This is the best movie I have ever seen.

Drew did a beautiful jod along with Dougray and Angelica's help. Not only does it teach girls that having a step famoly is that bad, something good could always happen. It also teaches them that it is okay to Dream, Believe, and that this could have and still can happen to them. Sure every girl wishes it could happen to them. It is a very good movie for anyone to watch. I love Drew Barrymore, Dougray Scott, and Angelica Houston's performance. I have told everyone I know about this movie. It really touched me inside. Things like this go on everyday. It takes a wonderful person to see this movie and get the point. I think they should make more movies like this. I also think that the producer did a great job. The day this movie comes on video I will get it. Again, it was the best movie I have ever seen.

What is it with the "french accents" thing....

I think this is a wonderful movie (and more's the point so does my "actionpacked, shoot-em up movies" husband). It is beautifully shot, beautifullyacted and beautifully written. I have read most of the comments and Ireplied to one but came upon another one that has to be responded to FRENCHPEOPLE WHO SPEAK TO EACH OTHER IN FRENCH DO NOT HAVE AN ACCENT. It is abasic premise of drama and acting that if people are speaking to each otherin their own language they do not have an accent. However, if a frenchperson is speaking to an Enlish person, for instance, then said Frenchperson would speak with an accent. It is also the basic mistake ofamerican directors etc., who believe that to convey a nationality they musthave their actors speak with an accent. The most disappointing thing aboutthe brilliant movie "Citizen X" is that the director (from HBO) INSISTEDthat everyone spoke with a Russina accent...wrong, wrong, wrong. Thedirectors of "Ever After" got it perfect and should be applauded for it.

Amazing!

Cinderella has always been my favorite fairy-tale and I was so happy when this movie came out. It is the perfect mixture of romance, comedy, and action. It keeps you intersted for begining to end. This is now my favorite movie ever!! I only hope I can find a love that strong someday. He will love me for who I am and it will be unconditional love. Wonderful movie!! Great job Drew and Dougray!

Fairy tales still cast their spell !

Among "Romeo+Juliet" and some rare others one of the best love stories evereven for those who usually tend to action films, though the basic GrimmBros. story seems far away from "Ever after"´s plot.

Captivating, Awesome, Spectacular movie

Ever After is a delight to watch, perfect for all ages and all people.Titanic pales in comparison. The love story in Ever After is donewonderfully and it grows through witty banter. The characters are far fromshallow, and the story never slows. This movie will be one of myfavourites. Go see it!!!

This is how Love matches love

Ever After is absolutely one of my favorite romantic-love movies.Interpretations by all actors are wonderful and those by Drew Barrymoreand Dougray Scott are simply outstanding. Their feelings are so realand so intense that every time I watch the movie I find it hard tobelieve that they are not really in love with each other but justacting. Danielle's character is strong, determined, right but at thesame time beautiful and delicate, often unpredictable; Henry's one isalso determined, coherent, constantly in search of true values andfascinated by those who can live their lives intensively. There is nodoubt they must belong to one another since they "match in every way"and would only reach the perfect love by living together ever after...It's exactly like this between me and my wife !!!

