Extraordinary teen John Smith (Pettyfer) is a fugitive on the run from ruthless enemies sent to destroy him. Changing his identity, moving from town to town with his guardian Henri (Olyphant), John is always the new kid with no ties to his past. In the small Ohio town he now calls home, John encounters unexpected, life-changing events-his first love (Agron), powerful new abilities and a connection to the others who share his incredible destiny.
This review is from: I Am Number Four (Amazon Instant Video) I thought the story line was pretty original. I felt like it had a lot of potential to be a great movie, but it fell short with the villains. Good weekend watch, but not a "oh my goodness, i need to watch this" movie.
If you knew you were next in line to die could you stop it? When JohnSmith (Pettyfer) realizes that his number is up he begins to receivestrange powers. After learning to harness the powers he hopes he isable to fight off his attackers. I had pretty high expectations forthis movie going in, and was kind of let down. It is almost a mixbetween "Push" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". A little better thenboth, but overall a little disappointing. It's not that it's a badmovie, just one that you really have no firm opinion about when it'sover. That said, my 12 year old son LOVED it. This movie is gearedtoward the young teen crowd, although like the "Green Hornet" there isa lot of swearing for a PG-13 movie. The action is no worse then thelatest group of teen movies, but the swearing did seem more prevalentin this one. Overall I say this movie is just OK, but kids will reallylike it a lot. I give it a B-.Would I watch again? - I don't think I will, but my kids will.*Also try - Push & Sorcerer's Apprentice
When i saw the trailer for this movie i was not sure if i would like it or not. But i am the type person to give a movie a chance because i just love movies. So in short, this movie is a let down in every way. The story centers around Number 4 and his protecter, as they constantly are on the run from.... some other... aliens, because...well...who know why but that is the plot of the movie. Number 4's power consist of having flash light hands, and jumping really high...whooo. The first half of the movie is the best when he arrives at his new school and of course tries to lay low. Unfortunately the big bad bullies will see that the new guy will receive his just deserts..for..being...new.. i guess. Then Number 4 falls in love with a girl at his new school and is willing to risk everything for love, but the movies gets real Twilight after that. I am not just saying that because there is a love interest plot, he says things like: "Once our kind loves another we love forever." Even though they have know each other for two days. I think that Edward and Number 4 should fight to the death for stupid love movie supremacy. The aliens hunting him are a joke, and i much prefer the cliché bullies to the cookie cutter aliens. Guess what the aliens want....THEY WANT TO RULE THE WORLD!! Imagine that aliens who want to kill everyone and take our planet. The fight scenes sucked, and that was the part i was really looking forward to, but again fell short. In a nut shell if you love yourself stay away from this average, seen it been there done that movie concept.
SPOILER(: I am not a huge Sifi person but this series is the best youcan get! Of course it's no where near as good as the book but gofigure... It won't ever be! Its one if the page turning thrillers youcan't put down. I have read all four book by "Pitticus Lore" (I amNumber Four, The Power of Six, I am Number Four: Lost Files: Six'sLegacy, and I am Number Four: Lost Files: Nine's Legacy.) I am a diehard fan and can't wait for the next books release! I have researchedand researched the topic and I feel confident I know pretty mucheverything to know about the series... Anyways if you haven't read thebooks I would suggest reading them really soon! I am Number Four: LostFiles: Fallen Legacys comes out in July and The Rise of Nine comes outAugust 21, 2012! I love the books and I think you will too(; Thebiggest difference in the book and the move is Henri's death. I thinkJohn, Number 4, and Six should end up together and have kids torepopulate Loren! Enjoy the books and movie! I know you will(:
I can't remember having actually walked out of a film before, but anhour into this film and I couldn't stand it any longer, even when thenasty aliens caught up with the good aliens. I appreciate that I amprobably not the target audience (not being a 14-year-old girl), but tome it has all been done before. It's Twilight with aliens, with alittle bit of the Lightning Thief thrown in. Cardboard characters andwhiny teens just don't do it for me, I'm afraid. I presume the femalecharacter trailing the hero catches up with him, but she hadn't afteran hour and I got bored watching the interminable angst.Go see it if you're a Twilight fan, otherwise almost anything else istwo hours better spent.
didnt know much about the movie except the very few and short trailers i had seen. what a great movie from start to finish. i was on the edge of my seat during most of the movie and found myself wanting to fast forward the movie to see what was gonna finally happen. i highly recommend this movie if you like suspense/thriller types. buying the ble-ray right now.
