Great cast . . .

. . . for the most part wasted. Bill Nighy has about 5 minutes ofscreen time, Robbie Coltrane maybe 10 minutes, Ralph Fiennes perhaps15. Trailing along are Jason Isaacs, Brendan Gleeson, Rhys Ifans andAlan Rickman with perhaps 3 minutes each, David Thewlis with 2 minutesand Timothy Spall with about the same. Helena Bonham Carter probablyhas 10 minutes and only over-acts for 8 of them.Instead of concentrating on this galaxy of stars we spend most of thetime sitting in the mountains with Harry and Hermione suffering a lotof angst or sitting in the mountains with Harry, Hermione and Ronsuffering a lot of angst. As a break from the mountains we get timesitting in the forest with Harry and Hermione suffering a lot of angst,or sitting in the forest with Harry, Hermione and Ron suffering . . .well you get the picture. There is, in fact, so much angst in thismovie it should have been made in Swedish with English sub-titles.The problem with angst is that it's . . . well . . . boring.Then there are things that simply don't lead anywhere - Harry has asnog with Ginny Weasley, but he doesn't follow through. He has a dancewith Hermione (in between spurts of angst) but he doesn't followthrough on that either. OK, this is Harry Potter, so we don't expectshower scenes, but can Harry actually lift his wand? I think we shouldbe told.The "love" scenes may be anti-climactic - but then so are the actionscenes. For example: woman inexplicably changes into a snake - snakeattacks Harry but retreats after (shock! horror!) biting a chair leg.Something funny going on with Harry and the snake - is this anothermetaphor? There is no plot aside from . . . did I mention lots ofangst? The best part of this film: the credits. I didn't think I'd seea film worse than Robin Hood this year - David Yates has directed one.P.S. Why did Dumbledore die? - because he wanted to avoid being inthis.

Definitely this one is the motion picture of the year!!!

Steve cloves+David Yates = Another perfect harry potter movieThis movie is definitely the best movie for David Yates. Though theprevious Harry Potter movie was not that great, Yates carves this oneto a masterpiece. The audience via this movie come to know , thatnowhere is safe and the ease with which the death eaters spot the lead.I bet you really love the intensity in the gripping screenplay. Andthere are more than 3 occasions where many can't stop them from holdingtheir seats. This flick will be even more exiting if you watch in 3d.The key-porting scenes, the snake-fight scene will increase youradrenaline . And you'll be like , "whats gonna happen next!!!!!"Love= Visual effects ,Action , Performance, Screen play , DirectionHate= almost nothing ,except for a stretchy screen play in betweenDefinitely this one is the motion picture of the year !!!!

This are Dark times

Welcome back to the magical world of Harry Potter, one that began withwonder and joy, but has since become shrouded in death and darkness.Still visibly distraught from the death of his mentor Professor AlbusDumbledore, Harry is now tasked to continue with the mission of thelate Dumbledore- to find and destroy the remaining Horcruxes (accursedobjects containing fragments of Voldemort's soul). It doesn't get anyeasier, since Voldemort is nearing the height of his powers, and hisbidders have infiltrated the bureaucracy to paint Harry as a wantedcriminal. The acting was fantastic. The trio plays their charactersexceptionally well. Emma and Rupert was outstanding in my opinion. Asfor Daniel, well lets just say, those two has outshines him this timearound. Peter Mullan's Yaxley was a very standout character, BillNighy's Scrimgeour certainly look like a lion, Helena's Bellatrix wasmenacing and torturous as ever, Snape was being himself like he alwaysis, Lucius and Narcissa also plays their supporting role well (I loveit when Narcissa shivers as Dobby was making his speech). However, I dothink Ryhs Ifans's Xeno was 'over cooked' compare to the Xeno in thebook.The Harry Potter series has inspired generations. I grew up withthe books and the movies. As I grew, the characters, both fictional andactual actors grew with me.I am so impressed and excited about theaccomplishments of this series.

