Re-formed by a coded message to their web site, a group of animal rights activists set off to free an imprisoned colleague from a terrifying ordeal. Their rescue mission leads them to a disused lab, but what should have been a simple raid turns into a series of twisted and mind bending incidents where the free and the caged switch places, in this tormented psychological horror.

We have taken some photos of "LD 50 Lethal Dose". They represent actual movie quality.
Seems to be alot of pointless, incoherrant movies about theses days. Alothough you are aware this group is in a compound of sorts...I am not sure why. There aren't any animals there. I might have missed the point somehwere before they went, but I really didn't care to rewind to go find out. The characters are not likeable, and you're glad to watch them get killed. And what is with the one girl's hair? At first, when they are heading towards a different lab filming in the back of a van with face camo paint on, i thought her hair was a mophead attached to the hat she had on as part of a disguise. A few frames later, I realized it was her hair in blonde dread locks. She dies about an hour into this mess after she throws up on her shoes, whick is shown, and then tossed face first into a door. Which is what you should do to yourself if you waste your money on this garbage. Throw yourself into a door, and slam it on your own head as punishment.
I enjoyed watching Lethal Dose. I pride myself on finding very unknownand unpopular movies, because to me it is exciting to see a lot ofmovies hardly anyone has ever heard of, for some reason. Lethal Dosewas another perfect candidate by those standards. I heard of this moviebecause of how I am a huge Spice Girls fanatic, and I looked each oneup to see other movies they were in besides their famed Spice World. Isaw this and decided I had to see it, for Melanie Brown was arguablythe most famous actress out of the five, if not the most talented aswell. On to the movie itself, I found it interesting enough. It was verydifferent from most horror flicks, and in ways very clever and somewhatprofessionally done. It was very boring at some points though, and theplot was nothing to praise, but they had very interesting characters, such as my two favorites Helen and Louise, because they were both veryenjoyable and fun to watch in the movie. There is good suspense aswell, and the movie does what it was set out to do. The rating isslightly unfair, because it was not that bad of a movie, even if it wasnothing special either. See it if you ever get the chance to.
Synopsis : A group of animal rights activists have a rescue mission gowrongand one team member gets trapped at the location. A year later the teamreceives an encoded message from the friend and they join together tobreakhim out of the facility he is trapped in. To their dismay, they locate anabandoned laboratory that seems to have a mind of its own, and the teamstarts disappearing one by one.Plot : The story was a very interesting concept but I feel it lostsomethingin the translation from paper to screen. The filmhad a decent budget but at times it didn't seem like the budget was usedtoit's full capacity. Definitely more of a science fiction feeling type ofmovie but it also had it's horror moments. It can be enjoyed by partiesthatenjoy either genre.Cast/Characters : Not a Blockbuster line-up but some familiar faces onthescreen with decent acting skills. Some of the scripting though made a fewonthe screen less talented than what they normally would be. All personalitytypes were covered with the team, almost too formulaic.....nothing tossedinto liven up the story.F/X : Nothing too cheesy, which is good. Just enough gore to keep ya goingand no moments when you are sitting there saying "I see the guy behind thecurtain". Of course, there could have been more gore to give it more of ahorror feeling but working with what they gave me made ita-okay.Pace : They spent a little too much time at the beginning of the moviesetting up each character and creating a story that really had nothing todowith the result of the film. I feel they should have just skipped to the2ndact and started the movie there, explained some things better that theyskipped and it would have been perfect.Jekyll's Final Thoughts : It was a good experience to see this film at theNevermore Film Festival, especially with it being a British made film ; nousual dribble with American casting, etc. If you have the chance to seethismovie, try and catch it. I give it a 3 star rating.
LETHAL DOSE is one of those scifi flicks that in its attempts to be esoteric and "original," it gives the audience no real clue as to what exactly is going on and therefore loses any impact it might have had. A group of seven young animal activists break into a laboratory to free all the animals. One of their men is trapped in a bear trap and they are forced to leave him behind in order for the organization to continue. A year later, we find that the young man caught has been sentenced to three years in prison. Via a confusing e-mail, the other six activists are reunited. One of the members visits the imprisoned Gary and finds out that he has volunteered to participate in some kind of experiment, obviously a very hush hush one. The friends decide to break into the isolated lab and rescue Gary, picking up a couple of new enlistees on the way, one of them a seemingly psychotic ex-marine. Once they infiltrate the research facility, however, they find themselves locked in and virtual prisoners of someone or something. They start dying one by one, and its up to the remaining group to find out just what the heck is going on.From thereon, the plot ricochets off the walls, never becoming coherent, and one is left to wonder just what the experiment's goal was, and what happened to Gary...really.While there are some atmospheric elements and a few jolts of suspense, the movie descends into such ridiculous territory, one scratches their head and says WHAT WAS THIS ALL ABOUT.Avoid unless you're into Rubix cubes.
