Iron Man

The playboy wolf and genius Tony Stark is the successful CIO of the Stark Industries, a weapon company founded by his father. His second in command is Obadiah Stane, who worked with his father, and his loyal and professional secretary is Pepper Potts, who has a crush on Tony. While in Afghanistan to demonstrate the ultimate Jericho missile developed by his company, his military convoy is attacked and Tony is seriously wounded on his chest and kidnapped by a group of rebels that wants him to assemble a missile for their use. Tony stays with his abductors for three months and develops a powerful metallic armor to escape from the cave where he is arrested. He decides to stop manufacturing weapons in his company under the protest of Obadiah, and dedicates his time to improve the armor, manufacturing it with gold and titanium and installing a propulsion system to fly. However, Pepper discovers that Tony was betrayed by Obadiah, who is using Tonys data to build prototype armor for him, transforming it in the ultimate weapon.

after the ending

after the final scene when they have a press conference and ask "Who Is Ironman?" it quickly goes to the credits (lots of info) but you can skip to the end of it(after the dolby logo) there is a 30 second scene that will suprise you for the next movie, someone who will amaze you that they will be there.

Downey Jr. is such a kick in this movie it is not implausible to note him as a potential Oscar nominee in the Johnny Depp, "Pirates of the Caribbean" slot...

Face front, true believers!

Marvel has certainly put out more movies than DC, but the movies havebeen up and down. For the first time, Marvel has fully funded themovie, giving them more control of the script, plot, casting choices, and the overall feel. Depending on the current people at Marvel, thatmight not have been a good thing.Yet, Marvel has shown that no one knows their business like them. Theypresent a blend of the right amount of character development, charactergrowth, and action. The story doesn't sacrifice action, but doesn'tleave you feeling woozy from scene after scene. This is a great story. The script captures the glibness of the comicwhile not dipping into campiness. The climactic ending, too, could havebeen in one of the better Marvel books. Gone is the stilted deus exmachina ending of Fantastic Four and Ghostrider. The casting is awesome and all the actors do a fantastic job. I neverdoubted that Robert Downy Jr. would live up to the part. Such a wastethat he blew so many years on the drugs. I had worried about JohnLefavreu as a director, but there's nothing bad that can be said aboutthe film.Except that it leaves you wanting more. The film doesn't glut you onoverkill action and powers, but rightly develops a character. Itfollows suit with Batman Returns and the first Spiderman. It alsoreminds you that it will be too darn long before there is a sequel.Somewhere, Stan Lee is smiling.

I must need a shot of testosterone or something

I don't understand why I am supposed to like this movie. What facet ofmy personality, dreams or desires is this film supposed to appeal to?American war mongering blood lust? Chauvinistic bravado? The need todehumanize foreign cultures? I don't have much of that it in me , sothe Afghan location was beyond offensive. It's no small wonder my sad, pathetic country engages in these brutal, illegal actions with solittle questioning from its citizens when I see the high rating thismovie gets here. Usually I trust this site, but this is just bizarre.Even if I was the biggest flag waving Type A male chauvinist pig, I'msorry, this movie would still suck. The plot is unbelievable from theget go. A military supply company founder/inventor is a celebrity thateverybody knows and wants an autograph from? Ridiculous. Under thewatchful eyes of surveillance cameras a supposed missile instead takeson the shape of the prototype body super-suit that it actually iswithout anybody noticing? A man who made killing machines all his lifesuddenly decides to make a machine that's "not a weapon?" How is it nota weapon, and when did Stark have this epiphany that changed his entireoutlook on life? Maybe I was rolling my eyes during that scene andmissed it. A hard-hitting reporter suddenly decides to jump in the sackwith Stark? Don't ask me, I'm just a girl! hee hee hee. Totallyludicrous and disrespectful to women. And why did Gwyneth's characterneed to be in this movie? Why did his friend and partner suddenlybecome a bad guy? And if he wanted to kill Stark, maybe it would havebeen easier if he had utilized one of those many occasions when hissuit was off. Conveniently for the flag wavers, Iron Man flies off to spread freedomin a sad little country that needs a big American hero to help them.More appropriately, perhaps he could have disrupted an illegal Americaninterrogation or U.S. shooting/bombing of innocent civilians. Thatsurely has caused the death and suffering of many thousands more thanthis ridiculous caricature of an Afghan war lord ever could/did.I'm still not sure if I watched a movie, or a U.S. Marines enlistmentcommercial.

