We have taken some photos of "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York". They represent actual movie quality.
This review is from: Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York (DVD) We enjoyed both Home Alone and Home Alone 2 - Lost In New York. However, the sequel is very much more violent than the first Home Alone. Our granchildren, ages 5 and 7, kept asking why Marv and Harry weren't dead! Because of all the repreated brick throwing head and face hits, the kerosene rope fire where they fall to the ground from several stories, gasoline in the toilet head dousing and subsequent explosion, the over the top machine gunning of a woman in the TV movie sequence and various other happenings of the same nature, it was no wonder they asked that question! A question asked more than once or twice and, they were serious I might add! Now, I have watched many blood and guts war movies without any qualms and, as a retired Marine with 28 years of service, have seen my share of violence but I was uncomfortable with the repeated level of violence in a movie geared to family viewing! Don't get me wrong, Home Alone 2 was funny and as an adult I understood, but watching through the eyes of my grandchildren I also understood why they asked that question. So, because it had more over the top sadistic undertones than I thought necessary, I deducted one star. ~ The Boss (Mrs. B. agrees!)
A family favorite for many years!! Just a great movie for people from 1 to 100 years old!!! Everyone in my family enjoys this movie!!!!!
A good sequel to Home Alone. How do they keep leaving this kid? Full of funny antics that leave you laughing. It is a good thing that the bad guys from #1 made it to New York just in time to get some revenge while Kevin is there also! Cute movie I can recommend for all family members.
Last time around, Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) was left home alone (pun intended) by his family in a frantic hurry to get to the airport. And to add insult to injury, he had to deal with a couple of bumbling sillies--burglars who wanted to burglarize his house--who went by the name of the "Wet Bandits." This time around, it's more of the same, but with a slight difference: this time, he gets on the wrong plane, and is left to his own devices in the "Big Apple"--a/k/a New York City. The plot is pretty similar to the last one in many ways: Kevin gets into trouble due to getting into it with his older brother, and is punished. He gets fed up with his family treating him unfairly, and in the midst of his angst, wishes that he could have a vacation on his own, without any of his family. The next morning, in a frantic hurry, the family rushes to the airport to go to Florida for Christmas vacation. In the airport, Kevin stops to put some batteries into his small camcorder (which will be largely significant later in the film), and as soon as he lifts his head, his family are long gone. He spots an older guy from the backside who looks like his dad, and therefore gets on the same plane as this gentleman, believing that it really was his dad. Needless to say, he was in for a big surprise when the plane landed.Meanwhile, the "Wet Bandits" (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) escape from jail, and are in the "Big Apple" as well. You know what happens: they cross paths, and these two clowns are looking for revenge. The slapstick craziness that was seen in the last film, is taken up an extra notch, and is made gut-bustingly funnier as a result. (And again, just listening to Daniel Stern's demented operatic-like screeching as he gets his, alone, just slams the wind straight out of me. It's too hilarious!)As for poignant moments, last time around, the "scary" character was an old man who was rumored to be a murderer. This time, it's a homeless woman who dwells in Central Park, and her companions are a bunch of pigeons. These Home Alone films are recommended for anyone with a taste for over-the-top, outrageous slapstick humor, added with a large dose of mischief. Also recommended if you want to bring out the kid in you.
This is a great sequel to the first "Home Alone" movie. This time we haveKevin being lost in New York after getting on the wrong plane. I rememberseeing this movie for the first time at a theater with my family. Many ofthe characters in here are the same including the two burglars, Marv andHarry. Others such as the poor woman who Kevin makes friends with and thehotel clerk played by Tim Curry(who also plays Rooster in the musical,"Annie") are first introduced in the series. This movie had tons of humorand suspense. One part I liked was where Kevin played a gangster video inhis room and some of the staff came over. They were standing out of Kevin'shotel room and thought there really was a man in there. The gangster says"I'll forgive you if you bend down on your knees and say you love me!" Thestaff bent down and said "I love you!" The gangster in the movie shot at awoman and the staff thought he was really shooting at someone in the hotelroom. I haven't forgotten about Marv and Harry. Seeing those two get intoall sorts of new (and more violent) booby traps was okay, but it got to bequite painful-looking. For example, when Marv falls through a hole andlands on the hard cement floor, he turns out to just have minor pains. Inreality of course, that would've killed him. I think that I like this filmbetter than the first one even though it's a bit more violent, but who caresabout the violence. It's only a movie!
