Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control

Bumbling RD inventors (Masi Oka) and Lloyd (Nate Torrence) get out of the lab and into the field as they search to locate latest invention - which has somehow gone missing. When youre used to spending your day inventing the most cutting edge spy equipment known to man, adapting the stealth and guile needed to become a true secret agent doesnt come naturally. Unfortunately the invisibility cloak that the pair recently collaborated on has disappeared, and in order to ensure that it doesnt fall into the hands of KAOS they will have to master the skills of a true spy. But how exactly does one find an object thats invisible to begin with? As the search gets underway, these brainy inventors are given an eye-opening crash course in high-level espionage. Patrick Warburton and Larry Miller co-star in a feature-length comedy that includes surprise cameos from the stars of the 2008 film Get Smart.

Geek Smart

"Is it a mystery? Is it a mystery?I'm spinning out of controlOut of control"(Hoobastank)Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):1.Bruce (Masi Oka) and Lloyd (Nate Torrence) are gadget geeks working for the secret spy agency CONTROL2.They develop an invisibility cloak3.It gets stolen4.They have to get it backThis is a simultaneous spin-off to the movie "Get Smart", allegedly taking part during the time frame of the movie. About five other movie characters appear in this very short (71 minutes) parody, some only as brief cameos. It's not great cinema, but it manages to raise a few chuckles without resorting to potty humor, foul language, tired sight gags or gross-out scenes. Exactly what you thought it'd beFor something straight to DVDIt has no wisdom to impartAnd won't push viewers to "Get Smart"Amanda Richards, August 2, 2008

Pretty darn funny!

Not sure exactly how this came about, but my guess is that they had toomuch of Lloyd and Bruce to use in the movie, and instead of merelyrelegating these scenes to extras on the DVD, they wrote a story aroundthe bits, filmed some new scenes and made a movie out of it. Yes, lookclosely, there's 9 zillion establishing shots of various buildings tofill it out, but hey, it was damn funny, these two hilarious guys gotto be stars for a bit (and showed they could pull it off, which leadsme to hope they get more to do in the Get Smart sequel), and we evengot an uncredited Anne Hathaway cameo! Fun, silly, and I hope that theydo another mini-movie to go with the Get Smart sequel!

Not as funny as I assumed

This review is from: Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control (Amazon Instant Video) On a whim, decided to download because I just wanted something that was light good fun.Long story short. I regret renting this movie.

Enjoyable and cute

This review is from: Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control (DVD) Unlike the first reviewer, I was raised on old school Get Smart! and boughtthis Dvd of Bruce and Lloyd as an appetizer to the film release of Get Smart!. It was good especially since it came with a money voucher at not cost to me to see the film. It wasn't a movie but you could call it a pilotfor a possible series. An idea that might fly since the two main actors,Masi Oka and Nate Torrence would be good as a team. If Heroes doesn't pan out forMasi Oka, he has got another possiblity and I am sure Mr. Torrence wouldn't mind steady work.

Very Disappointing!!!

Well when i saw this at the rental store, i had hope that it would be maybe almost as funny as the first get smart with steve carrel. Boy i was hugely disappointed in every way. The dialogue and jokes were not funny and very cheesy, the story was not at all interesting, the characters were dull and acting was poor, even the little CG they had was bad. The only attention i actually got was when a hot lady popped up in the streets with her dress flowing up. The only funny part of the movie was during the end credits with the blooper or was it supposedly the deleted scenes when they were testing out the hyme android teaching it to hammer some nails. This movie just blows unless you dont mind the low budget performance.

Good, light-hearted entertainment

I watched this flick and I enjoyed it immensely.First things first: is it funny, and is it interesting? YES and YES.The humor is the light-hearted, "Scrubs" kind, and fits well in a movie about two lovable lab-dweebs. (Example: Hot girl does something impressive. Socially awkward lab-geek Lloyd is impressed, but the best response he can muster is: Do you like pie?) There are enough laughs sprinkled throughout, with a little bit of action here and there, so the movie keeps moving at a nice pace. The 71 minutes goes by pretty fast. Those expecting an Oscar-caliber movie of epic proportion with tremendous societal impact and big-budget cgi have been grossly misinformed. Those expecting a light, slap-sticky romp will not be disappointed. And as far as the film's main 'object' - an 'invisible cloak' - well, Harry Potter has an invisible cloak, James Bond has an invisible car, the Fantastic Four have an invisible woman. Movies are all about the fantasy of far-fetched concepts that don't exist in the real world. If you can't or won't buy it, then definitely rent it.