It's fantastic to see a superhero movie getting away from the navel-gazing to serve up overboard action with a knowing sense of humour.

Awesome CGI and Acting makes for a brilliant film!!!

After watching Iron Man for the second time my views have not changedon this superb movie. A lot of hype has been building up to the releaseof this film and Jon Favreau did not fail to provide us with anaction-packed, well written script and a very involving plot. Withbrilliant acting from Robert Downey Jr as the quick-witted Tony Starkand a good performance from Gwyneth Paltrow they seem to hold the movietogether and with great results. One thing that stood out for me in this film was the amazing CGI andeffects. It is noticeable that they squeezed everything that wasavailable in the CGI and it shows with awesome fighting and high speedflying scenes.I am not going to give anything away about this movie but it isdefinitely a must watch and possibly a must own.Well Done Marvel!!!

A lot better than expected

I thought this was going to be your natural superhero movie with prettygood action, decent acting, and a pretty solid plot. This movie was tentimes better than pretty good, decent, and pretty solid. This movie wasa AWESOME movie, its plot was kind of realistic, the acting on allparts was outstanding, and the action was great as well. This movie gotplenty of cheers from the audience, and Robert Downey Jr. was veryfunny actually. I've only seen one other movie with him which waspretty good but he came out the box and did very well in this movie, asdid Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, and Gweneth Paltrow. This movieoverall was a great movie and it was an excellent way to spend aSaturday night. This movie is going to be a huge success at the boxoffice and with good reason.

I don't think so

When I watched the Iron Man trailer, I figured okay this movie will beentertaining and something fun to see. Granted I love most of the comicbook movies of recent times (except Electra, Daredevil), especially therevised Batman series, and the X-men series and Fantastic Four isgetting better with each movie. Well I guess I was somewhat right. Youcould say I was somewhat entertained but I don't know maybe that wouldbe an exaggeration.First the Bad: Characters we're not developed at all, so you reallydidn't care about anybody except for Tony Starks.Terrible plot. SPOILER: Terribly developed fight scene between IronMonger and Iron Man, which just made me sick. All that build up forsuch a lame fight scene in the end. There was nothing special about it,it was short, and there was nothing to fight for by that point. IronMan could of walked away to fight another day and we (the audience)would've lost nothing. And I know this is taboo in the comic bookworld, but I couldn't really believe that Tony Starks build the suit ina cave out of spare parts, something should've been done in the writingprocess to make it more believable. Also and this part bugs me but maybe I'm overreacting. I thought themovie was way too Pro-American Military, too Anti-Islamic, and thescenes with Afgani terrorists, well they just looked too Hollywood forme. If they were really going to use today crisis in Afganistan as aplot device I would've appreciated if they could've made it morerealistic then just getting some darker skinned actors (clean shaven)and called them Afganistan terrorists. This movie re-enforced so manynegative stereotypes.Okay that was a lot of bad and I did give it 7 outta 10 stars, sohere's the good: Robert Downey Jr.If it wasn't for his quick witty responses and overall comic reliefthis movie would've bombed, because every movie nowadays has great FX(and it was great) you can't really say "the movie was good cause ofthe special effects". Also the comedy by other actors was very funny. Idid laugh out loud a few times. So If you think, like I do, that The new Batman Series is perfect, andX-men series was pretty damn good, and believe that comic book moviesneed depth and realism as well as fantasy, well I would rent this movieonce not expect too much and hope the sequel will be better.

Une production à grand déploiement exécutant une formule bien établie, mais avec un savoir-faire indéniable et un enthousiasme contagieux

The best Marvel film I've ever seen!