Movie Review on Harry Potter

This movie was really well done. I loved the editing, the music, theacting, the costumes, and set pieces. I would highly recommend thismovie. The ending was really sad and dramatic. The script was reallywell done. the director was excellent. Helena Bonham Carter was thebest. Emma Watson did a fantastic job. The pace of the movie was nottoo rushed. They adapted the book very well. It's to his great creditthat Yates can keep these slow-paced scenes captivating and then easilyswitch to the comfort of a well-timed joke or intense action scene.Despite an emphasis on these characters being lost, both directionallyand spiritually, Deathly Hallows – Part 1 is still a movie that knowshow to have fun. It just always mixes in the thrills with the sorrow.You can have a high-speed broom chase, but not everyone will make itout unscathed. You can have a funny and thrilling heist scene, butthere will be the undertones of Nazi Germany. It's a movie where ascene can begin with someone getting flushed down a toilet and end witha critical injury and yet somehow it all works.

~~~~~~~ A MOVIE FOR THE READERS! ~~~~~~~~~
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (Amazon Instant Video) Finally, a movie in the Harry Potter series that doesn't stray to some ridiculous, last minute, oddly invented, fake plot, and instead actually stays true to the originally written book.However, what is in fact unfortunate is that 'Warner Brothers' waited until the last movie to actually go by the book, hence the two parts.- Basically:* If you are a true fan of the books: You will LOVE and greatly ENJOY the film, as it is plainly put "The book coming to life before your eyes".* If you aren't a follower: You will still ENJOY the movie. It has some amazing cinematography! Yet, at times, it may seem a bit complex to a handful of viewers, this is because not everything is explained in detail as it is in the book, nevertheless this does not at all inhibit the audience from enjoying the magnificence of the film.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A GREAT MOVIE ALL AROUND! A MUST SEE! A++++++ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope the second part is better
I really loved all the Harry Potter's except this one and the first one. The first one was too childish for my taste. And this one was too boring. Over half of the movie they are stranded on the side of a mountain or a hill waiting for Harry to figure out how to destroy a Horcrux. There were times when I wondered if J. K. Rowling has seen broke back mountain a few too many times. If Ron and Harry had been left on the side of the mountain who knows this might have come true. The movie was good up until the last hour where all you see is them trapped on the side of the hill. This may have been okay for the readers of the book but not for someone who is only into the movies. In the end I think that Warner Brothers is just attempting to milk this story for all its worth with its 2 parts. It would have probably been okay if it was all there, but then again what do you expect from a greedy company like Warner Brothers.
Nothing to remember
I watched this movie like a year ago, and had no interest to re-watchit, so this review is totally based on my already faded memory. Don'tget me wrong, my memory faded not because I have problems rememberingthing, but because this movie has nothing much to remember.To start, this Part 1 is totally different from the previous 6 HarryPotter movies. There is no Hogwarts, no Quidditch, no funny lessons.The film is set with very dark tone and theme, with visuals full offear and loathing, doom and gloom. No more guidance from Dumbledore, nomore protection from the adult wizards, it's the story of our threekids out on the streets, by themselves, trying to find and destroysomething called "Horcruxes". Most of the time what they do iswandering in the forest, arguing, being jealous of each other, and ourpoor Harry sometimes hold his head in pain because of the Dark LordVoldemort. The supporting cast did great, as usual, but too bad, theTrio takes most of the screen time and I can't get enough of myfavorite evil side Snape by Alan Rickman and Bellatrix by Helena BonhamCarter.Being Part 1 of 2, it goes without saying that there is very littleclosure come the film's finale, which despite being long-overdue withinthe lengthy 146-minute runtime, arrives with no climax. To be honest,there's still a lot of fun to be had, such as a gripping infiltrationin to Ministry of Magic and a terrifying confrontation with Voldemort'spet-snake Nagini, and a fairy tale about the Deathly Hallows, butoverall, it does not come close to expectation.For more reviews, please visit: http://voicemotion.wordpress.com/
On point
1.Best book to movie adaption so far 2.Acting of the trio has improvedten-fold Rupert Grint shines above 3.Visual effects and fighting scenesso good any action head would agree 4.The three brothers animation isfantastic with a kind of Tim Burtonesgue feel 5.The split was neededand was done so fantastic it leaves you at the edge of your seat, thereis no way this could have been done in one movie SPOILER However 2thing that were left out i feel are very important 1. The painting ofPhineas Nigellus that they took from Grimauld Place was not in themovie and this is how Snape found out were the trio were to pass thesword of Gryffindor on to them which means that they will probably makeup another reason for how he found them in part 2 2. Harry Potter andthe Deathly Hallows ..... 3 hallows "The wand - The Stone - TheInvisibility Cloak" There is absolutely no mention or scene with theinvisibility cloak ....huge flaw in my opinion as the trio use it a lotin the book to help them travel and is a huge part of the story Butoverall this move is the best so far
Awesome . Although a bit slow. Very good improvisation.
