We have taken some photos of "Johnny English Reborn (LQ)". They represent actual movie quality.
Well I went to see this film purely based on the fact that I loved thefirst film. So straight away I was slightly annoyed that Johnny is theonly original character in this film, that doesn't mean that the newcharacters aren't good but I personally would've liked to have seensome familiar faces. The story itself was average, it was interesting but kind offorgettable at the same time, equally it wasn't particularly funny, there were a few laughs to be had but overall it was, you guessed it,average. I guess that's this films biggest flaw is that it's tooforgettable, it wasn't amazing but it wasn't terrible, and some timesthat can be worse than either. In summary; would I pay to watch this film again? no. Will I be buyingthe DVD? no. Will I be watching it when it inevitably gets shown on TV?maybe if nothing else is on.My advice is to watch it for yourself, but to find a way to watch itfor free.
Well, I have seen a lot of comedy movies of recent times and found afew of them pretty interesting too.But this one is really unique byitself. Personally I have always loved watching Rowan Atkinson almostin every character he played so far.The unprecedented combination ofeccentricity and innocence along with genuine good intention alwaysdoes the trick for him. Those who had enjoyed Johny English Part I likethe way I did, they would certainly be overjoyed after watching thismovie. For all other people also, it's a must watch comedy. The majorimprovement in Johny's character which has been seen in this movie isthat unlike the part I, he has become more smart and almost nearlyapproaching towards being a good secret agent. His basic intention ofdoing something great has always been evident in past movies and thesame is reflected here too.The direction of this movie has beenexecuted outstandingly. Musical score is also commendable. All in all, what I can say is that it's better for my readers to go and immediatelywatch the movie than sitting and studying my review here.... :)
(Spoilers are only for certain scenes, not for any important marks inthe film.)Whether it's that I was a lot younger and therefore found the first onea lot more funny during first viewing or that it genuinely was awful, Ihope my review comes clear to those who need a first hand view on thesequel to Mr English's appearance. In comparison to the first film, I consider none of this to be a'masterpiece', not even the slightest.. As the film becomes less andless funny throughout, it also becomes more and more predictable inwhat's going to happen; "Take a seat, Johnny.. but make sure you don'tsit on that exercise ball that is coincidentally in shot of the cameraand you bounced up and down so the audience DEFINITELY acknowledge itspresence!", or how about the fighting scene with the monk? When themonk's psyching himself up, he turns around for a few seconds longerthan necessary, and what do you know? Johnny English has gone missing!Or even the scene in the casino, his assistant says "the Chinese manwith the spectacles", now if it wasn't bad enough that this descriptionis vague enough for anyone to see a number of people matching thisdescription, guess what? Johnny mistakes one man with another WHILSTsat between them! I felt like I was watching a cartoon. Now I don't aimto ruin these scenes for anyone, but if they weren't obvious that theywere going to happen before they did, then call me psychic. I foundmyself pulling a face to say "well, this is stupid." as well as raisingmy hand to suggest "did nobody but me really see that was coming?", butthe number of people in the cinema compared to seats free only feltlike a metaphor for the rating I'd give for the film at this point (4out of 23945873459843).Okay, it has it's funny points; the scene that made me laugh most wassomewhere near the beginning (about 10 minutes in if I rememberrightly) where he mistook some fruit sweets for a voice-changer(typical English) and the 'Susan' scene, I'll admit, that made mesmile. Yes, smile. Not roaring with laughter; a smile. It seems to methat this film only had one intention when it was being written andthat was 'Let's see how stupid we can get this', this was going roundand round in my head during the full film and it hit me towards the endthat Johnny English could've been played by nothing more than a clownhimself. The humour was limited (and even then, barely funny), thestoryline I wasn't really keen on and didn't match the first film atall (not even any references - that I'm aware of; I'm pretty sure hehad his assistant 'Boff', got a girl and became king or something? Noneof these are mentioned at all).To sum up, this film was definitely not worth seeing. I would rather Ihadn't seen it, scratch that, I'd rather they hadn't made it and leftthe first film as it ended, then I wouldn't be so disappointed about'Johnny English' as a whole.
