Danny (Adam Sandler) must engage Katherine (Jennifer Aniston), his faithful assistant, to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife. Danny must pretend that he is married, because he lied to his dream girl, Palmer (Brooklyn Decker) the most gorgeous woman in the world. To keep the woman he loves, covering up one lie soon turns into many lies.
Any potential is negated by bad casting choices -- [including] screen irritant Nick Swardson, a useless Dave Matthews and a slumming Nicole Kidman -- and the typical Sandler-Dugan concessions to fratboy humor.
This is possibly one of the WORST time ever movies I have ever seen, itis totally not original, and not in any way shape or form good to anysense of that word.I remember sitting in the theater watching this thing, and thinking"How did this ever make it to the Box Office" Apparently Adam Sandleris starring in a new movie called "Jack and Jill" don't expect me to bethere for 1 minute! I remember how cruddy the last one was, and all the stupid poddy humoris for adults that have not grown up! Those of us who have a collegeeducation or in college know that this is immature and also totallyunoriginal. I Mean how original is it that someone chooses to go toHawaii to spice up their life and date a hot girl? That is totallyun-original. There were several other stupid scenes I won't mentionbecause i don't remember half of them. Instead of "Just going with it"I should have NOT gone with it and ran right out of the movie theaterfast as possible!
Initially when i was watching this movie, had great hopes on it. Andslowly in my mind i started predicting what happens next. with littleinsight in my head i realized ... hey the movie is copied from somedumb Bollywood movie. now can u beat that. i thought Bollywood issuppose to have this kind of business line. and the worst thing is theydidn't change anything. really a disappointment on that part with thelost of originality. the flow of the movie is good and ya it is funnyat times. but i couldn't help my self but rate this movie 1 because ofthe fact that the story line is not original. save your money and time ..
...I found it surprisingly funny. It's also a typical Sandler/Dugan collaboration. Not for one minute do you buy the premise or the lengths the characters go to to keep up the subterfuge, but the audience I saw this movie with laughed. And in a comedy, that's always a great thing. So, if you're willing to suspend disbelief and put aside that you've figured out the movie's ending at minute 5, then settle in for some laughs. There's also a pair of surprises in the casting at the half way mark.I should add that a friend did not like this movie and found Aniston's character's two kids to be annoying (and everything is cartoonishly big)and did NOT recommend the movie. I did not see Catus Flower so I can't make a comparison, so those that have may have differing opinions.
My God is Brooklyn Decker hot. Although I didn't particularly care for this movie, I'd watch it again just to look at her. Unfortunately, her acting skills aren't quite refined enough for a Major Motion Picture. She's one of the most beautiful women on the planet right now, but I just didn't buy her in this role. I think if they re-casted, this could have been a 3-star movie instead of a 2-star movie. This movie wasn't vintage Sandler. It had a few funny parts, but didn't blow me away. Jennifer Aniston played her usual "Rachel from Friends" character. You kind of know what to expect from her after all of these years. Does Aniston ever age, btw? She looks just as good now in her 40's as she did when she was 30. Anyway, back to the movie. Wasn't the best. Nick Swardson, who I usually like very much, was annoying throughout this movie. And the plot... the plot was so ridiculously unbelievable and far fetched, that you couldn't even follow it after awhile.A swing and a miss for Sandler in this one. Sorry, Adam, I still love ya anyway.
Adam Sandler in another movie, playing exactly the same character as in his other movies. Most of the acting seems like improv, resulting in the lines delivered not being funny or witty. You have to wade through 3/4 of a boring movie to arrive at an agreeable ending. Some scenes did provide good laughs, but most of the movie is just the main actors/actresses having fun with the job, not worrying about making a good movie or not.
Astonishingly bad...a would-be comedy that's not just cruelly unfunny but sloppily made.
It is time for Adam to admit that it is over as this movie was really bad !!!! A serious waste of big names in a poorly written and acted movie.
When I was a kid I used to love the humor of the "Adam Sandler" movies, but as I got older, I can't really get myself laugh at his humoranymore. Not "Jeniffer Aniston" either, the girl I haven't liked sincethe TV-series: "Friends".But I'll forget my personal feelings towards the actors long enough forme to write this "review"..."Just Go with It" is a comedy like... well... Like most comedies. Eventhough the story is something I personally haven't seen before (Iusually LOVE new things), I can't really say it was something I wouldwatch again, or even recommend to anyone. When it comes to actors and actresses, I will admit the leading rolesare played by very good actors, yet still everything seems so false, much of the conversations seems to be written (as they obviously are,but that is not something the viewers are supposed to understand). When it comes to the story, it is quite see-through, most of these kindof movies are, but that doesn't forgive this one for being it, is itreally too much to ask for a little twist, or something that isn't inlike 40% of every movie out there? I guess not, so lets move on! Is there really much more to say? A little note is: The jokes and humorseems pushed in and are not really funny, I personally didn't laugh asingle time.I am giving this movie a 3/10. The reason I give it this is because themovie didn't really speak to me, yet still it wasn't as boring as itcould be, the actors are great and the story is okay enough, but it'stoo see-through for me and it's not really any funny, which a comedyshould be.
