One of my favorites

The first time I seen this masterpiece I new it was a great movie.Everything about this movie spews out horror and not a lot of movies dothat now a days. This movie brings the horror film back to its roots,good bloody gory fun that in this movie is helped along by some twistedlooks on how horror should be. Its one of my favorite horror movies andabout the only one I can say that is even close to late release that Ilike enough to write about. I guess If I were to compare it to someother ones Id say a movie like 28 days later maybe, its really on parwith it and 28 days later is a great movie, great great. This moviereally deserves to be up there with all the other great horror movieslike the ring, the scream movies and all of them. You will not want tomiss this if your any type of horror fan and if your a B Horror moviefan then this is the best movie you could possibly imagine watching.

Holy s**t the nuters have taken over the nuthouse and they are hungry

Before I saw this film, I had no idea what this film would be like but this film has turned out to be a fun fast and gory film, not a bad way to spend an 1hr and 25mins of your time.The film is about a man, who cons his way into a mental hospital, to break his sister out of there, but something bad is going on inside the place, a mad doctor is using his patients as lab rats and turning them into bloodthirsty killers.This film is fast and has some nasty bits in this film, anybody who loves cats, won't like what happens to one in this film,I mean just when you thought the mental patients have been though enough, you get some dumb f**ked in the head doctor turning them into even more crazy nutjobs.So if you want to burn the next 1hr and 25mins of your time, then look no further.

~Spoiler~ When I first saw the trailer for Insanitarium I had no desire to seeit. Then I caught Midnight Meat Train and really liked it. I found outthat the writer of MMT made his directorial debut with Insanitarium anddecided to give him the benefit of the doubt. I now regret that act.Insanitarium is just not a good movie. It's about a guy who pretends tobe crazy so he will be committed because that's the only way he can seehis crazy sister. And wouldn't you know it there is a mad scientist whois experimenting on his patients turning them into brain dead zombies.How many times have we seen this scenario? Nothing new is added andit's not nearly as much fun as the 80's flick Dead Pit (which is a verysimilar flick that I recommend over this one). Let's face it, when anover-the-top Peter Stormare can't save your movie, you are in a worldof trouble.

It deserves one star but Olivia Munn is in it

So I got this thinking it was going to be a run of the mill "DisturbingBehavior" I'm crazy but not really film. Part of that is true, its afilm. This film is hard to describe. It begins with a very briefintroduction to our hero Jack's plight, in which you find out thatJack's sister has been put in an asylum for some reason other then theright reason. Jack hatches a zany plan to get himself committed so thathe can enter the asylum and rescue his sister. This is a fairlystandard b movie plot and how can you blame them for trying to ride thesuccess of Prison Break. The movie pretends to have a plot until thepoint that Jack enters the Asylum. The audience is quickly introducedto the mad scientist running the facility and its population of nuttyinmates. The mad scientist has created a "nano" serum that has asimilar effect to "rage" in 28 days later. Like 28 days later, thismovie is zombie flick but you'd never know it unless you actually satthrough the first half of the film. Unlike 28 days later, this film isnot enjoyable to watch. Imagine taking plots from several differentawesome films like 28 days later, disturbing behavior, and theAndromeda strain blending it together and then taking out any elementsof a plot and you essentially have insanitarium. I gave the film a twobecause Olivia Munn is in it and if your an AOTS fan then maybe you canfast forward the film to the parts that she is in to get a glimpse ofour favorite host stabbing someone in the face. If you're not an AOTSfan and or don't know Olivia Munn leave this movie to the the abyss ofbad b horror films.

Welcome Home, Instanitarium!

In a world that has strayed from the path of family values, Insanitarium reminds us what is really important in life. Jesse Metcalfe gives a performance "beyond his years" and portrays his character with "utmost realism." This star-studded cast "cleverly reveals plot twist after plot twist." Around each corner a new challenge is revealed and our main character, our hero, must confront these twists, growing and becoming "more complex" with each. This film is an "instant classic" and a "must watch" for any film buff. Insanitarium was brilliantly shot in hand held digital giving the film a realism that only "Stage 6 Films" can achieve. The soundtrack is minimal yet "utterly captivating." If you haven't taken the 80 minutes to watch this film, you are missing out.