Get Smart's Bruce & Lloyd (Positive Review)

Once "GET SMART" was shown in theatres, now comes straight-to-DVD of Get Smart's Bruce & Lloyd: Out of Control. This film is not a sequel to the first film. Don't be confused. This is a spin-off of Get Smart and it follows the same pattern/timeline from the theatrical version. When Maxwell Smart and Agent 99 are on a mission, Bruce and Lloyd becomes the main leads of this film. Therefore, when Bruce(Masi Oka) and Lloyd(Nate Torrence) has invented an invisbility cloak, the invisibility cloak falls in the wrong hands. With the help of Bruce's girlfriend, Nina(Jayma Mays), they're on a mission to get it back and encounter some lousy CIA agents, double-agent Isabelle and a group of terrorists including the leader of KAOS. After successfully completing the mission, things go back to normal. Nina and Bruce reunites. As for Lloyd, there's a slight chance that he gets the girl named Judy from CONTROL. After watching this film, it isn't all that bad. I believe this is a great idea to see these two characters take on as the main leads. For many years in Hollywood history, Asian men were often portrayed as minor characters, characters that are not often seen, appeared as an extra, bad stereotypes, non-sex symbols, etc. As the world changes, we now see Asian men playing different type of roles in films and TV shows. We also see interracial couples, interracial sex scenes, so on and so forth. In this film, there is a nice interracial couple between Masi Oka and Jayma Mays. Jayma Mays do kiss Masi Oka and also cuddling together at Masi's home. :)Masi Oka and Jayma Mays also appeared as lovers in the #1 hit TV series "HEROES". Get Smart's Bruce & Lloyd: Out of Control is not a terrible spin-off film, it's a great film. See it to believe it.

Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control

i have a decent name for the film Get Smart's Excuse to try to conpeople into spending more money! This is a pitiful attempt o take anaspect of one film (which by all accounts sucks also) and use a spinoff to make more cash, if Get smart was the summer hit of the ear, suremake a spin off/sequel but this is premature at best! the results forget smart are not even registered! Its not like making all three lordof the rings films at once, its a remake of a TV series into a movie, and they rarely ever do super well what chance does it have aainst theother films being released, on te up shot, at least it will be betterthan "meet dave"

Good disc, bad case

This review is from: Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control (DVD) I ordered this movie for pretty cheap so I didn't expect it to be in the best of condition. As soon as I opened the packaging part of the dvd case fell out. It's not so much a problem for me since I worked at a video store and have spares, but others without dvd cases might be more turned off. The most important part is the dvd is in good shape and so is the coverart.

Enjoyable

Nice little show. I'm glad I didn't pay the $19.95 at the stores earlier.

...more like a series of afterthoughts than a fully realized motion picture.

This is what happens when a studio has many funny characters in a blockbuster

Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd happens. Now I have no problem with WBmaking a movie with these guys I mean they were great, heck I don'teven mind having a 72 minute long spin off for them (which is actuallylike 68 minutes when you take out the credits). But don't rush themovie for just for the money give the fans something to enjoy. To methis movie felt rushed and cheap (I know its DTV but come on everythingwas just way to cheap) the jokes were flat, a few of them worked.Anyways Bruce and Lloyd make this cloak that turns you invisible itgets stolen everyone is after it from the CIA to the Maraquayans(however you spell it) and they have X amount of time to get it backbefore their careers are ruined. The movie is really predictable. AnneHathaway has a cameo which doesn't really matter cause she wasn'tfunny. Steve and the Rock don't show up either. Well anyways this movieas you can see is more on the bad side 4 out of ten.

Sorry, Chief…

Zany research and development duo Nate Torrence (as Lloyd) and Masi Oka(as Bruce) head up a hilarious "Get Smart" movie off-shoot about the"KAOS" ensuing over an invisibility cloak. Not convinced? Well... Would you believe Warner Brothers spins-off a couple of funny lines andsituations leftover from their almost simultaneously released "GetSmart" movie re-make? No? Okay... How about "Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control" was accidentallygreen-lighted as a TV series pilot for the now defunct WB during awriter's strike? So, when the strike was over, they didn't know whereto put it. Not buying it? I suggest we file this one under the "Cone of Silence" …^…^… ** Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control (7/1/08) Gil Junger ~Nate Torrence, Masi Oka, Jayma Mays, Larry Miller

writers needed to get smarter

Bruce and Lloyd were very funny as supporting characters in this summer's "Get Smart" movie, and when I saw there was a Bruce and Lloyd DVD available, I snapped it up. What a waste of money. The movie has a couple of chuckles, but it was nowhere near as funny as "Get Smart." Don't waste your time watching this--Lloyd and Bruce are funnier in "Get Smart."

