Reality With a Smart Edge, Sexy, Funny and Horrifying

I saw a private viewing of Killer Movie and was blown away with JeffFisher's brilliant, imaginative twist in taking Reality Shows (and hisdepth of experience in directing them) into a whole other realm. Forinsiders there's hysterical insights and scenes. For general viewers, aunique look through the camera when great looking Hollywood comes faceto face with right-wing, God fairing Middle-America. What does a smart, young director do with a plethora of knowledge, years of grueling shootschedules, and a myriad of Divas and high maintenance talent? Parlay itinto the real horror of it all....a tight, smart movie that gives theaudience a roller coast ride of emotion and insight into how it alllooks from the inside and when you expand and explore the content, whata horror it can develop into. Sex, abundance, attitude and vervecollide with the moral majority to provide a violent elixir. Wellwritten and tight this film will keep you thrilled. Great cast, greatplot.

Funny.. worth a watch

This movie is strangely filmed with comments from the actors every fiveminutes after something slightly interesting happens. It's a funny filmwith a few exciting scenes, kind of predictable but worth watching onceif you have a few hours to kill! The acting is laughable at times withmany parts reminding you of a school theater production, but this addsto the laughter and makes it more interesting. Kaley Cuoco doesn'tbring much to the role apart from her great looks, she should reallystick to TV and rolling out one-liners. Tries to be gory but doesn'tmake you want to hide behind a pillow! Swear words are thrown in a lotwhich make things slightly more entertaining but in the long run remindyou more of watching a porno! Overall this movie was as expected, probably funnier if watched in a Cafe in Amsterdam, if you get mydrift..

I love Kaley Cuoco

I have been watching a lot of terrible horror movies lately, so I was hoping for something better here. The movie is ok. The budget appears to be larger than the movies I have been renting. I love Kaley Cuoco from the Big Bang Theory TV show and she doesn't disappoint here. The setting of North Dakota and the cast were all good. You won't be disappointed, but it isn't anything special.

Potential That Falls Short

"Killer Movie" with its some what unoriginal plot and decent caststarts out with the potential to be something spectacular andmemorable, but sadly falls very short. You may enjoy this movie if yourlooking for a movie that your watching alone that will give you aslight scare, but I wouldn't advise this to a large group of adults orteens that are looking for a strong horror film. This movie lacks thegore or violence in my mind to be considered a true horror because manyof the murders occur off camera and you are only left to see the aftermath and personally this takes away from the whole idea of a scare.Ifyou decide to give this movie a chance you could actually end upenjoying it if you like a mild scare or you like the chemistry the castbrings. I give this movie a four out of ten rating mostly on thepotential the movie creates and the cast, but the film itself isnothing to brag about.

the champion of the Blanca Champion fan club . . .