Some raw powerful performances, and truly chilling moments in thishaunting Simon De Selva movie. The story takes that classichorror/science fiction set-up - a disparate and desperate bunch ofcharacters entering some hostile environment and being menaced by amysterious predator (From "Alien" to "Scooby Do"!) - and gives it asmartly original slant (the energy of the human soul being channelledinto some new form of WMD). De Selva's direction is slick, atmospheric;and brings us some great set-piece moments, and nightmarish images. TomHardy (as Matt) brilliantly charts his character's journey from zero tohero, and Leo Bill plays the self-serving Danny with great intensityand truth. Most of the movie is set in a perfectly designed, creepilyclaustrophobic tunnel system where experiments are conducted on human"lab rats". And it's all carried along by a heart-thumping soundtrack.
Dude this movie was HILARIOUS!!! its about this dude, and he couldn'tfind his car.Sorry wrong movie but same intellectual level. Like the teen comedy"Dude, Where's My Car", "LD 50 Lethal Dose" bravely seeks the lowestrung of its genre's (in this case sci-fi, sort of) intelligence ladder. The only positive outcome is the possibility that first-time writerMatthew McGuchan is now ashamed enough about his sad screenplay to seeka permanent career in the food service industry.Basically "LD 50 Lethal Dose" is what you would have if someone triedto remake 1970's "The Andromeda Strain" under a lot of budgetconstraints. Speaking of budgets, can anyone find the $8 Millionallocated to this movie? Very little of even that modest amount makesit to the screen. And speaking of mysteries, how did they manage tofind that kind of financing for this turkey?"LD 50 Lethal Dose" has the same production design concept as the two"Saw" movies and "The Hole"; find an abandoned industrial building, goinside, and roll camera. But even though this particular claustrophobicset has more potential than the others, the finished product is noteven remotely in their league. A few artsy interior shots can't salvagea premise this lame or a script this staggeringly bad.If you enjoy life on the bottom rung of the sci-fi ladder you would bebetter served by something that at least has some innate charm (insert"Godzilla" here). "LD 50 Lethal Dose" might have eventual parodypotential but I am not masochistic enough to watch it again forconfirmation. Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.
A group of animal rights activists' trespasses a lab to release animals, anda bear trap catches Gary (Ross McCall), one of the members. He is arrestedbut he does not denounce his friends. He goes to jail alone for a threeyears sentence and the team disassembles. One year later, they reunify andbecome aware that Gary was a volunteer of an experiment to reduce his periodin prison. Later, they received an encoded message from Gary asking forhelp. The place where he is lodged is an abandoned laboratory and theydecide to rescue him. Once in the location, weird events happen with eachmember of the group. This movie has a good premise, but something does notwork well. For example, why the guys decide to smoke grass during theirassignment? How and why exist live animals in a desert place? Thisforgettable film can be recommended for killing time only. My vote isfive.Title (Brazil): `A Ameaça' (`The Menace')
This isn't Scary Spice's (Melanie Brown) first movie. That would beSpice World, not that I would ever admit seeing that. It is her firstmovie since then, and she was an interesting character that met anunusual end.The Brits are famous for horror. Remember Hammer? Now, it seems theyare famous for movies about radicals releasing animals. We do thathere, but I don't know that we make movies about it. I don't think thatmany people really care over here, so we leave it to Peta. The thing is that the group left one of their members behind on a raidand he got three years. He sends them an e-mail about a secret lab thatthey should check out. That is when the fun begins; as this lab isunderground and some really strange stuff is going on there. Now, I won't spoil it by saying what is going on, except to say that itwas an interesting concept. The problem is that I really didn't careabout the people in this film, and whether they lived or died. MaybeKatharine Towne (But I'm a Cheerleader), but even that is stretchingit.Don't just scare me, but make me care.
