On the outskirts of Riverton, The Safest City in America, a pensive Inspector Gadget sits in his Gadgetmobile, along with his canine companion, Brain. Gadget is back on the job, on stakeout, but he is concerned that everything is too quiet in Riverton. He has a very simple, rational answer to this its always the most quiet just before criminals strike. Evil must be afoot. In a moment of overzealous crime fighting Gadget arrests an elderly women for wreckless driving, but not without incident. In his effort to make the arrest Gadgets many crime fighting accessories go wildly astray. Its time to report back to headquarters for a checkup. Baxter, the Q of the Police Department, delivers the prognosis - as he is a prototype things are bound to have some glitches. The remedy is close at hand. But, before Baxter can tell of his new top secret, Gadget is confronted by a furious Chief Quimby. The little old lady arrested earlier for wreckless driving turns out to be Quimbys mother. Gadget is put on notice - any more mistakes and he is on probation. Meanwhile, in the dead of night, and in a raging storm, something happens that will change Gadgets destiny forever - his arch enemy, his nemesis, Claw makes a daring escape from Riverton Prison. Now, evil really is afoot. Chief Quimby offers Inspector Gadget one last chance to redeem himself through the capture, and return to incarceration, of Claw. And so the chase begins.

Movie Photos:
We have taken some photos of "Inspector Gadget 2". They represent actual movie quality.
WOW, and I thought the original cartoon was good! Folks, if you haven'tchecked this movie out, it's about time you do. In this laugh-out-loudfollow-up to the 1999 movie starring Matthew Broderick (Deck the Halls,Family Business), you get to witness the true example of an outstandingsequel.French Stewart (The New WKRP in Cincinnati, Home Alone 4) stars asInspector Gadget, and I must say that he pulled off the role muchbetter than Broderick. His performance was downright wacky andentertaining - he captured the essence of the true Inspector Gadgetcharacter so well. It's sad that you don't see much of French Stewart in the movies thesedays. His on-screen presence could surely liven up some of the morelackluster movies Hollywood has been churning out lately, such asAvatar. Still, I'll take what I can get, and I'm just crossing myfingers that Inspector Gadget 3 comes to fruition and he gets thestarring role once more! If you're as serious about film as I am, doyourself a favor and rent Inspector Gadget 2 - you will not bedisappointed. Go-go-gadget-VIDEO STORE!
I have hit an all-time low. I have rebooted my film lifestyle. Prior to watching "Inspector Gadget 2", I was willing and absolutely able to watching anything that came through the system. I was up for any low-budget feature, no matter what country of origin, I was up for good, the bad, and the ugly, AND I was even up for those direct-to-home features that make nearly every cineophile shudder. This was my life, up until about a week ago. I found myself trudging through both "Inspector Gadget" as well as the cartoon voiced by Don Adams, and the direct-to-Disney sequel, "Inspector Gadget 2". It was after this viewing that I eliminated all the upcoming films in my list, opened a fresh page, and started from scratch. I am going to begin (after I finish watching "The Longest Yard" remake and original) watching more classic, foreign, and contemporary independent films. I want to bring the level of control back and impress those with more of a knowledge than whom was a better Inspector Gadget, Mathew Broderick or French Stewart - alas, friends, I do know the answer to that, and I am not proud enough to shout it on the highest mountain. It is embarrassing that I have to nominate one "Inspector Gadget" film over the other, but a critics work is never done. I have no favorite when it comes to this franchise, I have no favorite when it comes to stories that completely demolish the structure of the cartoon of which it is based. In closing, I have no favorite at all when you have two films that are only connected by the titles they share."Inspector Gadget 2" is possibly one of the worst sequels to dawn the direct-to-DVD call tag at the bottom of the box. Using nothings from the original film (not the same characters, not the same style, not the same comic timing), this film is one that you have to watch alone, not standing right next to the original Broderick vehicle. French Stewart (he is always squinting ... why?), with the aid of director Alex Zamm try to bring the original concept back the the series without any known budget. Stewart brings a new Inspector to the film, a more arrogant, snobbish, seems to be tormented by life, protagonist that cares nothing for those surrounding him. He is a character that we cannot love, no matter how many times we have to sit through one viewing of this film. What is interesting about Stewart is that he is actually closer to the the animated Gadget than the