A delightful family film despite the rating

This review is from: Hotel for Dogs [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I am one of those 'mean mommies' that does not allow anything not rated 'G' into my house where the tender ears of my 5 and 3 year olds can pick up on things they shouldn't. So my first reaction was to filter this movie without a second doubt. But my children snuck in and it had them mesmerized within 5 seconds. I was pleasantly surprised at hw much I enjoyed this movie as well as my boys.Though the humor in the movie went over my kids heads, it was neither too raunchy or racist. It sends a subliminal message that science can be cool and I really appreciated the strong message it sent about how much work and time goes into owning a dog. As someone who has volunteered in animal shelters, I have seen too many dogs dropped off by people that weren't ready or didn't do enough research.Any movie that is family friendly and can keep my kids sitting the whole time gets 5 stars in my book. And I will face the (tickling) wrath of 2 kids if I don't rate this movie 5 stars for the cute dogs. (Especially the pug and poodle since we are owners of both!)

ADORABLE

NOT ONE SWEAR WORD IN THIS MOVIE!!! THANK YOU-GOD!! Completely appropriate-- A MUST SEE!!!Took our 10 yr old son to see it and we all enjoyed it thoroughly! The dogs were so cute and we were quite impressed that the actors did not have to use profanity to make their point! We would grade this an A

Okay, but not great.

Took my 14-year-old son, my 11-year old daughter and my [censored] year-old mother. (All three dog lovers.)My son was bored, my daughter and mom liked it.The movie had some cute moments, but it wasn't as good as some reviewers are giving it ... certainly not a classic.Definitely good for kids from 6-10. Nice to see a movie that doesn't have obscene/sexualized jokes.

Nice concept; few suggestions for possible sequel however

I'll admit it while I'm writing my review that I'm an animal lover. Whoisn't, right? Especially where the main characters are dogs."Hotel for Dogs" tells the story of two young siblings who are orphansmoving from place to place and having foster parents. The siblings areAndi (Emma Roberts from Nancy Drew) and Bruce (Jake T. Austin fromWizards of Waverly Place) who are up to no good as they deceive a pawnshop owner of a box displaying a brand new phone when inside its a rockwhile their dog, Friday, tries to get something to eat while being tiedup. The kids are eventually caught and picked up at the police stationby their foster aid Charlie (played by Don Cheadle) who likes them andvouches for their behavior but doesn't know if he can put up with themany more after their stunts. The kids foster parents are no help either. Lisa Kudrow (Friends) andKevin Dillon (Entourage) play the dead beat foster parents whose dreamgig are to be singers and perform in front of a large audience and liveoff the rock n' roll life instead of worrying about the kids and beinglike "normal" parents and give them their needs.Things change for Andi and Bruce after their dog has gone in thestreets later to be taken to the pound where the animal control treatboth the kids and their dog with disrespect before freeing the animalafter Andi bribes the head guard. They later run from the cops in fearof being frame for a crime they didn't commit where their dog hidesinside an abandoned hotel building where other dogs occupy the place. And then it hits the siblings that a hotel should be created for thestray animals just before recruiting a few more people including a guythat Andi has a crush on and yet he doesn't know her secret about beingan orphan.I liked the concept of "Hotel for Dogs" where stray dogs can stayinside a hotel without wondering the streets; the innovated gadgets area riot showing the techniques for dogs to use the restroom along withrecreating a dining room for both the humans and dogs to eat. It'sharmless fun and something for the family to enjoy. If you're an animallover, you should love this too.As I mentioned, if ever a possible sequel were to take place or a spinoff, how about "Hotel for the Homeless Humans?" Huh? Sounds catchywhere two young siblings use an abandoned hotel to help homeless peoplefind shelter rather than live the streets or having a time limit inother shelters to kick out the old and bring in the new homelesspeople, and they don't even have to leave where the cities are cleanand safe and the kids running the joint might place that in theircollege application.Nice suggestion, huh? Just a quick thought.

The dogs were more interesting than the human characters

Despite how I did like Hotel for dogs, the human characters wereboring.I only liked Andi(Emma Roberts)because she was smart and likablein a mature way,but that was it. The dogs were the show stealersbecause the scenes with the trick performing and how they lived in ahotel were clever and well performed. What I have gotton tired of isthe potty humour because it's been done in so many kids films beforethat I find it gross and unfunny(for example,a scene with the parentsthat fell into a dumpster with dog poo by saying "we're in deep doodoo.").6 stars for the dogs and the female character Andi, but the rest were awaste of time.

Truly Horrible...

