This is how it is.

Curtis Jackson AKA ''50 Cent'' start's in his latest film, ''Get RichOr Die Trying''. Now, Before you watch this movie. Be warned that thisis partially based upon Curtis Jackson's life. Almost everyone know'sthat he was shot nine times. This is a Graphic, Gritty, re-telling ofone mans struggle to make it in a business thats all to easy to failin. At the start of this movie we see Fifty-Cent as a young boy. Now,obviously with these types of movies, giving spoilers away isn't reallysomething to get in a hiss fit about. Anyone can look on Wikipedia andfind out about someones life. Fifty-Cent is the new ''Eminem'' or soI've heard. His movie partially based upon his life is excellent. They tell the story with style. You can automatically tell that 50 Centgot his two-cent's in. He definitely added his opinions and told aboutthe drug deal's. For any Teenager who loves Rap. This movie isamazingly detailed for it.There are many fault's. Fifty-Cent's acting wasn't one of them.See It.

not bad..

look I'm not gonna say this movie changed the way i look at life orridicule it in any way, i believe 50 cent's performance was greatconsidering he is a musician i think you should give him credit there. The story was one of those ones where u watch it, time goes fast, itsfun, but not inspiring or memorable, i think the 1 star reviews are alittle harsh and we all know it isn't as bad as watching goingoverboard or anything like that, it definitely deserves more than 3stars i think considering its about him as a musician and stars him, itdeserves at least a five star rating but no more than six am a fan of50s music but I'm a fan of film and i will not rate something that ibelieve is trash with my favourite artist in it as a 10 star film, irate films as i perceive their artistic merit and credibilityregardless of who is in it. all in all i give it 6 stars, it may not befor everyone but i think everyone may enjoy it just a little.... - Alex

Why People look down on Movies

I couldn't get over how bad this movie turned out, especially sincethey had a pretty good director (Jim Sheridan) working with them. Afterseeing Sheridan's "In America" I thought he was a pretty good guy, butwhy he picked this film up, I don't know. Every aspect about this filmwas horrible; script, acting, and very predictable. Also, it was justboring. Back to the acting, it just didn't make me believe anything orit didn't capture my attention whatsoever. Wanna know what crappy filmmaking is? Here you go... Just try to avoid this film and see anotherone...1 out of 10

Better than expected

I must admit, I originally had no desire to see this movie, but nowthat I have, I'm glad I did. I wasn't that big a fan of 50 cent's musicand still really am not, but I'm thinking of giving him a secondlisten. No one can deny that he has the mush mouth factor going on dueto his huge teeth, but you also can't deny he has a banging body anddoes pretty decently in this movie. I'm finding myself attracted tohim, but I know that's only because I am attracted to the tale of theMarcus, the character 50 plays. I could feel his pain and understandthe character's hustle. He did what he had to do and when he was shot,he knew it was really time to change the direction of his life althoughhe was already headed in that direction. This movie truly shows that italways seems that when people are ready to make a positive change intheir life, some crap comes along and tries to set you back. Afterwatching this movie, I'm all the more curious about 50's real story. Heseems like a interesting person, if his life is relatively close to themovie. Oddly enough, I'm thinking this movie was better than thesemi-biopic of Eminem's life although Em's movie got better reviews. Why are we so critical of 50's movie and not so much for Em's movie?Like the # of licks to the center of the tootsie pop, the world maynever know. See this movie. It's worth your time. I would have, however, given it a better name. I like to call it "hustlin' tosurvive."

