We have taken some photos of "Gremlins 2: The New Batch". They represent actual movie quality.
Watching this hilarious sequel to the original hit film is like watching a live action Looney Tunes. With its fast paced motion, the plethora of gremlins doing wild and crazy things, all the "in jokes" and reference to the original, this sequel is just as good if not a little better than its original.Other than the insufferably cute little Mowgie, the other gremlins are horrific little demons who stop at nothing to wreak havoc in a luxurious high rise perpetrated by a Donald Trump tycoon (Mr. Clamp). The virginal heroes from the original are back and even the snow plow driver and his wife show up. It's all mindless, reckless fun and very entertaining. Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates are appropriately naive and mushy; John Glover is a hoot as the tycoon; Robert Picardo is fine as Glover's henchman, Robert Plosky looking like Grandpa Munster is funny and Dick Miller and Jackie Joseph (who appeared in the original 1961 LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS) are good as the snowplow driver and his wife.Even almost 20 years later, these guys are hilarious.
It wasn't usual for a hit 1984 movie to spawn a sequel 6 years later butthat was the case with 'Gremlins'. However, this film is one of the fewsequels that rivals the original in terms of quality. 'Gremlins' was ahorror comedy making fun of Suburban households and wreaking havoc on thetown. It was a good piece of popcorn fun which elevated above mostblockbusters because of it's sheer wit and darkness. The sequel is moreplayed for laughs - In fact, it is almost a spoof of the first film. Thefinal 20 minutes of the film is actually poor Gremlin mania. It has spoofsof everything from 'New York, New York' to Marilyn Monroe (The femaleGremlin)to gangster films of the 50's to 'The Wizard of Oz'and so on. Thegood thing is the film doesn't just remake the first film. This film istotally different but with the same characters returning now ready for theattack. But last time the Gremlins invaded the picture perfect town ofKingston Falls now they plan to invade New York and Billy Peltzer (ZachGalligan) has until the night to save New York and possibly the world fromthe Gremlin threat. From the start which features an argument between BugsBunny and Daffy Duck over who should be present for the main logo(Originally, an even funnier extended version of this animated scene wasused but later dropped but you can check it out on the great DVD!) which hasbeen specially written and animated by the recently deceased Chuck Jones, weare thrown into the Clamp building ran by Mr. Clamp (John Glover) and whichalmost completely is operated by special devices saving time, energy andmoney. This building is the setup for a bunch of great gags and the filmsucceeds on providing great entertainment but I still can't decide if Iprefer this or the first one. It may lean more towards this. Featuring greatscenes like the Bat Gremlin, the Smart Gremlin, the Girl Gremlin, theElectric Gremlin who is stuck forever to listen to horrible songs in atelephone and the secretary Gremlin who meets his demise in a shredder. It'sthe Gremlin's show here and there's no denying it! Chris Columbus' originalscript with shadows of horror and comedy is now taken over by Charlie Haas, proving the Gremlins can be the star of the show. Joe Dante returns todirect and does a very good job. Familiar faces will be seen in ZachGalligan, Phoebe Cates, Dick Miller and Keye Luke and new faces in the formof Christopher Lee and a cameo from Hulk Hogan (Or John Wayne, in the homevideo version). Well, this new batch is a great batch!
This review is from: Gremlins 2: The New Batch [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I've always thought Gremlins 2 was one of the rare sequels that was actually better than the original. Part 2 just seems more in line with what 'gremlins' actually were, little monsters that caused chaos. The second film is less mean-spirited than the original and pokes fun at some of the first film's flaws. Know this though, the first film is a horror film, this film IS NOT. If anything this film is basically a live action Looney Tunes film. Terrific performances and a fun story make this a great film.As for the content of the blu-ray, be aware that there is nothing new added from the previously released special edition DVD. What you do get is pretty terrific. Deleted scenes, trailers, a vintage making of doc, a gag reel, and the alternate home video sequence are all included. A full on new making of doc would have been nice, but alas this film was not the money printing machine that the first film was so we have to take what we can get. The transfer is a bit soft and flat, but is still the best the film has ever looked. Highly recommended. As a side note, there is a 3 movie blu-ray package available that includes both Gremlins 1 & 2 as well as The Goonies, so I'd hold off on purchasing this individual package and pick up the 3 pack. I saw that package for cheap, but it's getting harder to find, so keep your eyes open.