The only reason I did not give this a 1 is because I'm sure the bottomend of the target audience, kids up to maybe 5 years old, will like it.However, this movie was truly horrible. I think the problem rests onthe poor acting of the children/young adults and the script. I'm 99%certain the script writers were told "we want to do a movie where thereis a hotel for dogs, make it work somehow." Spoilers follow, none ofmuch consequence. The opening of the movie, with two white kids in afoster home ripping off a store owner with a box containing a rockinstead of a cell phone because they want to buy some burgers for theirdog, is the first blow to the movie's credibility. What kind of moralsdoes that teach, first of all? Also, these kids look way too healthy, happy, and affluent to warrant stealing for petty money. So they don'tlike the dinner their foster mom makes them, so their dog is a strayafter 3 years because these kids are irresponsible, so what? The actingis incredibly bad, the characters about as stereotypical as possible -It's Nickelodeon, what else should we expect? If they had worse fosterparents, or at least demonstrated being more distraught and emotionallydamaged from their parents dying, I'd forgive the stupid stealing bit.The kids act like snobby self-righteous brats throughout the entirefilm. It basically teaches kids that you can act however you want ifyou think your mom and dad don't pay enough attention and cook likecrap, and that even if you are perfectly well off it is fine to breakthe law for petty cash.If you are a dog lover, and a serious one (moderate dog lovers won'tlove the dogs enough to get past story and acting flaws), then you mayenjoy the bits where the dogs act cute. Other than that, I hadperfectly acceptable expectations of a KID'S movie about dogs, and theywere clearly far too high... If the kids are old enough to see this bythemselves, they won't like this movie. If you're stuck taking them, see a movie in a different theater. If they're too young to beunsupervised in front of a screen for an hour and forty minutes, get adog lover friend to take them.

Mildly entertaining, by the numbers heart tugging comedy

Hotel for Dogs is the story of two foster children who adopt stray dogsand find a place for them, as well as filling their need for family, inan abandoned hotel. This is not a terrible movie, but the viewer has seen it all before. There's not much originality here in its typical underdog makes good, love conquers all kind of story. It has some amusing parts, the acting is reasonable, the dogs are cuteand the pacing is decent, but there's really nothing exceptional in it.It's worth a watch if you like this kind of sappy family comedy, butthere's not a lot of substance and nothing that you'll remember in fiveyears.

An Awesome Film!!!

I gave my mom this movie for Mother's day, and we both liked it! The dogs were awesome and cute! Andi and Bruce live with crappy foster parents and try to hide their dog, Friday. They soon find a rundown hotel and give stray dogs a place to eat and sleep. The more dogs they find, the more help they'll need from friends who work at a pet store, and a kid with a police scanner. It was very funny and I highly recommend you let your pet stay at the HOTEL FOR DOGS!!!

Hotel for Dogs is a movie that tells the story of a two orphan brotherand sister with a dog. One day they found a abandoned hotel and decideto transformed it on a shelter for dogs. The movie is good, it has somefunny moments and also some dramatic ones. The plot is good yetpredictable and with some flaws. The cast is decent Emma Roberts andJake T. Austin aren't bad but I think they were a little weak, LisaKudrow and Kevin Dillon were very good as a couple, both were veryfunny and Don Cheadle in a very different role that we have seen himlately more headed to comedy than to drama. In conclusion, Hotel forDogs is a enjoyable and entertaining movie for the whole family and forthose who love dogs.

Funny and Cute...Even for those of us older than eight

I went to this movie because my best friend loves Emma Roberts andwanted to see her in it. I thought it would be horrible, immature andnot worth my money. I came out of the theater smiling and glad I hadgone. The plot line, while somewhat immature, is cute, and the way itis used is excellent. The dogs are hilarious, and the people seem likesome people I would know. Although overall unrealistic everyone canrelate to the people, or remember a dog they knew like one in themovie. It makes one realize how much we love our lovable furrycompanions, no matter their quirks. It is an excellent movie forchildren and adults alike, and it is well worth the price of a ticket, and I would highly recommend it for any child or dog lover. I cannotwait for the DVD.

This review is from: Hotel for Dogs [HD] (Amazon Instant Video) My grandsons and I really enjoyed this movie, and will definitely watch it again. After seeing it at my house, they talked their patents into buying the DVD - we rented it using the Amazon streaming site.

Hotel for Dogs

This review is from: Hotel for Dogs (Widescreen Edition) (DVD) The story of two underdogs helping numerous underdogs and winning after trials that would make an adult quit trying. I enjoyed this family movie and would recommend it for any animal lover.