I was a little surprised after watching the film because it is not asfunny as the first one. I think the cat-window scene and the aircrafton board are the most laughable part. Do not be so excited thinkingthat it would be a funny Atkinson movie... I remember in the firstmovie that many dialogs and scenes were awesome and funny that thelaughter was not stoppable in minutes. Of course, there are some scenesthat have a British black humor like chasing on the roofs and on thesea. They are only making you smile. Chasing the wrong woman indifferent scenes, even at the end of film, gets you bored indeed.Overall, the film deserves 5-6 out of 10 at most.
OK, can someone please help me understand why this film is getting 10out of 10's? Im sorry, but I was a big fan of the first Johhny English.Without being too cynical, I thought it was good fun and gave you a fewlaughs, but I wasn't too sure whether there would be a sequel or not.Surprise surprise there wasn't and that was fine, they left it and itstill stands well a few years on. However when Johhny English wasannounced this year, one thing popped into my mind ' oh great,Hollywood are cashing in again' just like on all the other sequels andremakes they've done year's after the originals. Now don't get me wrongthere are some really good things about this movie. Firstly, some ofthe humour is very good: the meeting scene with the chair, the firstmeeting with the head of the spy organisation, some of the party sceneswith the mistaken old lady and the fight scene with the man who usesloads of stunts to run from Johhny, whereas Rowan Atkinson justcasually chases him using amusing stunts. However, even these scenes aren't as funny as they should be. The chasescene near the beginning just isn't as good as it should be, it seemsto lack atmosphere and gets very tedious. Now let's get to some of thethings that are bad about this movie. The plot is just....ridiculous attimes. Brain control, OK fair enough it's been done but it's original, but hte fact that Johhny English can resist it at the end....one of thestrongest mind control drugs in existence according to the movie and hecan just go against it...OK right. The spontaneous romance with theblonde, which goes nowhere and is just so pointless. No indication isgiven towards it until Johhny runs to her flat after he is beingpursued by the MI6. Some of the acting is very flat too. Agent tucker,is funny in parts, but he lacks charisma and doesn't seem to have muchof a funny side character to accomplice Johhny. Not like Bough whocombined well with Johhny in the first movie....and talking of Bough,he's listed in the cast, but I don't recall him in the movie. Unless hehad a cameo which I missed.Overall, this film is very flat and dull. Granted the humour is good atpoints, and some of the special effects are fun, but more often thannot you're given boring dialogue, ridiculous story with many plot holesand flat acting that is uninspired and just not humorous. I think a4/10 is well deserved for a film which I was looking forward to, butleft me disappointed.
I have no idea why the sequel to the funny Johnny English took at least8 years to be made. I am surprised that there're no Direct-To-DVDsequels (It is smart not to). Guess what. This is bigger than the firstone though I wouldn't say that this is more funnier than the firstmovie but this at least has some hilarious moments. Surprisingly,Singapore has this faster than in U.K and USA.The story: The movie opens with Johnny English training with monks in amountain. He is 'kicked out' from the British spy agency as he mostlymessed up his mission. But Johnny is called back for the impossiblemission...This is not like the first one. I have to admit that thiscontains some tense moments and sometimes, it is like the movie hasveered off into the thriller/spy genre. It contains more serious spystuff and people being shot and injured than the first one and the lasthalf and hour seems to be taken from a serious spy movie like JamesBond. This also amps up the action by having a number of chases scenes. This still has its fair share of funny parts due to Rowan. He may begetting old but he still has what it takes to be funny. Look at hispriceless expressions. The movie mostly packs slapstick and tries to befunny at most times. Some jokes work and a few do not. One of the mostamazing things in the movie is that all the actors and actresses cankeep a straight face when Rowan acts funny in front of them.Overall: I enjoyed this spy thriller spoof due Rowan. He is the perfectJohnny English, the underdog spy. I would be wishing for another sequelbut again, it's the Box Office. Hope that this makes more money thanthe first one and voilà , another sequel in a few years time. But pleasedon't make me wait for 10 years.
I'm amazed. TRULY amazed how high this movie is scoring. It starts okay, a few laughs here and there the first 5 minutes, butthe jokes get really old and predictable really fast. It's almost as ifthe plot was written down on one A4 sheet, handed to Rowan and thentell him "Here, try and make this funny for us" And to give him some credit, he does an okay job, I smiled a lotthinking of how that scene reminded of Mr. Bean and how much funnierthat would have been.Don't watch it in the theater! Wait until some unsuspecting friendaccidentally rents it and you have absolutely nothing else to do exceptto watch that movie and wonder how and why this got made.I'll give it a 5 for a few laughs, but I laugh more at 30s clips onyoutube.