Back at 1984, Joe Dante and Steven Spielberg produced a monster filmknown as "Gremlins", a tale about a boy who receives a pet creature forChristmas, but when he breaks all three of the rules about his creaturenamed Mogwai, the furry creature turns into a monster, thus creating anarmy of hellish looking devils to cause mischief to his hometown atKingston Falls. The reception was mixed at first, but it quicklyreceived positive feedback and became a huge hit at the box office.Since it was so popular, Joe Dante decides to make a sequel six yearslater at 1990 known as "Gremlins 2: The New Batch".The story continues a few years later after the incident where Billyand Kate move to New York by working for Daniel Clamp. Meanwhile, afterthe owner of the creature named Gizmo dies, Gizmo gets wet by wateronce again and a new gremlin species is born. So, when they causetrouble this time at the Big Apple, Billy along with some of his oldfriends from the original try to destroy them once and for all. When it comes to sequels that would either surpass the original or justbeing plain horrible, this one is a very good sequel, but not nearly asexcellent as the first since there are a few flaws that ruined the filmfor me even when I saw it a few years ago as a child. The story in thefirst was great and had an excellent mixture of horror and comedy whilethe story in this sequel was only comedy and slapstick, which makes itmuch less darker, but not only that. It seems to be at thepredictability level and only one or two scenes didn't actually impressme.Flaws aside, there are some redeeming qualities. The acting is greatwith the main leads having some great chemistry once again and thevoice cast for the gremlins is great too. The script has some funnymoments and I liked the way they parodied The Wizard of Oz, MarathonMan, and The Phantom of the Opera, which is quite clever. It also hassome efficient direction from Joe Dante and the music from JerryGoldsmith is the epitome of magnificence.Overall, Gremlins 2: The New Batch isn't nearly as excellent as theoriginal, but it is an underrated sequel that it's a shame that thisfailed at the box office. It's much worth-watching and I think thatit'll make you laugh a lot more even for fans of the original. Thumbsup!
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment gives "Gremlins " enthusiasts what they've been waiting a long time for. "Gremlins 2: The New Batch " finally gets the high definition treatment. Joe Dante's sequel still thrills with its great balance of camp, gore, comedy, and horror. Fans not only get the feature film, but some nice extras as well. The "Gremlins 2: The New Batch" Blu-ray release will please consumers waiting for this to makes it way into the high definition realm. This is one release well worth upgrading and spending your hard-earned cash on.
I feel this movie was right on par with the first Gremlins if not better. The story was very imaginative and did a great job of not falling into the"worthless sequel" category. I wish they would release it on DVD, butthusfar have not. As a matter of a fact, the original has beendiscontinued."The New Batch" was a very funny and entertaining movie from start tofinishif you have yet to see it.
This movie came out when I was 5 years old. I remember the movieposters in the streets and the wacky preview for it on TV. I'm now 20years old, and this is still one of my most favourite movies of alltime. It's even better than the original, I believe. The reason I loveit so much is because it is so damn strange. It really, really is! It'slike a live action "Looney Tunes" episode. The gremlins are wacky,Gizmo is cute and mysterious, the human actors are all brilliant intheir roles and the New York building setting is well, neat. The basic premise for this movie picks up a few years after the first"Gremlins" movie. This time however, it takes place in the busiest cityon the planet, New York. The movie opens with the death of Gizmo's frail Chinese owner. Inaccordance with the owners death, the place where Gizmo is kept isdemolished by a bulldozer and recking ball. Terrified, Gizmo flees fromthe building and into an alley where he is plucked up by a scientistand brought to the "Clamp Cable Network" building. The building belongsto media mogul Daniel Clamp and contains a vast variety of shopsincluding: coffee houses, restaurants, dental clinics and sciencelaboratories.Coincidentally, Billy and Kate are both working in the same building.Billy is in the art department and Kate gives guided tours of thebuilding. It is here that they stumble upon Gizmo and the inevitablehappens.I won't give anymore of the story line away. If you haven't seen thismovie yet, I urge you to. It may not be brilliant in the eyes of the"Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences", but it is in my eyes. 10stars!