OK , so I got back from the first-day show here and I must say it isthe 2nd best Harry Potter movie to date following the Chamber OfSecrets.ACTING : Very Good. All the actors live up to their expectations anddeliver very good performances.STORYLINE : Very Good. Despite the omission of a few small events as inthe book, the movie does just fine. Just wish the part of the moviearound the interval would've been faster. It has some very goodimprovisations. Especially the scene when Harry makes Hermione dancewas very intellectual thinking. Somehow it seemed perfect for direstraits. And so was the scene when an impersonating Ron kisses Reg'swife who is shocked to see her husband transformed into Ron.VISUAL EFFECTS : Awesome. The visual effects used in the film are verygood as usual but what tops it all off is the animation for the storyof the Three Brothers & Deathly Hallows.All said, it is a must watch for every HP fan and also recommended forthe non-enthusiasts. Although some non-enthusiasts might find it boringdue to the slow passing of events around the interval, this is really avery good movie. Hope the next part is full of all the action thereshould be and keeps us chained to our seats.
I laugh when I read the 1-2 star Reviews!
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (DVD) First of all, this movie needn't get another actual review from me, because there are too many reviews anyhow and mine would never be read. So rather than lecture on about how this is one of the best in the series (and it really is) I would like to address some of the 1 and 2 star reviews. I find it sad that people's ignorance and stupidity has to diminish the rating of this fabulous movie. Yes I know the ratings on Amazon really don't matter, but I really bothers me. So to the reviewer that gave the movie 2 stars for not completing the Dobby's Burial scene and explaining Harry's choice between the Horocrux's and the Hallow's, you might like to know that is only Part 1. There is a freaking reason why they split the movie into 2 parts, that is because there were things that could not be pushed into a single film. Ever think they might address that in Part 2?And to that person who rated the movie 1 star because he claimed he couldn't review the movie because he hadn't watched it yet, then why did you write that in the form of a review with 1 star?Finally, to the person who states that it was a failure because he is a huge fan and it didn't meet his expectations, so he was going to leave the Harry Potter series, I wouldn't call that being such a huge fan.I could go on and on and on, but I'll stop there.
Non fan review - dark, dire and desperate times
Having stated that I'm not necessarily a fan of the series doesn't mean I don't appreciate and actually have quite enjoyed several of the earlier films. This seems to go to a rather dark place which unto itself can make for great drama but I prefer to see the characters rise above the challenges. Wonderful acting, beautiful scenery (if mostly stark) but our intrepid heroes appear less and less intrepid - perhaps the point of their dire circumstances and maybe more realistic but not more preferable personally. A two part final episode might be a throw back to the cliff-hangers of earlier cinema but it doesn't seem to have the same sense of holding-one's-breath tension. The good guys are quite beaten down, the bad guy has all the advantage and you don't get the feeling the heroes are even ready to step up and face him. Obviously this is all personal preference, I like the little guys to at least keep getting their shots in and to be able to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel (even if it turns out to be a train rushing at them). The Blu-ray set itself is top notch, wonderful quality print with plenty of extras, including what might be considered a lot of marketing for the last film. Why they think anyone buying this needs to be sold on the last episode.....?