This review summaries what I think about the movie

Thanks to his colossal debut album Get Rich or Die Trying' andcommercial omnipresence, everyone knows the saga of 50 Cent. The realchallenge of his Get Rich or Die Trying' (MTV Films/Paramount) film isto weave humanity into "Fiddy's" mythical journey from small timehustler to bullet-riddled superstar. Despite the assistance ofcelebrated director Jim Sheridan, a winner of two Academy Awards, and atalented supporting cast, Curtis Jackson the man fails to come throughon screen, leaving the audience with what amounts to a feature lengthmusic video.Marcus, 50's film alter ego, is left orphaned after his drug dealingbut glamorously feminine mother is brutally murdered in their smallapartment (there are no traces of the hardcore lesbian mom that therapper candidly portrayed to the media.) Forced to move in with hisgrandparents, the youngster's rebellion and anger is palpable. ActorMarcus John Jeffries's portrayal of young Marcus renders the characterreal in a way that 50 never does.As Marcus, the only emotion that 50 can convincingly convey is anger, anger at his grandparents, at his crew and at the world. When Marcus'sbrash street antics land him in jail and eventually in solitaryconfinement after a brutal shower fight scene, a guard tosses him arazor blade, delivering the implicit message that Marcus should killhimself. Never does 50's performance ever illuminate the tumultuousemotions that his character should be feeling in the hole, even withhim narrating. There is no moment of heart racing fear that Marcusmight actually be contemplating suicide-only the certainty that hischaracter has the brute strength necessary to overcome anything.Everything comes easy to Marcus, even in the midst of his struggle tochange his life from gangster to rapper. He easily wins his girlCharlene, played by Joy Bryant, who seems too good for Marcus despitehis street success and their childhood friendship. Charlene'sunquestionable loyalty and almost conflict free acceptance of hislifestyle isn't realistic, particularly because she's managed to escapethe hood's desperation. Bryant's Charlene is way too smart to remainwith such a thug-even if the sexual chemistry is crazy.Marcus is virtually untouchable as the film's hustling hero. He robs ahigh level rival drug organization with no repercussions and isbasically left to his own devices after an attempt by his formeraffiliates to kill him goes awry. Though he relied on drug money as hissole source of income, after he goes straight, we never see himstruggle to pay for anything from studio time to pamper money. Even hispost-shoot out blacklisting at record companies seems inconsequential;50 and his crew simply decide to start dropping mix tapes. Young Caesar(Marcus's rap moniker) is then immediately embraced by the streets. When the film draws to a close and Young Caesar/50 Cent the legend isborn, nothing seems extraordinary about his rise to fame except itspredictability

a waste of an amazing story

When get rich or die trying' came out I was at the peak of my 50 centobsession. The release day came months later in Australia and so myanticipation was stretched to the max. I was young and this movie wasthe movie to top all movies and at the time I would have loved itweather it was bad or not. over the years my taste in music and movieshas changed a lot. 50 cent is no longer my hero and this is no longerone of my favorite movies. my concerns aren't with the Curtis Jackson'sacting or narration, these were very positive aspects of the film.Curtis also has a very distinct and visible chemistry with both triplea and Terrance Howard who are both always brilliant. my main concernswere with some of the more cliché aspects. the gang dynamic was weakand as if Sheridan was trying to recreate a sopranos like sense to itwhen in reality things would be much more unorganized and dirty. Plusthe characters were so black and white it made it unbelievableespecially For majestic's part. One other major thing is that I thinkthat its a little miss guiding for people to go into the movie thinkingits 50 cent's story when to me Marcus/young Caesar and 50 cent/Curtisare clearly different people. the 50 I've come to know is much morestrategic and intelligent. the movie is an empty dumbed down retellingversion of his story minus the charm. basically what I'm saying is theyprobably could have focused on his character and the excellent littlestories from the time he spent hustling and you would of had amasterpiece enjoyable for the wider movie viewing public. Yet theychose to dumb it down and make it a Hollywood friendly gangster movieabout him finding his father and identity I'm sorry but if you wannaknow who 50 cent really was I suggest you grab his book 'from pieces toweight' with the true stories which in my opinion should have been thebasis for this movie. Otherwise I'd suggest you watch this movie forwhat it is. A Hollywood gangster film.

