A fun adventure, but a cookie-cutter and ridiculous plot spoils it.

G-Force, the family adventure by producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates ofthe Caribbean), isn't a bad movie by any count and works as a fun kidsmovie. But a tired and formulaic plot means the movie is no'must-watch' by any means and caters mostly to the little ones. Thestory follows a specially trained team of secret agent guinea pigs thatwork for the US government. Their mission is to stop an evilbillionaire (Bill Nighty) who manufactures home appliances from takingover the world through a microchip he has planted in them.To begin with the positives, the animation is top-notch. The guineapigs look very photo-realistic and after a few minutes you forgetthey're CGI. There is an inherent cuteness factor to them, and justlike last year's Alvin and the Chipmunks, the filmmakers know that thiswill be the biggest draw for kids and their parents. There are plentyof jokes to keep a smile on your face (although the toilet humor getsold after a while). But that brings me to the story. How many times have you heard this:"Evil genius wants to take over the world and only the unlikeliest ofheroes can save the world."? Too many to count, I imagine. And G-Forcefits right into that category. The plot is tired and doesn't attempt tobring anything new to the table. There are subplots strangely similarto last year's Bolt, and the finale has an uncanny resemblance toTransformers. Aside from being predictable from the very start, thebiggest problem here comes out in the final reels – the villain'smotivations are laughably ridiculous. As if it wasn't hard enough tostomach the improbability in an evil billionaire's plan to take overthe world by installing timed microchips in every home appliance hemanufactures, the final act tries to implement a twist so ridiculousand far-fetched that one wonders what was going on in their mind whencoming up with it. Sure, kids will chew it up, but adults are sure togasp at the screen at the stupidity of it all. Still, lessons arelearned and there's a bit of emotional quotient towards the end thatmakes partially saves it.Another problem is the action scenes. There are too many of them, andmost of them are uninvolving. The movie opens with a 10 minute longcovert operation that gets tiring a quarter of the way through. Andevery other ten minutes or so comes another chase or mission that onlyserves as eye-candy and gets monotonous and unfocused, especially inthe finale. The special effects are great, but what's the need forexploding cars and buildings in a kid's movie? The voice acting is impressive. Sam Rockwell, Penelope Cruz, andNicolas Cage do a great job bringing their characters to life. BillNighty plays a stock villain with no character development ormotivation, and it comes across badly. Zach Galifianakis impresses asthe leader of the team, but Will Arnett is wasted in a small and tooserious of a role for a comedian of his caliber. So is G-Force recommended? Mostly if you have kids or are between 3-13years old. It's not a bad movie by a stretch (it's much better thanlast year's Beverly Hill Chihuahua) and you will not get bored in thetheaters, but it's a shame that the movie could have been so much more. They had an interesting bunch of characters on screen, butunfortunately they settled on making cookie-cutter Hollywood fare thansomething truly unique.Rating – 2.5 out of 5 stars.

G-Force has a script on autopilot, assuming that any old assortment of fart jokes, cheesy one-liners, and chase scenes will be enough to appease tots.

A Grade, an example of what movies should be like

I totally disagree with all the naysayers about this move. It's a goodmovie amongst a stream of recent rejects.more and more nowadays producers/directors put a lot of emphasis onmaking things look off the page but the storie/acting suck, everythinghas to be shock value, this translates to all forms of media too.Terminator 4, The Final Destination 4 and District 9, Dark Knight are afew recent ones that come to mind. IMO these movies were very boring, predictable, in some cases no sense of storyline and highly over-hyped.Then you have G-Force and Ice Age 3, they have everything, good comedy, action, stunning visuals and a decent storyline that you can careabout. Whats wrong with movies that the whole family can enjoy?Disney/Pixar and the likes deliver this time and time again in thereprimarily CGI movies.Everything doesn't have to be violent & dark.

The digital hijinx aren't great. And despite a committed voice cast that includes two Oscar winners, the jokes aren't all that either.

1 Plexiglas ball sporting 1 hamster was fine for Disney's Bolt. Along comes Bruckheimer -- now it's 3 Plexiglas balls with 4 hamsters, er, guinea pigs, and 1 Transformer. Seems he's hell bent on excess.

Great family fun!!

I thought this film was great,i don't understand why it didn't get ahigher score. The storyline was fast paced, the animation and effects superb and theguinea pigs were generally funny.I thought the cast really made the characters come alive,I would definitely recommend this for families and children, the people giving it a bad review are not those whom it was made for.It is simply just a fun action film for kids, its's not trying to be atarentino masterpiece, Disney did a great job on making another greatflick for the family! The play-station game is great too!!

GForce

This review is from: G-Force (Three-Disc DVD/Blu-ray Combo +Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I bought this DVD for my grandchildren. They love animal related shows, so I thought this would be good for them. I was wondering if at ages 3 & 4 they would be too young for it, however. They now have seen parts of it, enjoyed what they saw, and were not frightened by it. As they grow older, I am sure they will watch it again and again. I thought it was pretty funny.