This movie is pretty bad because the story has the potential to beinteresting, but just drags on and on with boring scenarios and script.Since you can't really knock a low-budget film for bad acting, I willjust briefly mention that there are no "strong performances" as I'venoted other people mentioning in their reviews. It's mediocre at beston that aspect. The plot was alright but didn't make any sense. Did the antagonist knowthat was going to happen to him when he was perfectly fine and talkingwith his friend in prison? He invited him out there before he evenbecame what he became. That's just one of the questions you have aboutthe plot once it's all said and done. After you start trying to determine why certain things happen youshould feel cheapened that the writer would try to insult you with thelack of planning and/or actually trying to work the plot out beforefilming. It serious seems like they just made it up as they went alongand things barely add up.Just go ahead and skip this one. There are much better films to spendan hour and a half watching.
"Lethal Dose 50" is a stylish British production that deserves a view. It's a for sure a great and pleasure full time killer. The cast isn'tthat well known, although maybe the spice girl " Melania Brown" couldbe a recognizable face. The director of this horror SF flick, "Simon DeSelva" sets a pretty impressive movie onto your screen as first timedirector! The tension is superb and of a perfect level. The directorknew how to put in the suspense moments at just the right and perfecttime. Acting is of a decent quality though can't be called amazing butactually I think that was for sure not needed into this flick. Everyoneplayed their part to best of their ability and in which they succeededfor sure. Sometimes I did spot some "28 Days Later" links into the filmbut it never annoyed me in anyway. It didn't interfere into this flickin a negative way. The music is good and adds by times that certainneeded drive to get some scenes, even the whole movie into a certaingear so it starts rolling onto your screen and creates that greatfeeling of being locked onto your screen. Which also gives that extrapower onto these "jump chair" scenes. Where into this movie one is tobe found for sure! Not as great as "28 Days Later" but for sure much better as"Dogsoldiers"! A' kinda must see if you're in for a foreign filled filmevening.Dario/ 7.5 outa 10.
Rubish don't buy it or rent it, my advice is that simple. However Icant leave it at that, although i don't feel quite qualified to commenton this film as some of the people on IMDb (mainly because i wastalking to people while watching it) I must express my opinion on howdire it was. The acting was terrible and the character development, well it just wasn't there. Never mind though according to the back ofthe box its a physcological thriller, hopefully it will make us think abit and debate what is going to happen etc ha no chance of that, thisreally is mindless rubbish and if you are watching it or going to Isuggest you do the same as me, get a bottle of vodka a few beers, stealyour m8's pizza, with that advice you might make just make it withouttaking your own eyes.. Well one can try, cant they ?
I found this a really interesting and challenging film, not like yourusual run-of-the-mill horror movie. I'm not going to give anything awaybecause I think it is worth seeing, but there were some very cleverplot twists that took me completely by surprise! The acting was good, Ithought that all the actors really pulled together as a team and thatreally shows (also the mark of a good director!). I also think thedirection itself was really tight and perfect for the creepy, slightlyclaustrophobic nature of the scenes underground. The supernaturalelements were fascinating as well, a very modern take on a populargenre. All in all a really good evening's viewing, and well worthseeing! I would say don't miss it!
This movie was okay. Just okay. The plot was strange. Well, everything was. A waste of five bucks, but it's a great collectible if you like the Spice Girls. Watch if you like Mel B or you like really boring movies.
In short: lame first 30 minutes, super duper middle 30 minutes, super duperlame final 30 minutes. That's it, in a nutshell.Mel b can't act, and so can't the female lead. The male lead was Shinzon inStar Trek Nemesis, incidentally. He looks weird here, probably because thefilm had zero character development. And the girl using yoga to beat the badguy at the end was funny. Funny in a "ha ha, that blows" sort of way, mindyou. The film currently has a 7-something rating. This is due to a low votingcount. When more people see the flick, I suspect the rating will go down.Around 5-point would be my guess. Myself, I am giving it 6/10, just for thespooky middle. The rest isn't worth spit.My grade 6/10, just cause I dig horror flicks, even if they're mostlylame.
