Its graduation weekend, and Sandy Channing, the popular class president of her small-town high school, should be enjoying the time of her life. But when her friends start disappearing, Sandy discovers they have unwittingly awakened the vengeful spirit of a girl they wronged long ago. Fighting for her sanity, Sandy must unlock a dark secret from her own past before its too late.
Remember all your friends from school? Can you remember all the schoolmates you dated, partied with, cruised and hung out with? Or have you forgotten a few acquaintances? I'll look at a yearbook and my sister will have to remind me "You dated her in your sophomore year", or "You were best friends' senior year". But what if your friends start to disappear, time is altering, and no one remembers them except you. Strange, right? That's what Sandy (Carly Schroeder - Lizzie McGuire) thinks in Forget Me Not, when her friends Jake (Micah Alberti - All My Children), Hannah (Brie Gabrielle - Hannah Montana), Lex (Jillian Murray - The Graves), Chad (Zachary Abel - The Secret Life of the American Teenager), TJ (Sean Wing - You Again), and Layla (Chloe Bridges - Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam) begin disappearing, one at a time. It all begins when the group of friends, in a post graduation celebratory game of cemetery tag, includes a strange, nameless young lady, who, at the end of the game stands on the edge of a cliff and asks Sandy "Do you remember me?" before jumping. Soon after, her friends start to disappear and the timeline changes with nobody remembering the missing friends. Cue the flashbacks with a young Sandy (Courtney Briggs - The Gold Retrievers), and her friend from the orphanage Angela (Bella Thorne - Big Love) playing in the graveyard and picking flowers; forget-me-nots'. (I didn't see that one coming) Two events happen in the past that shape the events of the future. First Sandy brings her friends to play in the cemetery and Angela becomes jealous; and the friends play a prank on Angela in the graveyard one night that puts her in a coma six years before. Jump to the present, Angela is still in a coma, the friends are still missing, and Sandy is the only one who remembers them but the remaining friends think she's losing her mind. The main cast is relatively young, and don't have a large resume to lean on, but they carry the range of emotions from not-a-care-in-the-world high school graduates, to confusion and fear with at least a horror movie believability. There are small roles for names like Barbara Bain (Mission Impossible, Space 1999), Christopher Atkins (Blue Lagoon), and Dan Gauthier (Son in Law) give credibility to the film but in no way take away from the performances of this young cast.Special Features:Deleted ScenesAlternate EndingsPhoto GalleryTrailerKarl's Scores:Acting - B+Setting - ASpecial Effects - B+Creep Factor - ATension - AWhat the Heck Moments - Oh MyOverall - A+Smaller budget and "B" horror films seem to be more unique and have more passion then their big budget counterparts, and Forget Me Not is one of these. With a lesser known cast that is trying to make a name for themselves, and without a big effects budget, this film relies on a good script and passionate actors. Carly Schroeder turned in an amazing performance as the haunted Sandy, with the remaining cast assisting her voyage to insanity with the supportive disbelief you would expect from high school friends. Coupled with an exceptional plot twist, Forget Me Not is an unforgettable thrill ride, if you remember it.ComicsOnline give Forget Me Not 5, I remember 4, wait 3, I recall 2, I forget, maybe 1, no, it's definitely 5 memory lost friends out of 5.Pick up your copy of Forget Me Not on DVD at Amazon.com.Keep ComicsOnline.com at the top of your favorite for more horror reviews and news.
FORGET ME NOT is a tale about eight high school friends with a terrible secret. Sandy Channing (Carly Schroeder) seems to be the only one who notices that her friends are disappearing one-by-one in grisly "accidents". Of course, we know as well as Sandy that supernatural eeevil is at work! We know this due to the fact that each new victim is stalked and killed by a growing number of hideous ghouls, only to be erased from the memories of the survivors! Sandy must somehow solve this mystery before everyone is gone. Appearances are a bit deceiving, as the secret finally comes out. FORGET ME NOT is a great chiller w/ an above-average cast...
