Lt. Tuck Pendelton, an American pilot, takes part in an experiment where he is miniaturised inside a submarine-like craft and is to be injected into a rabbit. The bad guys try to steal him, and the machine, while he is miniaturised, and eventually he ends up inside Jack Putter, a hypochondriac. This film borrows ideas from the classic Fantastic Voyage and Steve Martins All of Me.
`Innerspace' is a great eighties comedy adventure that although looking dated by modern film offerings, still has plenty of action to keep you watching. Following Tuck Pendleton who is miniaturised and inadvertently injected into the body of Jack Putter, who is then chased by the `baddies' who want to steal the technology, this film is set up for lots of exciting chases and twist and turns. This also features Meg Ryan as the love interest. It is worth watching the film for Martin Short's (Jack) performance alone, he is a hilarious physical comedian and it is a shame we never saw him in more films of that era (other than in `The Father of the Bride' and a few other low key movies). The effects were great for the time and still stand up to repeated viewing even now. You get lots of cheesy eighties dress style, music and script ideas but this is still fun viewing for a lazy afternoon and has lost none of it's charm. Well worth a watch.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.
Martin Short is priceless in this movie - I enjoyed every minute.
I saw this when I was younger, has some kinda goofy moments but it's a terrific story. Just watched it again with my wife and she liked it and she hates sci-fi. Good date movie. Good sci-fi movie. Excellent shots of the inside of the human body. I don't know if some of them were real but it looked 100% realistic. Excellent considering it was done in the 80's. Martin Short adds some goofiness to the movie but oh well. Lots of fun.
This movie offers perfect entertainment. The main characters and the performances by the actors are very goodand comical. The movie is filled with some crazy 'not-so-everyday'characters and the villains are deliciously stereotyped and highlyentertaining and there are some simply hilarious moments throughout themovie. The movie can be described as an adventure science-fiction comedy.Surely the movie will not be remembered as one of the best of all timebut I will always remember this movie as a very entertaining one and ofwhich I have some very fond childhood memories. The nice 'unknown' musical score by Jerry Goldsmith is very good, Iactually watched this movie in honor of his death the day he had died,on 21 July 2004.As long as you don't expect a masterpiece and merely want to beentertained, this movie is perfectly recommendable. Also very watchablefor the entire family.7/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/
This review is from: Innerspace (Amazon Instant Video) Martin short is annoying, the movie was funny. I was surprised that it was made in the 80's, it feels more modern.
This movie is not good because it has no story, at least that would have been understandable if it was funny and believe me this movie was not funny. The reason for the three star rating is that there were a few jokes that were worth laughing at but I think it was still bad. If you like this type of movie then go buy the DVD but there are plenty of funny movies to buy.
This is maybe not the best that Steven Spielberg has done but it's damned good! What makes this film unique is that it's science fiction but none any of the clichè themes, which are space travel, time travel, or alien visitation. The only negative that I would have to say is that it isn't available on DVD!
An enjoyable enough sci-fi comedy in which Dennis Quaid plays ascientist who's miniaturized and launched into the body of MartinShort. Think of it as a goofy, screwball version of "Fantastic Voyage".In comedy style, it's actually somewhat reminiscent of the SteveMartin/Lily Tomlin vehicle "All of Me", in that Quaid is able toinfluence Short's physical movements. As you can imagine, this resultsin all manner of physical comedy antics, but if you're going to go thatroute, you could do worse than placing the proceedings in the hands ofMartin Short, a gifted physical actor. The special effects were quite nifty for the time, and won the film anOscar.Grade: B
This movie has a lot of elements to it and it strangely worked for me.I do not think it was a super success at the box office, but for me themovie was a very funny film. I do feel this one is more of a comedythan action or science fiction as Martin Short steals the show as theguy who ends up getting Dennis Quaid's character shot into hisbuttocks. The story, a group of scientist have invented a shrinking rayand they have used it to shrink Quaid's character and a ship to supersmall size. They aim to inject the ship and Quaid into a bunny, butsome sort of attack occurs and he ends up injected into Short'scharacter instead. So the rest of the film is the group that attackedthe scientist coming after Short while Quaid tries to figure out a wayto get big again. There are some interesting scenes of the insides ofShort, though one has to wonder why they would have a device to attachto the inner ear of the bunny as I do not think you can talk to abunny. The eye part though makes sense though. Another thing that makeslittle sense is the dude with the hand attachments, seems like acharacter that should be in a James Bond movie or something. I knowthere was a character exactly like that in a movie that was sort of aGet Smart movie called "The Nude Bomb" or something to that extent. This film though for the most part worked, especially when it was beinga comedy.