Where to begin with this debacle? The cast were poor, not a singlemediocre performance if you combined all their talents.Melanie Brown (of former spice girls fame) does her best to be annoyingnortherner. Her thick gormless accent ripping through any notion ofscript or character. Why couldn't someone have paid her to sing herlines? Trust me it would have been better than listening to her speak. The main plot is strictly B movie fare, and there is no real idea ofwhat this movie is. Is it a horror? (if so shouldn't it be scary?) isit a thriller? (then shouldn't it be exciting or have some surprise?)Is it sci-fi? (then shouldn't there be more mention of this concept -instead of slapping it on at the end) The writer Mr De Selva should beashamed of profiting from such a bland, pointless story. But alas thereis no more shame in collecting a paycheck for which one does notdeserve.
The premise of this movie is seemingly solid, and it begins like "28Days Later" Animal Rights Activists break in to a lab and free the cuteand fuzzy bunnies. One of them gets captured, and then it turns intosome kind of "Altered States" heist movie. Seems our Activists are now set on freeing their captured comrade fromthe lab where he has become the focus of a new experiment that isgradually stripping away his humanity in a "Lawnmower Man" kind of way.Sounds cool, right? That's what I thought. The problem is that once theheist portion of the movie starts, it goes nowhere fast. There's a lotof pointless screaming as members of the crew start turning on eachother. It's another entry into the current string of U.K. fundedprogramming that features people turning on each other. For more of thesame, watch "The Bunker". The Bad Guy doesn't make an appearance untilthe last ten minutes of the movie, and it's a pretty dull ride up tothat point.
Maybe it's the non-stop landslide of American horror-by-numbers andslick Hollywood remakes making me feel a little ill, but LD50's slickBrit-horror action struck a real chord with me. The movie islow-budget, but great care and attention has been taken to make sureevery part of the movie is as good as it can be. The movie instantlyimpresses, with properly lit night photography, beautiful lighting anda well thought out script full of believable characters. In terms of plot, LD50 is a halfway house between I Know What You DidLast Summer and 28 Days Later. A group of animal-rights activists iscalled to an abandoned military base by an ex-member of their team whowent missing after capture. Upon arrival, they realise that somethingis amiss, and before long strange events occur, putting them in gravedanger. It's an interesting plot, and while far from totally original,it was refreshing to see a movie that isn't a slasher or a ghost moviefor once.As with any straight-to-video film, I have a few misgivings. Whileex-Spice Girl Melanie Brown is actually very convincing in the movie, afew of the other actors aren't, namely the token Americans in the film, who kind of jar with the otherwise all Brit cast. Katharine Towneeventually won me over but was quite annoying and asinine in the firsthalf of the movie, and the less said about Mel B's boyfriend thebetter. Despite this, I've gotta give Peter Lord his props for theunnerving Spook. Loved that dude.Basically, LD50's a solid, fun and fresh-feeling horror. It reallyought to have been released properly, as it can certainly punch it'sweight with a lot of the horror 'in-crowd'. Well worth watching.
This movie wasn't horrible, but it was not very good either. I gotabout what I expected when I rented it... a low budget sci-fi/horrormovie that was at least somewhat entertaining.Plot: C+, It starts out with a pretty generic, boring plot, but itgrows into something more intriguing. I think the way they suddenlyjust dump the concept on you detracts from its greatness though.Acting: C-, Acting was sufficient, but not great. They are about parwith what you'd expect in a mediocre horror film. No one of the actorsreally stood out amongst the others as being exceptionally good, butone or two stood out as being exceptionally crappy.Special Effects: C, Not that great, but again, it was sufficient.Character development: D+, you don't really get attached to thesecharacters. Part of it may have been the mediocre acting. Thecharacters that stand out the most are the ones that follow the usualcliché character types. You have the tough guy, the smart computernerd, the annoying goof-off joker, and more. The characters that didn'tfollow one of these cliché types really just blend into the background.Best aspect of the movie: The actual concept they present to you laterin the movie (I won't reveal) is interesting.Worst aspect of the movie: Lack of character attachment. It's no secretpeople die in this movie, and when they do you'll find yourself notcaring that much in most cases.