Just think, there's another one coming
Potter fans will do their nut, the rest of us will wonder what all thehype was about...Just the other day I went to the United Artists theater to see aweekend screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. Ifound it intriguing that so many millions have been made in ticketsales for what is essentially a mediocre film.Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter is the mainstay of this latestrendition of a story that has been stretched taut a long time ago. Thatthey have been able to breathe new life into a 7th version of thisclaptrap is quite astounding.Harry Potter #7 offers nothing new and its 2 hours + running time couldbe better spent enjoying Russel Crowe's Next Three Days or evenSkyline. If it's value for money you're after then this is a little shyof the mark.It's much ado about nothing really. Harry and co are searching for amagical sword and some funky amulets that need to be destroyed. That'sit. The special effects are hardly noteworthy and this reviewer isalready bored at having to do a write-up on this title.
Harry Potter comes back or the scariest times have come...
I very love the books and movies about Potter and the magic world,which were created by the legendary author J. K. Rowling. Numerousjourneys, unbelievable and amazing situations, different problems andits' decisions - this everything I liked when I've read the first bookand have watched the first movie "Harry Potter". I may name myself areal fan of Potteriana, because I adore all the parts (as movies, asbooks) of it and I think everybody will agree with me, that Potter'sworld and the main theme of the saga are very wonderful, interesting,sometimes it's funny and sometimes it's enough sad, but, in totalhere's a great story for all the family...Unfortunately, the end of "Half-blood prince" shows to us, that there'sthe Evil and it's very strong, besides we know that Potter and hisfriends have to fight with the Dark lord and his army. As result, someof these two sides will definitely lose, paying for it with the life.So, all the events of "Deathly Hallows. Part 1st" let us to know -life's changed, the evil surrounds the good guys and it may attack anytime of the night or the day. Our favorite heroes Harry, Ron andHermione certainly grew up, but they enough young to decide such hardproblems, which they've got. Watching this movie, You understand, thatthe light and happy times have gone and it, perhaps, will never comeagain.Well, I liked this movie, first of all, because it's enough emotional,real, it shows to viewer, that changes may be negative and "happyyesterday" may become "sad tomorrow". It's really very sad story:there're a lot of well-known heroes were murdered, the dark times havecome and the boy who has survived must prepare and to be ready for thefinal fight, which will come soon, very soon. For those people, whohave read (and for those, who gonna read) the last book, it will beinteresting to know, how the creators of the movie will film the finalbattle and scenes of trials, when old war will be over finally and onlyone - Harry Potter or VoldeMort will win.Finishing My speech, I wish for everybody, who hasn't watched yet the7th movie from Potteriana series to watch it, and for those guys, whowant to watch the last movie - to wait till the summer and to hope thatPotter will come back again only to win...
loved it :)
As someone who hadn't particularly enjoyed David Yates style ofdirecting before (hated OOTP) I was slightly disappointed to hear thathe would be directing Deathly Hallows, I thought he might change thingsaround too much and focus too much on the wrong things. However, after coming out of the movie this morning I was notdisappointed. Deathly Hallows was awesome, definitely my absolutefavourite of the franchise so far. They stay true to the book, whichhasn't really been done properly since Chamber of Secrets and do wellto integrate parts of the story that are important in DH but may nothave been seen in the movies before. A lot of it (the chase scene, Godrics Hollow, Malfoy Manor) was exactlyhow I imagined it to be in my head, full of suspense and actually quitescary, even though I knew what happened I was still holding my breathwhen Harry was trapped under the frozen lake! The acting is the best it has ever been, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grintand Emma Watson are superb, its amazing to see how much their actinghas come along since the first couple of movies. Emma Watson especiallyputs in a great performance! There are 2 reasons why I have given this a nine, one is that there areparts of it that are a bit cheesy, Harry & Hermione dancing anyone? Theother is just that I don't want to wait eight months to see the secondpart!
2012-05-12 08:09:24
It's not 1-star because of the film...
...it's because this is the lousiest transfer of film-to-DVD that I have ever purchased. Each scene, entirely washed out and 'dark'; it's almost like watching it in black and white. Not the TV, not the settings on the TV, it's just a lousy product ... and I can see from the other reviews that I'm not alone in thinking this. Ah, well...
2012-05-12 03:27:12
I CANT WAIT!!!!
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (Three-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I cant wait for this movie to come out already ahhhhhhhhhhh! lol i thought this was one of the best movies of the series because it follows the books pretty closely. Yes they leave some scenes out but come on they cant put every little scene of the book in the movie. If you want to know everything, read the book but i would say that the movie is awesome!