original. Zamm also tries to create a Dr. Claw that is closer to the original - but the trouble occurs with the fact that the two share very little screen time and thus there is no real chemistry between the two. Claw used to always monitor Gadget's doings, in this one, there seems to be a haphazard care as to what either is doing. Penny still doesn't have her book and Brain still isn't getting anyone out of trouble. Where is the consistency here? Too add to the mix, we are introduced to a new character "G2", the newest upgrade to the Gadget line. Like anything this riddled with clichés, there is an initial problem with the two of them, but eventually a spark misfires and Gadget is introduced to yet another love interest. Considering the problems anatomically with this couple, there is no further spark between them. The only reason the two are put in a this film are to be together, not for any other purpose. There is no sense of individualism, just flimsy cause followed by an effect that could have been predicted before the opening credits ended."Inspector Gadget 2" has not seen the best reviews, nor will it get a good one from me - it tried, but ultimately it failed. There was no purpose to create this erroneous sequel. Disney was hoping to cash in on the Broderick fan base, the younger generation that knows no better , or just to make some extra dollars to pad their bottom line, but there was no reason to resurrect this already problematic series. I hated Elaine Hendrix's mesh between "Robocop" and "Judge Dredd". She was funny at parts that were not meant to be funny, and chokingly bad at parts that were meant to draw sympathy from the audience. Perhaps it was the writing, or the campy way that it was filmed, or the cheesy ploy to get audiences to laugh, but this sequel just left me out to dry. If I had to speak positively about this film in any way, I would have to comment on the CGI which did improve a bit with this lower-budget film. I thought the idea of "freezing-time" was a fun concept equal to what Claw would do, but again, we seemed to lack the spunk and originality of the cartoon. I would never consider this franchise a remake of the cartoon, but instead their own unoriginal spin-off.I blame Disney a bit for this film because cutting corners and cost is not an excuse for making poor films. If Broderick or even the horrid Everett could not reprise their roles for this sequel, it should have just stopped there. Don't push a circular peg into a square hole, but instead we continued to push and found cheap replacements for the original. This is a very kid friendly moment that if I were 3, would probably find visually entertaining, but from a company that prides itself on making Oscar-worthy animation, I expect a higher level of distrobution. French Stewart should stop working while he still is remembered for his humorous work on "Third Rock from the Sun", while the rest of this cast shouldn't even bother with another feature. I think it is bad enough that they couldn't even get Cheri Oteri back, cause, you know, she's expensive. Overall, I have to say that "Inspector Gadget 2" is a blunderment of a film, and the one star review that I am giving it is generous. There is no need for these types of films to enter into mainstream cinema. It dulls the senses for those hoping to find engrossing cinema out there, and proves that a mind isn't necessary to watch French in action. As a cinematic community, we have to put a stop to this. Zamm attempted to retain some of the originality of the cartoon, but couldn't compile a cast good enough to bring the humor, form, grace, and talent of the animated series to light. There was no chemistry between anyone, and when the clichés began to cause a horrid avalanche, I was caught with nowhere to hide. As I attempt to think of another film that likens to how poor this film was, nothing comes to mind. So, with that said, I have restarted. You will see me soon reviewing better films where my mind can be used, instead of trash like this were jell-o sliding on a stick would be more entertaining. If I had to end with a thought in mind, it would be this - Claw never showed his face, this can be learned from watching the pilot "Inspector Gadget" where he had a mustache, so you shouldn't be able to see his face in the films. It is simple. It would be like creating the Smurfs live-action where they were a shade of orange instead of blue. You just don't do it. So, when it comes to this film - just don't do it. You will be happier, and no so bitter like myself.Grade: * out of *****
My family and I loved this film. It was funny, outrageous and much truerinspirit to the original cartoon series. We liked it a lot better than thefirst one and thought French Stewart sounded and acted a lot more like thecartoon Gadget. G2 was a nice addition and thought that the romancebetweenshe and Gadget had real spark. The special effects were great and thewholemovie was a fun, wild ride that was really entertaining. Two thumbsup!
