Roddy is a rat who lives in the best lifestyle possible, but when stranger Sid appears, Roddy tries everything to remove him. Unfortunately for Roddy, not everything goes to plan, and he himself ends up in the sewers. Gaining the assistance of Rita, Roddy tries to get home, whilst dodging the evil Toad.
A WONDERFUL animated film, Flushed Away, brings to the screen the story of a pet rat left alone following the family leaving for holidays. An unexpected arrival, however, will make him discover a world he had no idea existed...Hugh Jackman, Jean Reno, Bill Nighy, Ian McKellen, Kate Winslet, Andy Serkis and the rest of this AMAZING cast, have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are exceptional to say the least! All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100% and it really shows (the animation does come ALIVE)! Very well written and very well presented, the movie is without a doubt guaranteed to provide more than just a few laughs. The setting, the plot, the dialogues, the humor, and the music are all EXCELLENT!In short, Flushed Away is a movie definitely worth watching and one to seriously consider adding to your movie collection! Strongly recommended along with the Shrek and Ice Age movies, Antz, The Ant Bully, Cars, Hoodwinked, Madagascar, Monsters Inc. and Over the Hedge.PS The dvd's Special Features are a "must." Meet the Cast, Slug Songs, and the rest of the features are so worth it!
This review is from: Flushed Away (Widescreen Edition) (DVD) I received my dvd, in better condition, than described. I was very pleased with the service, and Fast, considerate shipping!! Thank You.
A truly delightful animated comedy from the same guys that brought usthe claymation movies. Here we get to see the real London"underground", not simply the world of transportation, but theunderground world of the sewers.Hugh Jackman voices the main character, a pet, caged rat called Roddy. When his family goes away for a few days, he lets himself out of thecage to have fun but soon a big, fat, sewer rat pops up from thedrains, to wreck his solitude. Roddy tries to trick the sewer rat intothe toilet, but instead he himself is 'flushed away', and soon findshimself in an underworld of little critters that looks like a miniaturerecreation of London above the ground. There he soon meets Kate Winslet voicing Rita, who owns a cool littleboat. Her nemesis, and that of all the others, is Ian McKellen voicingThe Toad. There are the mandatory French 'le frog' jokes, and Jean Renois good voicing Le Frog. Others are Bill Nighy and Andy Serkis. The action is good and entertaining. The story isn't that important tome, but involved the old toad being angry the the Prince as a boy got apet rat and flushed his toad into the sewers. Bent on revenge, he wasgoing to use the half time of the big televised Britain and Germanysoccer game to execute his plan, when everyone would go to the loo, andthe mass flushing of toilets would flood the underground. It was up toRita and Roddy to see if they could foil his plan.
Although they say the film is about 84 minutes long, it feels like itgoes by in 60.You can read all about the visual appeal and kinetic energy of the filmin the mainstream reviews. But, really, it's just so much fun. Thecomedy in the film might be characterized as gleeful lunacy, withunexpected moments of bite that might make adults in the theater wonderwhether the kids are enjoying it as much as they are. But, not to worry: I took my 6 year old daughter to see it and shewasn't scared by the action scenes, got the Nemo reference and laughednearly as much as I did (I think I embarrassed her a bit). You have to take your kids to this. It's a treat for both of you.
To make a fun, hilarious and entertaining animated film, Aardman andDreamworks teamed up to make "Flushed Away." All the characters looklike Aardman plasticine creations, but they are computer animated, which is a little unnerving for the first five minutes or so of thisfilm, but then it becomes very good.I like this film because of the sweet rats, the jokes, all thecharacters and the plot. The whole film has been done very well and itis very good for young children and old adults. As I have said before, the animation works very well for the film. Oh yes, the scenes ofLondon are very good as well, a change from the settings of films inthe U.S.A.In this film, we are acquainted with a rat called Roddy, who lives in ahuge house in London - in a huge golden cage. He claims to have a greatdeal of fun, but he has no other rats to live with. Then, one day, asewer rat finds his way from up the pints into the house. Roddy, whofinds this rat Sid very dirty and rude, decides to flush him down theloo. Unfortunately for Roddy, Sid flushes him down first and Roddy endsup in the adventure of a lifetime...I recommend this to people who like Aardman, Dreamworks and funnyfilms. Enjoy "Flushed Away"! P.S You have to at least bear seeing slugsto watch this film, as throughout singing slugs appear.
