Go

Go is set mostly during one long Christmas Eve in the lives of a group of young adults on the events surrounding a drug deal in Los Angeles replayed three different times from three different views. In a straightforward manner when slacker Simon Baines takes off for a getaway to Las Vegas with his friends, Ronna takes his shift at the 24-hour grocery store where they work. When two guys, named Adam and Zack, walk in asking to score some dope from Simon, Ronna takes it upon herself and her friends Claire and Mannie to buy some some stuff from the local drug dealer Todd Gains. But the drug deal is a sting that Adam and Zack are forced to set up by an overzealous narcotics agent, Burke. Ronna is forced to dispose of the drugs. With no other alternative, she tries to double-cross Todd with phony drugs. Meanwhile in Las Vegas, Simons adventures with his best friend Marcus hit an unfortunate turn during a trip to a strip club, while Adam and Zack end up spending Christmas Eve with Burke and his wife Irene, and afterward while driving to a rave that Ronna is dealing, the guys accidentally hit Ronna with their car and leave her for dead. Nearby, Mannie nearly ODs on dope, and Claire gets more friendly with a vengeful Todd whom is now looking for Ronna.

Go and see the movie!

it has one of the best story-lines ever! Katie Holmes and Sarah Polley areso good-looking. Every actor/actress did very well on playing their role. Inthe begin, it was a bit confusing. But after a while, you'll understandmore. The movie shows the perspective of 3 different persons over the samesituation, which was done in a very clever way. If you decide not to go andsee the movie...You don't know what you're missing!

Poseur-rave sloppage for WB drama viewers

Oh dear. Where to begin? Let me break it down like this, I couldn't finishthe video. I stopped it before the end was over. My beef is with theplot, and the gross portrayal of the so-called "rave" scene. The plot was non-existent. I'm cool with that, I can enjoy movies aboutnothing--kind of like watching extended episodes of Seinfeld. However, thiswhirlwind mishmash did nothing for the film. If one is going to take astory and chop it into segments, then one should take great pains to makesure each segment makes a point, and eventually gels together nicely in theend. Tarantino knows how to do this. This movie does not. Instead, itrambled on and on and on.My next problem with the film is the whole "rave" scene. I'm a clubbermyself, and I felt the film fell back on stereotypes to define what rave is.I know that drugs are a big part of rave culture, but I'd like to point outthat I know quite a few ravers who DON'T always have to use drugs when theyrave. This film does nothing but to perpetuate these gross misconceptions.I would have liked to see more dancing and hear more music, and less of abunch of kids in a back of a van, being advised to smoke more marijuana inorder to feel the ecstasy. To conclude? More mind candy for the brainless, but trendy, viewers of theDawson's Creek and Party of Five fans. Any advantages? Quite possibleseeing the big pants and beaded pacifiers breaking into mainstreamfashion.

One of the best movies I've ever seen!

Go is a wonderful movie about the life of a bunch of kids. It tells thedangers of drugs in a funny fresh way. Katie Holmes does the "Good girlwho'll never do anything wrong" job as she does on 'Dawson's Creek' SarahPolley is great also. It's hard to believe she's the same girl as on 'Roadto Avonlea' What a Wonderful movie! A must see!

Has everything you would want from a movie

Go is one of the best movies I have ever seen. One of the reasons wasbecause I am a big "Simpsons" fan, and they had an episode based onthis movie that I had seen three years prior to seeing this film. The movie starts with a rave, then a random conversation (notunderstood until end). After that, we see Ronna and her life for abouthalf an hour. Later on, we see Simon, the British guy who gives Ronnahis shift. He goes to Vegas and has a different adventure with hisfriends. By this time the movie is linking together, and the viewer isunderstanding better. After Simon makes his way home, we see Adam &Zack's situation. As this goes on, more and more linking comestogether. By the end, all four people (three different perspectives)come together for one last twist. This movie must have taken months to arrange the plot so perfectly. Theidea of having three points-of-view to be linked together this well ismind blowing. 9 out of 10 stars. This movie has everything you need:sex, nudity, drug use, drug selling, vulgarity, comedy, fire, stripclubs, threesomes... it just adds up to perfection. Excellent, excellent movie.