just plain bad, but 2 great actors

After the success of 8 mile, it was obvious that hollywood would make a clone to cash in. The movie certainly looks very cheap, nothing spectacular, not even in the shootings. The story is predictable 50 cents' mother is killed when he is young, he gets tough, kind of wanting to avenge his mom, becomes a gangster, then a better gangster because his mentor gangster is good at this gangster-job. Predictably, 50 goes to jail, remembers his lost dream of being a rapper, though it was never clear that he wanted to be a rapper. of course he must fight his former crime buddies because no one can "retire" from crime, as we know from countless mafia movies. In the movie as in real life, 50 cent IS a speech impaired rapper, he just mumbles through his songs. This is addressed in the movie, and for fans this brings value to the film, we see 50 struggling with his own lack of clarity. There is a strange side-story in the movie that is not persued and does not add anything, which is sad, because it had real potential. In the movie, 50s mom is killed and until the end we don't know who did it, but it turns out that the two main suspects might also be 50s dad, and in the end it looks like his dad killed his mom, and there could have been some nice struggle in the possible dads over all this. In fact in connection with this side plot we have the movie's one ray of light: Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaie, who plays Majestic, the afformentioned good at gangsterism gangster. He is a superb actor, outclassing anything in the movie (including "Bana" played by the excellent actor from Hustle and Flow). If he was white he would be hailed as the next young Brando, he's that good. Sadly, trapped in this aweful movie he has to give terrible lines. His subtle struggle, not knowing if he is 50s dad, is drowned out, because one does not look for good acting a movie like this. I first noticed this actor in The Bourne Identity (the matt damon one), where he has a small role, but steals every scene he is in.I found the ending the worst part, because as 50 finally makes it onto stage, the winner, the hero, stepping into the limelight, he falls totally flat. just a muscle bound guy with no expression, and oddly no pressence, inspite of his bulked up, schwarzenegger body. Perhaps this total lack of pressence is part of his appeal. Eric B. and rakim, where are you?So if you love 50, you might get something out of this, otherwise stay away, if you are forced to watch it, keep an eye on majestic.

Get Rich or Die Tryin'

50 Cent's movie, which should have been a Puffy bio pic instead is an ode to Supreme (majestic) who 50 wishes was his father. Check out the real story in Street Legends vol. 1 from Gorilla Convict Publications.

You want street? You want real?

Everybody's all up in this board screaming and yelling at each otherover who's more down and who's more legit and who's taken more bulletsto the nuts, but everybody's forgetting that what we're watching *isn'treal*. People, let's remember - it's all scripted and simulated andit's all *fake.* You want real? You want the truth? Go watch "Rize."(http://imdb.com/title/tt0436724/) Seriously.Watch it now. That's the street. That's what's real. That's the voice of the hood. All this "I'm harder than you, I'm tougher than you, I'll pop a cap inyour face if you dare disrespect me!" stuff is BULLSHIT. The realpeople don't want to live that way, and anybody who says otherwisedoesn't have to face the reality of hood life every day. Everybodywants to pretend that they're a real nigga because they own a couple ofNWA albums or something, but that isn't reality.Wake up.Look up.Rize./end preaching.

Pretty good. but not the best

Well i watched my own private screening this evening (i work at a movietheater as a projectionist, so i just canceled dreamer lol) It was apretty good movie to watch, something you don't want to just get up andleave, because its intriguing. The story was not all that developed.Neither was his rise to power. The ending was rushed, but overall itwas still enjoyable. I recommend it only if you like his music (wellduh) because its got those feel good moments (in any movie about asinger) when they get on stage (im sure walk the line will be the sameway) I thought the screenplay was a little cheesy too. Terrence Howard(spelling is bad) was amazing here.. But i keep thinking of hustle andflow because its almost the same movie... just not as good =) Butoverall i give it a 6/10.

i think this movie was really good, it had everything, hot guys, hotchicks, great story line, great music, action, drama, comedy and reallife situations. i can't believe how much hate you guys are giving it.and to tomduo from Miami there was nothing racist about that movie, your claimin that it was made to look like "black" people are criminalsand all that, it wasn't, it was 50 cent's life up on screen, what hesaw , what he dealt with and what he did, its not stero typing nobody,so get your head outta the clouds and come up with a better diss tothis movie.same goes for anyone else thinking this movie was "racist"

Great Movie!