This film was breath-taking. Just extraordinary. I enjoy analyzing howthe plot is laid out to the audience and how the character arcs aredisplayed.I give both a 10! The layout was extraordinary! You are introduced toTony Stark/Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr. who's acting for sucha cocky character was done perfectly, and you are instantly told of hisposition (how important he is to society), and you are told of hispersonality nice and steadily. Once Tony makes it back to America weretold how he acts in society and what he thinks of life. All the supporting characters do a fantastic job. It doesn't take along time to realize what the other character's persona's are like, sothey're kind of rushed, but still easy enough to understand whatthey're like. The basic plot is that when Tony realizes that terrorists are using hismilitary products, he drops out of Stark Industres and creates a suitto destroy his other inventions. That's basically it. It's a betterfilm then how i present it. I swear. The fight scene at the ending is entertaining and fun, better than theusual 2-minute trash you'd see in a Marvel Superhero movie.I highly advise people to see this film and to own it on DVD when itcomes out.

A thrill ride tour-de-force

I was commenting about Spider-man 3 earlier, and this film is almostthe antithesis of that. It's lean, slick, smart, and it only has onevillain, and a really well-fleshed out one at that! This is what everyMarvel film should be like.Robert Downey Jr. puts so much heart and soul into this role that Ibelieve it's one of his best roles since 'Chaplin'. He really nails thecharacter well, and his comic timing is absolutely perfect in this one.He realizes that it's his time to shine, and he uses the opportunityimmensely.Gwyneth Paltrow takes one of the more shallow characters in the comicand makes it her own. The chemistry between Stark and Potts isundeniable. She's so much more than a damsel in distress in this one.She plays a pivotal role in the film and is just as important as everyother character in it.Jeff Bridges raised my eyebrows when I heard the casting, but he worksperfectly within the context of the film. His change in look is drasticenough to easily make him the defacto villain in this film. Having saidthat, I didn't quite buy into his turn later in the film, but that'sjust a minor quibble.Terrence Howard knows full well that he will get his opportunity toshine in the sequel, but that's not to say that he phoned in hisperformance as Jim Rhodes. His concern about Tony will start to becomemore and more a center point in the story as time goes on, and it seemsthat Terrence knows he has a role with meat on it to keep himinterested for the long haul. The special effects of this film are absolutely amazing, and I didn'tfeel this way about a man flying since the first Superman way back in1978. We are taken on a ride with Iron Man, and I must say it's quiteexhilarating.I believe that this will be one of the huge Marvel hits of the summer, with the Incredible Hulk showing great promise as well. Marvel Studiosis very deserving of each and every dollar spent to see this film, andI believe that the future looks bright for futurecross-overs/appearances of other Marvel superheroes in other films.Make Mine Marvel!

The combination of its realistic backdrop, boy's own adventure and Robert Downey Jr makes for a blast of a new style comic book hero in Iron Man. Above all, humour is what elevates this highly entertaining fantasy into something beyond our expectations.

Jim Slotek 2012-04-26 06:31:24

It is light, rather than heavy metal, marked by invigorating war-machine FX and a smart and subtle acting performance, at least by the standards of this genre.

One of the best movies - if not the very best

This movie was so enjoyable and well paced. I loved the tension betweenTony and Ms. Potts. Can't wait for the second installment. Everyoneshould see this movie more than once! The computers shown in this moviecannot, I mean cannot be duplicated!! This movie should win a techaward at the Oscars!!! Everything was so refreshed and different.Robert Downey has shown what a great actor he really is! Gwy had justthe right professionalism and smarts to be very attractive. I wassurprised and was reminded what a good actress she is!!! This was aexcellent comeback for her and Robert Downey Jr. I can't wait for thenext installment for Terrence how to don the suit and give his take onthe iron man franchise.

One of the best Comic to Movie, moives............

