Surprising in a really pleasant way

I saw this film long ago but i remember it fondly, especially because itnever let me guess what was going to happen next. Not a clue.(Spoiler) I like the naive feel of the script. You keep expecting theworstbut in the end everything is so okay. Definitely a change from the usual,and another reason why this film is so surprising.

It holds up -- like comfort food.

After almost 18 years, this largely underrated little comedy remains a perennial treasure and brings a special brand of joy with every viewing.Ms. Porizkova is always just as gorgeous; Tom Selleck's faux macho narration as unfailingly corny and amusing; the dark comedy about the cat and the food poisoning just as unnecessary and out of place; and the slapstick surrounding the arrow in Selleck's posterior just as forced and, well, funny.Her Alibi is an escape, a return to a simpler time that at this writing is still less than two decades ago. Keep a copy of this DVD in your collection and pop it into the player to lift your spirits on a rainy day.

People of Zee World ...

This movie does not explain The Meaning of Life nor does it try to. It is a diversionary entertainment, and a pretty good one at that! Along the way, it retro's our former preoccupation with the USSR and its Bloc countries. It's fun. Try it, you'll like it! As the Vivid Parrot in Tom Robbins' "Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates" counsels: "People of Zee World, Relax!"

Entertaining mystery-farce with Selleck as a novelistwho suspects a beautiful woman is trying to murder him.Porizkova is lovely in her film debut as the woman.

Great Tom Selleck comedy

This review is from: Her Alibi (DVD) Have enjoyed Tom Selleck since Magnum PI days. Saw this movie years ago when it 1st came out & enjoyed it immensely. Always regretted not buying it then, so was pleasantly surprised when I found it here. Just finished watching it and it is just a funny now as all those years ago.

A simple, funny, and charming little film

A lot of us go through our quite ordinary lives daydreaming about beingthese larger than life characters, so I thought that this story about thissheltered and detached mystery writer, Phillip Blackwood, was quite goodbecause of the funny and endearing way it relates to being adreamer.I'm a big Tom Selleck fan, since his days as island hopping P.I. ThomasMagnum, and I think he was the perfect fit for the role of Phil Blackwood.Selleck is this tall, good-looking dude who looks the part of your typicalhero or action star, but he is able to come across as this almost goofy,nice guy, and I think those are the qualities that make Thomas Magnum andPhillip Blackwood such great characters. The contradictions between thecharacters' physical appearances and their personalities make them veryeasyto like and root for.I liked the rest of the cast too. Paulina Porizkova was stunninglybeautifuland I liked her in her role. The actors who played Blackwood's agent andbrother were very funny in their roles.I recommend this movie. It is lighthearted, funny, and quitecharming.

Good clean fun

Tom Selleck, writer of mysteries, is enchanted by a beautiful foreigner, Paulina Porizkova. Searching for a new spin for his fictional character, this writer finds a plot brewing in the eyes of the alluring murder suspect. In the process he falls in love but at the same time is unsure of her innocence. Will he be the next victim? Their interplay is charming but not sophisticated. This is a simple, fun movie with loads of laughs.

Terrific movie!

This has to be my favourite movie with Tom Selleck where he plays Phillip, a burnt out writer, who doesn't have much to write about anymore until he meets a young Romanian woman, Nina, who has been arrested for murder. Phillip decides to be her alibi and lets her live with him, but he soon starts to doubt her innocence. It's a good laugh.

falling in love

slow paced drama,yet engrossing.There are no loose ends. There is also an element of suspense. At times you just hate the heroine.Credits title song is wonderful

Her Alibi...

This review is from: Her Alibi (DVD) I stumbled upon this one while flipping channels on 08/12/2007. It was 'savaged' by the critics, if my memory serves. 'Her Alibi" isn't half-bad. In fact, I rather liked it! In several scenes, I actually laughed out loud. If you don't take it too seriously, you should have fun with this one. Four stars!!

This review is from: Her Alibi (DVD) Tom Seleck is a favorite actor of ours. Very few movies do we re watch but this is one. It is too funny and it's always the same. We've viewed it for fourteen years and we've just now purchased it for our own movie library. A good laugh has healing values, so instead of aspirin get this movie. You'll be happy you did.

Her Alibi

Being a fan of reading, reading mysteries, and a 'johnny-come-lately' fan of Tom Selleck's -- post-Magnum PI, which I NEVER watched, I really enjoyed this movie. Unlike most critics, I want to be entertained and this movie does it for me. The scenes 'AFTER THE GREAT CASSEROLE DINNER' are among some of the most priceless I've ever seen and the movie is worth viewing, if only for that alone! And, seeing Patrick Wayne with a ponytail as his neighbor, just adds to the fun of it! Of course, I only wish that I could be and look like Paulina Porizkova. Run, don't walk, to get your copy of this amusing movie where the 'bad guys' get battered!

there should be more movies like this

Though not a masterpiece of film-making, HER ALIBI makes for apleasantchange from the violent films that Hollywood keeps on churning out. TomSelleck and model-cum-actress Paulina Porizkova generate some genuinesparkson-screen in this lighthearted comedy/mystery. Selleck does well in therole of a once-popular mystery writer, while Porizkova, better known forhermodel-perfect looks, satisfies as the mysterious foreigner who captures theheart of Selleck.

There are two good things about this movie...

There are two good things about this movie: Paulina and her deep-voicedaccent, and the opening credits. This is a case where an interesting storywas overshadowed by the marketing plan. Why flesh out a story whenPaulina'sflesh can substitute?But, something I hate to admit, I had a good time watching this movie justfor the novelty of watching a gorgeous supermodel say things like "globesofflesh". A guilty pleasure, I suppose.

Fairly amusing "comedy-thriller" but sort of lame at the same time

Tom Selleck is the titular character, "her alibi," who provides abeautiful murder suspect with a false alibi because he believes she isinnocent. However, once he brings her back to his house, he begins tobelieve perhaps he was wrong - and now she is trying to murder him sothat he cannot go back on his word.Selleck's character also happens to be a mystery writer of cheappaperback books so he uses what's happening in his life as a parallelto his story, so at moments throughout the film we hear voice-overs ofthe story being narrated and it's played for comedy (example: Selleckmakes a lot of noise while spying on the murder suspect, then invoice-over he reads a line from the book he's writing and says that thecharacter in the book "quietly snuck up on the girl.").Not a great movie, but it will entertain you.

A Sleeper

The movie is not to be taken seriously but simply as entertainment and as such it is a winner. For all Tom Selleck fans.Oh, almost forgot, Randy Newman's "Falling In Love" just adds icing to this cake of a movie.