First off, I am a Rowan Atkinson fan. I had seen the first JohnnyEnglish movie and I absolutely loved it. Its been a while since I haveseen a good comedy movie. Most of the so called comedies these daysresort to crude jokes, mostly involving poop or genitals or peoplegetting drunk/high and doing stuff. This movie thankfully did notresort to such crude humor. After having seen the first movie, I didnot have very high expectations. The first one had me in splits every15 minutes or so. Although Johnny English Reborn does not match up tothe first part, in the parts where its funny it is "rolling on floorlaughing" funny. That said, Johnny English reborn isn't an out and outfunny movie, they have tried to infuse a story and it would've beenlike any other spy movie apart from the fact that the spy is our veryown bungling 'Johnny'. I particularly loved the following parts: 1. Thescene with Gillian Anderson's mother. 2. The scene at the briefing withthe Prime Minister. 3. The scene where he is fleeing on a wheelchair..that I thought was brilliant.. 4. The scene at the end where he isdrugged..I must say that it was a thoroughly entertaining movie and I recommendyou all to watch it..
Johnny English is a comedy/action picture. It starts with him intraining in some sort of karate camp somewhere in the mountains inanother country. He had worked as a secret agent and was supposed to protect the leaderof another country but the leader was killed and he was blamed for notdoing his job right. He gets called back to work. Johnny is clumsy, tripping, banging his head, using the wrong secret weapons at the wrongtime or in the wrong way. There is a 3 piece key that every spy is looking for. A member of hisgroup is a traitor but no one know who it is. Johnny is really stupidbut gets the job done, somewhat like Peter Seller as InspectorClouseau. He also has a young black partner who is a lot smarter themhim. The movie has lots of action, jumping from building, car chases, shooting with special weapons etc.I think it is a good family movie but for older kids. There is noswearing or sex just lots of laughs. I enjoyed it.
It is quite evident that this film and the preceding 2003 version aremuch lighter analogies of James Bond movies. Having said that, any orall clichés or scenes that resemble those in Bond films are negatedsimply due to the satirical nature of this film and in no way does ittry to be more that what it is a comedy. Here's a re-cap if you have missed the first part. Johnny English(Rowan Atkinson) is a bumbling idiot whose incompetence leads to thedeath of British Intelligence operative 'Agent One'. At the funeralthat follows and under English's watch, all remaining MI-7 agents arekilled by a dirty bomb. It is now up to English to avert a plot tosteal the Crown Jewels and stop a despot from claiming the Crown ofBritain. With this second installment, we learn that after the firstmovie, English becomes a top agent on Her Majesties' Secret Service butafter bungling up a high profile mission in Mozambique, is dismissedfrom the Secret Service. Before the opening credits we are taken toTibet, where in a monastery, English learns martial arts and gainsinsight and retribution for his past mistakes. Soon after, MI-7re-instates English after learning of a plot to kill the Chinese PrimeMinister due to attend a summit in Switzerland. What follows is anaction packed, albeit, laughter induced farce where English mustprevent a shadow organization known as 'Vortex' from assassinating theChinese premier. Through trial and error, and many more errors, hediscovers the involvement of the KGB and the CIA and learns that no onecan be trusted, including friends at MI-7. Why do I think this movie is better than the first? For starters, PeterHowitt from the first movie is replaced by Oliver Parker as director, giving "Reborn" a tweaked look and feel that results in a fast pacedfilm with never a dull moment. Although Howitt's version relies heavilyon witty dialogue synonymous with typical British humor, Parker takesthis further by giving us moments we really want to seeÂRowan Atkinsondoing what he does best. As such, there are moments where we get to seeMr. Bean again. Standout scenes are when English attends an emergencymeeting with the British prime Minister and whenever he has to recallthe "Mozambique" incident; hilarious and priceless, yet scenes with anunmistakable "Bean" signature. Having also written the screenplay forthe first movie, William Davies returns as co-writer but punctuates thescript with equal amounts of action and comedy. While comedy hereconsists of visual gags, minor slapstick moments and English's eyebrowraising dialogue, action is peppered with car chases, firefights anduse of gadgetry found in espionage movies. On that note, the plot takeson a slightly darker shade as compared to the first movie, resulting ina final act that looks almost as if it were indeed an espionagethriller. Like a Bond film, the plot also has English going places andis seen in and out of Tibet, Macau, Hong Kong and London, with anexplosive finale on the Swiss Alps. For a comedy of this nature, don't expect anything along the lines ofserious acting. Watching this movie with that expectation willseriously undermine a viewer's experience, especially with Atkinson asthe titled