Prison Break- the low budget horror movie

A girl goes insane and is institutionalized. Her brother decides to gether out by getting himself committed as well. But strange things happeninside. Some of the patients have changed iris color and are ratherviolent. One of the nurses sympathizes with the brother, a nymphopatient is trying to get him into trouble in more than one ways.As it turns out some of these patient with the gray iris in the maximumsecurity area go completely nuts at the sight of blood. They turn intoanimals. The good Dr. in charge (Peter Stormare, from...Prison Break)is developing his own compound that he thinks will cure all mentaldisease. His sidekick, a pretty female Dr., goes along with everythingthe Dr. does.When the sister is about to injected with the substance, the brotherand a fellow institutionalized guy decide it's time to get her out. Butby then all hell breaks loose. The patients turn outright intocannibals and for some silly script-required coincidence, our group ofheroes has to continuously run through the dangerous maximum securityarea. Of course the brother knows everything about electronics,building layout, etc., he can disarm any security device with a kickand playing with wires.Overall, this movie has the right idea, but goes through all theclichés. It looks good although it is evident there wasn't much of abudget. Perhaps they could have put some money into better use byhiring less extras. There's some gore but little horror.

Cannibal feast in a mental hospital.

After his mother died our hero Jack was forced to have his sister Lillycommitted to asylum because she began to struggle with suicidalthoughts and became a danger to herself.In order to get close toLilly,Jack fakes insanity to get committed to the same asylum.DoctorGianetti,who runs mental ward,created a new drug called Orpheum whichturns crazies into cannibalistic killers with the urge to butchery.Theplot of "Insanitarium" is routine and silly with tons of cornyone-liners,but this has to be one of the goriest horror films I haveseen during last few months.The acting is pretty decent and the bloodflows in spades with severed limbs,impalements and decapitationspainting the screen red.Overall,"Insanitarium" has enough goods torecommend it for fans of blood-drenched horror.

He's not sick; just a little less engaged.

One key factor in good horror flicks is some nudity. Another keyfeature is lots of blood. In this case we get both. A real schizo witha penchant for sex covered in blood and looking for more action.Yippee! Add to that a mad doctor (Peter Stormare, who is perfect in therole) who turns his patients into flesh eating zombies, and horror fanshave something to root for.There is even a Nurse Ratchet, and a Hannibal Lecter in the film, asthe director attempts to pay homage to other horror films.As you might expect, the central character is Jack (think Cuckoo'sNest), who gets himself committed to find out if his crazy sister(Kiele Sanchez) is OK. Jack (Jesse Metcalfe from "DesperateHousewives") soon finds out that things are not OK, and joins with Dave(Kevin Sussman) to get his sister out.Loved the ending!

WOW................

This movie is SOO gory! And a little disturbing. (I.E. Cat scene). The acting was good. It moved a little slow in the begining then sped up and let gallons of blood fly. Entertaining movie. Worth a rent or cheap buy.

Impressive

I've seen a lot of horror movies, but this film gave me an unsettlingfeeling afterward, something I hadn't felt in years. The plot beginswith a brother desperately trying to find his sister. He cuts himselfup and starts shouting violently at a park, in order to get arrested.He gets thrown into a maximum security area which is a wonderful set.He soon discovers an experimental drug given to patient is turning theminto cannibals. The result is gruesome, the patients who have "changed" are sliced withmeat cleavers, knifes, and many other sharp objects. Not too mentionfalling down a shaft. There is a monster at every turn, leaving theviewer in constant anticipationThis movie has the longest zombie chase scene I have seeing.making itworth a watch.