This review is from: I Am Number Four (Three-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) This blu-ray would be good for teenage girls and the family in general. Teenage boys may enjoy the last part of the blu-ray which features extended action and "fighting the aliens and monsters" sequences. There is NO sex with a little mild language so the whole family can enjoy this movie. However, it is a little more violent than your typical Spiderman film. For example, when someone gets killed, he disintegrates into dust, vanishing into the wind. And two large monsters fight, with the winner mauling the neck of the other, who also disintegrates into dust. The extra bonus feature hightlights the dynamic Teresa Palmer, the Australian actress who played number six, but I was mystified that there was NO bonus feature on the handsome Alex Pettyfer, the British actor who portrayed number four. I was also surprised that there was NO bonus feature on the beautiful Dianna Agron, who was the love interest. Since Ms. Agron plays the pretty chearleader, Quinn, on the TV series, "GLEE," I thought that it would have been nice if there were a bonus feature with her in it; it would have pleased her TV fans.
This review is from: I Am Number Four [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) A surprise hit!!! My entire family enjoyed it, despite mostly all 4 of us were uninterested when we rented it!!! Pleasantly surprising how much we loved the characters despite the high schooler vibe, overused and overplayed like in most PG13 movies, this movie had a deeper spin on it . Bought this blu-ray through amazon, it works great and the shipping was super fast! Great movie, highly recommend!!!
Since, "Harry Potter", is done and the, "Twilight Saga", is coming toan end, Hollywood has been trying to look for a Book series to be thenext, "Harry Potter". Michael Bay and D.J. Caruso (Director of,"Disturbia") adapt the book, "I Am Number Four", but they failed. The movie is about a teenager named, John, who is alway's moving withhis Guardian because John is an Alien and an evil race known as, TheMogadorians. He tries to keep his identity a secret when he make's newfriends and fall's in love.Pro's: The Special Effect's were good (Like I said before, Michael Bayproduced this). I only found the character, John, a good character.Con's: The film was really boring. The character's were flat andboring. Also, there was a huge plot hole in the movie: What was in thebox? John said his father gave him a box and he never opened it. Thewriter's should have put a scene where John opens the box."I Am Number Four", is just a boring and bad movie that's not worthwatching at all.
This review is from: I Am Number Four (Amazon Instant Video) That was one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. It had everything, romance, comedy, aliens, action, great special effects, etc. It was everything I look for in a good movie.
At the start, you aren't really introduced to the characters very welland it jumps into the story line before you can really feel any emotionwith/for the characters. However, once you start to learn more aboutthe characters you begin to become more engaged with the film to thepoint where you don't want the film to end because you're so intriguedat what may be coming next. However, some scenes are a littlerepetitive and it's easy to predict what may be coming next. Also, some characters you don't know whether you feel like you shouldlike or dislike them because they are helping the main character at onepoint then contradicting him the next. The romance which the maincharacter picks up also seems a little forced and fake so when theyhave to part it doesn't really bother you that they're parting. In conclusion, I believe the film was a good watch and I wouldrecommend anyone to watch it.
I will start off by saying that I did not see it in theaters... whowants to pay $10.25 for a movie that could potentially suck? Not thisgirl. Anyway, my friend bought it yesterday, we watched it, I loved it,and I watched it again today. And I DO NOT like to repeat moviesespecially the next day! Alex Pettyfer is like smoking hot in thismovie and I believed his performance, Dianna Argon and his romance wasvery believable (helllooo last kiss before the movie ends, I even feltthe lust) The minute Tim Olyphant came on screen I was like really thisguy? But I liked him in his role as Henri. And Teresa Palmer wasawesome. I've read about 5 of the reviews below me on this page and itinspired me to contribute. One was being very critical about thedetails and blah blah blah. Number one bro, you aren't a film critic,so stop being all crazy. Number two, I hate a movie that gives you awhole bunch of nonsense details that don't even MATTER. Yeah, we knownothing about his past expect his people were killed by the Mogs who bythe way are gross and may not be scary but Jesus they are not pleasingto the eye, and if I saw one of those dudes coming at me with someflying monster I'd be scared as f*ck. Number 3 most movies put outthere today are predictable, I can 95% of the time figure out how amovie is going to end 1/2 way through. You shouldn't go into watching anew movie that you know nothing about with these ridiculousexpectations about what it should be. The movie was kick-arse, theacting was great, the action scenes were pretty cool and if you watchthe bonus features you would FOR SURE be like damn I could never dothat, kudos to them. I think they really did a great job. And the dog
This review is from: I Am Number Four (DVD) The film does a reasonable job of adapting the novel to the screen. It is not a blockbuster, however. The novel contains some really descriptive battle scenes, and CGI could have brought them to life much better than this film did. Also, the details of the box, and the orb that reveals the nature of their home galaxy, should have been included in the film. It leaves a big gap for subsequent films to overcome or fill in. I am looking forward to the next novel in the series, but have doubts if the number two and/or three will ever make it to the silver screen.