lead. His facial expressions alone are enough to throwperformance gauging out the window. Aside form Atkinson, GillianAnderson heads MI-7 as "Pegasus" in a role parallel to M in Bondflicks. Rosamund Pike is the agency's psychiatric-consultant andEnglish's love interest while Dominic West plays another covertoperative in a role critical to the plot. Playing English's sidekickand voice of reason, new comer Daniel Kaluuya adds to the laughter asEnglish's only admirer. As a Chinese assassin, PikSen Lim has some ofthe best scenes in the film opposite Atkinson. It was only after thescreening and while researching for this review that I realized withamazement, that Lim played Chung Su-Lee, a Chinese communist butEnglish student in the UK, in that 1970s sitcom "Mind Your Language".For the most part, it must have been a herculean task for all otheractors to maintain a straight face while Atkinson went about his comictalents. As a comedy, "Reborn" is in a class of its own. Even so, fans of the"Austin Powers" franchise may find "Johnny English Reborn" a tad bitmore entertaining, minus the often colorful characters associated withthe former. As I stated in the beginning, if you are willing to takethis movie at face value, then you will find yourself chuckling all theway to the end.
So here we are, nearing the end of the year 2011 and what better way tocelebrate than with some nice original British comedy? I say original,as far as working title go for originality it seems their idea pool isbeginning to run dry.'Johnny English: Reborn' is the sequel to a fairly successful originalcomedy 'Johnny English'. As with the word 'sequel' warning bells shouldstart to ring almost instantly. It is a rare occasion in which a sequelis better than its predecessor. So, the big question, is Rebornsuperior? Well no, but we can't say that it didn't try. It is clearjust how far filmmaking has come in recent years, technology isadvancing, special effects continue to get more dazzling (not thatthere were many in this film), yet scriptwriting seems to be gettingforever poorer. So, the plot; Johnny English was dismissed from MI7after a mission went badly and somebody under his security wasassassinated. I'm really wracking my brains to try and think of exactlywho it was and where it was Mozambique I think, but even now thosedetails are starting to trickle away from my brain. Anyway, English hasbeen called back into the force five years on to take on a trio ofassassins by the name of 'Vortex', and thus begins an epic tale ofbetrayal, self-discovery and custard pie to the face comedy.I don't want to give away any spoilers, though much of the plot ishorribly predictable. Should this really matter however? This is RowanAtkinson after all, the man who invented the comedy icon which is MrBean, a comedy idol. I'm ashamed to say that it indeed does matter.Don't get me wrong, there were true moments of comedy genius in thisfilm (much of it towards the end), but most of it was samey boring andrather repetitive. Worst of all, as I touched on earlier in the review,it was predictable. One part that does need mention however was when the film didn't seemto be able to decide if it wanted to attempt a horror/thrillerapproach. It was immediately quashed after the big 'jump' moment, butironically, I think it could have worked.Onto the acting; Rowan Atkinson was obviously doing what he does best, and we can't fault him on his performance, just the lack of substancein the film in general. Unfortunately there seemed to be no chemistrybetween any of the actors whatsoever, and all of them seemed to betrying to keep afloat in the wake left by Atkinson. Daniel Kaluuya dida fair job as Agent tucker, yet still nothing special.I must note that I was highly disappointed that Natalie Imbruglia didnot make a return in this film. She was one of the driving forces thatmade the original film such a success, and her chemistry with Atkinsonworked. Whereas there was an attempt at a romance blossoming in thisfilm, it really didn't seem to take off.A question which we are all wondering of course is 'Will it become afranchise?' I really don't think so. The original Johnny English workedwell as a standalone film, we didn't need anymore, nor any less. Allthat Reborn has proved is that trying to add something to which nothingcan or should be added to, does not work. This is the point where I am supposed to say to you that 'If you likedthe first Johnny English then you'll love Reborn cause it is prettymuch more of exactly the same thing'. Sadly not, the lack of charactersfrom the original made it less like a sequel and more like a stab inthe dark. It was a brave stab in the dark I'll give them that, howeverfor me, and for many others, it did not work.In conclusion, there are some genuinely funny moments in the film whichhad me giggling for a fair amount of time after the film had finished. All of these moments will be lost, none of them are truly memorable. Ifyou like the general slapstick comedy style which is infesting modernsociety nowadays, you will like Reborn. If you were hoping forsomething which was born from the original and developed into a finerstyle for this instalment, you will be sadly disappointed.Give it a look if you need some quick smiles, otherwise guys, nothingspecial.Until next time. The Critic.
