Good performances from the whole cast

Lexa Doig and Ian Sommerholder were very likable in their roles. Theyhad sexy chemistry together, though the characters never consummate theattraction. Their characters had charming goodbye scene, which leftthings between them ambiguous and open.In fact, I would love to see them again in a romantic comedy together. The supporting cast was solid. The villain was compelling. ColinCunningham had a wonderful comedic role in this movie.Like all SyFy original films, the special effects are a bit weak attimes and the script does have a cliché or two.But this is worth watching for the Ian Sommerholder, Lexa Doig andColin Cunningham.

Slowly burning, but failing to become an inferno

This movie was actually alright for a movie of this genre. Unlike somany others that fail to be entertaining or full of super crappy CGIeffects. The story of this movie was fairly much similar to the old movie"Firestarter", but of course not a step by step copy. There weresimilarities, but that was alright. If you liked "Firestarter" or itssequel, it is most likely that you will enjoy this movie as well. Andthe story pretty much evolves around only 3 characters, and that worksout good as well.As for the acting? Well it was alright, nothing award winning here, butstill adequate and decent to look at. I must say that Lexa Doigactually pulled off a scientific character quite well, especially whenshe was rambling on about science stuff and facts, it was quitebelievable, so hats off for that. The CGI effects were fairly alright, and looked okay. Except for ascene where a glass dome exploded, that looked horrible. Besides somesmall flaws, the effects were alright.Actually the music score throughout the movie was quiet nice, andreally worked well.In overall, this movie was adequate, but there was just somethingmissing from it, something to make it unique and stand out. For me, itis one of those movies you watch once and then forget about it.

Fireball

Like every sci fi channel movie, Fireball has its highs and lows. Lowsin sci-fi channel movies are always the special effects and the budget. That being said, I enjoyed this more than usual "monster" schlock youfind on Sci Fi.I enjoyed the science of this movie as well as Lexa Doig's character asthe walking textbook. As a science teacher I enjoyed the science (andthe pseudo-science) of explaining a human torch. Is it possible? No.But I bought it.I also like that the the guy who played the Agent was a pretty boyinstead of the usual aging-alcoholic-just divorced-john McLean-type.All in all it's worth your time if you like Sci Fi Original Movies andof those movies is one of the ones I have enjoyed more.

Not Your Usual Scifi Channel Fare

While this production bears most of the signature elements of a SciFiChannel original - miserable writing, terrible acting, lazy directing, and bargain-basement CGI - it's a stunning departure for the network. It involves neither giant animals eating humans, nor natural disasters. And when SciFi thinks outside the Jaws / Earthquake meta-boxes, you cancount on somewhat different (if not new) cinematic awkwardness. It'slike a they're installing new hamster wheel for their cable cage oftedium.I just wish the writers would leave their bimbo-encrusted poolsidechaise lounges long enough to do some actual field research. Thecharacters are never drawn from recognizable reality, and the flattechnical facts they spew in lieu of dialog sound like Wikipediasearches.