Some stylistic editing, helps distinguish Killer Movie (2008) from most other slasher flicks. Director/writer Jeff Fisher's film is pretty slick looking affair, that features a number of inserted interview type clips to give the film a reality TV look, and also helps advance the story. The presence of sitcom veteran Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory, 8 Simple Rules), adds some spice, and gives the film some balls, as her character, a foul mouthed diva type, is a switch from the 'good girl' roles she is more well known for. A television crew arrives in White Plains, North Dakota, to shoot a piece about The Goldiggers, the local high school hockey team. It seems pretty routine, but what producer Lee Tyson (Cyia Batten) instructs director Jake Tanner (Paul Wesley) to try to do, is also dig up some dirt about the death of a local teenage girl, who was mysteriously beheaded while riding on a scooter. Awaiting the arrival of starlet Blanca Champion (Cuoco), the crew starts shooting interviews at the school. A masked killer also begins to get very busy, arranging an accident for the cheerleading coach, offing the hockey coach, and then taking a pick to a production assistant. A few murders don't seem to stir things up very much, and even as the bodies continue to pile up, the townsfolk and even law enforcement, remain completely unconcerned. The killer is an enormous Blanca Champion fan, and is bent on proving it to her. Although increasingly shorthanded, the crew pushes on, until there is a final confrontation at the school. There are some nice gory bits, including a near decapitated head flopping, a body strung up on the wall of the gym, and a hanging via chain scene. Almost everyone in the crew falls victim to the very active killer. Much that happens, does not make a lot of sense, as the killer seems to be everywhere, pushing up the body count. Kaley Cuoco seems to be having a blast playing a vamp, and swearing up a storm. She is the best thing about this movie, and makes a seamless transition from being frightened, to a clear thinking and rational. Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries) tries to take his role seriously, but it isn't easy, as his character Jake is pretty passive most of the film, until the end, when he makes an impossible recovery from a serious injury, that should have left him incapable of walking. Adriana DeMeo (Without a Trace), is funny and quirky, as a member of the crew, and Maitland McConnell (Ninja Cheerleaders) is amusing as an overemotional cheerleader. The acting is a mixed bag, and no one will be willing any awards, but at least the cast features some attractive actors, and snappy aggressive dialog. Attempting to live up to its name, Killer Movie does feature a lot of kills, and the level of violence ramps up with each successive kill, peaking in the final twenty minutes. Not all the kills are graphic or that impressive though. Suspense and tension could be built up if there were more pursuit, or interaction between the killer and his victims, instead of quick strike kills. The killer may be a surprise, although the reason for the murderous spree is rather tenuous. Killer Movie does not offer much that is really original, but if you have a fondness for slashers, and like a lot of victims, you may want to take a look. The film is definitely recommended to Kaley Cuoco fans, as she is having fun with her role. She does not appear until after the 31 minute mark, but that is when things really get started. The feature is subtitled in Spanish only, contains the trailer, a photo gallery, a short behind the scenes featurette, and a digital copy of the movie in Windows and Mac formats.

killer movie: not your typical slasher

"Killer Movie" succeeds because of three elements that are sorelymissing for the majority of horror films these days: thrills, titillation, and wit. This is a diamond in the rough.A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, the slasher genre was areliable source of entertainment. Sadly it has devolved into a breedingground for the most shallow, talentless people in the film industry. Itseems there is no room to make a movie that's actually, well, GOOD,just profitable. Every "creative" decision is borne from the desire tomake money. And of course, throngs of people flock to the theaters andeat it up.Against such a grim backdrop, it is a cause for celebration when amovie like "Killer Movie" comes out. Here's a slasher film that adheresto all of the conventions of the genre without pandering to the lowestcommon denominator. Horror fans will love this, and I predict it willdo extremely well commercially. The story is of personal relevance to its director (a former reality TVdirector), and the results are funny and scary, often at the same time.Fisher had previously worked on shows like The Simple Life and RealWorld, and it's easy to see how the experience affected him. I guessthe best way to segue from reality TV into the film industry is to makea film about a reality TV show crew being MURDERED."Killer Movie" is an impressive debut, and I look forward to whateverFisher does next.

a perfect slasher movie.

A slasher gem for the new generation. A very good direct to dvd movie. I would kind of compare it to the scream movies just a little for its comedy moments but just your typical slasher movie, a good plot, good acting, and good kills. I would recommend it to slasher fans.

Average killer movie

It looks like other reviewers here are probably involved with the film. I am not; I just watched it. This movie is the average slasher fare with a reality show spin on it. Even though the storyline is not so original, I still found the movie likeable all the way to the end. It has the cheesiness but doesn't look cheap, some humor, decent kill scenes, and good music scores. Slasher movie fans would particularly find this film entertaining.

not bad!

This review is from: Killer Movie (DVD) i purely brought this movie because of Paul Wesley, but it actually was a good movie, it was a bit stupid at times but what comedy/horror film isn't. a must see.

Making a Horror Flick Can Be a Killer!

I just bought this movie and i have to say wow! This movie thrilled meright down to the bone. Imagine filming a horror movie in a smallcreepy town and the crew begins to mysteriously disappear and bodiesbegin popping up. How do you know if it is all a joke, you don't, untilit's too late. In this horror flick, the cast and crew of a horrordocumentary begin to be picked off one by one, by a masked stalker. This movie had little sex, but had its share of gruesome killings. Icompare this movie with 2009's My Bloody Valentine and Urban Legends2:Final Cut. The cast on the other hand, made this movie enjoyable. Itstars Kaley Cuoco(The Big Bang Theory and Charmed), GloriaVotsis(2009's upcoming remake of Terror Train), Torrey Devitto(I'llalways Know What You Did Last Summer and One Tree Hill) and LeightonMeester(Gossip Girl and Drive Thru). Other stars that madeimpressionable performances are Paul Wesley, Adriana Demeo, JasonLondon and Al Santos. I strongly urge anyone who comes across thismovie either in a store or online, to buy. You definitely wont bedisappointed!!