What a great surprise!

I went to see "Go" with a friend, and I had no idea what it was about, or who was in it, or even what genre of movie it was to be...in other words, I went to see "Go" with zero expectations. That said, I was thoroughly entertained. The acting was excellent, the dialogue was VERY funny, and the non-linear presentation of the plot added to the tension in the movie.Much has been written of the similarities between "Go" and "Pulp Fiction", in part because both films present their plots in a non-linear fashion. I am a moviegoer who considers "Pulp Fiction" to be a 90's classic. At the same time, "Go" does a better job of presenting its plot (for example, most people didn't realize that "Pulp Fiction" was seen out of real time until very late in the film, and therefore left the movie confused and not sure what they'd seen). This is not the case with "Go", which is one of the film's strengths.See this movie, simply to be entertained by a little dark humor that is presented in a way different from most films. By the time you get to the last line of the film ("What are you doing next weekend?"), you'll be totally set-up as well.

a mixed bag

This movie had four stories, so I really wanted to vote four times. Thesegments with Claire and Ronna were excellent, with strong acting anddelightful characters. The Las Vegas story was lacking in characterlikeability (is that a word), but it had plenty of fun action and humor. The Scott Wolf / Jay Mohr segment had its ups (humor) and downs (JamesWoods' creepiness) but was still decent. If you're a fan of Polley, Holmes,Olyphant, Meyer, Diggs, Mohr, or Foley, you will enjoy this movie.Otherwise, it's kind of a toss-up.

VERY entertaining!

I thought this was a nice change of pace from Swingers, but it has the same character elements as some of the swingers characters...but darker. Much different than Pulp Fiction, nonlinear storyline- yes, but far from a ripoff. Great |Flick.

A bit of a let down

It is unfortunate how people can be blinded by an interestingly structuredfilm that is really not that great. Yes, it's neat to see how the threeplotlines converge, but who really cares about any of these people? Thecharacters that inhabit this film are all pretty stupid. They do stupidthings. I don't mind a not-so-bright character here and there, but all ofthem do things that tend to come back to haunt you (and not toosurprisingly, they do). I have little or no sympathy for any of thecharacters' problems as they kind of deserve what they get and end upgetting off easy. The dialogue is pretty sharp and certainly speaks of afairly wide pop culture background. I guess I just want a little more thandead celebrity names, mentions of Knightrider and speeches about inwardlydrawn 90 minute orgasms. I just found myself wishing that within thiswackedout evening of evil- something horrible would happen to the entire cast(that would reduce the element of comedy of course). The Tarantinocomparisons seem a little lofty though. I find myself much more interestedin a lot of Tarantino's villains than the so called "hipsters" that I'msupposed to care about in this film. I would certainly not discourageanyonefrom at least giving it a look, but what's up with the 8ish approvalrating? Are people so starved for a good movie that's fairly accessible in termsofstructure that they need to attach themselves to this? I heard somebodycallit the movie of the decade! Wow, is this movie overrated.

Drugs, Sex, Violence, and Family Circus

All this and more can be seen in this dark comedy. It gives you a dose ofthe real world seen through the eyes of drug dealers, drugees, and drugbusters. This movie gives out a hilarious dose while following the storiesbehind 3 grocery store employees, (including Katie Holmes), that take adrugorder from a fellow co-worker that happens to be in Vegas for the weekendwith his own drugee friends, (including Breken Meyer as a black wannabe.)The plot turns sour when the 20 hits of X are destroyed and an angereddealer, Todd (Timothy Olyphant), comes after them. Trying to get into thespotlight are a gay couple, (Jay Mohr & Scott Wolf) that find they'regetting themselves into the drug scene deeper than they want to. Thismoviekeeps you laughing with scenes that include burning hotel rooms, deceasedcelebrities that begin with an X, getting high on baby asprin, and thereason why Family Circus sucks. "It's just sitting ther in the bottomright-hand corner, just waiting to suck." This is a must-see that showsthetruth and irony of the drug scene.