Okay, I'm gonna admit it right here and now. I liked the first IG. I knowmost people hate it, but I thought it was a very nice little movie. ButTHIS. This was just plain silly!!Nothing at all made any sense at all. Okay, now I thought in the firstmovie, John Brown/Inspector Gadget got a girlfriend, but WHERE IS SHE INTHIS MOVIE???!!! Second of all, how the heck could a human guy like IGfallin love with a robot??!!! What the heck where the writers thinking??!!!!!How could a human/robot breed with a robot?! ROBOTS HAVE NO REPRODUCTIVEORGANS!!! The whole thing was totally whacked! And IG was just annoying inthis movie!!! He was nothing but a smart-aleck know-it-all who was stupidand totally unfunny. Sheesh, what in the world happened to him after thefirst film?? And I hate what they did with Claw. How come in the firstmovie, he talked normal, but in this movie he has that wierd robot voice. Also, how come he turned into an old man? WHAT THE HECK WAS GOING ONHERE??!!!!Overall, this movie was just dead awful to me. It made no sense at all.Thispiece of crap gets a big fat, 1/10!!! Once again, I apologize to "TheSecretOf Nimh". This movie, along with MST3K's "Invasion Of The Neptune Men"wereworse.
Sure it had its funny moments but come on.The only person who came back was the voice of the car.AND THEY EVEN HAD TO GIVE THE CAR A NEW PAINT JOB!Does anybody think its freaking wrong that a human falls in love with a robot? And this Baxter guy,Brenda Bradford was the one who started the gadget program and now this Baxter guy comes along out of NOWHERE and they say he was the one that started everything? And why tell gadget about this amazing thing that will solve the glitches but it wont solve HIS glitches? And these glitches, there was only one glitch in the original movie, when ever he called for oil he got toothpaste, but now he cant get a single gadget to work without calling it out at least 5 times. These would have definitely appeared before.A single chip would not solve the glitch problem,it would have had to do with the way he was built. And if these chips really would solve the problem then why not make the same chips for gadget and give them to him?And claw, back to the old cartoon ways of never showing his face.YOU DON'T GO BACK TO THE OLD CARTOON WAYS AFTER YOU ALREADY DECIDED TO SHOW HIS FACE IN THE ORIGINAL MOVIE!They changed the entire film's attitude. It just isn't right. And that line by Penny."How bout crime always pays.(password accepted)NOT ALWAYS CLAW!!"what was that? The dumbest line in gadget history! And gadget became infinitely dumber. If they make a inspector gadget 3.Unless it has all the original actors from the first movie(exept sykes because he gave up crime)I would never go see it.Gadget proved himself once to the chief, why should he have to prove himself again? No wonder this movie went straight to dvd, because it would have done AWFULLY in thearters.
Yes, it's just a live-action version of a less-than-memorable cartoon, but a lot of care and imagination went into the look, special effects, direction and acting. At times, "Inspector Gadget" is charming, and it's always fun. Kids will love it, and adults will enjoy it too if they pay careful attention to the stunts and animation.
I thought the first part was great I even enjoyed watching it with my son (3.5 years old), but this one was lame. None of the original actors were in it and I don't blame them. My son could barely finish watching it. The plot is too difficult for kids to follow and the great gadgets from the first film are gone. Do not waste your time or money on this one.
I'm sorry but this movie was HORRIBLE. THe first Insecptor Gadget was great but this was is trash. The story was crap, the visuals were cheap, it didn't even have the same actor. What happened to that doctor from the first movie, anyway? This movie is a piece of CRAP!!!!!
I really enjoyed watching this. There are 2 Inspector Gadget movies, the first one was made in 1999. This is the second one, but it doesn'tcontinue from the 1st since it is a different director and it wasreleased straight to DVD. This film is an alternative to the secondfilm. If you didn't like the first film and wanted it to be more likethe cartoons, then this one is for you. I liked both IG movies. Thisfilm introduces a new robot - IG2. The movie has an entire differentcast, and Dr Claw's face is hardly ever seen like in the cartoons Nicespecial effects too, with a cartoon-like "let's stop the bad guys"ending. I find it funny and enjoyable.