Surprisingly good thriller with cast of new faces

This review is from: Killer Movie (DVD) I saw this movie and did not recognize many of the cast members, but I thought I would try it since it was a thriller. I was happily surprised to find how good it was. While some parts of the movie reveal that it was not made on as high dollar of a budget, the cast works well together, makes the movie interesting and brings the right touch of scare. The story line is one that is similar to many of the other thriller movies, but it has an interesting edge to it through the reality TV angle. As the movie ramps up into the scary parts with the killer, the movie still maintains its story line and develops its characters amongst the insanity which is quite impressive since many of the mainstream thrillers are incapable of doing this on there high dollar budgets. The other thing I liked about this movie is that from scene one, you know that you're watching a thriller and you get a piece of the action which doesn't stop until the resolution of the film. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys thriller movies or just wants a good scare.

Killer Movie

This review is from: Killer Movie (DVD) Killer Movie Typical horror/slasher movie. Fast paced and full of blood and gore. Paul Wesley made it all worth watching though.Story line was a bit predictable but still a couple of twists in the end. Enjoyable.Interviews with the cast (especially Paul Wesley), were the highlight.

An great film about deadly chaos on a reality show set

I can't wait to see this movie out in theaters..I absolutely loved it.Definitely, definitely worth the watch. It has a great script andexcellent filming... I'd never heard of Jeff Fisher before but when Ifound out he worked on shows like The Simple Life and The RW/RRChallenge I was blown away. I guess it makes sense that the movie isabout a reality show, but it works..it really really works. I can'twait to see more from him in the mainstream. His work really worthtaking notice of. The movie provided with laughs without the mindlesshumor "comedies" ALL contain nowadays, and chills without overdoing itlike most horror movies usually do. The concept is so creative, and Ithink they satirize the reality show business perfectly. I've said itabout 3 times already, but I mean it..I really loved this movie and I'mhoping you all will take the chance and check it out.

An enjoyable, 90 minute cliché.

Killer Movie tells the story about a young director and his film crew, who find themselves picked off one-by-one by a masked killer, whilstfilming a project in a small American town. Whilst Killer movie doesuse cliché after cliché and is unoriginal in almost every aspect, it'san enjoyable 90 minute cliché, which is definitely worth checking outif you are a fan of slashers. The acting from the cast is solid, with Cyia Batten giving the bestperformance as the incredibly bitchy Lee. I was very disappointed withthe lack of screen time one of the major talents in the film, LeightonMeester (Gossip Girl) though, as she appears for a few minutes and hasvery little to work with apart from being a stereotypical bimbo. Thecharacter development is somewhat good and each character (for themost-part) gets a decent amount of screen time. However, it doesn'thelp that when it comes to these characters being chased/attacked bythe killer, they make many stupid decisions and deserve to die due totheir own stupidity. Onto the death scenes, they are enjoyable and have some blood/gore, buton other times they are a wasted opportunity as we cut away from all ofthe action. They were good enough though, and I liked the chase scenesnear the end. Killer Movie, as you probably know, is a comedy also anddoes use some amusing lines and does have some amusing moments. Thecomedy worked well in this movie. Kaley Cuoco plays a "Hilton/Richie"type character, and has some funny moments in this. I'll also quicklymention the production values, as this looks very well-made for DTV andthe movie is written and directed well enough. The problems with Killer Movie is the unoriginality and the fact thatmany clichés are used throughout - it makes you wonder whether it wasdeliberate or just completely lazy and uninspired. We have stupidcharacters doing many stupid things, the freak who lives by himself(and is used as a red herring), cell-phone service going down, characters wandering off and many more. Nothing about Killer Movie eventries to be original. I also thought the killer's identity waspredictable, as with the ending. But hey, for the most part, KillerMovie uses the conventions well...unlike some of these hideouslow-budget movies you can find.Overall, I enjoyed Killer Movie for what it was - a 90 minute,full-of-clichés slasher flick with some laughs, some blood, some chasescenes and good writing/direction and production values. If you canappreciate this movie for what it is and are a fan of slashers, you'llprobably enjoy it. I do, however, think these rigged reviews on IMDbare pretty stupid. Killer Movie a 10/10 flick? You've gotta be kidding.6/10

