerrigan, interviews a psychic homeless man(Shalhoub) for a fluff piece about a football game's score. Instead, hetells her that her life has no meaning, and is going to end in just afew days.The moral of this story has been told ever single time from "It's aWonderful Life", to "Last Holiday", even to "Click". Each of thesemovies have always won me over because I love moral stories and Icertainly love this movie!Sure, you've seen this so many times before. Sure, it's filled withclichéd, Sure, it's predictable what's going to happen before ithappens. But it's a feel good movie. It puts a smile on your face whenit ends. Don't go on the movie too hard.I loved the performance by Angelina Jolie. The supporting charactersgive us some laughs along the way, although the film isn't too funnybut more like a drama. I like the score for the film. I liked the filma lot but not as much as I thought it would be. Still, it was a prettygood film if you like moral movies. "Live everyday like it will be yourlast."
