Hellbreeder?

Here's the scenario: You walk into the local video store and you seethe B-Horror section. You think to yourself, "Maybe I'll get a badhorror film tonight and enjoy some pathetic film making." You walk downthe isles of movies and one catches your eye. A movie known asHellbreeder. You think to yourself, "This looks interesting." Welltrust me you couldn't be more wrong. This is one of the worst movies Ihave ever seen. I can say this because I have seen the worst of theworst B-Horror films, from Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space, to theearly 80's Scalps. The plot will remind you of Stephen King's IT; ascary clown that kills little kids. This plot is good for the basis ofa horror film, yes. But what it lacks is any kind of acting, dialog,camera stability, good special effects, and really there is no way totell what is happening. There are actually scenes in this movie thatmade me very sick because of the camera movements. I really do not knowwhat else to say to express my disgust in this movie. So I'll put itreally simply.DO NOT!!! - AND I REPEAT - DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MOVIE!!! Anyone whotells you otherwise should be committed.

You will either love it or hate it.

Okay, I have mixed feelings about Hellbreeder, firstly because thestory was a little confusing and hard to follow. I had to watch ittwice before it became more coherent. Now having said that, it'sactually not a bad film. It would have been much better if it had beenfilmed differently. The colouring was annoying as were the cameraangles. leave the surreal stuff to people who can do it better guys.The acting was good, I LOVE Dominique Pinon and Lyndie Uphill wasinteresting if a little unconventional. The music was well done andhelped to build atmosphere and there were a couple of tense scenes. Allup, a good film that could have been a lot better if the story had beena little more more coherent and if it had been shot in a more straightforward way.

I bought this DVD for $2.00 at the local variety warehouse. The creepyclown cover and quote "he's not clowning around"took my eye with a hopeof either a Horror/slasher or possibly a b grade movie that might havesome laughs.Man was i mistaken. This movie might be OK to see if you had smokedsome wicked herb or taken some acid, though because i hadnt it justmade me angry.The story/plot was not original and the constant use of similarsounding riffs to the john carpenter halloween theme and the ëxcorcisttheme quickly became annoying.Alice witnessed the death of her son or did she? Was it the goodclown,bad clown an evil serial killer or herself? I don't know if thisfilm was SUPPOSED to be open for interpretation if this was thewriter/directors master plan... i don't think it was.maybe i am not really here typing this review and i am secretly in somemental hospital thinking about writing this review?.Overall this film blows.1/10

An AMAZING film in many respects

AMAZING that anyone thought 70's crooner Darren Day would make a scarybad guy by slapping a bit of clown make up on him and forcing him tosay the F word.AMAZING that out of all the lead actresses they could have picked forthe part, they chose one that can't act for toffee, and doesn't evenlook good with her clothes off (with or without the big, fake chestscar which incidentally, brings me to...)AMAZING that the make-up effects can actually be worse than everycheapo 50's horror I've seen, and considering how many late nights I'vehad in front of my old VCR, that's some achievement.AMAZING that the financiers didn't take one look at the script for thisridiculous thing (I dare not denigrate the word film) and didn't runfor the hills.And AMAZING that anyone can give it more than 1 out of 10. Unless youIMDb voters are practical jokers. VERY FUNNY, DUDES!About the only use for it is as a tool in the government drive againstteens taking LSD. You show this in a school campaign, I guarantee 95%of the audience will never touch the stuff. The other 5% will probablytake the DVD home, and watch it repeatedly as a way of getting theirfix without going to the nightclub. At least it's cheaper. But it couldbe infinitely more damaging to their health... 0/10

what the hell

At no time throughout this movie did I know what was happening. It wasa headache to watch and certainly I read on the back of the DVD what itwas meant to be about. NONE of this was conveyed in the film... I waslike what the F%@! the whole way through. Unfortunately I had to watchit all as it was a part of the crappy movie marathon we were having butthis one takes the cake..... it beats EVERYTHING. Why money was wastedon putting this supposed film on DVD I have no idea. All I know is itWINs, OK Pat, you WIN! I thought it would be a laugh to begin withseeing as the catch line is "he's not clowning around" and seeing thehilarious evil clown photo... it was the hardest movie I've ever had toendure because I honestly did not understand any of it. I think theonly people on this planet that would make sense of it are all inmental institutions..