Doesn't have quite the mood or atmosphere of the first one but it is still a lot of fun and Gizmo's animimatronics are better than the first one.
Yep, Daniel Clamp was definately right when he said that, but he was toolate. Some say the acting sucked or the plot sucked or whatever they canthink of sucked in this film, but you know what, they probably suck, becausethis movie RULES!The story begins with a group of businessmen travelling to Chinatown tovisit Mr Wing. (owner of Gizmo) For he is the only thing stopping the richDaniel Clamp from completing his Chinatown project. An adament Mr Wingrefuses, but Forster knows that he will not be alive forlong...Soon, Mr Wing has passed away, and the shop begins to be torn down. Gizmoescapes in daylight???!!! (This I found annoying as sunlight kills!!!) Andhe is found by Martin - a zany mad scientist from one of Mr Clamp'sbusinesses 'Splice of Life'. Coincidently, Billy and Kate turn up, they now work in New York in CLAMPwhere Billy is an artist (yay!) and Kate is a tour guide with a funny-lookinoutfit. Billy's work is amazing, but his Boss Marla Bloodstone always findssomething she doesn't like.A man humming Gizmo's song grabs the attention of Billy, and he dashes to'Splice of Life' to save his little furry friend. Marla wishes to take Billyto dinner on 'business' matters, and so tells a reluctant Kate to take Gizmohome. When Kate sees Billy meet Marla in the distance and Marla puts her armaround him, she feels upset, but decides to get Gizmo anyways.*spoilers from here on* It's already too late, some janitor fixing thedrinking-water machine has gotten Gizmo wet, and he's spawned some evilmogwai with BIG personalities. My favourite being the wacky Daffy! When Kate takes Daffy home instead of Gizmo, Billy becomes anxious to savetheir jobs, and tries to switch off the water supply, ending up in jail. Themogwai have already eaten after midnight. There's nothing more they cando...The next day proves tricky, and the gang have to stop the hundreds of zanygremlins from getting out into New York. They even take some DNA which turnsthem into wonderful half-n-half creatures, and one of them is extremelyintelligent and CAN TALK!This film is fabulously funny, scary and just wonderful all the way through!I recommend any sequel lover, gremlin fan and comedy or horror fan to seethis film. It's the classic sequel, and everyone's got to see thismasterpiece!!! 100 out of 5!!!!! =)
This review is from: Gremlins 2 - The New Batch (DVD) This was not as good as the first one and had some ugly rotten dudes in this one .Not for five and under and maybe ten and under. Wish I had not bought this one. The first was the best.
***1/2 stars out of ****.Billy has moved to the big city, and when Gizmo starts spawning morereptilian terrors (in the high-tech building where Billy works), and theyget into a Laboratory (owned by the wonderful Christopher Lee) and mutateinto various mutant gremlins. As good if not better than the original, thisoutstanding sequel has good acting by everybody and a competently writtenscript. Excellent F/X and direction make this a hit, one of the best of1990.