It was alright

OK, forget the realism you are looking for. Its a zombie movie. Ain'tno realism in there. Just like all the other zombie movies.The first 20 mins I really liked. I think it would have been a coolidea to have him committed and then the movie go from thecrazy/mad/psyche kind of view, ending up along the lines of... maybe heis really crazy. But no, they went the zombie route, which was finewith me too, just they could have made this into a ...really maybe heis crazy kind of movie.Overall, this was a pretty good movie, definitely not for the ones thatdon't like blood and guts spraying everywhere, a few scenes of nudity,a corrupt guard, and an even worse doctor running the show, makes for afairly entertaining movie.Don't take it too seriously, if you are looking for a regular movie,with a not so Hollywood ending, then this one is for you. This isdefinitely not a Romantic Comedy that you would want to sit down withyour wife/girlfriend/partner/significant other with.

A very good psycho thriller.

Insanitarium is the best b-movie I have seen ever, and I'm deadserious, no pun intended. The film's strongest point was the storyline.Executed perfectly, not your usual cliché' "kids break into sanitariumfor lol's." A young man cons his way into a sanitarium to see hismentally-ill suicidal sister. It is very interesting and grabs you fromthe start, from here, the movie just roars uphill.Insanitarium's death scenes will leave gore hounds, like myself, cryingin awe. Some of this stuff was really awesome. (Ex: Arm broken and tornoff.) This is a very well crafted movie and is worth your money.8/10.

PASSABLE HORROR FARE

Insanitarium has one of the more inane plots you'll ever see in a horror film, which in and of itself is quite an achievement. Jack (Jesse Metcalfe) is trying to see his sister who has been committed to a mental institution. When the hospital refuses to let him see her, Jack decides to get himself committed as well. He cuts his chest with razors and walks onto the streets raving like a lunatic. As if on cue, here come the police and the ambulance that just HAPPEN to take him to the same hospital where his sister is. How's that for luck! Once inside he meets the head of the hospital, the creepy Dr. Genetti played by Peter Stormare. Has Stormare ever played a part where he wasn't creepy? Jack soon learns that Genetti is conducting experiments on the patients and injecting them with an experimental drug. Jack is determined to find Lily and get her out but when he reveals his ruse to Genetti and his staff, they think he is even more nuts and are not about to let him go. Jesse soon leans the horrible truth about the experiments. The drug is turning the patients into blood-thirsty maniacs (well, even more maniacal than normal) and he will have to try and find his sister and escape with an entire hospital full of flesh-eating psychos on their tail.Insanitarium is a rather dumb movie for the first hour or so. This is a rather large hospital and yet you only see one orderly and one nurse, who seem to work 24 hours a day. The orderly has one of the patients sneak out of his room at night to steal pills for him. Umm...wouldn't he have easier access to them, what with having a key card and all? To top that off, he has regular sexual trysts with one of the patients and Jack is able to just sneak around the hospital by walking under the cameras in the corridors. Great security! But the last 25 minutes saves the film from being horrible as it essentially turns into "28 Days Later" inside an asylum. The inmates go on a killing spree, killing and eating anyone they can find including each other. Insanitarium features a ton of gore and some gruesome kills including machetes through the back of a head that come out of the mouth, arms torn off, stun sticks shoved down throats, etc...The climax finds four survivors on the run from the lunatics and it's the most exciting part of the movie. Olivia Munn of G4's "Attack of the Show" has a co-starring role as a nurse's aide and she does quite well. Armin Shimerman (Star Trek DS9) has a small role as one of the maximum security crazies. The performances in general were all good although Stormare tends to overact and chew scenery in every film he's in and it's no different here. Stupid script but it has some exciting and terrifying elements.

whatever -- I liked it!

This movie is a riff on genre flicks like Shock Corridor and Dawn ofthe Dead. The lead character's name is Jack (Cuckoo's Nest anyone?).Also, anyone who casts Peter Stormare as a "mad scientist" obviouslygets the genre... from "Fargo" to "Constantine" to "Insanitarium".Awesome.So there's an awful lot of blood. That didn't bother me so much and Ihad to block out some of the really nasty bits but there seems to be asense of humor running through the film that some of those bitchycritical movie nerds seem to be missing. This is a movie that relishes the genre. The guy's last name is Romero(as in George A.) for God's sake. And the crazy guy is called Loomis(the doc from Halloween), plus a Hannibal Lecter guy and a Nurse Rachetguy...If you don't know classic b-movies you might miss the point but if youdo you're gonna have a blast.