If nothing else, this movie's plot is actually pirated from old sci-fi, rather than the new (Matrix, anyone?). The visuals are very good, but the most enjoyable aspect was the superb acting. There are plenty of side-splitting moments where the comedy is achieved with sensibility rather than slapstick. A must-see, although in the later times this has become sort of senseless.
This review is from: Innerspace (Amazon Instant Video) After all these years I still love this movie. It always surprises me what great movies are on Amazon. This movie has everything...action, adventure, romance and comedy
This review is from: Innerspace (DVD) Martin Short and Dennis Quaid are great in this film. Short is funny as usual, although, you either LOVE him or HATE, usually there are no in-betweens...with me, though, it is totally LOVE! It will make your night, a fun lovin' 80's flick!
I really love this movie, it's one of my favorites. It is a sci fi movie about a man who has to be put in a scientific experiment gone bad. This movie is very interesting the whole way through and I would reccomend it for anyone looking for a great time.
Besides particular types of fashion, music, and television, the 1980s also contained its own unique movies. In a typical 80's movie (whether it be comedy, action, or drama) there is the roguish, dashing young man who is the film's hero. The hero is down on his luck, is in trouble with his girl, and is forced (usually out of necessity) into the most dangerous mission of his life. The hero has become an anti-hero and he hates it. He sees no way out but to do what he does best. However, something bad happens and the hero finds himself in a jam where he can't save himself. Ironically, he has to rely on a bumbling fool to come to his rescue. In doing so, the fool rises above himself, becoming a hero in the process. The plot is as old as time and Shakespeare used it over and over. Nevertheless, it wasn't until the 1980s that American moviemakers really delved into this age-old concept. In this regards, INNERSPACE is a typical 80's movie. You have the fallen hero (Dennis Quaid), his estranged love (Meg Ryan), and the fool that saves them both (Martin Short). There is also the usual dash of bad 80's clothing and techno rhythms. However, INNERSPACE is not a typical 80's movie. Much of the plot is taken from the sci-fi classic, THE FANTASTIC VOYAGE. However, INNERSPACE takes the idea from that movie to a whole new level. Not only that, but INNERSPACE is an action-comedy, with a little bit a romance tied it. There are a ton of movies that try to pull a combination like that off, but very few are as succesful at it as INNERSPACE.
This film is one of the all time classic comedy films that just are notbeing created anymore. I was born when this film came out and i firstwatched it when i was 5 since then i have seen it every so weeks and itnever gets boring. The cast itself is truly amazing, but the best actorin the film Martin Short is the best character and makes the film funnyespecially the scene when he is in tucks apartment and he is dancingtruly priceless. I do not see why people criticize the special effects, at that periodof time in 87' these effects displayed in the body scenes would havebeen the most advanced in any film of that time. In my opinion whenpeople say there should have been a sequel why?? there is no need thisfilm should stand out as a true classic.check it out if u haven't already 7/10
This review is from: Innerspace (DVD) had fun watching this again after twenty years, all the grandchildren are going around saying one liners from this movieif you haven't seen this it is a must see for Martin Short fans.
This review is from: Innerspace (DVD) Innerspace is a classic from the 80's. Dennis Quad, Martin Short, and Meg Ryan unite in this modern day 'Fantastic Voyage' to make this a must-see movie. It's definitely one for your whole family.
This review is from: Innerspace (Amazon Instant Video) Love the 80's movies! Could not resist watching this one! Martin Short can't help but make you laugh!! Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan FUN For about an hour and a half I was 25yrs Younger!
Talk about a movie that is gross as hell. Going inside someone elses body is pure grotesque. I can't believe someone would waist money on a lackey like this one, it even won an Academy Award?!? I don't know why people think that going inside someone elses body is a cool thing, that would be my hell. This is the one of the worst movies ever made...
This review is from: Innerspace (DVD) FUN COMEDY. GOT LOTS OF BELLY LAUGHS OUT OF THIS, AND IT STILL HAD SOME MORE SERIOUS PARTS TO THE MOVIE AS WELL. GREAT ACTING.