This review is from: Flushed Away (Widescreen Edition) (DVD) The kids love to bring out this movie every now and then. It's a fun movie to watch.
This delightful computer animation is less twee than Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, with more action and a broader American sensibility.
Seriously, if you want to enjoy this movie, and I really mean this, watch this at like 3 in the morning when you're half tired but justCANNOT get to sleep. It really enhances the bizarreness of it all, thePythonesque presence of talking animals mixed with the fact it's hardto tell it's a shrek knockoff, the fact that the Americans don't needto make films so you wonder what's up anyway, the near-David Lynchianquality of insanity. Still, it's a hole lot better than vomitous Shrek, and they made three of those urinary-tract-infecting things so far.It was night impossible for me to tell just what exactly was thismovie's technique. It dawned upon me after a while that this movie isan expert at making inaction seem like action. Things almost happenuntil a character makes a complete 180 turn to detour everything to ahalt. This sort of leads the movie to being told in almost episodicfashion. Although the movie almost touches on interesting aspects, details are nigh on impossible to follow, especially when you try toget to know who any of the characters are. The best scene to explainthe bizarre behavior of the characters is when living rats are beingsmacked across the face repeatedly without questioning why. There are so many bizarre moments that will stand out in your memory asyou watch this movie. It's as though this movie just comes AT yourface. Primarily there's the scene with the horse enjoying himself justWAY too much at relieving himself, the manic ditzy girl grabbing herown boobs, Ed Wood's horse, the seemingly inappropriate insertion ofdated pop songs, and still more. The plot made as much sense as an episode of Twin Peaks, and thedialogue was like talking to a character from an Ed Wood film. Butunfortunately you need to be able to understand these things beforeyou'll get this movie. Perhaps I would had liked this film more if itwas made as an entirely silent movie instead, or featured no sound butthat of a continuous air raid siren. It would had most likelystrengthened its surrealistic elements. The movie is now instead notsurrealistic enough for my liking.
This review is from: Flushed Away (Full Screen Edition) (DVD) I bought this movie for my little grandson who loves it. He's watched it several times already and laughs out loud the whole time!
good movie, however for about 2 months if i drained the bath tub with my 4 year old still in there he would yell at me for it and tell me he was gonna get sucked in, it was HILARIOUS!!!!
Despite the switch from stop-motion to CGI, the hallmarks of a typical Aardman production are intact, right down to the characters' round eyes and prominent teeth.
This is one of the best animated movie that I've watched and it isn't a pixar/disney movie! The best part about this whole movie was the creativity and the storyline. It's very original and funny. The animation is almost as good as pixar. I rented this movie and my family loved it! Kids + adults. They couldnt stop laughing. The story basically revovles around a rat who lives alone but with a wealthy human family. He gets flushed and discovers sewer rats which he becomes acquainted with . Everyone in the movie is excited about the World Cup which is quite interesting. The events that occur in the end was foreshadowed in the beginning (*hints). There is also music in this movie and I liked it so much that I brought the soundtrack. It is a comedy and there is a love story!
When I heard about "Flushed Away" from Aardman animations I wasexpecting a lot! It was being connected to "Wallace and Grommit and theThe curse of the were-rabbit" (from Nick Park)! Sadly I have to reportthat Nick Park (other than a cameo as a slug's voice) has nothing to dowith this movie! (Look at the credits if you don't believe me)! And itshows! The animation is great, the voice acting is superb! But somethingis lacking! And that is the typical British humor! The double meaningare gone! That doesn't mean "Flushed Away" isn't good! It is quitecharming and entertaining! Only people will be disappointed if theyexpect something like the Wallace and Grommit productions! It is a goodthing they put in singing slugs! They give that extra comic relief whatis needed! Give it a shot!
