Get Him to the Greek

Aaron Greenberg (Hill) gets things done. The ambitious 23-year-old has exaggerated his way into a dream job just in time for a career-making assignment. His mission Fly to London and escort a rock god to L.A.s Greek Theatre for the first-stop on a 100-million tour. His warning Turn your back on him at your own peril. British rocker Aldous Snow (Brand) is both a brilliant musician and walking sex. Weary of yes men and piles of money, the former front man is searching for the meaning of life. But that doesnt mean he cant have a few orgies while he finds it. When he learns his true love is in California, Aldous makes it his quest to win her backright before kick-starting his world domination. As the countdown to the concert begins, one intern must navigate a minefield of London drug smuggles, New York City brawls and Vegas lap dances to deliver his charge safe and, sort of, sound. He may have to coax, lie to, enable and party with Aldous, but Aaron will get him to the Greek.

A worthy spin-off to Forgetting Sarah Marshall?

"When the world slips you a Jeffery, stroke the furry wall."Forgetting Sarah Marshall is one of my favorite movies ever (noexaggeration, I probably could watch it once a week without gettingtired of it), so it goes without saying that I had mile-highexpectations for this spin-off. And while Get Him to the Greek isn'tbad by any means, I don't think it lived up to either Forgetting SarahMarshall or it's own potential.Russell Brand and Jonah Hill are funny guys, so it may come as asurprise that the two funniest people in the movie were Rose Byrne andSean Combs. They were both hilarious. Brand's character seems to bemore reigned in this time around, and doesn't get to be nearly as funnyas he was in the previous movie, where he stole the show. The great(and hilarious) songs from FSM were also replaced with some thatweren't nearly as funny or clever. Hill gets some funny moments, butthe stuff with his girlfriend (the awesome Elisabeth Moss in a smallrole) just never came off as particularly interesting or genuine. I getthat the filmmakers were going for that mix of humor and relationshipstuff that made FSM have such a wide appeal, but that's a tricky thingto pull off and the formula doesn't work as well, here.I'm sure my review seems harsh, and I don't mean it to be that way. GetHim to the Greek is a decent comedy. Some parts were quite funny. Butto be honest, as the movie went along the jokes began to fizzle outuntil I was almost bored for the last 15 minutes. Check it out, but Idoubt you'll be in a hurry to see it again soon.

Did not recieve two movie disc as stated

This review is from: Get Him to the Greek (2-Disc Unrated Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) The disc cover says it includes a blue-ray and digital copy, I did receive the blue-ray disc however the other disc that was supposed to be a digital disc copy was a bonus movie disc and did not contain the actual movie. Plan on reporting to amazon.

Greatest delivery ever

This review is from: Get Him to the Greek (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) I needed this movie for an early Christmas present and didn't get to order it till three days before I needed it. It came two days after I ordered it. Never have I ordered something that came so quickly. I greatly appreciated that.

Stop green-lighting these POS. Like seriously!

I don't get it.Did a bunch of people actually agree to spend money and time and efforton this putrid pile of excreta without having their kids and pet dogsheld at gun-point? I'm disturbed at the amount of good reviews thismovie is generating. Do people really find scenes where a character isforced to shove a packet of drugs up his rectum (in an airport securityline no less!) and then is forced to expel it out again- funny?Seriously? Like. Really? This could have been tear-your-eyes-out funny(c'mon! you had Russel Brand to play with!), but the film-makers don'tknow when to quit being crass and excessively OTT with racist, sexist, juvenile humor. And who the heck okayed Sean Diddy for ANY role, hecan't act much less be comedic! I wanted to slap him silly every timehe came on screen and masticated his lines. Come to think of it, Iwanted to slap everyone silly for wasting 109 minutes of my life! Noteto Jonah Hill- Just being fat isn't funny. For the love of Gawd, go ona diet and invest in a treadmill and make a movie of that. I guaranteeit will be a huge success. The ONLY redeeming part were the songs. Sad, right? But I actuallyfound them funnier and quite original than this entire depressingpremise.