Just run from it!
You don't go into an Adam S. movie expecting an Oscar ok. So don't compare it to that. I am not his biggest fan, however with that said, I really, really liked this movie. It was funny, cute, and had great chemistry. I loved the chemistry between Jennifer and Adam. (Unlike some of his other movies). And the kids were hilarious too. This is a great date movie. It is not as raunchy or crude as some of his other movies either, which is another plus. I loved the storyline, the jokes, and the overall feel of the movie. Great job guys!
Striko Two for Aniston: After the atrocious THE BOUNTY HUNTER, comes this mess... This movie is, basically, obnoxious. totally unplausible. Just another "great" concept fo uniting two star, then writing the script. Well, at least we saw Jennifer in a bathing suit. Why on Earth (other than the big dollars, of course) does she accepts only these kind of roles? She proved she can act in THE GOOD GIRL, she already proved she can do good comedy. Why be stuck in horrible comedies?
If you like convoluted, romantic comedies- then you'll probably like this one. I personally don't like it when movies stop being logically consistent which this one does quite a bit in the beginning. I almost stopped watching in the first 20-30 min because it was so awkward, and almost painful to watch. However, in the end it was well worth watching. I guess $80 million doesn't go too far anymore (IMDB estimate). I was thinking how they wrote this, and found that it's an update to a 60s movie which is an update to a previous play. The 60s movie is called "Cactus Flower", and Goldie Hawn won an Oscar that year for her role. If you like "Just Go With It", I recommend that you check that one out too. For me, "Cactus Flower" has way too much 60s cornball slapstick/nonsense in it- but it definitely had some brilliant moments too. One other good thing about "Cactus Flower" is lots of little bits of period knowledge, such as how they were taking dental x-rays.
Katherine (Aniston) is plastic surgeon Danny's longtime assistant, whoagrees to help Danny to deceive Palmer, and of course it getscomplicated. When the web of lies expands to include Katherine'schildren, her daughter Maggie (Madison), who wants to be an actress, sees it all as a fun exercise in improv. This adds another, entertaining level to the premise: what if the Whose Line Is It Anywaycomedians had to fool an audience member into thinking the sketch wasreal? Members of Just Go With It's makeshift acting troop slip up ormake ill-considered choices, and the others are forced to accept thechallenge and "just go with it" in order to keep their increasinglyintricate collaborative work of fiction from contradicting itself. Ididn't laugh out loud, but I suspect I was as amused as most people arewhen they disingenuously type "lol" online.Sandler's affinity for children (he has two) shows in his scenes withhis two young cast mates, and Aniston is charming, as she's been inevery role in which I've seen her. The romantic side of this romanticcomedy keeps to the usual template, for the most part, but I knew thatgoing in, and the same old thing is done well. Why you should see it: You like sweet fluff, when it's done fairlywell. Why you shouldn't see it: You fear cinematically-induced diabetes. Youwere hoping for a heartbreaking death scene or a horrific murder. --from my review at www.1man365movies.com
Who would have thought that after failing to strike sparks with romcom costars like Steve Zahn, Aaron Eckhart and Gerard Butler that it would be old buddy Adam Sandler to make Jennifer Aniston shine?