worst film ever

How the hell did Darren Day get any acting part - when I realised hewas in it I was totally put off (if you are English you will know allthat he has ever done or is famous for is poor seaside style singingand dumping girlfriends at the altar), but I still gave it a chance...And it was abysmal.. French Poirot style detective in England? Notchecking up on person at murder scene on the spot and going for a drinkwith them instead etc... It's abysmal.. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.. Avoidthis film or anything Darren Day has attached to!! Bad, rubbish, worstBritish film ever.. I paid £3.30 for it which was £3.29 too much. Ifyou have to watch this film (for example as a punishment in a prison orsomething) shut your eyes and close your ears!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Horrible, not Horror

While watching "Hellbreeder" on DVD, I was really trying to understandwhat was happening on the screen. I decided to stop the movie for amoment and read the cover of the DVD seeking a hint. However, the onlything that I could notice is that the directors and writer apparentlywere under effect of acid or LSD when they wrote and shot the film, andthe images are probably based on a bad trip. This movie is simplyawful, among the worst I have ever seen. There are very few lines, andthe plot is a complete mess. Further, I can not understand why thisflick is tagged "horror" - actually "Hellbreeder" is horrible anddreadful, a waste of time. My vote is one (awful).Title (Brazil): "Labirinto do Inferno" ("Labyrinth of the Hell")

ridiciously obserd, how can such a film director do this to potential viewers by displaying this movie at all!? does not make sense, no visuals, even for 2004!?!?? looks like its been made in 1920's. If there was a lower grade I could rate it i would do so, terrible..just terrible..

Sureal, and beautiful

This review is from: Hellbreeder (DVD) Defineately not a mainstream movie, but brilliant in its own way. This movie is propelled mostly by visual dream like images which are used to tell the story or create feeling or atmosphere rather than dialogue. Where words can't move the story, an image fills the void. And when there is dialogue, it is quite poetic, and at times, tragic. When the main character dreams about her son's murder, she dreams of her angry husband and his parents, and her mother in law shouting "He was my pride and joy!!!"It took me several viewings to fully understand the tragic, erie story, but I will watch this over and over again, each time uncovering a new secret I missed the first time.And this is one of the most beautifully photographed films...it tend to favor different shades of yellow and greens. The cover kind of hints at how it was filmed.I highly reccomend this forgotton and underated film. Don't go into it expecting a clear, direct story, but go into it expecting a beautifully presented story you will want to watch over and over again.

Unbelievably bad.

The lead female's (Alice) son had at some point in the past beenhorribly murdered whilst on the way home. Alice's family blamed her forthe entire tragedy and Alice had gone mad with guilt because she blamedherself.As she couldn't believe anyone could such a horrible crime to a childshe invented an inhuman monster (a clown) as the perpetrator. Most ofthe film is a strange fantasy as I think she's never supposed to leavethe mental institution where she's locked up. Also Darren Day wandersaround symbolising Alice's alter ego, A strong version of herself whocan do what she could not and fight off the monster that murdered herson.This may or may not be the plot of the film, to be quite honest within5 minutes of the film starting you will desperately want to turn itoff. I guarantee you will not care one bit.This is an art horror film with very little script and it's clear theactors are struggling with the few awful lines they do have. The filminstead relies on symbolism to push the story forward. This doesn'twork at all and leaves the audience very very confused. The film itselfhas all the hallmarks of a film that has been heavily altered andscenes/characters removed, I cannot believe that anyone would fund a 90minute film on 10 pages of dire dialogue. I also refuse to believeanyone would knowingly make anything so bad.The only good point about the entire thing is that the lead actress isquite attractive. But that in itself is no reason to watch.

Looked Funny But Soon Turned Sad

Well i always try to find a positive in all movies but this kinda badIt's a very bad movie i for one just lost total interest I couldn'tstay focused on the movie One thing i must say is reading the cover itsounded kinda cool But as cool as it sounded and as funny as the coverwas it was just sad For me like i said i try to find a positive in allmovies But i can't find a positive the only positive is i saw it on DVDSo i had the option of hitting EJECT Because this is just bad but heyi'm sure there are people who may get it I don't though it may be oneof those movies you have to watch twice But i sure won't be watching itagain lol

Could Have Been Worse....