If I could take this movie and make it my own Id be so happy. I cantbelieve something this godly could have been made. If we hadswitched french stewart with gary coleman or fabio I would haveliked it much more. But I still faint with pleasure after I see it. Ihave20 copies of this film and I rotate them. i love butter. I feel thismovie is incredibly under rated. every one who had something todo with this movie should be worshhiped as a god! i get a specialfeeling every time this movies comes on.The directing and gaffin isoutstanding. there is know cast has talented as this one. the soundof music does not even compare to this hot piece of work. I feelthis movie is on fire. Its hot baby Its FLAMING. I would like to thankmr william robertson and all the crew for such a wonderfulfilm.
Wow the sequel turned into a nightmare. It was such a budget cliched piece of garbage what torture for the viewers. Oh dear this is a good lesson for people making sequels to pretty decent and o.k movies to begin with: DON'T SLAP ON A SCRIPT IN 30 SECONDS WHILE ON THE INFLEUENCE Of ALCOHOL OR nARCOTICS!!! Why are films getting worse and worse these past years. people must be on serious budget cuts to resort to horrible scripts lousy acting, poor actors for the role making the movie. And a mindless story like this one that should be locked in the Disney Vault forever never to be seen again because it doesn't fit into the category as "Entertainment" and should of been left as a comic strip for people to laugh at for it'll make anyone gag with stupidity!!!!!P.S what happened to the old cast members in IG1 they were better!!! the new actors made the sequel a stinker bring the old actors back!! *movie designed for kids under 3 for 1. cheesy acting and predictableness in everything 2.lackof good actors 3.kiddy and cheap looking visuals and situations
this movie is really boreing. i have watched pokemon and digimon movies and compared to this one the look like the best this on earth. this movie stinks beacuse they make it look so fake with him and the other robot. the mayor is such an idiot. you would be better off renting the first one rather than watching this garbage.
Inspector Gadget 2 (2003, Dir. Alex Zamm) Still in the police force,Inspector Gadget (Stewart) is reduced to sitting around. Aftercapturing Claw (Martin), all the criminals have gone into hidinguntil Claw escapes! Gadget thinks he will get the case, but everyoneelse has other planes. A new version of the Gadget project is unveiledin the form of G2 (Hendrix). Strict orders are given for Gadget to stayaway from G2 and every crime scene, but Gadget feels he is needed morethan anyone.Tries to make the film similar to its animated show but ends upcreating a film which is more disappointing than the original. The CGIeffects are terrible, many plot holes from the first film areunanswered and French Stewart fails to capture the same qualityperformance that Broderick achieved as Gadget. You can't fire me. I quit!  Inspector Gadget (French Stewart)
Good overall ! Could use some work but it made my daughter happy-and that can be hard !So-It gets a overall average or so rating !
I saw this for the first time on the weekend, and while it's not really as bad as some would have you believe, it isn't that great, either. To start with, it's hard to equate Matthew Broderick's Gadget, with the character played by French Stewart. Broderick put real life into Gadget, where Stewart played Gadget purely as a 2 dimensional cartoon character for 90% of the movie. The only time he came to life was near to the end, when Claw kidnapped Penny. Just for the record, I thought that was a nice throw-back to the original cartoon. Penny was forever getting caught by MAD agents, though she was usually rescued by Brain, and not Gadget. The emphasis on the glitches in Gadget's circuitry was a little confusing. In the cartoon, the so-called glitches were usually his gadgets doing the thinking for him. The Inspector was such a lame-brain (and I mean that in the fondest way) that he inevitably called on the wrong gadget for whatever situation he was in. So whenever a gadget popped out that was different to the one he called for, you could be fairly sure it was the right one to do the job. In this movie, the glitches were just that - glitches. And then, there's Claw. Rupert Everett did a fantastic job of playing Claw in the first film. It didn't matter that his face wasn't hidden, as was the case in the cartoon. It was pointless that they tried to do that in the second film. Aside from the shockingly awful voice, what they ended up with was an 'evil' version of Wilson from Home Improvement. It was just plain sad, given Everett's deliciously wicked performance in the original.I'm not totally sure what to think of Elaine Hendrix's performance as G2. I suppose it was fine when you consider that she is basically supposed to be an emotionless android who slowly comes alive as the film progresses, but how can you feel anything for a character that is little more than a piece of wood for most of the movie? Like French Stewart's Gadget, she only came alive towards the end of the film, and by then it was too late. There are positives to the movie. Unfortunately, there just aren't enough. One is the fact that Penny is given considerably more importance in this movie. In the first, she was more of a sidekick than anything else, and that rankled the hardcore fans quite a bit. The special effects were okay, but I'm afraid that's all I can say.As an Aussie, it was interesting to see two Aussie actors hamming up the roles of Chief Quimby and the Mayor (Mark Mitchell and Sigrid Thornton, respectively), but even they didn't give the film much of a lift.As another reviewer commented, one blessing was that the voice of the Gadgetmobile was the same. Unfortunately there just aren't enough other redeeming features to save what could have been a wonderful movie.