Love that Deathly Hallows was split into two
This review is from: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (DVD) First of all kudos to Amazon for a very quick April 15, 2011 arrival of my shipment. I will agree with other reviewers that the packaging for the DVD is extremely cheap. The front cover graphics look like a poor photocopy from a bad printer. Regardless I bought the movie for the DVD itself and will not deduct points for the packaging. The DVD played just fine in my Blu-ray player.I decided to wait until the last movie is available for purchase before going Blu-ray on the whole set. Based on other reviews about the pixelation of the Blu-ray version that turns out to be a wise bet.There is no doubt in my mind that this movie will appeal more to the Harry Potter purists who have read every book. I have been disappointed in the later movies regarding how much important detail was omitted from the movies so it stands to reason that I am incredibly delighted with this movie. It beautifully captures the darkness of the time with gorgeous, moody landscapes, captures the draining, debilitating hopelessness Harry, Hermione and Ron feel at various points and slowly builds tension to the sudden abrupt ending. At the time I watched Deathly Hallows Part 1 in the movie theater I was almost angry at the abrupt ending but when you look at it in context, it does allow the second movie to flow seamlessly from the first Deathly Hallows movie. So I will be watching the first movie again just prior to watching the second movie in July 2011.The excellent attention to detail in this movie does not translate as well to the casual viewer and my younger daughter who has not read the last three books was a little lost. So I get both points of view about the decision to split the last book into two movies but I'm happy the purists won.
It's back!
Harry Potter is back at last and this latest installment does notdisappoint at all! Harry and the team are off on the journey to findthe remaining pieces of the seven segments of Lord Voldermort's soul,and have to face mighty challenges throughout their journey. As theyset off, it is fascinating to see how they find clues and solutions toall their problems.Daniel Radcliffe has done a great job, portraying the fear as well asthe bravery and determination of Harry Potter in facing each and everychallenge he gets. Emma Watson shows us why Hermione Granger is such akey part of the group, showing her intellect and her care and love forher two best friends. Rupert Grint(Ron Weasley) adds his wonderfulsense of humor and his knack of being in the right place at the righttime! David Yates has directed this extremely well and you just do notwant to take your eyes of the screen!For me, Tied for best movie of the series with Goblet Of Fire. Can'twait for the grand finale!
What happened to the peculiar magic that used to be in the first Harry Potter movies.
I used to love the Harry Potter movies more than most movies, and thereason to that is because they used to be magical, they felt likestories and fables. But the latest Harry Potter movies just down rightsuck. The reason to that is because they've lost all their magic,they've only reverted to CGI and seem to have put their focus there.The scenes look different from the other ones, the camera has a sicklyannoying shake at most action scenes and the movie itself just hasn'tgot any intense moments at all. Plus after I saw it, I was expecting tosomewhat understand the story, but apparently it didn't tell me squat.For example, I remember when they destroyed the necklace Horokrux whichthey'd got. After they had destroyed it, they said "Good, now there areonly four horokruxes left." My damn question is, when he heck did theydestroy the first three? One was tom riddles book and the other one wasthis necklace! Perhaps they did it in the Half Blood prince? If theydid, them I must've missed it. But who can blame me? When the movieonly was filled with over-dramatic scenes and an overdoing amount ofCGI effects instead of story. So why blame me if I've missed it? But,let's get to a conclusion here. I didn't like the movie, nor do Irecommend it to anyone who loved the first movies. I suggest you waitfor Spielbergs animated series of harry potter.
A Disappointment
I'll be the first to admit that I am not the greatest fan of Harry Potter. The first six movies, though, are enjoyable. For the most part, they are a nice mix of tension and comedic relief. However, when the Deathly Hallows Part I credits started to roll, my first reaction was: That's it!? The tension throughout the movie was constant and high. About midway through the film when our heroes were beset once again with trouble, it thought "ho, hum, there's another set back." Because of the consistent level of tension, I had no sense that the film was even coming to an end, and was taken quite by surprise at the suddenness of the ending. It held no dramatic effect whatsoever for me.
