Too cheesy for grownups so hope kids like

It was beginning to look like a good story. Then the cheesiness cameinto play. A bit over acted and silly. Again, maybe the very young kidswill like this adaptation. I soon lost interest and wished GilbertGottfried (the goose) would just shut up already. The creation of Jack and the Beanstalk, I believe, was hurried and nottoo much focus on creation. I mean, the giant was not even a giant, more like a big puppet, etc. Most likely you will take the kids along to a theater to see and hopethey will enjoy just the silliness of it all and not my luck of seeinga screener as an adult and no kids along while expecting a totallydifferent style of movie. A More serious adaptation maybe? I thinkDisney would have done a better job.My forecast for reviews of Jack and the Beanstalk will be, in gradelevel, user's (C) and critics (C). Or a 5 rating in IMDb.

Fairy Tale Brought to Life

Jack and The Beanstalk surprises me! It's the fairytale I've been readto by my parents when I was growing up, and for the these fairytale tobe brought to live is simply mesmerizing!Imagine finding out how grotesque the Giant is, how tall the beanstalkis, to see Red Riding Hood, & the other fairytale heroes, well, aren'tthose wonderful?Well, they didn't make the film to be the exact copy as the originalfairytale, but hey, it is not a crime! And I don't think that followingthe original can make the the film boring & with no surprise factor. And do one put most of the fairytale characters in a film withoutmaking adjustments? What I find most interesting about this film is the dialogs. Had theviewers listen carefully, they would realize that the jokes are funny, and takes jibes to many issues. And the cast are amazing! Yeah, some might find the goose to be a tadexaggerating, but other than that, it's all cool yo!And did I mention about the pillow fight? Alright. I did some readingand found out that in order not to get an R rating, but still needingto have fighting scenes. So they decided to have a fighting scene, butnot using bats and chains, but using pillows! Ingenious!Recommended, and suitable to be watched by children. 10/10 on thataccount.

Very silly - but that's okay

The plot and dialogue were ridiculous and the set, costumes, make-up,etc. looked like they were from an elementary school production. And it was fine, because they were *supposed* to be. It was wacky and silly; the main action scene features the heroine dual-wielding white pillows against a group of black-clad, red-pillow-wielding martial arts/ninja baddies. The fight scene gleefully ticks off every applicable cliche. It's funny, ridiculous, and thoroughly enjoyable. The non-preschooler viewers will enjoy the Princess Bride reference, the "Who's On First" routine, and the Monty Python's Flying Circus skit, among others. It's fun trying to catch every fairy tale character mentioned, and every fairy tale trope or in-joke.Chloe Moretz (Kick-#$$ and others) was of course excellent as... nearly every female character in the movie. I think I counted her playing four roles, though I may have missed one or two. To be honest, I found Gilbert Gottfried (the Goose) irritating, but he was undeniably funny. (As a Supernatural fan I'm prejudiced regarding Colin Ford, so I will refrain from comment except to mention that he won a Young Artist Award for this role.)In short, if you want High Art this is possibly not the place; but those who enjoy humor will enjoy this.

so darn silly- REALLY silly in fact... but it's a nice kids movie

Jack & The Beanstalk is really really *strange*. I think that's supposed to be the point so perhaps I'm just surprised how accurate the fairytale aspect turned out to be. Yes, a child climbs a beanstalk, but the way the storyline develops -and especially the outrageous characters he meets along the way- is really... unique. "Unique" is the best way to describe it. What's especially strange is the very beginning- Jack is a small boy who apparently grows up in a very secluded town with beautiful land and beautiful houses. The people however, are FAR from beautiful (I didn't even REALIZE that was Christopher Lloyd playing the character of a school teacher with those wrinkles in his face, haha). His facial expressions are awesome like always though, but I'm surprised he played the role of a strict teacher with high expectations out of his students. The main reason I dropped the rating one point is because there's this goose character played by Gilbert Gottfried, and we do NOT need an abundance of him OR that screechy high-pitched voice of his, haha. All you parents out there beware- if you hate Gilbert Gottfried, you will be hearing his voice plenty of times while your kids are sitting on the living room floor and watching this movie. It WILL get on your nerves. However, despite Gilbert's voice, he's actually funny. He tags along with Jack and climbs the beanstalk. By the way, how freaky IS it to think about climbing a beanstalk all the way to the sky? I was getting light-headed and weak-stomached watching Jack and Gilbert's goose character navigate their way to the top.Once they reach the top, they meet a man holding a harp who reveals his daughter has been taken away. There was a joke here that I believe they beat into the ground- every time Jack or Gilbert mentioned "Destiny's Harp" the man would cry. It was a little much. They also eventually meet a HILARIOUS backwards Chevy Chase character and an adorable girl who Jack has a crush on. She turns out to be on their side and knows how to kick some mean butt! There was definitely some creepiness in the atmosphere. The foggy areas with the whispering voices is one such example, and just the quiet tone of the borderline heavenly atmosphere is another. Perhaps the ending could have been better. I didn't care for it much. Then again, I don't remember the story too well and how it was supposed to end. However, I believe it could have been more exciting considering the adventurous tone that dominated most of the storyline. Overall, this is NOT for adults, haha. I felt a little guilty for enjoying it as much as I did. It's most certainly a childrens fairytale movie. A must watch for children.