"LD 50: Lethal Dose" isn't that bad of an animal rights horror film.**SPOILERS**Several members of an animal rights activist group, Gary, (Ross McCall)Danny, (Leo Bill) Matt, (Tom Hardy) Helen, (Katherine Towne) and Justin(Toby Fischer) raid a chemical lab where animals are being held andrelease the animals, but when Gary is captured by their securitysystem, the others scatter. One year later, Gary is in prison and therest of the gang is getting worried that the new experiment Gary signedup for is bad news. When they bring their friends Louise (MelanieBrown) and Vaughn (Philip Winchester) in to help out, Helen joins inonly to help get rid of the nightmares she's having about Gary. Lastminute addition Spook (Stephan Lord) also arrives, and he, Vaughn,Louise, Helen, Danny, Matt and Justin head over to the lab where theybelieve Gary was taken for the experiments. Exploring the huge complex, they can tell that something isn't right in the facility, and it startsto freak them out. After some exploring, things really start to getfreaky, and now the slowly dwindling group has to get out of theresearch facility alive. The Good News: Perhaps the best part of the film is the design of thefacility the characters become trapped in. It's large in design, butthe cramped rooms and long, barren hallways set up the mood perfectly. This film has tons of atmosphere, with the drab, gray walls and milesof cables running alone that really help out as well. Combine this withsome choice lighting and you get a movie loaded with suspense and tonsof interesting set pieces. It was also nice to see so much bloodlettingin this film, as well. We get lots of the red stuff, in the form ofchopped off arms, a very bloody knife stabbing, a couple of nosebleeds, and some head melts onto cement and then peeled away with skinspreading back too. There's more gore in the film, pleasing any realgore fan. Don't be too surprised at the mention of the nosebleeds inthe earlier part of the film, they are far bloodier than you can think. One last thing about the gore: don't expect Fulci/Romero style gore inhere. Think instead of supernatural artery blood flow. Nothing justtrickles out, this stuff gushes out in spades. The special effects inthe film are also first rate. To see people being hurled into wallspropelled by flashing electrical bolts, or the fate of the whole crewat the end, this is full of great special effects. Even better still, the film sets up the last half of it as a series of chilling set-piecesand non-stop shocks, all because the middle half is so brilliantly puttogether. The suspense is incredibly unnerving, and following the groupas they explore the facility, unsure of what they're going to find. This is a great attribute for a film. The Bad News: Those going in expecting a killer creature film, like Idid, will be disappointed by what I have to say next, so if you areplanning on watching the film, don't read the next few sentences. Thereis absolutely no killer animals in the film. The only damage an animaldoes in the film is a small scratch that hardly anyone would feel if ithappened to them. This is far more supernatural flick than anything, soit can be a little bit of a downer when it sets up attacks that don'tcome. The film also has the most annoying characters of recent times. The animals rights thing I'm okay with, but that really doesn't excusethe kinds of characters in this film. They are so retarded that Ifinally decided to make a comment on it. Being a person who's verytolerant of bad acting, this is bordering on the ridiculous. It's moreof how stupid they react in their situation than anything. You have tosee it to believe it.The Final Verdict: Bad acting and a real shocker of a plot line may beoffset by some great suspense scenes and tons of gore. It may beequaled out, but that is all in the eye of the beholder. Give it a shotif you like this kind of film, you may be surprised. Just be carefulthat it's very hit or miss.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, animals in danger, andscenes of drug use
"LD 50 Lethal Dose" was a nice surprise, and actually a lot better thanthe trailer suggests (which, thankfully, I saw after the movie, on the"special features" menu). Scary Spice was actually prettyunrecognisable in the movie. At least, to me she was. Never really kepttrack of the Spice Girls, anyway. All the acting was pretty okay, even. All I can say is, if you like recent British horror, like "DogSoldiers" (2002), "The Descent" (2005), "The Hole" (2001) and "LongTime Dead" (2002), then you'll most likely enjoy "LD 50 Lethal Dose"also. Its not on par with the first two I mentioned, but it can competewith the last two. It did take me a bit to get into it. It knows a verystandard set-up (first half hour), but in the end the movie is saved bya pretty original concept (even though "LD 50" deceivingly starts asone of those 'a group of people on an isolated location are about to bekilled of by some killer-something' type of movie), good cinematography(look & feel) and set design, very decent special effects and blood &gore make-up effects (well-timed, rather than a non-stop display), okayover-all acting, and a satisfying finale/conclusion. Just keep one eyeclosed for some implausibilities in the script and don't try to thinktoo much during the movie, and you'll be okay. First time directorSimon De Selva left a good impression on me with "LD 50".
