This review is from: High Noon (DVD) I am a Nora Roberts junkie, addict, pick an adjective! I have read every one of her books. I'd give the books 5 stars but it would probably be impossible to make any of them into a 5 star movie in 1 1/2 hours. I just 'liked' the movie. I found Emilie De Ravin unbelievable in the role of Phoebe. Her acting in this movie felt slow and hesitant which a police lieutenant would never be. I did love Ivan Sergei as Duncan Swift but was disappointed they didn't elaborate more on his character but as an attractive, romantic, caring, love interest he was very believable.Cybill Shepherd stars as Phoebe's mother who suffers from agoraphobia but her acting also seemed slow and her lines felt just a beat behind where they should have been (I think this may be an editing issue). It made it hard to completely sink into the movie the way I do Nora Robert's books. If you love Nora's books you will probably want to see the movies, I can't get enough of the books, but don't expect too much from the movies. I watched, then went right back to the newest release to get my fix (in book form).
This review is from: High Noon (DVD) I enjoy reading Nora Roberts, especially the ones with a bit of a mystery & was curious to see how the movies were. This one, to me, didn't disappoint. It has the mystery angle - female police detective being stalked by a mystery person, then some Hot Romance chucked in, it also had a bit humour too - just to add to the fun. The actors and their chemistry together was great to watch. All in all, a bit of everything. If you're looking for a girly flick with a bit of suspense - check this one out!!
This review is from: High Noon (DVD) Nora Roberts combines interesting, complex characters, with masterful storytelling brought to life for the TV screen. Truely enjoyable. You won't be disappointed.
This review is from: High Noon (DVD) Loved the book and they did a good job converting the story to a movie. Seller was great also.
The plot was good but the acting was beyond poor, REALLY NOT the best Nora Roberts movie!
**SPOILERS** When hostage negotiator Lt. Phoebe McNamara got under theskin of fellow cop Arnie Meeks on showing him up in how to do his jobthings started to get hot an heavy between the two flatfoots. Thishappened when Officer Meeks was on the scene when a hostage taker endedup blowing his brains out before Phoebe, who should have been calledearlier by Meeks, had a chance to talk him out of doing it.Given a 30 day suspension by his boss Lt. Phoebe McNamara Meeks justcouldn't help himself in taking it out on her to the point where heattacked Phoebe right in the police station stairway, wearing a skimask, almost breaking her jaw. It's later that Phoebe is again targetedby some unseen psycho but by then it's obvious that Meeks isn't theguy. It's someone from Phoebe's past who holds her personallyresponsible for the death, while being held hostage, of someone verynear and dear to him.The film "High Noon" never really takes off with Lt. Phoebe McNamaraand her new found boyfriend lottery winner and bar owner Ducan Swiftbeing stalked by an unseen and deranged lunatic all throughout themovie. The guy goes so far as to gun down young hostage taker Charles"Raz" Jackson just as Phoebe was about to have him give himself up tothe police just to make her look bad.Fantasizing himself to be the late actor Gary Cooper, he even insist onbeing called Cooper by the police, the killer want's to replay theclimatic shoot-out scene in the movie "High Noon" with him, as far as Ican tell, playing the parts of both the good and bad guys in the film. He's also obsessed with clocks-that dominated the 1952 movie "HighNoon"-that he sets his explosives with all to detonate at the 12O'clock mark! The movie ends with Phoebe going against her betterjudgment and using, or having her fellow cops use, deadly force infinally putting the killer on ice, in the city morgue, only after hewas just about to release the people that he was holding hostage! Whatshocked me about this is that Phoebe did far worse then what OfficerMeeks did, not preventing a hostage holder from killing himself, andwhat she had him suspended from the force for!Very uneven crime drama from the pen or typewriter of Nora Roberts witha number of confusing sub-plots, like Phoebe's shut-in mom Essie, thatmade the film even far more disjointed then it already was it that's atall possible.
This review is from: High Noon (DVD) I love Nora Roberts books and I am so glad that they were chosen to be made into movies. I have most of the other dvd's in her series but I was very disappointed in this one. There was so much that was missing in the movie that was in the book. First of all the house should have been a showplace to symbolize her gilded cage. Second off where was Ava the longtime friend and housekeeper and what happened to her brother. They did not even discuss that at all. The part where she was at the cemetary where her ex Roy gets blown up -not Duncan's car. Very disappointed in this remake of the book. I think a lot of the story line was missing that would have added to the movie. That is just my opinion!
NORA ROBERTS'S ''HIGH NOON'' IS A GIRLY FLICK WITH GRIT , MYSTERY , SUSPENSE AND SOME BRUTALITY . A RIVETING FILM . AN EDGE OF YOUR SEAT POLICE DRAMA , MYSTERY , SUSPENSE , LOVE STORY AND A HARDCORE("NEXTDOOR")TRUE TO LIFE PSYCHOPATHIC KILLER . THE STORY LINE FELT REAL AND COMPELLING . SUPER HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR BOTH SEXES . WATCH THIS GRIPPING STORY BETWEEN COP AND PSYCHOPATH . IT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT .
This review is from: High Noon (DVD) Although for the movie "High Noon", this applies to most of the available movies in this series of movies based on Nora Robert's mystery books. I got these for my wife, and..., well...., I like them too!As with many on TV movies (usually on Lifetime and Hallmark), these are much better to watch minus all the commercials. None of the DVD's we've gotten have had any 'extras' of any kind expect for the occasional previews. All have been interesting and of the versions we've seen and read the book of also, they have stayed pretty true to those stories. Overall, pretty people (only the best looking current actors and actresses) following some interesting story lines. Some semi-sexy parts thrown in, a crisis or two and then a happy 'boy gets girl' ending. Whats not to like for occasional entertainment?
This review is from: High Noon (DVD) This is a great movie! If you're on the line about purchasing it...just go ahead. You'll be glad you did. If you like Lifetime movies, you'll LOVE this one!
This review is from: High Noon (DVD) Nora Roberts is a great witter. Her books are great, it's nice to see how the movie plays out. If you are a Nora Roberts fan you will enjoy this movie.
Well...I haven't finished watching the movie, but there are a fewthings bugging me. So, the main character is a cop/Hostage negotiator, right? She isattacked in the stairwell of the police building, after finding a tornup teddy bear on her front porch. The night she goes home, there is aweirdo outside whistling. Her house has no screens or alarm system thatI can tell, and a low porch roof underneath her windows, where someonecould EASILY enter the house. Yet, she has her window OPEN for theworld, the curtains are open throughout the house and she is like,"lalala....oh a guy whistling..." What is THAT about. You do NOT putyour couch underneath windows directly, it isn't safe unless you livein the boonies....you keep your windows shut if you have recently beenattacked and for gosh sake be AWARE of your freaking surroundings. Sheisn't the brightest. Or the director made her not bright or something. And, one more thing. Her child is very young and races to the door toanswer it......how many times do parents need to be reminded that smallchildren shouldn't answer the door...it isn't safe? Especially withwackos after you? Sheesh.Disappointing.