First give away, of a cheap production besides the straight to DVD is lack of money to pay for subtitling. I guess if you're hearing impaired you aren't worth the added expense.Second give away, are effects such as zombies that are flashed so quickly across the screen that the audience doesn't see how cheaply they're made up. Translation - lots of silver duct tape crisscrossing costume department cheaply cut fabric with CGI added to create the now popular facial big, big scary mouth with Piranha style teeth. How original! Third give away, the popular old plot standby of a Carrie type getting into a tantrum and exacting revenge on the self-serving teens that wronged her - long, long ago.Fourth give away, everyone in town is clueless, including the not believable useless sheriff. And, what good is a death deserving town without the usual horror backdrop of a Catholic run orphanage and cemetery for cheap scary thrills.Besides a lack of acting, directing and editing there was a storyline that made little sense. For example. we have a bedridden comatose girl that is able to create real life zombies at will instantly and anywhere. However, an extra star is awarded for the realization that an alternate ending was needed to compensate for the other one.
For me, Forget Me Not has all the stuff I like from classic suspense/horror flicks: the hot, young teenagers; some fun, grisly deaths; some great "don't-go-down-that-dark-hallway", "chills-down-my-spine" moments; and a good twist at the end. Oscar-worthy? Nope. A fun watch? Definitely.
I completely agree with modgirl-3. Everything you said was so true.Yeah the four brunette girls in the movie looked very similar. It was agood film apart from the cameraman's shaky hand and the acting was onpoint. The lead girl was very good, she carried the story well.Definitely an original idea which you don't see in horror filmsnowadays. Very different, very interesting and clever in how it waspresented. I found myself urging to get to the end to find out what wasgoing to happen. It's obvious it didn't take a lot of money to make it,but sometimes the lower budget movies are so much better thanmainstream titles. It really is worth the watch.
So all I really ask for out of a teen horror flick is to beentertained. It doesn't have to be totally original, it doesn't have tobe well written or acted, and by now, I really don't even expect themto even be scary. Just make it fun. Don't throw in so many clichés thatwe feel like we've seen it all before, and try to make the best use ofwhat you have.Forget Me Not is (I assume) a direct to video thriller with lots ofmodel-quality unknown teen actors getting killed one by one. It showssome promise by having a nice backstory which we don't see all at once.It even builds a nice atmosphere with its setting suns and carefreeCalifornia summer. It turns out to be a bunch of chases, however, withghosts that look like a variation on every Ring/Grudge knockoff fromthe last 10 years. The main character is a girl who played a mean trick on another childwhen they were young. It led to the girl ending up in a coma, but nowher ghost appears to take away everyone involved one at a time. As theydie, no one but the main girl remembers them--they are erased. Themovie does build a little tension by creating a strong bong between thebrother and sister, so that you almost start to worry a little be fortwo of the characters. Most of the kids fall into that tired pattern ofbehaving promiscuously or using drug/alcohol and getting killed rightafterwards. For the most part, I kept watching to see how everything fit togetherand what the resolution would be, but there was almost no payoff. Theyall die, and the coma victim awakens, her revenge now complete. For amovie called Forget Me Not, it's pretty interchangeable with most filmsof its genre.
Modest stuff and occasionally gooey, but the performances disarm and the lensing makes the capital seem impossibly magical.
This movie was good & I kept it for my collection. I"M picky which ones I keep & most get traded in.
Reading some of the reviews left me asking what movie did these people see that was so great certainly no this one.Acting poor and plot twist that left me askin wtf.Not scary poorly done waste of time
This review is from: Forget Me Not (DVD) good twists on this movie it kept my attention and had a interesting ending I like it.And it wasn't cheesy low low budget.