Sarah Polley is it!

The movie is OK. You've seen it all before but it is entertaining. TheChristmas dinner at the undercover cop's house was pretty amusing. Thereason I would say watch it is that Sarah Polley gives a greatperformance.I think she carries the movie. Now that I'm aware of who she is I've beentrying to see all the movies she's been in. I think she may be the bestactress of her generation. Not the prettiest, or best known (readcelebrity), but simply the most talented. Her ability to express emotionwith her face, eyes and body language is amazing.

One of my Faves

This film has got it all - Comedy, Action, Suspense, Sex, Drugs, Violence,Cool music, Hip dialogue...I could go on. Everyone says it's so much likePulp Fiction & it is but it is JUST AS GOOD AS PULP FICTION if not better!Just crack open a beer with some mates and enjoy 'cause this isentertainment at it's best.

Hella funny movie

this pulp fiction style comedy is funny and oringinal. the casting was excellent and the story was super cool. being in the below 25 age group i really enjoyed this movie. some older demographic might take it a little bit too seriously. there is some cool extras on the dvd. BUY IT. is the rating i am giving it.

Katharina 2012-04-20 20:15:44

Well written script, funny

I really liked Go, I thought it was written really well, and I loved how allthe three characters' points of view tied together so well. It is about onenight Christmas eve, and everything that goes on during it. This movie wasalso really funny and ironic. I thought Breckin Meyer was very good in hisrole as a black-wannabe. There are a lot of twists and turns and the end issurprising. I gave this movie a 7 and I would recommend you to see it. Theonly problem is it is rated R for nudity, heavy drug use, and language.

Fun Movie

I liked this movie well enough to watch it twice. I waited 'til it cameouton video, but made sure to see it, because it stars Sarah Polley, who I'vebeen a fan of since her "Road to Avonlea" days. This is not a serious movie. It's fun, upbeat, quick, and for those withshort attention spans. I liked it. I didn't think it was as incredibleassome say, but enjoyable enough to watch it twice. So many people have compared it to Pulp Fiction. Frankly, the onlysimilarity I see between the two, is the "jumping around timelines".WhichI like.Good movie to watch, just don't bother trying to analyze it - you won'tcomeup with much.

Ahh, to be young and impulsive.....

This is a fun film. Doug Liman has followed Swingers w/ another fun-filled movie. This time it is about how teens can get themselves into big trouble, but somehow find a way to get out of the mess. The film reminds me of 2 Days in the Valley (just off-center and slightly wacky) and Pulp Fiction (a story form multiple characters' view points). The young cast acts well. The DVD looks and sounds great. And the bonus features are pretty decent.

Narcosynthesis 2012-04-13 11:11:34

I fail to be amused by this

Go / 1/2 starI had hoped to find something to make my time worthwhile during thismovie, but I realized that such a thing is clearly impossible in such a movie.Forone thing, some of the music in this movie is the worst I have heard. Iguess I'm not much of a 'raver'.I mean, come on. What is it with movies these days? Is there nothing goodcoming out any more? It is clear after watching this garbage that the plotwas easy to come up with. The writing wasn't much either. I can honestlysaythat I have not seen anything quite so displeasing in a longtime. This movie follows a night in 3 different perspectives. First there isRonna, a grocery store clerk that needs some money so she doesnt getevicted. So instead of thinking for a bit of how to get some more money, shedecides to go against the law and sell drugs. Then there is Simon, whogetsa trip to Las Vegas and encounters a wild night. Last and definatly least,Adam and Zack, who get involved in a hit and run kind ofdeal. If you have listened to my words this long you will have found no goodreason to watch this movie, but that is because there isn't a good reason. The only thing this movie has that keeps you awake is a couple (literally, acouple) laughs.