I wasn't overly fussed about watching this in the first place, but thought I'd better to stop the brewing argument about to take place between my boyfriend & me. (I promise, I'll watch Indiana Jones sometime).I couldn't really remember much about the original, except that I loved Gizmo, and I hated the other Gremlins. They seemed to get even uglier in this movie, except for that giggling one, he was cute. But he was just a giggly Gizmo really. There are two different versions of this movie, and that's the theatrical version, and the one for 'video'. The difference is that in the theatrical version, it appears that the film begins to burn, however, in the video version, this segment is replaced by a segment which simulates a broken VCR machine. This is a really funny bit in the movie, cos I honestly thought the DVD had gone a bit loopy! And then Hulk Hogan appears - whatever happened to him?!There are loads of references & spoofs, and stuff relating to the first movie. When one of the gremlins gets injected with the bat serum and becomes a bat, it breaks through the window and forms in the broken glass the logo for Batman, another Warner Bros. release. The dentist gremlin, who seriously freaked me out, says "Is it safe?", a reference to Marathon Man. Leonard Maltin is attacked by Gremlins for panning the 1984 movie. An obvious reference to The Wizard of Oz: one gremlin is dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West, melting, saying, "I'm melting! What a world! What a world!" The scene where Kate tells the story of encountering the flasher dressed as Abrahahm Lincoln on Lincoln's birthday was intended as a parody of a scene in Gremlins where she tells Billy about her father's accidental death one Christmas. The character Daniel Clamp, obviously based on real-life real estate tycoon Donald Trump, falls for Billy's manager, Marla Bloodstone, at the end of the movie. Donald Trump was married to Marla Maples. Joe Dante had originally planned for this movie to spoof its predecessor, and elements of this "spoof" are displayed throughout the movie (ie, Kate's monologue, the gremlins being less threatening and more funny, etc) One of the offices in Clamp Towers next to the Splice of Life was "Vectorscope Labs" from the movie Innerspace also directed by Joe Dante. Aside from Mohawk, the other three Mogwai created from Gizmo are called George, Lenny, and Daffy (the first two referring to John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men, the latter referring to Daffy Duck).Joe Dante being the Looney Tunes mad Joe Dante, there is obviously the references to the Looney Tunes, and also, they feature at the start & end of the movie. During the end credits, Daffy Duck walks onto the screen and comments on the names in the credits, saying things like "Long, isn't it?" "You're still here? Don't you people have homes?" Normally, we don't watch through the credits on DVDs, just at the cinema, but I understood it eventually, when Daffy kept popping up. At the beginning of the film, Bugs Bunny appears on top of the WarnerBrothers Logo as in a Looney Tune Cartoon. At the very end of the film after the credits, Porkey Pig tries to say "That's All Folks", but gets interrupted by Daffy.I'm sorry to say this movie isn't much better than the original, but then again, sequels rarely are, save a few. I enjoyed both, but they're just not that great. They're not mind-blowing, or anything, just harmless fun. Just don't make me watch Critters? I'll have nightmares after that. OK, I've watched both movies, and I've done two reviews, can I have my Gizmo toy now please?
Gremlins 2 has got to be another funny movie. I give this one anotherexcellent score 10 out 10. I enjoyed this one better than the first. Ireally liked the Talking gremlin and the female gremlin. This one was madein 1990. I hope there will be GREMLINS 3 because i have an idea. Gizamo theMogwai falls in love with a female Mogwai, they breed gremilns by accidentand they all have to defeat the little beasts.
If you're reading this and haven't seen the movie, watch the first oneand expect every problem with the original fixed. It's not as "scary"as the original but how they try to fix the original mistakes is worththe watch if you're a fan of monster movies. If you've seen this read about the discussion about "the rules", themother & daughter leaving out of the theater and the Leonard Maltinscenes. They were some of the greatest moments in cinematic historywhen the movie breaks the fourth wall several times and tries to appealto the haters of the first one.I rate it 10 outta 10 because of nostalgic memories but fair and squareit's a hard 7.5 in my book. Worth the watch and sure would make youlaugh with the corny things like "the batman symbol" or the "Rambomontage".
This movie was much funnier than the original but had a lot lessdeaths...in fact the only people that die in this movie compared to theoriginal are the gremlins. The cast was fine but the stars of the show were The Gremsters as Hogancalls them. Wired, Spider, Batty, Brain, Hottie, Stogie, Dummy,Electric, Fruity just to name a few. I like how they gave them allsorts of persona's instead of generic ones. The Brain gremlin had an interesting roll and was actually likable,Wired was hilarious especially when he was throwing the food ateveryone. Spider, Stogie and Dummy were basically the 3 stoogesbumbling around. It was a grand effort to make the public laugh and itworked.I like how they got Gette Watanabe from Gung Ho and Sixteen Candles toplay the cameraman for Uncle Fred...and his friends.GREAT movie with some cool cameos (depending on the VHS or DVDversion...VHS has John Wayne, DVD has Hulk Hogan) and unforgettablescenes (Brain singing New York, New York with Wired, Stogie etc playingthe instruments)8 out of 10
This review is from: Gremlins 2 - The New Batch (DVD) This movie brings me happy memories back from the early nineties. Some of the effects might look old fashioned compared to what we have nowadays, but it's still amazing. Definetely a classic must-have!