I loved the movie. It was great and kept me guessing and wondering whatwas about to happen. Much better than I expected it to be. It was veryentertaining and I was surprised at the twist and turns that followed. This is a movie I could see over and over again. His acting was up topar with his fellow actors who have done this a long time before him.It was thrilling and had me filled with emotion for what was happening.I think and Emmy or Oscar is in order. He brought out emotions that ididn't even know he had. I'll tell anyone who hasn't seen it to go andsee it. It will give you a different perspective on 50 cent about whyhe says and does and raps about the things he does.

2012-05-09 14:48:47

Very Good!!

This review is from: Get Rich Or Die Tryin' (Full Screen Edition) (DVD) I loved this movie which was based on the life of the rapper 50 cent.

moomot 2012-05-06 22:41:47

Wow, the Bottom 100?

Seriously, this movie is not that bad. I gave it a "7". I don't knowabout any of the rap stuff that others are talking about here. And, Iam not one who listens to rap music. All I know is that this movie wasabout a guy who came from down low and is doing the best he can. Hiscareer is legal now. As for his acting. Near the end of the movie Ireminded my wife that this is his first acting job. It was not painfulto watch for me. He does a decent job. I am seriously skeptical of thelow scores here. Lots of people hate rap. Lots of people who love raphate 50. Whatever, it is a decent movie. I don't like what he singsabout, and I don't favour his music, but this movie does not below inthe company its in.

Great for what it is

IMDb reviewers are real sackless sheep. Everybody is bashing 50 Centbut very little of these rants posing as reviews actually speak aboutthe actual movie. Let's get one thing straight. If you hate 50 so muchthat you cant even write a partial review on this movie don't reviewit. Im not fond of 50 as a rapper and as a person but that is a lousyreason to give this movie bad reviews. Get Rich Or Die Trying is loosely based on the life of Curtis Jacksonand based on that reason its pretty good. 50 plays himself and thereare good performances from Terrance Howard as well as Joy Bryant whoplays 50's girlfriend in the movie. Bill Duke is pretty good as theboss of the organization 50 links up with. The movie covers hischildhood as well is how he became to be a rapper. One might questionthe authenticity of the story being told in this movie(this being themovie's real flaw) but as far as entertainment goes I enjoyed myself. Its a shame when people allow the nut-swallowing groupies that run amokon IMDb dictate to you what is quality movies. These weirdos think thatdefending movies that were rightfully panned like Freddy Got Fingered,Nothing But Trouble, Batman and Robin, The Musketeer, The Black Dahliamakes them hip and cool and not pathetic posers in dire need of a life. And as far as acting goes last time I checked, Sylvester Stallone,Arnold Schwarzenegger, Leonardo Dicaprio, Brad "Musty Arm"Pitt(overrated beyond belief), Chuck Norris are not real actors! To allof you reasonable people out there do not allow the circus freaks onIMDb to tell you what counts for quality cinema because you will bedisappointed every time. There are a lot of great movies that nevermade the Top 250. Just goes to show you the bandwagon mentality ofthese pseudo intellectual rodents. And as far as the sheep go, Iwouldn't waste time trying to reason with you. I'd rather beat yousenseless when I see you in public you gutless cowards! Go fawn overthe ever-so-overrated Quentin Tarantino like the spineless groupies youare.PS: to the token that apologized online for 50 Cent instead of writingan actual review on the movie, grow some sack will ya? You and yourfraudulent Caucasian friends deserve each other. Duplicitous vermindeserve each other. BRING ON THE UNHELPFUL VOTES!!!

selfishbastid 2012-05-05 04:48:17

He looks like the missing link.