This review is from: Iron Man (Ultimate 2 Disc Edition) (DVD) Spiderman the director took to many Liberty's with it, the reason how he can crawl up walls and stuff don't get me started on that. The Hulk both of them bite. The Christopher Reeve Superman's ummmm ya. Well the list goes on, but I think that this was one of the most faithful creations of a DC/Marvel comic movie conversion. Yes they did take a few liberty's but it's Hollywood what do you expect.I think that Robert Downey Jr. was a good choice I just hope that he can stay out of trouble long enough to make the sequel they left the movie open for. Lot's of action in this movie some good CGI but yet not a slap you in the face CGI.

macpaul-1 2012-04-24 03:54:18

More or less just the usual presentation…

…of US Army technology (remember "The Hulk"?). In some parts quitefunny, but that's it, except for very good acting by Downey jr. andBridges. If you consider the roots of the figure of Iron Man and lookat the mess they created with this movie you could really cry becausethe figure itself has a lot of potential. In this movie it was onlyused as vehicle for something else. You just have to look at the"symbols" used: Afghanistan, terrorists, USA as the usual stand forfreedom, and so on and so on. Please, Hollywood-Military-complex, giveus a break. If really wanted, one could also do this with anotherstory, take something like "Black Hawk down" and go for it, but don'tconvert a comic figure into a messenger of ever repeated US values andsuch. So: Four stars just because of Downey, without him only three ormaybe even two.

board-5 2012-04-22 11:23:48

Very little to offer, but seems like the director is not so violent.

The fact is a little wonder, that the capital of USA film making usingthe actor Robert Downey Junior, pays for him,I'am personally never metRobert, this is why I don't say more bad things like the fact he'sdialogs are seems like something he says as help for the audience.Logic of the plot is also flawed.Dynamic editing does not help all the time.Action scenes are notdifferent like other big budget movies knows, and digital effects comingin the best scenes, but I rather wanted to see real effects in thatscenes specially.(with some exceptions) I don't want to recommendthis, maybe just for children.3/10

Es una obra maestra

La presentacion de dos discos con dolby digital sourrond 5.1 y la presentacion de la caja muy original .-.-.-.-..-EXCELENTE

keithmwarwick 2012-04-19 23:44:46

Whatever Happened To Originality?

This is a movie of three parts. The first is actually good, the secondnot so good and the third, totally abysmal. It's as if a 1970'sblockbuster has undergone a superimposed makeover, complete withdigital effects, super-imposed actors and dated production values. Thatit mimics so many movies and lacks a cohesive script and dispenses withany kind of respect for the credibility factor, it shows this movie upas a total turkey. With miscast and all-at-sea acting talent thrashingaround amongst the mayhem of congealed stunts, over-the-topcontraptions and poor scripting, this movie is the Titanic of actionmovies. A lot of talent was wasted, misused and thrown away on thisleviathan of bad movie making. And that is a crying shame and afinancial meltdown!

Anya McNaughton 2012-04-19 10:54:07

I was NOT expecting this.

I had seen the trailer, and thought it to be 'just another movie'cashing in on today's trend of superhero films. I was never into thosekind of movies either. However, pretty soon the name 'Iron Man' waspopping up everywhere. In conversation, internet chat-rooms,everything. So, when some people I knew were off to see it, I thought Imay tag along. Just to see what the hype was about... I was quitesurprised when I walked out of the cinema that day. There are manythings that makes this movie highly entertaining - the first, it mustbe said, was the amazing performance of Robert Downey Jr. as the maincharacter 'Tony Stark'. He played the role of rich American playboyvery well. The actual character Tony Stark was someone who I reallyempathized with I felt sorry for him as the movie progressed, forreasons I won't spoil here. As for the storyline, it's very engaging. For the most part, I found it realistic and believable. Tony Starkdidn't have magic or super powers. For me, this was a refreshing changefrom the typical 'bitten-by-something-radioactive' story. Though Ihighly enjoyed this film, I found the beginning quite slow. Whichbrought down it's mark a little. It did take a little while for me tobecome immersed. Secondly, I felt the character Obadiah Stane(antagonist, played by Jeff Bridges) could have been explored a lotmore. However, these minor points pale in comparison to the high pointsof this very fun film.