Gremlins 2: The New Batch now sees Billy Peltzer (Zach Galliganreturning to reprise his role form the original) & his fiancé KateBeringer (Phoebe Cates, another returnee) living in New York City &working in the world's most automated building called Clamp Towersowned by mega rich businessman Daniel Clamp (John Glover). Clamp isplanning on building a brand new Chinatown & so needs Mr. Wing's (KeyeLuke) shop, Wing refuses to sell but eventually passes away leavingGizmo the Mogwai all alone as the bulldozers move in. Two geneticscientist's Martin & Lewis (Don & Dan Stanton) discover Gizmo & takehim back to their laboratory in Clamp Towers. By a lucky coincidenceonce there Gizmo is quickly found by Billy who hides him in his desk, however it's not long before Gizmo gets wet & multiplies into meanspirited Mogwai's. These deliberately break the most important rule ofnot eating after midnight & it's not long before Clamp Towers isoverrun with green, slimy mischievous Gremlins. It's up to Billy, Kate,Gizmo & Clamp to save the day...Directed by Joe Dante Gremlins 2: The New Batch was an attempt torecreate the success of the original Gremlins (1984), I have to admit Iwas disappointed by this sequel. The script by Charlie Hass to it'scredit moves along like a rocket & is never dull or boring as somethingalways seems to be happening, however this is not enough as Gremlins 2:The New Batch is far more comedy than horror this time around so forgetabout any sort of story or meaningful character's. Most of the jokes &visual gags are awful, from the annoyingly unfunny opening featuringBugs Bunny & Daffy Duck to the idiotic part where the 'film' breaks &Hulk Hogan sitting in a cinema has to threaten the Gremlins to makethem start running it again. Gremlins 2: The New Batch is far morelight hearted with no real horror & no one dies apart from ChristopherLee, unfortunately. If you are a fan of films in general then Gremlins2: The New Batch may provide you with some fun as you try to spot allthe in-jokes & references, there are loads of the things like a gremlinin a The Phantom of the Opera (1925) mask playing the organ, the wayDoctor Catheter is holding an alien pod from Invasion of the BodySnatchers (1956), the way Gizmo dresses up like Rambo, a bit obviouslyinspired by The Wizard of Oz (1939) where a gremlin melts while wearinga witches hat & a musical number straight from New York, New York(1977). All these gags & constant stupid send-ups got on my nerve'safter a while as Gremlins 2: The New Batch goes from one gremlin gag toanother with little regard for the actual story getting in the way. Forwhat it's worth my favourite bits were the part where the gremlinsattack film critic Leonard Maltin for panning the first Gremlins film &a cool bit where a half gremlin/half bat smashes out of a window &leaves the Batman symbol outline behind! Some of the genetic gremlinmutants like Brain & the spider gremlin are also pretty cool. In theend it becomes one long somewhat tedious joke & I much prefer theoriginal.Director Dante forgoes any sort of violence or gore & plays the entirefilm for laughs. As a whole the film doesn't have any great style. With a supposed budget of about $50,000,000 Gremlins 2: The New Batchis technically excellent as you would expect from a big budgetHollywood film. Despite the absence of CGI the puppet effects are stillvery impressive & the gremlins themselves are great, music, cinematography & production values are also good. The acting doesn'treally matter as none of the human cast matter that much.I was disappointed by Gremlins 2: The New Batch, perhaps I wasexpecting a slightly darker more horror orientated film but all thestupid jokes & parodies just didn't do anything for me. Having saidthat it provides sporadic entertainment when it does get somethingright & it's still definitely worth a watch at least once but it'smainly for kids.
Gremlin movies are never very scary, but they are funny. This movie is especially funny because the Gremlins take all these potions that change them. There is the smart one, the gargoyle, the spider, and the lightning bolt. Christopher Lee is in this movie as a crazy scientist. He is funny in that role. If you are looking to be scared, don't watch this movie. If you are looking for a funny movie, try this one out. Make sure to stick around for the ending in the bathroom. :)
this is a very good sequel to gremlins not quiet as good but not far from it the comodey is great and it has alot to do with the original unlike other sequels the leader gremlin is just as good as stripe of the first I highly suggest this film.
This review is from: Gremlins 2: The New Batch (DVD) I recieved this movie in new like condition.I remember when it came out and I thought it was a great movie then and now I own it.This is another one that belongs in my kouse