I have nothing personal against 50 Cent, don't buy his records, kind of view him as a flash in the pan. But after being saturated with his face for the past 3 years I figured, why not see what all the hype is about...yeah his "music" is bubble-gum wannabe gangster rap that couldn't hold a candle to the originators of the genre...(i.e. N.W.A.,Schooly-D,etc.) The music will be forgotten in 5 years time...so maybe the movie will give him some validity, let's see if he can act. BAD MOVE, this guy makes DMX look like Sidney Poitier. The whole movie is the classic template, just plug in a one gear, multi-millionaire so-called rap artist. It just wasn't entertaining, I wasn't expecting the Godafther, but jeez...what a waste. So many other movies, steeped in hood reality have delivered far more...Menace 2 Society and Boyz N' The Hood all the way back to Cooley High. Hopefully the relatively dismal box office receipts will keep this guy out of the movies so he can concentrate on selling dull, bland pop music to the mouth breathing masses who hail him as the king of the streets.

Realistic

I don't know what you are talking about whoever wrote that firstcomment about this movie, you obviously have never seen such realismyourself. This film is very real to the way things happen in rougher areas thatsurround us. This film touches on details about the hard faced natureof people and how you have to be bad to survive without being a victimall your life, and if seriously thought this film was a waste of timeyou are in my opinion very stubborn. Okay.. it could of been better, but the script was fine, the whole film was fine, and I think 50 Centgave a reasonable performance. He and the creators showed us the gangrelated inside of the "ghetto", they showed us how evil life can bewhen you sell drugs for a living, when you have enemies all your life, and are constantly looking behind you when you turn the corner. Thefilm gave us realism, it let us know how if you are brought up in thatkind of atmosphere, with those kind of people, its bloody hard to getout.. alive. 50 Cent turned to music, it was his saviour. He played a very hard faced, but calm and collect thug, with heartunder his thick skinned and gangster image, all he wanted was security, peace of mind.Overall I gave the film a 6.5, rounded up to 7 I suppose, it could ofbeen better, and it did drag on a bit, but he played the part well, andhe showed us how money makes the world go round, and anyones life is asacrifice if it means more money.Dan S - p1nk1e@hotmail.com

Some people are being so unfair to 50 Cent....

I seen this movie and I think it was really unfair all the crap peopleare saying about 50 Cent. I thought he did a really decent job for hisfirst time acting. This is just one of those movies you HAVE to see foryourself and not listen to all the hype.I really enjoyed getting adeeper look at what 50 what he is today and hope he makes acting aregular part of his career. OF course Terrence Howard gave a reallygreat performance. I always enjoy watching him. I thought 50 playedwell off of him and I would really like to see them in another movietogether. But really don't let all the negative hype be the reason youdon't go out and see a really great movie that I believe anyoneopen-minded enough will enjoy.

virgoladi78 2012-05-02 18:08:43

Not all rappers suck on screen...

OK yes, 50 Cent's acting sucked, as did the movie (like many of usexpected anything less when we plopped down our money at the boxoffice) ..But I'm upset with the lack of respect some users have for thoseactors/actresses that DID make great careers (not always great MOVIES,but great careers) ... transitioning from rapper to actor ...Like LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Eve, Oscar nominee Will Smith, Mos Def,Mark Wahlberg (if you could call him a rapper, formerly known as MarkyMark) and Tupac Shakur ...Other than Tupac (RIP) most of the above have now transitioned fromserious actors to comedic buffoons but they still have a pretty goodhistory in film and television ...Now Nas, DMX, and the barely-acted-in-his-own-movie Eminem, I canunderstand but don't discredit the work of so many others just becausethey and Curtis Jackson sucked ass and people paid them for it ...