Jim Carter wrote the following review which was published in an Italiannewspaper in April 2011:Two weeks ago and for the first time in six years April Fool's Day fellon a Friday. Of the seven days of the week, there is something peculiarabout Friday. Floating somewhere between old and new, Friday is aculmination that allows recognition of the past week's accomplishmentswhile providing optimism in anticipation for the stretch ahead- a newbeginning. It is due to this phenomenon, specifically the financialvulnerability that accompanies this sort of liberal mindset, that theAmerican film industry, since 1981, has chosen Friday as the nearlyuncontested weekday for the release of Hollywood films. Thus, for the American cinema, Friday April 1st, 2011 was not achildish holiday. Instead, the date marked the Italian release of thenew Adam Sandler film Just Go With It which sent Happy Gilmore fanslike myself running to the box office. How ironic, therefore, that ofthe five April Fool's Days since 1981 that have fallen on a Friday (andperhaps also the twenty five that have not), Just Go With It has proveditself to be the greatest (or worst) joke of all. From director Dennis Dugan, Just Go With It is a romantic comedy whichfollows the heartbroken plastic surgeon Danny Maccabee (Adam Sandler)who uses a fake wedding ring from an "unhappy marriage" as he searcheslocal bars for deceitful sexual encounters. One night at a Los Angeleshouse party Danny's attitude suddenly changes when he meets the girl ofhis dreams in Palmer (Brooklyn Decker). When Palmer discovers thewedding ring, Danny sidesteps the situation claiming that he is gettinga divorce. After Palmer demands to meet his wife, Danny employs hisoffice manager Katherine Murphy (Jennifer Aniston) to pose as hisfuture ex.While he succeeds in convincing Palmer of his impending divorce, Dannyis blackmailed by Katherine's real son (posing as his own), and isforced to take his fake family, along with Palmer, to Hawaii for animpromptu vacation. Danny and Katherine become a sort ofimprovisational comedy troop, struggling to keep up with the lies theyhave created as they grow closer and closer. Eventually, Danny andKatherine slowly lose sight of Palmer, as they fall, instead, for oneanother. In summarizing the plot of Just Go With It, the mere amount of detail, even main characters, one is able to eliminate without altering thestory is a testimony to the poor quality of screen writing exhibited byAllan Loeb. Lacking any clear form of the three act structure, thecharacters indulge in irrelevant excursions such as a dance competitionbetween Katherine and her college adversary, an unexplained repeatedmentioning of the boy band NSYNC, and a strange dinner date that isinterrupted in order to save a dying sheep. The written dialogue is generally boring, containing monologues inwhich the characters simply tell the audience who they are (notablyPalmer's self introduction the first night at the beach). Danny's firstencounter with Palmer is nothing more that visual attraction and lacksany effort in creating a believable chemistry. The story is generallyillogical and lacks reason, as the characters treat importantinstitutions, such as marriage, with impulsiveness; planning andcancelling weddings as if they were dentist appointments. One may argue that a film such as Just Go With It is not intended to bea logical and original treatment of believable relationships, andtherefore should not be criticized within these boundaries. Being aromantic comedy, however, the film does at least carry with it theexpectation of being comic- an expectation unfulfilled.
A Hollywood blockbuster rom-com starring Adam Sandler and JenniferAniston? Despite the duo's careers it'd be hard not having negativepreconceptions about this movie and unfortunately, for the most part, they turned out to be true. The storyline, as well as the dialogue, are slightly more freshcompared to other films from the same genre, however the turn of eventsis still easy to predict, apart fromwhat-seems-to-me-as-a-psycho-girlfriend, Palmer, who weirdly enoughkeeps persisting to engage in all sorts of activities with Danny's (A.Sandler) fake wife and kids without feeling awkward at all in theircompany. Maybe I was brought up differently to others, but as a viewerI cannot help but to grab my head in disbelief when Palmer (B. Decker)comes up with half the stuff she does and none of the characters everquestions, nor claims it as simply pushing things too far. With the weird stuff going this film's more of a dramatic comedy, rather than a romantic one, although the chemistry between Danny andKatherine (Aniston) is definitely something to look at. Aniston does agood job of containing Sandler's repetitive humour to a perfect amount, which results in genuine burst-out laughter on a handful of occasionswhile still maintaining quality jokes throughout the rest of the film. You can bring your other half to 'Just Go with It' on a boring Tuesdayafternoon to the cinema without feeling robbed by the movie industry, however if you're looking for something more in terms of entertainment, humour, etc. this film is not likely to deliver.
Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston star in "Just Go With It." A moviewhere Danny (Adam Sandler) must engage Katherine (Jennifer Aniston),his faithful assistant, to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife. Dannymust pretend that he is married, because he lied to his dream girl,Palmer (Brooklyn Decker) the most gorgeous woman in the world. To keepthe woman he loves, covering up one lie soon turns into many lies.First off, I love the cast! Sandler,Aniston,Decker,Kidman and Swardsonare the dream team comedy cast. The script was filled with humor thatthey carried out so well. There are scenes where you will laugh so hardthat you may get trouble breathing or laugh till you cry.Secondly, while the plot is predictable, watching them as the movieprogresses is definitely fun! The movie also gets interesting whenDevlin(Nicole Kidman) is introduced. I also must say Nick Swardson wasextremely funny! Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler had good chemistryand after all the lies that they told, they eventually discover thetruth.I laughed so much for this movie and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Irecommend it to anyone who is in the mood for a good comedy.
Will they discover the mutual attraction simmering between them all these years? Will there be 80s music? Will Sandler get hit in the nuts? Have you been in a coma since 1996?