Reality TV Slasher

The plot = A TV crew set out to make a documentary about a small townhockey team in a small town, but almost as soon as they arrive, peoplestart getting killed but are written off as accidents and then thecamera crew start to get picked off one by one."Killer Movie" has an interesting concept and competently made andcould have easily been great if it didn't fall apart too many times. Itis watchable but yet it is quite poorly executed, like the death sceneslack any imagination at all and are mostly off screen and generallycomes off as an easy-going piece of work that's simply unable to engagethe viewer on any real level virtually from start to finish. But thegood aspects that I liked are the characters that ultimately save thismovie in my opinion like Blanca played by Kaley Cuoco, okay herperformance wasn't perfect but she was the best thing about this movie, and the fact that I'm a big fan of Kaley I loved her in The Big BangTheory, In this she plays a bitchy Paris Hilton type and unlikely finalgirl. Paul Wesley the male lead I found him likable and engaging andone of the more interesting characters in this movie and Al Santos whoplays the camera man was also fun and likable. All in all Killer Movie is fun with some witty dialogue with someinteresting stalking scenes, but as a whole this movie is quiteforgettable.

Killer Movie

Realty television crew are assigned to cover a small town high schoolhockey team running into a serial killer wearing a black mask andhoody. Lots of interviews where the members of the crew(and some of thelocals who live in the town of White Plains where most of this film isset)talk into the camera about each other, those they encounter in thetown of White Plains, their current situations, and the showbiz side oftheir lives. The screenplay is often acidic, cynical, and caustic andKiller Movie essentially pokes fun at realty television shows, featuring a cast of characters one might find on The Real World. Ifthis plot is attractive to you, knock yourself out. I found thecharacters tiresome and the satire is old hat. Out of the cast, PaulWesley, the director needing a big break, encountering more than hecould possibly bargain for, Jake Tanner, is a nice guy, coming off verylikable and tolerant of the crap he must contend with, considering theprima donnas and immature people in his entourage who often causenothing but migraines. Particularly irksome is his producer Lee(CyiaBatten), a tyrant constantly barking orders to everyone, her poisonousattitude creating much tension..she's the type of producer who wishesto capitalize on a small town eruption regarding the killer, using thehockey team cover story as a front to exploit the tragedy occurring inWhite Plains. Those familiar with Kaley Cuoco know that by now she hasperfected the pampered princess, got it down pat because it's the onlyrole we ever see her in most of the time. As Blanca, she's polarizingthe way she demands attention, milking what little celeb status she hasto the hilt, manufacturing much friction as she becomes a source offrustration, and has quite the potty mouth(Cuoco may've taken the partjust so she could escape her usual television sitcom roles, allowed tospout profanity without restriction) Cuoco, along with the entire cast, services Killer Movie as eye candy, but it's hard to find any characteryou wouldn't want to see hacked to pieces with a meat cleaver. JasonLondon is the sound/equipment guy, a real creep with a sour attitude, often tormenting the others with his foul comments that are uncalledfor. We witness lots of personality clashes, watching how theseself-absorbed Hollywood types in the cast snipe at each other. Thekiller's identity shouldn't surprise anyone, it's quite blatantlyobvious. Some minor gore, but most of the violence is shot off-screen.Despite some tame lesbianism, not even this is satisfying. LeightonMeester pops up in the film as a cute victim. Director/writer JeffFisher assembles quite an attractive cast, but I wouldn't be able todistinguish this from the innumerable slashers that have stocked thehorror shelves over the last ten or so years since SCREAM. While I'venever liked any of Cuoco's characters, I never tire of looking at her,but eventually she needs to come up with a role that doesn't consist ofher preening, with smug arrogance, always whining and complaining.