Hellbreeder is yet another killer clown movie. Evil has taken over a small town. A mother becomes consumed with finding the killer of her son.... a killing she witnessed herself. When a stranger arrives in town, horrific murders begin and Alice(the mother) is convinced that this is the same killer and will do whatever it takes to prove it. Some cool gore/bloody scenes and violence. I've seen alot worse. Worth renting for the true horror fans.

Creepy and Unsettling

Hellbreeder is awesome and unsettling the atmosphere is creepy the killer clown is scary when it finally comes on screen the film is really creepy intense and scary from beginning to end watch out for clowns!

what a mess

first thing, there are 3 different distributors for this movie. not too sure why, or if the movie is different, or this is being passed around like a cold. the Gator Home Entertainment moniker is the dvd being reviewed here. this is a story about a killer clown and a mother of a murdered son trying to find it. the editing is a mess, as most of it deals with flashbacks; flashbacks in black & white, flashbacks in color, flashbacks in tainted hues. the movie jumps around so much it is hard to determine the story line. opening credits are like Halloween, a slow close up of a toy clown while credits roll. the acting is indeed wooden to bad. at one point, the main actress calls the clown "nightbreed" and not "nightbreeder" as in the title. in trying to be weird, the director fails. as an independent film, with limited budget, this needed a stronger story line, with emphasis on the acting and not trying to cover it's shortcomings with odd camera angles and excess editing. skip this movie or rent it. with used prices at a penny, i guess a few people want to get rid of this disc.

my god this movie is not worth your time. do not watch this! i felt nothing but boredom whatching this piece of crap, in fact i even coulnt whatch it all. GOOD GOD botom line this is crap pure and simple crap put on film. the ones responsible for this movie being realeased should be shot on sight.

Avoid

This movie is nothing to be psyched about! It was hard to follow,confusing, and just ridiculous to ever put the label "Horror" on it.Something about a psycho woman witnessing her sons death and becomingobsessed with finding her sons killer (and i only know that fromreading the movie cover). Its a waste of time and money, not even bad enough to be laughed at.The only reason the actors could categorized as "good" actors isbecause they had a maximum of three lines each in the movie! The entiretime my head was ringing with some shitty MichaelMyers/Circus/hypnotizing music sh*!...The only reason I rated it a 2 instead of a 1 is because I was putthrough the high school movie production of "Near Death" last night.

What´s the story ? What are they talking about ? What are we looking at ? Who´s this director? What were they thinking ? Probably something like "let´s make people spend their money without seein anything ! ". I can´t consider it the worst movie ever made, cause this "thing", is no movie, this thing doesn´t exist at all, but the worst of all is that it exists.

Tedious and Disappointing

This awful film fell into the hands of my friend recently and I wasunfortunate enough to be there that night as he watched it. Now, don'tget me wrong, I'm a huge horror movie fan. I love both A and B horrorbut this was the first film in years that actually had me screaming inagony in my head. "God let it end!! Let it end now!!!" kept echoingthrough my skull as I shifted uncomfortably while cringing. I couldthink of no other movie that had made me feel so anxious for theending. The plot was disjointed and shoddy and some of the FX wasshady. I normally can overlook those while watching B-movie horror butin this case it all worked for the worse. Steer clear of Hellbreeder.

horror bull

A woman must put her life back together while chasing after a homicidalkiller clown murders her son in this excruciatingly bad exercise intedium masquerading as a horror film.Those of you who hoping for a nice 'killer clown' horror flick will besadly disappointed as the writing/directing team of James Eaves andJohannes Roberts have vastly different plans for those foolish enoughto dare watch this film. Plans that involve artsy camera shots, anundeserved aura of pretentiousness, incomprehensible story-line, andother 'art school film project'-type pitfalls. No suspense, no scares,characters that are hard to give a toss about, & a soundtrack thatrips-off Halloween (and does so badly) are just a few more reasons toskip this film. I saw this on Instant Netflix and i STILL feel rippedoff.My Grade: FEye Candy: Lyndie Uphill gets topless, but it's NOT enough to sufferthrough this travesty.