Wow. I had no idea a movie could be so awful. I mean I've seen the EdWood movie Plan 9 from Outer Space, but this was just one of those"Areyou F*%king kidding me" movies. I mean why did they even bother makingthis if Matthew Broderick wouldn't come back. If Ferris Bueller won'tdo it, there's probably not to much promise in it. About the movie, whydidn't any of the criminals just smash the G2 robot-thing, I mean howhard can it be to whack her in the head with a lead pipe and wrap herup with some chains then tear her apart with crow bars. Why did theyneed to replace Inspector Gadget anyway, oh yeah, so they could atleast have something to make a sequel about. Bad story gone worsedescribes this whole thing.
I couldn't wait til this movie would finally be released and when I gotit for my birthday I couldn't wait to go home and watch it, but afterseeing i felt like i wasted my aunt's money. Elaine Hendrix is probablythe best actor in this entire movie. She does an awesome job as G2.Caitlyn Wachs does an okay job filling in as the role of Penny. HoweverFrench Stewart does an awful job as Inspector Gadget. There are partsof the movie that are funny and good. Brain is one of the cutestbeagles you will ever see and Inspector Gadget's car is so funny. Andthe bar scene made me laugh a little. However this isn't the movie Iwould recommend but what the heck give it a chance, you may like it.All I know is that i didn't.
Inspector Gadget 2 is a Disney direct-to-DVD sequel to the 1999 feature film of the same name and based on the classic 1980's animated cartoon series. French Stewart(3rd Rock from the Sun)steps in for Matthew Broderick as the bumbling cyborg super cop who is teaming up with a female Gadget named G2(Elaine Hendrix) to thwart Dr. Claw and his M.A.D. agents from taking the city of Riverton under siege. D.L. Hughley is hilarious as the voice of the Gadgetmobile and the CGI special effects was cool and enjoyable to watch. The special features includes a behind-the-scenes look of the movie, deleted scenes and bloopers, and trailers of other Disney favorites like George of the Jungle 2 and Atlantis: Milo's Return. Inspector Gadget 2 is one of the best Disney live-action films by far.
the stupidest movie everThere is not one good thing to say about this movie.it stinks it stinks it stinks it stinks. And it doesnt smell goog either
And to think that a sequel was made. I was expecting better. The firstInspector Gadget was great. Matt Broderick and Rupert Everettdelivered. This was a pathetic follow-up. They replaced Broderick withFrench Stewart, who did a rather poor job. They got rid of JoelyFisher's Brenda Bradford and replaced her with a poor rendition of StarTrek's character Data. Dr. Claw is back, but not portrayed by RupertEverett. Instead, we're given a villain who is attempting to go for thegold and plans on ruling the world with it all. Not original. ANYVILLAIN WILL GO FOR RICHES AND BE INTENT ON THREATENING THE WORLD WITHSUPPOSED SUPERIORITY! The only actor that was brought back was D.L.Hughley, who voices the Gadgetmobile. However, modifications were madeand did not make that particular character as entertaining orinteresting as in the first film. Michelle Tratchenberg is replaced bya kid who wishes to tag along as a overenthusiastic sidekick. Theanimation, special effects, direction, photography, and story were allunoriginal and pathetic. If I'm being harsh, it's only because I likedthe first better. If they make a third film with the same kind ofstuff, I don't recommend it for anyone who's looking for a good time, the same with this film.0/10