Possible Spoilers Ahead!Well, I was only like 7 when this came out so I didn't see this film tillabout 4 years later. I do remember hearing lots about this series so I wastickeled to find find out that Fox was showing it Sunday Night, Dec. 8,1996. I'd taped the original Home Alone, 2 and a half weeks earlier so nowI'd get to have both! 'cuz it was a Sunday night I set up the VCR to recordit 'cuz I'd be at church that night, we had to pick up someone who needed aride too so that would take time. It was dark that night and right as theVRC started taping this film, our car got obilterated by a stupid, drunkdriver on I-464.Back to Home Alone 2! As if Kevin's parent didn't learn their lessonfrom last year, they again lose him! Well, at least they didn't leave himhome. Kevin gets separated at the airport. Not that he minds, the nightbefore he said he wanted a vacation all by himself! Now, he's got it andwhat fun he has in the big apple. After ringing up a huge bill at the PlazaHotel he goes shopping for toys. Now if you've heard anything at all boutthis film you know sooner or later Kevin will meet his pals from the firstfilm. Well, turns out Harry and Marv broke out of prison and are in NewYork. In a city with millions of people what are the odds they'd meet? Inthis film, pretty good! I'm amazed that when they do see him there hardlyeven surprised! And after the beating the took from little Kevin in thefirst film, You would think they would be the ones to scream and run awayfrom that "little bundel of Misery" well, anyways Kevin gets away but helater finds out the "Sticky Bandits" (as their now called) are gonna robthesame toy store Kevin went to. Well, thats going to far right? I think so.Lucky for Kevin, his uncle has an old abandoned apartment nearby. Thisplace is perfect! I'd suppose Kevin couldn't ask for a better place to settraps! Its got holes, paint cans, staple guns, electric generators, gallonsof gasoline and kerosine, tool chests, and all this slimy stuff! Whatensuesmakes the poor burglars wish they had stayed in prison! In the end, thosepoor dudes are dropped from a flaming rope, 4 stories onto a concretefloor, then hit by a dozen paint cans! What pain and anguish! Surely thats a bitharsh, even for burglery and attempted murder (they put a gun to kevins'sweet little blond hair, though we never believe for a second he'll fire!)This is right where I got home from church. A friend gave us a rideback and let us borrow a car for a month (which we needed for our paperroute). So I got back just in time to see Kevin get reunited with hisdisfunctional family and then get screamed at FOR SPENDING 967 DOLLARS ONROOM SERVICE! Great film. Mac just about reached his best in this film (hewas perfect in "The Good Son" which was his last Good Film!) Wonderfulmusicby John Williams as usual and well, All around a fun film to watch and as Ifound out, if your car is on a wrecker being towed to the nearest junk yardit'll put you in a good mood!!!!! Five outa Five Stars.
If anyone loved the first home alone, chances are they like this onejust as much. and i did too. sure, Kevin is getting older, but that isnothing compared to how mad Marv and harry are. And they want revenge. So in the last movie Kevin was home alone, but Santa Claus has done himone better this year. when the family arrives at the airport, Kevingets separated, and ends up going to new york...all alone, on his ownpersonal vacation, which is what he wished for, but that wish soonturns into a nightmare when he has to deal with a nosy doorman, a crazybird-loving lady, and the returning antagonists, Marv and harry, whobroke out of prison. Many directors and movie makers that make a sequel to a film %90 of thetime make a failure. but in this case, no one failed. the original homealone spawned 3 extra movies, this being one of them, the next onebeing a colossal make, the one after that a colossal failure made onlyfor TV. the bottom line, go and see this movie, it is well worth it.don't wait for YTV to show it at Christmas. see it now. right now.9/10
These tapes were of the highest quality and very easily viewed. I have enjoyed these two movies everytime that I have seen them, and I am glad that I purchased them from Amazon.com. A friend suggested that I go online and become a member of Amazon.com and I am glad that I did, since I have purchased other items from your company and have been pleased with everything that I purchased. Thanks!!!!
Home Alone and Home Alone 2 are one of my favorite movies. In fact Ihave memorized almost every line from the movie. There is one mistakenot mentioned on this site. In Home Alone Kevin is 8. In Home Alone 2one year later he is 10. In Home Alone 2 its made clear that its thefollowing Christmas. This mistake has never come up before and Ithought others would have noticed. Also, notice how calm the mother isconsidering her 8 year old is alone. Its amazing that the movie did aswell as it did. It was a great film though. But, I wanted to point outthat mistake with the age difference. How did he skip an age by thefollowing Christmas. Home Alone is a year round film in my house.