OK lets not beat around the bush here, you know what your gonna see andits delivered perfectly as always, heres a for instance: he walks intoa board room and an important meeting going on, there sitting on chairsthat go up and down and before it even begins you know full well hesgonna go up and down and side to side and break it, and thats exactlywhat he does in true bean fashion for a full 10 minutes.you'l have the simply Devinne awkward embarrassment i.e rugby tacklingthe queen, and you'l get your perfectly executed deluded fool way putof his league yet winging it none the less.i find that watching a Rowan Atkinson film is a lot like ordering ameal from a good restaurant - you know what your expecting, you payyour money at the door, you step inside and you enjoy it, its notamazing and its certainly not bad at all its just right.i imagine I've made it sound boring but well, who else could play thispart, Rowan is unique and I've seen him all my life, I'm not bored - ifanything its like listening to a good joke, you know it and it stilltickles you. id pay to watch a 3rd
Reason I say surprisingly, is because I expected this movie to beterrible. I was expecting another awful sequel to a, by no meansbrilliant comedy. I was also a little skeptical about the fact therehas been such a long time between both movies. But I have to say thiswasn't that bad.I enjoyed the original. Light hearted, slapstick humour, and it wasvery enjoyable. This sequel is much of the same, maybe not quite asgood, but still solid enough. There were 2 moments that really made melaugh out loud, therefore thats 2 more times I laughed than when I haveever watched an episode of 2 and a half men which for some reasonpeople absolutely worship.Bad points - Some of the jokes in this one were a little overplayed anddrawn out as well as predictable. The supporting cast were nowhere nearas good as the original so most of the movie is carried by Atkinson. Atleast with the last one they had John Malkovich who shared the spoilsbut in this one West, Pike and Anderson don't really deliver the goods. The whole agent feel has also disappeared. Even though he's supposed tobe stupid, some of the things he does are just so idiotic, it justisn't funny. Good points - The 2 bits that made me laugh, made me laughfor a while. They weren't just sniggers or a chuckle. Atkinson stillhas the ability to make me smile with his facial expressions andcarries the film himself so that it doesn't completely fall flat. Storyis as expected but at least they took the time to think one up ratherthan just relying on slapstick.Overall the movie was quite fun. No more than a 6/10. Not quite as goodas the original, but I wasn't expecting it to be. Worth renting to seeonce if you enjoyed the first one.
Before I start writing my thoughts about the movie, do have in mindthat I am a enormous fan of Rowan's work. He truly is a comic genius, and still, hasn't lost his touch. As for the film, it's the worst movie I've seen so far this year. I hadNO expectations. I loved the first one from 2002/2003, when it cameout, thinking - if it would be only half as good as the original, itwould be worth it. I was wrong. The target audience are children, under 10 or so. Anyone else, olderthan that, won't even chuckle. I know. I wasn't the only one in thecinema over 10. The kids behind me were having a blast, screaming outat the top of their lungs. There is nothing original. The story is shallow, uninteresting, andbadly written. The cast of supporting actors is shameful, none of themgive an performance worth of noticing. It's a real shame the actors whoportrayed Agent Boff in the first part wasn't here. Probably with areason. The best parts, the most laughable, are the ones in the trailer. That'sit. Not one scene more. By the end of the movie, you will be looking atyour watch, asking yourself 'how much more until it ends'.Rowan Atkinson still hasn't lost his touch though, and was a realpleasure to look at while he was doing what he does best. Sadly, hisperformance wasn't enough for this movie to even be enjoyable.I advise not to watch it. I honestly don't, even though I honestlynever have any expectations from any movie. If you have children, they'll love it though.