Who cares what adults think, right?

With these type of movies all that matters is that every 5 year old loves the movie and shouts out in unison "poop in his hand" when the moment comes in the movie. That's all well and good. Every 5 year old will give this movie an A and if you are a parent you must take your child to see it.That's what the producers are counting on, and they could not care less if adults are even interested. I wanted to fall asleep half way through. It's boring, dreadful, awful story and guinea pigs don't really need to be in 3D.. At least in the past, the producers of these animated features tried to throw something in every once in a while to thank the adults for coming with their little Sally or Johnny.Think Shrek, Big, Toy Story, etc. This has none of that. Bring a book or a puzzle with you. Little Sally or Johnny will absolutely love it, you, not so much!

Really there's no reason to see this but if you really need to satisfy your guinea pig fix, hit the local pet store. It's cheaper and far more entertaining.

A team of highly trained rodents use their combined skills in covert special-ops

Who doesn't like guinea pigs? I wouldn't be surprised if Cavy salesrise after the impression these CG 3-D specimens create in the PGaudience. Their mouths alone are cutely depicted and entertaining intheir own right. I had read a small unflattering local review and didn't want to wastemy time. My 8 yr. old Son, however, got his own idea from the trailers, and wondered how a "review" could possibly say it was "no good" as Ihad reported. So I took he and his 10 yr. old buddy to the matinée.I'll admit there were a couple of wordy moments where the illusion wasbroken for me, but on the whole, with the involving 3-D effects, therewere enough chuckles and action to leave me wondering why it wastrashed. I've seen much worse. I liked it better than Alvin & theChipmunks, and Up... but I think Monsters VS Aliens was morere-watchable.As we left the chilly theater to enter the hot afternoon, I asked theboys what they thought. "It was awesome!" Well, not my exact thoughtsbut it wasn't a bad distraction from more serious current affairs.

Producer Bruckheimer and...director...Hoyt H. Yeatman Jr. see no stylistic difference between the frenetic derring-do of G-Force and the atmosphere of such Bruckheimer hits as Con Air or The Rock.

Cathy Jakicic 2012-05-02 08:02:45

What happens when Disney meets Jerry Bruckheimer? You get a whole new kind of rodent, but not necessarily a better one.

Not bad, not great, just "good"

Personally, i thought this movie was fine. Its one of those movieswhere you watch it and you don't regret it, but you don't really talkabout it. You'd watch it maybe 2-3 times before it wore off. I think a lot of people are either trying to compare this movie to aDisney classic, which it's not. It's just a little filler till theirnext project. Or most people haven't seen it at all. What would of helped the movie would have been different voices forboth "Blaster" and "Juarez" as to be blunt, their rather annoying. One of the best parts of the movie is when Darwin and Harvey aretogether as there's some funny bits during this period. Overall, if it's on you wouldn't regret watching it, and it's worthrenting.7/10

dennis-77 2012-04-25 01:07:07

Not as good as it could have been

I saw the 3D version of the film, which didn't really add much to theoverall spectacle, mostly because, I think, in trying to make itavailable in both 2D and 3D, they've not used 3D to its fullest extent.Other than that, the film was just there. It had entertaining moments, the car chase especially, but that was about it. Plus, every time therewas a "moral moment", the whole thing slowed down so badly. I don'tknow if it's just me misremembering things but the kiddie films of mychildhood either didn't have moral moments or managed to camouflagethem into the story better. The voice acting was good, even if I know that Sam Rockwell can do waybetter than that. Trying to figure who the hamster was drove me crazy, and I shall now hang my head in shame for not catching that it wasSteve Buscemi. Nicholas Cage does a bang up job as Speckles, and nowthat I know it's him, I can see how they've animated the character tofit his acting ticks.

Derek Malcolm 2012-04-24 11:53:35

Nowhere near the originality of anything from Pixar.

2012-04-24 02:04:28

I literally fell asleep after 10 minutes

After seeing harry potter 6 in theaters i decided with my friend to goand see this movie. I really didn't have a clue what it was about ijust went cause it was 3-D. So i expected a pretty good movie cause itwas Disney it was in 3-D But after 10 minutes of a dumb plot this filmfalls under the bottom of terrible movies I've seen. The story couldn'tbe any more foolish. A guy is gonna take over the world and 3 guineapigs yeah i know have to stop him. That story has always been used inmovies and it never comes out good. The movie wasn't funny at all, Thecharacters are mediocre, and the action scenes put me to sleep. Overallthis movie was a waste of minutes and me and my friend left the theaterand i felt like throwing the glasses at the screen. Do yourself a favoror to your families and go see something better the audience hardlylaughed only a few chuckles. 1 Out of 10 for Razzie Picyure of theyear.