Who is number four? The first three are killed shortly after the movie starts, and in the rest of the movie we watch John Smith (Alex Pettyfer) with his guardian (Timothy Olyphant) try to blend in and survive. Any romance? Sure, John Smith gets tangled with Sarah in high school, and that complicates everything. This is a light movie, and you have to suspend your logic and disbelief. In some ways it reminded me of X-men series of movies. The movie ends in such a way that there is a possibility for a sequel. One more thing: John Smith punishes the bully and his thugs in high school and gets the girl. I also liked the number six with her special abilities. The special effects look cheesy, but who cares, it is an entertainment. It is a mindless light movie to watch at your own risk! :)
Yeah - that's her.Anyway, I liked this movie more than most of the recent releases. The story is interesting and it keeps moving along. It's you basic alien teenage boy meets girl movie with some fights so that the guys don't fall asleep in the theater. This isn't a spoiler: I'd hate to be number 10 because those tattoos look like they hurt. And where would you fit 9 of them.My wife and I both thought that this was a good movie.
The Plot is weak and the screenplay struggles to sustain interestclose to 70 minutes this is what happens in the film- john trying tocontrol his super normal instincts in a high school [ which includessaving a boy bullied by his peers in school],living an anonymous life and the issues of falling in love with a humangirl. This is an all too well known a plot. The mogadorian commander and their villainous acts do not evoke anysense of seriousness in you as an audience, Its a weak plot with weakscreenplay and a vein attempt to make it interesting by specialeffects.
I Am Number 4 is Hollywood's latest start to a new franchise. It isbased on a novel by Pittacus Lore (a pseudonym for James Frey and JobieHughe), who has another six books planned. The story surrounds John(Number 4), an alien teenager who struggles to keep his true identitysecret whilst living on earth. Problems arise when alien enemies beginto kill his kind, beginning with 1, 2 and 3. The film, like the book,is specifically catered to young adults. Clichés abound in this mildlyentertaining sci-fi thriller. All characters are right out of everyteen film you've ever seen. The bully jocks, the pretty yet quiet loveinterest, the nerdy kid, and the overly protective father figure areall there to keep young audiences feeling right at home. Alex Pettyfer(Stormbreaker and the upcoming Beastly) definitely has the looks thatwill have the ladies swooning but his acting still requires some finetuning. He doesn't bring enough charisma or emotional range to hischaracter. Timothy Olyphant (Hitman, The Crazies, Deadwood) solidlyplays John protective father figure but doesn't really have much to do.Dianna Agron (Glee) does a good job playing the love interest andAustralia's Teresa Palmer (2:37, The Sorceror's Apprentice) over actsher tough as nails heroine, Number 6. Apart from the formulaictreatment, the film's story unfolds unrealistically and many things gounexplained. The main love story develops overnight, his power's arenever really explained, and the 'bad guys' are bad - why? Of course, the fact that they plan on making more of these films means they'll(hopefully) have some explanations ready, but that doesn't make any ofit less frustrating. The climax by far has the best parts of the film. The action is exciting and the special effects are quite impressive. The film would have been better with more action and less teenmelodrama. Less picky people will probably enjoy this film. It works assimple entertainment and there is some mindless fun to be had.
This review is from: I Am Number Four (DVD) This is an excellent movie. It has a lot of action and suspense. I wanted the movie to end differently. It left me wanting more.
This movie has some decent effects and had the potential to be good but it fails to deliver. It plays out like a poor Twilight knock-off using an alien instead of a Vampire.
The first thing you need to realize is that after 4 comes 5. Not 6! But then again, who wants just another guy in this flick when you can have a girl on a motorcycle. But, I should get a part in the sequel, which should be rightly called, "I am Number 5" and well that would be me.This film, apart from my absence was quite entertaining. Number 6 seems to be a lot brighter and more versed with her powers than Number 4, who seems to be more distracted by an earthling girl that's into photography. Henri's (Timothy Olyphant) performance is about the best in this film. He adds a certain level of seriousness to the film, and without this character, a lot of depth would have been lost. The Mogadorians, who are the bad guys in this film, add a nice spark of humor to the film, they are like just so weird. There is also a group of football players that Number 4 gets to try out his powers on, the special effects are well done throughout the film. This film may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I still feel that has a pretty good entertainment value.