This review is from: Forget Me Not (DVD) SYNOPSIS: A party-filled graduation weekend turns into a nightmare for popular class president Sandy Channing (Carly Schroeder) when her friends begin to vanish one by one. Soon Sandy discovers they have awakened the vengeful spirit of a girl they mistreated years ago. Now she must work to resolve the dark mysteries of her past before she and all her friends become unwilling victims in this bloody horror flick.REVIEW: I found the movie entirely predictable, but not in a bad way: teens finally get their comeuppance for a childhood prank and a game that goes wrong. It's like going on a rollercoaster ride of ghoulish thrills where you know who's going to get it next, but because the special effects are well done and the monsters are unique, it makes it for a scary fun time for all. Carly Schroeder plays the heroine in the movie in her first horror movie. There's not much of a storyline, lots of predictable 'jump-out-at-you' spooky thrills and the ending isn't much of a surprise, but that doesn't really seem to matter because the movie is filled with creepy-good excitement. Carly's good at what she does, and that in itself makes the movie worth watching. This film has been a long time coming, having been filmed during the summer of 2009 and premiered in October 22, 2009. I'm glad it finally made it to DVD. Also appearing in the film are Jillian Murray, Micah Alberti, Brittany Renee Finamore, Sean Wing, Zachary Abel, Bella Thorne, Christopher Atkins and Barbara Bain. Also look for Christina Gabrielle, Brie's sister, as the Orphan Girl.
Forget me not is an interesting attempt at making film that mixestraditional teenage American horror with a ghost story influenced byrecent Asian cinema. You get a cast of teenage characters not unlikewhat you could find in a Final Destination sequel, mixed with a ghostlythreat not unlike what you could find in a Grudge/Ring spin off. The plot development pertaining to the Ghost is actually well done, andthe flashbacks featuring our teenager crew when they were younger areinteresting, in fact more so than they are in the present. Unfortunately, what really kills this movie is crappy direction. There's really no attention to details, the actors (far from A-list)were obviously not guided very well either. Early in the movie, we seea girl throwing a necklace in a lake, moments later, she is seenclearly wearing it in a crappy edit that lasts but 2 seconds but leavesyou wondering how stuff like this could be missed. From that point inthe movie, you have to accept you're going to kill time watching anuninspired direct-to-video or turn it off. I went with it and must say the basic premise and general plot couldhave made for an interesting movie. I don't regret watching this. Ionly regret seeing lots of high ratings by horror fans. As long ashorror fans will be undemanding and accept to be short changed, producers will cut corners and deliver films which, like this one, needed a lot more work before being released. In the end, do not expect much scares from this. But if you are ahorror fan and want to see a mix of Asian and American horror, thenmaybe director Tyler Oliver's botched film will be enjoyable.
A pleasant if slender affair.
I had been waiting a really long time to see this movie. It was anindie release that took almost 2 years to come out on DVD, but itfinally did and I couldn't wait to see it. The reason is simple, theamazing young cast. I knew nothing of the writer, director, or story, but I saw that they got every up and coming young star in Hollywood tostar in this thing and that alone should have made it a good film.Unfortunately the story is very very simple. It's not a bad movie persay, but it's just nothing different from a thousand other films in thegenre. The cast was great, but the film was honestly just done. Therewas no surprises, nothing especially scary or violent, it was just avery simple and familiar film.
Menzies and O'Reilly crackle when the script gets out of their way, and a bad imitation of Before Sunrise is better than most of what passes for a romance film these days.
When does a game stop becoming fun? After a high-school party, a groupof friends decide to go to a local graveyard and play a game thatinvolves chanting and bringing back the dead. After a ghost from herpast appears strange things begin to happen to her and her friends. After all of the low budget horror movies that have been releasedlately I had low expectations for this one. I was very surprised at howmuch I enjoyed this one. A pretty original idea mixed with aspects of"Final Destination", "Butterfly Effect" and "Gothika" make it a veryfun movie to watch. I don't want to give the ending away, but noteverything is as it seems, or is it? This is more psychological thenhorror, but there are some very scary images in this to satisfy mosthorror fans. I am not a big fan of the horror genre, but this is one ofthe better ones I have seen in a long time. You won't be disappointedwhen watching this one. I give it a B.Would I watch again? - I think I might, to catch things I missed thefirst time.