A crappy zombie flick with no substance

OK, I can admit that this film tried to be good, but it failed on somany levels. While watching it, I felt like it was ripping off a wholegrip of other movies, including Silence of the Lambs (there's even aHannibal Lecter wannabe!), 28 Days Later (noticeably the camera-workand soundtrack), and a little bit from Boogeyman 2 (which was also acrap fest). There are a lot of other familiar scenes too which I knowwere jacked, but I don't have time to recall. Throw in a generic smartand nerdy sidekick, a crazy woman who gets naked, and the madscientist, and there you have the whole movie. The gore scenes werestupid, not even tastefully done. And as soon as the secret is out thatpeople are eating each other, the script goes completely to poop. Theactors literally go crazy and try so hard to be bloodthirsty zombiesthat it just adds up to a gigantic mess on the screen, border-lining onhilarious. There are also a lot of cliché one-liners, such as stickinga knife in someone's face and saying "Here's your present!" withattitude. Corny as hell, right? Overall, this movie does nothingoriginal and is a giant yawn-fest with gore and boobs. Rent at your ownrisk.

really awesome movie!!!!!

This movie is well made and has all the great trappings of a cult classic! The characters are well drawn and the action never lets up from the onset. Jesse Matcalfe is super hot and Peter Stormare is totally insane. A great combination like peanut butter and jelly or Tango and Cash.I think this new director guy will be one of the most influential directors of our generation. He's a visionary. Keep your eye on him. My son Rocco really loves his work.BUY THIS DVD!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

One of the worst flicks I've seen in a long time. A stolen plot fromTV's Prison Break that even features actors from the show! Instead ofprison it's an insane asylum and instead of saving his brother it's hissister.Shameful rip off with some incredibly poor acting. The rest of the"Plot" is stereotyped from every bad crazy people exploitation movieever made -- including the sex crazed hunny with giant implants.It's an insulting mess.If if was done in a campy sort of way, perhaps there would be somefunny moments to capture our interest, but it's not.It's done as a straight forward horror movie and it simply doesn't workin the slightest.Stay away at all costs!

Not convincing ... but entertaining to certain sense.

I don't understand why the leading actor think like ... I must get intothe institute to "save" my sister? I don't get why on earth suddenly hegot the keys to open the doors of highly secured level? The few secondsthat I am most "UNCONVINCED" is when "the man contained inside the cagebreak the arm of the girl"??? How easy an arm to be broken??? Iunderstand the flow of the plot needs to be bloody RED, but I think itcan be shown in some other ways convincing. If you take it easy to it,it is quite entertaining because we (with my friends) really laughabout some scenes, and to us, it became a kind of comedian soap operakind as the film run through the end, then we looked at each other withlaughters. Conclusion : many spaces for improving in "directing &producing".

Cannabilism, experiments, and loyalty!

I loved this movie. It does not disappoint, all the blood, gore, insane doctors, and mental patients who stay loyal even through being eaten. A must for any horror fan!

Insanitarium

I did not like the corny macho lines from a Scharzenegger movie as thehero kills the crazy cannibals, but this is a small problem because itdoes everything very well and is much much better than many moreexpensive horror. The actors look like they had a good time playing thepatients in the hospital and they make an excellent job. The bad guysdo not try to be too real, but take it seriously enough not to end up aa silly comedy. I like this.I think the director loves horror movies and watches them a lot. Iexpect he is very happy with this movie, and I like this also. I willwatch out for this guy.Many modern ( and old) horror movies have some great scenes but have somany bad ones that the result is not good when you watch it alltogether. This is not true of Insanitarium, the story an old one but agood one and moves along fast. It is also very bloody with a crazyfinale that tells you this is not a Hollywood type movie.In summary, Insanitarium is not original, but it is very entertaining.I give it 8/10.