Liked it but not what I expected

Firstly, I love Russell Brand. Secondly, I have seen but pretty muchhated My Favorite Year. I thought this was going to be the same thing. It is and then it isn't. It's not as much of a comedy to be honest. Andthey totally sell it as a comedy, which they do with all Apatow moviesand I don't know why. Forgetting Sarah Marshall to me was barely acomedy because it's about a guy who is depressed the whole time. Thisisn't really that different. Just in this case it's a drug addict rockstar who is pretty much headed on the road that many people have takenin recent years and ended up as a breaking news obit at the top of thiswebsite. It's another bromance as well, which is fine by me. All thesemovies are more sentimental than they'd have you believe in thetrailers. I personally think that's detrimental to the movie because itmakes people expect one thing and get another and then write on theinternet how disappointed they are. Problem is, it's not a bad movie. It's actually a good movie about the record industry and people and howthey treat each other in such a ridiculous lifestyle with some funnybits thrown in.I love Russell Brand and Jonah Hill together. I think they have thebest chemistry. Their scenes together, pretty much the whole film, weremore personal than funny. The more comedic parts usually happen whenother people enter the mix. P. Diddy, for example, had a much largerrole than I expected and he was okay in it. I probably would have castan actor with more comedy experience, as well as choosing a differentrock star cameo for Jackie Q's other love interest. But apart from thatI really have no complaints. Perhaps I would have used more of Aldous'songs throughout the film, but that's because I quite like Brand'svoice. I don't know that it was necessary for the plot.Other stuff. It's an R for a reason. There's sex humor and drug stuffgoing on. There are some breasts but not much else in the nudity dept.that I can recall. I guess I'd recommend it for people like me who likeEnglish rock stars and comedies with warm fuzzies.

Russell Snow or Aldous Brand, who's best?

I'd give GHTTG a resounding 10/10, some great performances all round, especially from P Diddy who showed himself to have fine comic timingwith some pretty decent acting skills. You could argue he was onlyplaying himself, but he was playing himself on Jeffrey, which isanother thing altogether. I know a lot of people have a problem withRussell Brand, but this film wouldn't have been the same without him. Icannot think of a single other actor who could have done the job sowell, but this probably comes down to the fact that Russell, himself,is not exactly a million miles away from Aldous when it comes toexcess. Truth be known, Aldous is probably a lightweight compared toBrand, and would need to make his excuses and leave when the nakedSiamese twins sat astride a donkey holding a lucky bag full ofnarcotics rode into the suite. I honestly couldn't fault it, not a dullscene in the whole near two hours and it flew by."You can't outrun me, I'm a black man."

Extras not included

This review is from: Get Him to the Greek (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) The movie worked okay. It was a little scratched, but that was easily fixed. The main problem was the fact that what I received was actually a rental movie from what I think was Blockbuster. I was only able to watch the movie itself, the extras were not included on this dvd. I wasn't bothered too much by this, but I hope the person who I bought this for doesn't mind either. I would have appreciated knowing this was a rental before I bought it. Other than that, and considering the price, I was happy with it.

So random, but still pretty damn funny

Yeah sure this has random scenes in it a LOT in order to funny, but Ican't really complain about that much cause the scenes that they wantit to be funny, is actually pretty hysterical. Every characters in thiswas hysterical to watch, especially cause of the funny but awkwarddialogue that is exchange between the characters. P.Diddy was actuallypretty good in this film as well, especially when he goes haywire. Thestory is pretty simple, it's about a rocker that has a name that shouldbelong in some Harry Potter book hits rock bottom or just the lowestpoint in his career and the character played by Jonah Hill tries to gethim to a Greek concert with the permission of the producer P.Diddy, although he doesn't allow it at first. Anyways there is a lot of randomfunny stuff that happens along the way, although the ending is actuallyquite predictable it's still a hilarious film even if the plot istypical of getting a guy from point A to point B. It's not a smartcomedy or a clever one, but it sure as hell a hilarious one.7.4/10

Great

Unexpectedly funny, with many celebrity cameos, very grotesque on-drugscharacters... Develops the same charm as "Fear and loathing in LasVegas" while maintaining a certain message and character development. The movie picks up issues most people (obviously - judging by otherreview s here on IMDb - not all) have thought or dreamed about. Howwould it be to go anywhere anytime you want, have any woman you want, use drugs whenever you want. Would it be a lonely life, is itdestructive? What would you do or react if you were thrown into such alifestyle, if only for a few days? This movie made me laugh heartily while giving me things to thinkabout. Absolutely grand and absolutely hilarious.WARNING: Expect this movie to be an underachiever concerning ratingsbecause of moralists all over the world though. So if you're an openminded person, easily add 20% to your average rating and enjoy!Very fun movie.