Now this was a pretty out of the Hollywood mold for teenage horrormovies. It had everything you expect from a standard teenage horrormovie. The story isn't bad, don't get me wrong. In fact, the story wasactually quite nice, and had a good constant flow to it, so you weren'tleft bored. Now, what makes the movie halt a bit is the predictabilityof every single scene. Everything here is by the Hollywood-book. Yousee everything coming a mile before it actually happens. The acting in the movie was fairly good, though I am not reallyfamiliar with any of the cast. But still, they did a good job.As for the apparitions, or whatever they are supposed to be, well theylook pretty cool and move in a nice way as well. Now what ticked me offwas whatever that was going on with their mouths. Every time I saw oneof these apparitions I was laughing because of the mouth. So it was abit hard to take them seriously. Now, with the supernatural touch of the movie, this is a little bitmore interesting than your average standard teenager horror movie. Butit is dangerously close to being just another mediocre type.Watch it if you like teenage horror movies, but don't expect to bescared out of your seat. There are some nice deaths and effects, butthat is about the size of the fireworks.
I'll start off by saying that I did like this movie, but that's morebecause of the concept rather than the final product. This is a prettygood example of taking something that hasn't really been done (at leastnot often) and beating it over the head with a plot line that's beendone to death. The result is something with a lot of promise thatpretty much comes out looking like a typical teenkill movie. The plot was well though out; a group of friends are hunted down andkilled one by one by a creepy looking ghost chick. The fun part is thatonce the friends are killed, the present changes as if the person neverexisted. So it's a bit of a cool twist, but without that this filmwould've been like a cross between The Ring and Scream...and who wantsthat? The visuals of the "ghost(s)" were pretty well done. Reminded mea bit of the way they did the special effects in 13 Ghosts. All in all it's fun if you can look past the very played out execution. And this is just a personal request, but when you throw a bunch of hotchicks into a horror film is it too much to as for some boobs?Juvenile? Absolutely, but I like my horror films in their purest form.
It took a b-zillion short flashbacks before we came to the BIG reveal. The only problem with that......by that time I forget what the fuss was about.I must be the only one who has never heard of a game called Ghosts (or maybe we just didn't live close enough to a cemetery to play it?). It looked like a lame version of hide and seek to me; only no one took the trouble to hide. That they thought they could base a movie on such a slim thread of an idea is amazing. It seemed pretty pointless to include amnesia as a scare factor. If you don't remember something, it doesn't matter. It was nice seeing Barbara Bain again. Christopher Atkins' role though was a "blink and you'll miss it" type.Unimpressive but watchable, I'm not sorry I saw it this once; I just don't want to ever watch it again. Not a keeper.
Yes the movie is heavily clichéd and the acting in some areas is morethan weak as well as a less than impressive start but I can see aneffort to be unique is on display here. The movie starts off like mostgeneric slasher films with a cast of beautiful unknowns who justrecently graduated from high school and throws a huge party, get drunk, have sex and after everyone leaves a handful of close friends decidesto drive to a cemetery and play a silly game that's like ghosts in thegraveyard. A mysterious girl then appears and wants to play with themand they let her, then things turn for the worst. To me from there onthe movie gets way better with effective kills and a way more effectivedragging a victim to their grave underground than in Drag Me To Hell, terror and suspense also come and maybe a too complicated plot andstory for its own good but I give it kudos for trying to be ambitious. The acting too for some reason gets slightly better and far lessannoying than it was in the beginning with Carly Schroeder from theindie film Mean Creek stealing the show. The film never gets trulyterrifying and the zombie like ghosts though at some points creepy andscary were mostly not effective enough and seems too similar to thekiller ghosts in Asian ghosts flicks of the past and they could of donebetter in that department but for a limited budget they weren't halfbad either. The twisted shocker of an ending which they all had itcoming was very effective to me and kept me from giving it a lowerrating but I just wish it had a better first half and setup like it didin the middle and last half and because of that it was uneven and italso could of gone further with its interesting premise. Overall it'slike Prom Night meets I Know What You Did Last Summer meets Tormentedand at that was an entertaining watch if you have nothing better to door watch. Rent it! 6 out of 10