This is one of my favorite holiday movies, because it's funny and entertaining and it's not centered around Santa Clause!
This is the perfect example of what makes John Hughes a legend. From the onset, we know we are in for roaring spectacular of epic proportions. McCauly Culkin is at his prime, delivering an Oscar worthy performance. Isn't it every little kids dream to be "home alone" in the big apple? It also has a stellar supporting cast, who could ask for more? What a film. You are missing out if you decline this purchase, and it's truly a bargain at any price!
I really like home alone 2: lost in New York its better than home aloneits better than home alone 3 and its better than home alone 4. thisfilm for me is one of the greatest films i've ever seen. it is the bestcomedy of the Ninetie's and there is no doubt about that at all. thisfilm is a brilliant, one because of the things people get up to in it.now if it was my opinion i would give that ten stars out of ten starsand there is no doubt about that either. it is a bit better than thefirst one if you asked me and ten times as good as the home alone 3 andthe even worse one home alone 4. not every one might think that this isbrilliant but i do. i don't know if everyone else thinks what i thinkbut like i said before different people have completely differentopinions.George Age 8
I found Home Alone 2: Lost in New York better than the first because Ijustlike how they thought about making a sequel, of course the parentscouldn'tforget him this time but in this movie he really wasn't HomeAlone....
This review is from: Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (DVD) An excellent Christmas movie combining the young lad Kevin Collins, NYC and 1990's family life. I especially enjoyed the background of the Plaza Hotel and Central Park. The side story of Kevin's friendship with the homeless pigeon-loving lady Maggie is precious and heart warming. For those who enjoy action, there is plenty with the bungling criminals from the first Home Alone attempting to steal the charitable donations of Duncan's Toys for the St. Anne's charity - and Kevin's determination not to let them! Overall, a wonderful movie - especially for children eight to thirteen....
I remember the DAY I first saw Home Alone (the original). I had been exposed to a NEW comedy, a genuis comedy that allowed kids to be much craftier than adults! That movie paved the way for other greats like "Blank Check" and of course "Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York". I haven't seen it yet, but I love the concept and am quite certain they've done it again!Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) will come out on top - just like he has with his current acting endeavors. You go boy! (I don't really talk like that, but you know what I mean!)
This review is from: Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (DVD) This movie is perfect to follow from the first one. It will have you laughing just as hard if not harder than the first one. I recommend this movie 100% It is also a movie that your child will watch all year round and not just at Christmas. If you buy this one be sure to get the first one as well.
There aren't many movies where the sequel is better than the original, but this is an exception! HA2 is awesome!
I saw a bit of this film on TV as a kid, but didn't know it was "HomeAlone 2". For many years, I thought maybe it was the original "HomeAlone" I was seeing, until last year, when I finally watched thatsuccessful family Christmas movie for the first time and didn'trecognize any of it. I found the original to be overrated, and couldn'tunderstand why it was such an incredibly huge success at the box officeduring its theatrical run in 1990, but at least I laughed at times. It's been nearly a year since I saw that one, and I finally found acopy of "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" to rent earlier this week. Inmy opinion, the original is a mixed blessing, slightly above average, but this 1992 sequel isn't even that. It's basically just average. This year, the McCallister family in Chicago has another Christmas tripplanned, a trip to Miami, Florida. On the day of their flight, theparents, Kate and Peter, once again sleep in and have to hurry, butnobody is left at home this time. However, Kevin, who was the one leftat home on the previous trip, is accidentally separated from his familyat the airport in Chicago, and gets on the wrong plane! While the restof the family go to Miami, Kevin ends up in New York City, and theothers don't realize he's not with them until they have arrived attheir destination! Trying to find him will not be easy, as he is not inChicago, and his parents don't know where else he could have gone!Meanwhile, Kevin decides to make the best of the situation, and managesto rent out a hotel suite using his father's credit card. Unbeknownstto the lost boy, his old enemies, Harry and Marv, have escaped fromprison, and are in the same city as him! Just like the first film, this sequel begins in the McCallisterhousehold, with more unfunny quarrelling in the family, and it'ssometimes a little too mean-spirited. The part where Kevin sees hisUncle Frank in the shower is pretty lame, and it's not the only gag inthe film that can be described