Funny Movie, Fast Shipping

This review is from: Get Him to the Greek (2-Disc Unrated Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) This movie has so many laugh out loud moments. Very adult, totally halarious. I got the movie less than a week from the time I ordered it. Great seller!

One of the best movies of 2010

Me and my mate saw this movie as an advanced screening in Sydney onSunday. The cinema was packed! But we didn't care as we were laughingfrom beginning to end - a fantastic consistency of laughs throughoutthe whole movie and likable characters should put this title to the topof your "movies to watch" list. There aren't many sick jokes, including dirty slap-stick comedy. Whichmakes this easier to watch with family or relatives. One thing I found though, was that many scenes that were in thetrailer/s aren't in the actual film.Overall, if your looking for a good time (and if you loved "Superbad"),check out "Get him to the Greek."

I feel like I have seen this movie many times before.

I have been a fan of Russell Brand for a while now, but not for hismovies. This is actually my first film of his that I have seen. I gotto know him from his various appearances on Letterman and ConanO'Brien. Anyway, I was excited to see one of his films finally. JonahHill plays a normal guy who works as an intern in the offices of amusic business and gets the unwitting opportunity to pitch a concertidea to his boss (Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs), that involves bringingRussell's character back to the States for a concert in L.A.Unfortunately, the Director/Writer of the film picks a tired, overusedcharacter design in the guise of the typical drug-ridden, big-haired,British-1980s-like star who has seen better days and needs a come-backscenario that has been seen and heard time after time. The comedyunfolds methodically in the beginning, dishing out the laughs at a slowboil. Or, at least, it felt like that. The movie starts out slow in thebeginning, gets going in the middle but crashes in the end. By the timeyou get to the end of the movie you do not like any of the charactersand the message, although received is ignored because we have heard ita million times. Brand is very talented. He has a wonderful scene wherehe calls his ex-girlfriend and finally you begin to like this guy, butit is a little too late. Hill just seemed to be there, although he hadhis moments. Diddy steals the show. He has the most laughs but likeeveryone else in the movie you just want to punch him out. What we havehere is a cute, funny, enjoyable attempt and a film worth seeing atleast once, but overall it is repetitive and unoriginal. It felt likethey needed to force the comedy out and needed a Herculean effort justto execute, even, the potty-humor.

Funny movie

I would definitely recommend buying the movie. It's a great continuation of this rock star's life from Getting over Sarah Marshall.

"Fat, Drunk and Stupid is no way to go through life, son"

Apologies to the writers of "Animal House", but Dean Wormer's commentto Flounder is just so apropos to the character(?) played by JonahHill.I tried to convince our friends to choose something else besides this, given all of the reviews I'd read and the trailers that I'd seen. But,someone else was paying, so I went along, figuring it couldn't be THATbad. Well, a couple of our friends walked out within 10 minutes and sawa different movie. Wish I'd followed their lead. This movie was vulgar for the sake of being vulgar and gross for thesake of being gross. If there was supposed to be a message, it was lostin the tsunami of bodily functions, profanity, drugs and alcohol thatnever stopped. All in all, a waste of time and money to anyone outside the 13-25demographic. Then again, that's where the cash must be nowadays,Hollywood keeps targeting them almost to the exclusion of the rest ofus.

Don't listen to the reviews!

This was a really good movie! Was it better than Forgetting Sarah Marshall? No, but not too many movies are. Was it a really funny movie with an AMAZING soundtrack? YES! One person who reviewed this claimed he was a big fan of Family Guy and that is just mindless nonsense. If you want a good film with REAL humor and great music, check it out!