Under-appreciated techno-geeks save the day!

Two under-appreciated patriotic techno-weinies, including Masi Oka,that team up with the cute, but smelly, Jayma Mays to save the countryis a recipe for success. Their ruthless overlord of a boss, played bycomic legend Larry Miller, drains the joy from their otherwisepay-to-play careers at Control as they cope with a situation while the"real" agents 99 and 86 are out of the country on a mission. A spin offthat starts with less talent than many major motion picturessuccessfully combines the time-tested formula of geeks-with-babes toforge an ode to the behind-the-scenes underdogs that, despitethemselves, manage to save the day.

Short Supplement to the GET SMART Movie

GET SMART'S BRUCE AND LLOYD OUT OF CONTROL is a spin-off of the GET SMART movie that was originally released on DVD to coincide with the theatrical release of the GET SMART movie. The movie takes place concurrently with the events of the GET SMART movie and there are a few cameos from stars of GET SMART, including Anne Hathaway.Bruce (Masi Oka) and Lloyd (Nate Torrence) are two guys who work in the Research and Development department of CONTROL. They've been working on a top secret device: an invisibility cloak. During a wild party (in which KAOS attacks CONTROL), their invisibility cloak is stolen by a female spy from Maraguay who intends to sell the cloak to KAOS. With the only non-compromised agents (Smart/86 and 99) already in the field, Bruce and Lloyd have to leave the confines of CONTROL and get the invisibility cloak back before it's sold to KAOS.It should be noted that Jayma Mays is also featured in the movie as Bruce's love interest. I'm a big fan of hers and seeing her in the movie made it that much more enjoyable for me.The DVD has a few extras including the "Control Confessionals" featurette which has the characters of the movie talking into a camera, ala reality tv style. There's also a "real science" featurette about the actual science behind some of the movie's gadgets. Lastly, there are some trailers.GET SMART'S BRUCE AND LLOYD OUT OF CONTROL isn't a gut-busting knee-slapper. However, it does provide some good laughs and is entertaining. It's provides a nice additional sub-story to the main story of the GET SMART movie.

It's Really Not That Bad!

Even though Maxwell Smart is NOT in it, Bruce and Lloyd made it pretty funny. There are about three surprise cameos from Get Smart. This movie takes place the same time as GET SMART does. Someone has taken an invisibility cloak from Control, and it's up to Bruce and Lloyd to get it back before KAOS gets it! I was glad that they played the 'Get Smart' theme song a couple of times, because I thought since Max wasn't in it, they wouldn't play it!p.s. I want to see a 'real' GET SMART 2!!!

Don't Listen to the Others!

Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of ControlIt's not the first time my opinion has differed from the majority, though usually it's a movie others have thought was brilliant but left me in the cold. This is the other way around. I found BRUCE AND LLOYD to be a delightfully silly comedy. In fact, I found it to be far, far more amusing than GET SMART, which for me was ruined by Steve Carell, who I simply don't think is funny. Masi Oka is funny, cute, charming, etc. Nate Torrence is frequently funny, with some priceless scenes (like when he's hitting on the receptionist). The writing is usually very good...again, better than GET SMART. And, miracle of miracles, there isn't one instance of farting or other so-called funny "body" humor. In all, I do recommend this movie for people who want a good laugh. (I really don't see what the negative complaints are all about!)

Bruce and Loyd!

Well it's OK. I really wanted this movie to be great. It's not great. Isee the setup, I see how it could have been good but it falls farshort. The dialogue is just blah. Every scene feels like it could havebeen a lot funnier but it was missing something. Maybe a few more takeswould have helped. Not that it's parent movie Get Smart was much betterso it's not surprising.Fairly lame and only average for a straight to DVD movie.****What was great....the scenes with Patrick Wharburton! The realsmash-em, physical stunts, and overall Three Stooges type of comedy didsucceed! Just needed a lot more of that a less dry humor that fellflat. I really don't know why Himey didn't have a starring role in thismovie. Especially since the successful gags were his scenes! Overallit's a lame movie that really should have been better, a lot better. All the characters are cool, enjoyable but just flat, not funny. Like asitcom that has potential but just needs to be reworked to be funny.Get Smart needed Himey in it's story to be better and Bruce and Loydcan't even get off the tarmac Himey less.