Flushed Away is the perfect marriage between the American Dreamworksand their crass sense of humor and the British Aardman and their drysense of humor. Beside the obvious jokes about the sewer there's muchto enjoy for the more sophisticated viewer. Like a cockroach readingFranzKafka's The Metamorphosis. The voice-cast is spot on: Ian McKellenas the evil genius The Toad is pure delight, Kate Winslet and HughJackman are clearly having a blast giving their voices to rats Rita andRoddy. But the cream of the crop are the singing and screaming snails. When they sing at the top of their lungs Proud Mary you laugh so hardyou have to check your underpants to see if you haven't had a littleaccident.
I'm tired to see animated films with animals who talk a lot. When I wentto see Flushed away,I knew it was with animals, but I went to see itwith good expectations because Aardman produced this movie(Aardmanproduced brilliant animated films like Chicken run and Wallace andGromit).Flushed away is the first time Aardman uses digitalanimation.Flushed away is not a great animation movie and it's not asgood as Aardman's previous films...but it's fun, funny and way betterthan animation films made in Hollywood. The best thing about this movieis that the new animation technique does not take preponderance on thestory.I mean, the film pays a lot of attention to the story and I likedthat a lot because it's weird to see on a modern animation film.Flushedaway does not fall in any conventionalism animated filmshave.Obviously, there are subjects like the respect, tolerance anddiversity but it goes to a second take, leaving in the front thecharacters' personality and the script's humor. That humor goes from theslapstick(like a very funny scene which involves genitals)to funnyreferences to popular culture. On other movies, that humor is irritantand predictable. But on Flushed away, that works as a complement becausethat humor comes from the main character's personalities and from thecharacters he found on his adventure.Creators of movies like Madagascarand Open season should understand that concept. The character's voicesare perfectly chosen and my favorite performances are Ian McKellen'sand Andy Serkis'.The frailty I found here is that the action scenes arenot too good and they take out cohesion to the movie's structure.Iunderstand that the directors put that to keep fun to kids spectatorsbut the constant action scenes take out points to the story'sdevelopment.Flushed away is not a great movie but it kept me very funand it made me laugh. It's not the best thing Aardman did but it's waybetter than the crap animation films Hollywood makes.I recommend thismovie to the kids and their fathers...they will have a good time in thetheater.Rating:7.5
If you love "Wallace and Gromit," you'll want to get "Flushed Away" with these new characters from Aardman.
Though Flushed Away certainly aims to please viewers of all ages, it's the anglophiles of all ages who are going to get the most out of the film.
This movie was absolutely brilliant! The animation was among the verybest I have ever seen (surpassing even that of Finding Nemo, TheIncredibles, and others). It was hilariously funny, colorful, bright, witty, and entertaining! This movie far exceeded all my expectations,it is a must-see!!!The voices are spot-on perfect for the characters, the little "puns"here and there are just brilliant, and the story is unique. Great forall ages. I am a 36-year-old male, and I enjoyed this movie very much. There were several laugh-out-loud scenes and brilliant gags and jokesthat kept me laughing after the movie was over.
you will really love this film.what a riot it was.it's from Dreamworksand Aardman Entertainment, the same people behind Wallace andGromit.it's hysterically funny and fast paced and exciting.i lovedWallace and Gromit in The Curse of The Wererabbit, but i thought thismovie was even funnier.it's a bit more risqué with the humour, whichadults will pick up on,and kids will of course love it.a lot of thehumour is very cheeky.there is a bit of rude, and crude humour here.notonly is the film funny,it also looks very good, technically.the choiceof actors for the voices was brilliant.the whole thing is just so welldone.for me,Flushed Away is a 10/10
An actual story! With genuine characters! In a kid's cartoon? Say it ain't so!
