Number Five and still rolling

I watched the fifth instalment of the Jesse Stone story. I will not say it is my favorite. Stone Cold is my favorite. But the fifth one, Thin Ice is well worth watching and owning. The charactor development is not as good as earlier ones, nor is the plot as itricate. I atribute that to Parkers book and not the acting or direction. The story is still credible. I own the whole series that has been released to date. I have even given some extra DVD copies away to friends to enjoy. I highly recommend this and all of the Jesse Stone films. I live not far away from there the fictional town of Paradise, Massachusetts is supposed to be located. Aside from the area being abit more populated that is portrayed in the movie, they capture the feel of the area 15 to 20 miles North of Boston. I hope there will be a number six so Jesse's charactor is redeemed from his drinking and vindicated in his work...Jesse Stone: Thin Ice

Still love Jesse/Tom

Mr. Selleck, as usual, turns in a great performance in Thin Ice. I love the Jesse Stone series but thought this one had a little less meat to the story. Not sure what was lacking but I thought the previous episodes were a little better than this one. However, compared to most tv movies/shows, this one was still a class act. Tom Selleck and his castmates are pleasures to watch. I agree with the other reviewer, though, who said he needs to just erase the messages. Seems to me the ex-wife just likes to maintain a bit of control over poor Jesse. She doesn't want him but she doesn't want him to be able to live without her. Can't have it both ways, lady!Looking forward to being able to buy this dvd to add to our collection of Jesse Stone movies. I hope they go on for a long long time. Oh, and that dog: what a face!

Love Stone? Love Selleck!

I can't imagine a happier marriage of author, character and actor...nor imagine a more compelling touch in producing what are already engrossing mysteries. Selleck is so far past Magnum PI or even his westerns in this Jesse Stone series, that fans old and new will be in awe! The camera work should be underwritten by the local Chamber of Commerce!

Liked it

I love the feel of these (made for TV) movies. And as another personcommented, I also like the music and how it adds to the atmosphere. This one had good attention to detail, I thought. At least, based on acouple of things I noticed. At the firing range Suitcase had a Bic fourcolor pen in his breast pocket; when he was taking notes on hisobservation of the bad guy outside the bar, he used the same (sort of?)pen to write them. There were a few other little details like that -clearly, the people who put this together took good care with the film. And I continue to be impressed with how Tom Selleck portrays JesseStone. Tom might be older than Jesse, but he does a fantastic job. I'msure that Robert B. Parker would have been happy.

Cheers for Jesse Stone!

Love the series but this one was a little rote. "I'm the police chief mostly I give out parking tickets" Jesse Stone cliches abound - too much so for me. It seems like half the dialog is old rehashed Jesse Stone cliches. Things seemed to move in a choppy sort of way almost like people were just walking through their parts and I didn't feel the fire. His romance was too reminiscent of his one with Abby (Paradise City Attorney - who was murdered) again almost down to the same lines. I hope the sequel has a little more meat to it, this is too good a series to have it die out in a lackluster way. BTW I wish John Beal would release the sound track - the theme is classic.

Well Done Series of Mystery Movies

This review is from: Jesse Stone: Thin Ice (DVD) have all five of the movies in this series. Tom Selleck is at his best in all of them. All are very entertaining and suspenseful. The cast of supporting actors in the series is complementing. I would recommend this series to anyone who is a Tom Selleck fan or likes a good mystery, drama, and a movie with a little action in it.

Kudos to Tom Selleck

You know what?I'll just create this "in the clear."And I'll state and write my prejudice up front:Tom Selleck is one of the most UNDERappreciated actors in my generation. All of these four DVDs are massively worthwhile, as I'm sure the fifth is.Look. Let's be plain.Either you like Tom Selleck our you don't. But you wouldn't be here if you didn't appreciate his artistry. You wouldn't be wasting time reading this. Got you.I'm buying this DVD. Period. BECAUSE it features Tom Selleck.BZ

Jesse Stone

Weakest entry in the series

A fair mystery and secondary plot, but this one doesn't measure up tothe previous episodes in the series. Changing Molly to Rose isinexplicable, the town council is larger than the police force andSidney Greenstreet(!) are just a few of the irritants. Tom Selleck isterrific as usual, Cathy Baker does a fine job as Rose and WilliamDevane is sarcastic and entertaining but the plot with the town counciljust doesn't seem believable or logical. With the force down to threepeople with one on light duty, it seems counterproductive to threatenChief Stone over such petty matters. Oh well, what can you expect frompoliticians? We hope there are more movies coming. My wife and I reallylike the Jesse Stone movies, but this one is not as good as the rest, not really bad, just not on par with the rest.

Classic Parker and Selleck

This review is from: Jesse Stone: Thin Ice (DVD) There is a "feel" for these Jesse Stone dramas that has to do with good story, location, pace, good cast, and realism. This one has the "feel." I have enjoyed several times.

Another Good Gift

This review is from: Jesse Stone: Thin Ice (DVD) This review is the same as the last one for Jesse Stone: Death in Paradise. This was another movie in the Jesse Stone collection that my Dad did not have, so I thought it would be a really great Christmas gift to give him.

Sixth Jesse Stone Film Is The Weakest

Tom Selleck returns for a sixth time as chief Jesse Stone in Paradise. This time he's on the trail of who shot Captain Healy (StephenMcHattie) and himself one night while they were parked doingsurveillance. Meanwhile a woman (a very compelling Camryn Manheim) fromAlbuquerque arrives clinging to a thread of hope about her missing son.Jesse prefers not to take the case but allows Rose (Kathy Baker) totake up the case herself. Simultaneously Captain Healy warns Jesseagainst pursuing the shooter, and the town council prepares todiscipline Stone. Like the previous films, the story developsdeliberately. Selleck is perfect in the title role as usual. The filmtouches on minor threads from previous story lines, like Luther'scognition, while maintaining its focus on the present. William Devanereturns as Doctor Dix and Kerri Smith returns as Sister Mary John. Thisis the first film in the series with an original script not based onone of Robert B. Parker's novels. Once again Robert Harmon directs. Thebackground music really does add a nice touch. I wonder if LeslieHope's Sidney Greenstreet character is intended to be a joke for filmbuffs. **1/2 of 4 stars.