I watched the trailer before actually watching the movie. The trailerwas really funny and it promised a hell lot. But, the trailer isclipped right from the first 5 min of the movie and what follows is astring of flat jokes. I tried to keep watching anticipating improvementbut, after 30 min I had to walk out. Horribly flat jokes... 1 jokekeeps going on until the point it falls flat on your face. The actingis excruciatingly bad... Atkinson makes childish faces rightthroughout. The problem with the jokes in the movie is that it is easyto guess what it would turn out to be.. and it so does ..only in apainfully slow way... Save your time!!
This being a compromise film chosen after Contagion wasn't showing,I've got to say it was a very easy compromise to make once the filmbegan. Despite some earlier reviews claiming there were only a few LOLmoments, it was in fact quite the opposite, I was crying with laughterevery 3 minutes and since my laughter is the continuous type I'm glad Iwent to the late night showing! Very family suited or just a fun filmfor all age ranges (0-100):') I was slightly confused on the Toshibathing, but that is all I have to complain about. If you're depressed,go watch it. Worked for me :D (ps, there are some horror elements (Imean the hoover lady, gave me nightmares!)
I wish i could 1000000 out of 10. Trust me guys... you don't want tomiss this movie. Go for it. I believe there can't be any better morecomedy movie ever made in Hollywood or which ever --- -wood. If i loved Johnny English, then let me tell you, this movie is 1million times better than JE old.I am crazily in love with it. I havewatched that many movies that you can;t even imagine. I watch everymovie very closely. In this movie, there was not even 1 scene i couldpredict.Man.... I can't even imagine that i am so luckky to watch it.Common guys, don;t be confused at all. GO FOR IT...Crazily freakingly complete unpredicatble super awesome best comedyever made.
The first 10 minutes aren't as funny as the scenes could have been, buti must say that the producers really managed to combine serious themessuch as spying and the death of people with very funny thing. In myopinion, the funniest scenes are those with the old Asian killer indifferent situations. What didn't like was that from a very earlymoment of time in the movie, you could say who the third member ofVortex was. but that also has a good side: it shows Johnnys(RowanAtkinson)stupidity. It was crystal clear that there were a lot ofsimilarities with some James Bond movies, such as Thunderball. Therewere also some scenes which were just hilarious, such as he scene withthe chair.
The most unlikely intelligence officer in Her Majesty's Secret Servicemust stop a group of international assassins before they eliminate aworld leader and cause global chaos. In the years since MI-7's top spy vanished off the grid, he has beenhoning his unique skills in a remote region of Asia. But when his agency superiors learn of an attempt against the Chinesepremier's life, they must hunt down the highly unorthodox agent. Nowthat the world needs him once again, Johnny English is back in action. With one shot at redemption, he must employ the latest in hi-techgadgets to unravel a web of conspiracy that runs throughout the KGB,CIA and even MI-7.....The first movie wasn't that great, but had some endearing quality toit. Almost ten years later, Atkinson decides he wants more money, so hemakes another English movie, after all the last Bean film was turgid.Frankly though, this wasn't that bad, there are the usual sight gagsand toilet humour, but thanks to the reliable Lead and great support, the film becomes something okay, and I even found myself laughing atparts. To the film is childish is an understatement, it relies more on visualhumour than the script, and this is where the film falters, the scriptis poor and needed a lot of work on.But the narration is steady and the chemistry between the cast is good.if the script was polished and funnier, this could have been a treat, instead, it's just distracting, and then forgettable.
For me as a Flanlander living in the UK it is very interesting to learnabout the international reactions on this movie since it is really oneof the best British movies of all time.Main Plot: Though I can only catch English isolated phrases here andthere, I still find the film entertaining. I laughed out loud manytimes. The sets are also decorated nicely, each of the apartments areset up so that they really feel like a home sweet home. Apart from being entertaining, it also promotes tolerance anddiversity. ... Hillarios! For me, as a straight guy, it was a fantasticmovie. I really hope that the subtitles are o.k., since a lot oftranslations of Hollywood movies or TV-series are badly made (e.g.FRIENDS: brilliant in English, but terrible English translation) Enjoy!