that way. The movie continues to be verystraight-faced for a long time, definitely longer than its predecessor, and never does get as funny. It often seems like they were patheticallytrying to replicate the original "Home Alone", which doesn't help. Ithink I consistently kept a straight face until the part where they'vearrived in Miami and Kate McCallister (still played by CatherineO'Hara) faints when she realizes Kevin isn't there. This was the firstof several gags that made me smile, but O'Hara certainly doesn't do asmuch for this film as she did for the original "Home Alone". I cameclose to laughing for the first time when Kevin uses part of a movie toscare off hotel staff members while he escapes, but I don't think themovie gag ever gets as funny as it does in the previous film. I lightlysnickered at the part where Marv falls after entering a home underrenovation, not realizing there's no floor in front of him, but I neverfound any big laughs. In fact, there are hardly any laughs at all, andonly occasional gags that made me smile.Watching this sequel made me think of the "Home Alone 5" joke in theshort-lived mid-nineties cartoon series, "The Critic". I think watching"Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" helped me get a slightly betterunderstanding of that spoof. This movie does show a lot of repetitionafter its predecessor. In both films, Kevin is accidentally abandonedby his family, he's afraid of a certain adult stranger he sees morethan once but eventually gets to know them and befriends them, he putsHarry and Marv through loads of slapstick mayhem before they finallycatch him, and then he is saved by his new friend. Not only is "HomeAlone 2" not very original, it's also not very funny. After the firsttwo films in the franchise, "Home Alone 3" was released in 1997, and"Home Alone 4" in 2002. These films both feature different casts(Macaulay Culkin was obviously too old to star in them by the time theywere made), and the third one features different characters. Thefranchise clearly didn't go in the direction predicted in "The Critic",but since the two later movies both seem pretty unpopular, and areapparently worse than this mediocre second film, I really don't thinkI'll be watching either of them.
This review is from: Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York (DVD) This is definitely a Christmas classic. I love Home Alone (1), and I love Home Alone 2 just as much! Often times movie sequels aren't as good as the original, but that is not the case with Home Alone 2. It's just as good if not better than the first movie. I highly recommend it. Although it plays basically every year on TV, I wanted to purchase the DVD because 1) I could watch it when I want, instead of waiting for it to play on TV, 2) I could avoid watching commercials, and 3) it's edited for running time on TV and I always like to see the full movie.
CONTAINS SPOILERS!!I first saw this movie when I was 8 years old and I thoughtitwas great and as funny as the first one. Just the other day, a group ofmyfriends and I, sat down and watched it and I must say that having grownup,I can see that this movie was not so great as the firstone.Ok, first off...1.Kevin boards the wrong plane and is off to NYC while hisfamily is off to Florida.(Here we go again!)2.Kevin just so happens to take his Dad's bag which is fullofcash and a credit card before he gets on the plane.3.The hotel employees just so happen to let Kevin check in afamous hotel alone. Kevin also views the same black and white "tommy gun"video and uses it on the hotel security when they try to catchhim.4.Kevin manages to think up a plan and blow up an 8ftinflatableclown(in a matter of seconds) and disguise it as his Dad so the hotelemployee(Tim Curry) can think he's with his Dad.5.Harry and Marv break out of prison and just so happen to beheaded toward NYC also where they "coincidently" bump into Kevin whenhe'sin the same toy store the robbers are going to rob.6.Kevin's aunt and uncle, who live in NYC, aren't home for theholidays and Kevin manages to get in their home and set the booby trapsforHarry and Marv.7.Kevin always seems to make friends with adults. Like theshovel man and the check-out lady in the first one and now he makesfriendswith a homeless pigeon lady and the elderly toy store owner in thismovie.8.The robbers happen to fall into Kevin's traps equally andexact like the first movie.9.For this to be a kids' movie, it's pretty violent, thethingsthe robbers go through and especially when Harry(Pesci) puts a gun toKevin's head at the end of the movie.(But of course we know even thoughhewants to, he's not gonna pull the trigger..but it's still prettyviolent)10.Kevin heads to the Rockerfeller x-mas tree, at the veryend, and his Mom is headed there too and that's where they meet and reunite. What a coinsidence!!This movie was a little too silly, a little too violent fortheyounger crowd and too coincidentual!!But all in all, it was a cute sequal that consisted of the whole entirecastof the first movie. I like sequals that contain the people from theoriginalone.I must add that Joe Pesci was the funniest and greatest actorthrough the whole movie!! If it wasn't for him or Daniel Stern(Marv),themovie wouldn't be as funny. Culkin was cute too!!*** out of 5 *'s!!