Great Hilarious Summer Comedy

In the soft chewy center of every Apatow movie there is a heartwarmingmessage and that somehow has always flowed naturally with the movie nomatter how raunchy. In Get Him to the Greek it didn't workout so well,it was kinda forced. Also, this movie never felt like it had a real lead. The movie is a spin-off of a supporting character from the movie"Forgetting Sarah Marshall" which in like every Apatow movie thesupporting characters are the funniest parts, so what could go wrongwhen you make a movie from the funniest parts of an Apatow movie.Themessage get forced in at the last minute because the story isn't makingany progress because jokes are being told every 5 seconds its not a badthing but it kills the buzz at the last 15 mins and slows down thisreally fast paced movie. The movie starts funny and it just gets crazierand more raunchy as it goes but the message slows it down and it feelsout of place plus this brought memories from Walk Hard the othermusician Apatow movie which in the directors cut has 35 minutes in thecomeback phase of the artist. It feels like Apatow liked that so muchthat he picked his other character that sings and made a movie out ofit. Walk hard is a more quotable movie but Get him to the Greek isbetter but unlike Walk Hard its dated thanks too way to many popculture references and cameos which was the bad thing with Funny Peopleway to many cameos there are all funny but not all of them arenecessary. The movie is really funny.Russell Brand is insane,Jonah Hillis funny but he has done better.Diddy steals every scene he is in butwhat made this movie is the insane amount of not giving a crap thatRussell Brand brings he is the Rock Star of comedy and the f'd upmoments are really f'd up even for Apatow, the dildo scene washilarious.Too sum up.The movie is really enjoyable and hilarious. The heartwarmingmoment was out of place but well executed to a certain degree.RussellBrand is top-notch.And I know I mentioned Apatow names a bunch of timesbut this is really Director Nicholas Stollers movie.8/10 It's a really funny movie but it wont be as memorable as otherApatow produced or directed films Rent it

ChaCha Puddlewinks 2012-05-02 03:19:35

Spectacularly Unfunny

The movie opens with a music video from Russell Brand's rock starcharacter that is laugh out loud funny. Sadly, save one other scene, that is the only time I actually laughed for the entire running time(which felt like three hours.) I snickered a little, I went hmmmm, Ismiled a bit but as far as genuine gut-busters there were hardly any.As it wore on I started paying close attention to the audience (andthis was 9pm on a Friday night, where many folks on first dates weredesperate to latch on to a shared experience like, say, laughingtogether) and found they were behaving exactly as I. Scattered laughsfrom different parts of the theater, but no communal hilarity where thewhole audience cracks up as one. The Apatow cash cow snuffed it on thisone. Clearly the company is more focused on being prolific than funnyand it shows. Serious, stay the hell away until you can see it for freesomewhere and only then if you've seen every other available comedyknown to man. Major disappointment from all concerned, who I've enjoyedimmensely in the past but not at all this time around.

Non-Stop Madness!

Nicholas Stoller's 'Get Him To The Greek' is a film that never promisedpath-breaking Cinema, so it's non-stop madness, doesn't really gulp ina bad taste. It's a stupid film, with idiotic moments, but one can'tdeny that you laugh in some of the portions, at the right time! 'Get Him To The Greek' is about a rock-star, who's in the dumps. Entry,a low-level talent scout at Pinnacle Records, who makes the appointedrock-star come back in the day. Some jokes are truly hilarious. The funniest is the one, where JonahHill is forced by Brand to put up drugs in his bum! At the same time, some moments are absurd and very unfunny. The Threesome Sequence ishorrible and fails to evoke a inch of smile. What made them to eventhink a sequence like that?? Nicholas Stoller's direction is fair. His writing, is flawed. RobertYeoman's Cinematography is average. Acting wise, Jonah Hill isfantastic. He handles himself wonderfully even the most absurdsituations. Russell Brand is bland. For him, making morbid faces andexpressions is humor! Elisabeth Moss is flawless. A true talent! RoseByrne is perfect. On the whole, Watch this one if must. Not really recommended!