Jonathon Dabell 2012-04-12 23:45:05

Excellent black comedy told via three interlocking stories.

After the success of "Swingers", director Doug Liman follows it up withan absolutely superb interlocking character study set among the youthculture of Los Angeles. "Go" is a splendid film on various levels -terrific acting, ingenious overlapping of its three segments, fabulouswriting, and Liman's assured direction. Some parts are hystericallyfunny, others are disturbing, and the film is an exciting cinematicexperience throughout. That it was completely ignored at Oscar time isa real shame, for here is a film that deserves acclaim. It just getsbetter the more times you watch it.Part One - "Ronna". Checkout girl Ronna (Sarah Polley) faces evictionat Christmas. She risks everything by attempting to pull off a drugdeal in order to raise her rent money. After getting a bunch of Ecstasytablets from intimidating drug dealer Todd Gaines (Timothy Olyphant),and leaving her innocent friend Claire (Katie Holmes) with Todd ascollateral, she tries to finish the sale. But everything that could gowrong does go wrong....Part Two - "Simon". Meanwhile, Ronna's workmate Simon (Desmond Askew)goes on a short break to Las Vegas with his pals. Their good-naturedhijinks turn nasty when Simon and his friend Marcus (Taye Diggs) causea ruckus in a strip-joint and have to shoot their way out of the place. It's a race against time as the strip club's gangster owner tries tocatch them before they skip town.Part Three - "Adam & Zack". Two gay TV stars (Scott Wolf, Jay Mohr) tryto help a weird cop, Burke (William Fichtner), pull off a drug sting inorder to clear themselves of drug possession charges. The sting goeswrong but their night goes from bad to worse. Firstly they have toendure a bizarre Christmas dinner at Burke's house; later in their carthey accidentally run over Ronna (from Part One) and must decide how toconceal their crime. All the sections are very good but the best, marginally, is Part Two.The entire cast are in terrific form, with outstanding performancesall-round. To single out one performer above the others is difficultwith Polley, Askew, Mohr, Wolf, Olyphant, Diggs and Holmes matchingeach other all the way in their delineation of believable and quirkycharacters. The film's soundtrack is quite remarkable and captures thehedonism and recklessness that defines the character's actions. Ifthere is a flaw at all (and it is a minor one), it is that occasionallythe film is a little too calculated for its own good. Liman knows thathe's making something clever and original here, and sometimes has atendency to be a bit self-indulgently flashy. John August's screenplayis excellent, creating fascinating characters and situations andproviding much wit and quotable dialogue. So many of these interlockingcapers end up imitating "Pulp Fiction" but this one remains thrillinglyfresh and true to its own internal logic. "Go" is a great overlookedfilm - definitely one to catch!

do NOT pass "GO"

Probably the most entertainingly fun movie you'll see all year. And this isn't like PULP FICTION. It cuts back to show what's happening to all characters during the same period of time and how they all come together. Which, if you've seen PULP FICTION, isn't what that film did. This is probably the best film along with ELECTION so far up through the summer of 1999 at least, that didn't get promoted right. They could have been huge blockbusters if they were promoted right, because they're that good.GO along with ELECTION are probably the most entertaining movies you'll see this year. ELECTION is hilarious, while GO is more of a dark comedy. The writing is excellent. I laughed like hell with the whole amway thing and how the cop came on like he was gay and was just trying to get them to buy amway. (:The DVD Extras are cool too. They got 3 music videos, (all good except for the NO DOUBT video which is kinda weak), 14 deleted scenes, making-of-featurette, and a audio commentary with the director and editor. Do NOT pass "GO" on DVD

Nice, Entertaining, Good ride movie and bluray.

This review is from: Go [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I totally enjoyed this movie. And the bluray quality was good too (did not see/hear any problems with it). Don't read reviews that focuses on the story as it will spoil the fun of watching it. I can't decide who is hotter; Sarah Polley or Katie Holmes.