Romantic Retelling at its best

I assume all have seen this movie. If you haven't, go see it now.I am a single mid-twenties male and "Ever After" is my favoriteromantic comedy, which is normally an unappealing genre for mydemographic. I would vote for "Ever After" over any Rambo/Stalloneflick for entertainment value for one night.Everything about Ever After is well done to excellent. Acting, costumes, plot twists, humor, dialog, scenery, music ... everything. This movie's ending is extremely satisfying, where everyone gets whatthey deserve. In short, the movie is well-executed entertainment.Upon further viewings, you begin to notice things, both good and bad.You see the Baroness's hurtful gaze at Danielle as August dies,Jacqueline's conflicts that almost parallel Danielle's, Margueritte'sjaw dropping upon seeing Princess Danielle, and how Le Pew isn't reallya bad guy for recognizing the beauty, radiance, and spirit insideDanielle that everyone else is blind to, only for his methods ofapproach. But, unfortunately, you also notice some bad things. There are factualand historic flaws, some less-than-perfect accents and dialog, and somenot-completely believable events between the characters, with varyingscales of forgiveness depending on the critic. However, remember thatthis is a retelling of a magic-filled bedtime fairy tale. If you areunable to suspend your disbelief for these overlook-able quirks in amovie, you probably like the original Cinderalla tale too much or toolittle and do not enjoy many movies for entertainment's sake.Danielle is not the most physically attractive character, that being'Margueritte Francious Louise of the House of Ghent', but she outshineseveryone as the most beautiful character, doing her common birth fatherand legendary mother proud. Leonardo Da Vinci plays the FairyGodmother, having his fabled intelligence and artistry adding literallyvisual sparks to the movie, yet his dialog makes him the 'no bull-crap'character, which allows him to remind the prince to stop being a princeand Danielle to stop being Danielle and recognize they are a man andwoman in love.

I truly enjoyed the movie.......it was a mixture of a romantic tale, a comedy, suspense, fairy tale etc, all combined into one amazing fable. Although, many would have already figured out the plot before going in, there are many details of the movie that they would further like watching. The locations, costumes and "medieval" humour are bonuses to enjoy. Ever after, is by far, one of the best movies of the year, too bad it had to coincide with the release of Saving Private Ryan, otherwise it would be number one for sure. Great performances by Drew Barrymore and Anjelica Huston

Drew enchants as a fiery Cinders

This 1998 movie is a delightful take on the Cinderella fairy tale, largely due to the personality and talent of Drew Barrymore whoeffortlessly blends innocence and feistiness as Danielle de Barbaracwho, after her father dies, is downgraded to a servant by her harsh andgreedy stepmother (Angelica Houston). Also in attendance of course aretwo stepsisters (Megan Dodds and Melanie Lynskey) though they are farfrom ugly, and the latter has quite a lot of sympathy with poorput-upon Danielle.Enter a handsome, dashing Prince Charming, in the form of 16th centuryreal-life Henri (Dougray Scott), son of the French King, Francois I(Timothy West). He falls for Danielle, under the impression that she isa noble lady, not a commoner and menial, and lots of misunderstandingand intrigues ensue. One of the cleverer aspects of the film is thepresence of Leonardo da Vinci (Patrick Godfrey) who was in fact broughtto France (where he died) by Francois. Another realistic surprise issome sharp social criticism - voiced by Danielle - partially based onThomas More's book, Utopia, whose publication pre-dated Henri.Where, however, the screenplay is a fairy tale of its own is that Henrifar from being charming was ruthlessly cruel when he became King HenriII; also, needless to say, there was no Danielle de Barbarac in hislife. The film was shot in France, with lots of picturesque scenery andchâteaux to admire. Finally, another good reason to view this movie isa brief appearance by Jeanne Moreau in her 70th year; but this was byno means her final film - according to IMDb, she's made another 15since then!.

Best Love Story To Remember Ever After

The story is universal, just like a story taken from the new testamentof the bible. Three elements are present in this movie: faith, hope, and love. Danielle is a humble god-fearing servant much like anIsraelite woman from the past. I've seen lots of love and romancemovies but when it comes to morality this one is anexception—characters don't end up in bed after falling in love in thefirst place. Movies and TV shows we have today are full of premaritalsex plot, adultery, divorce, and etc… Violence is minimal; therefore,it's a family film. Credit goes to George Fenton's music that addedmore heights in storytelling; Drew Barrymore's portrayal of being anunderdog; Anjelica Huston's portrayal of an evil stepmother (she's notbad at all, though it will be different story if the director shows howDanielle was lashed like Christ—you will truly hate her). Dialogues aregreat and characters know how to act their part, and Andy Tennantdirected this film in a beautiful way (some flaws but overlooked).Overall, this is truly a great film to remember.

Enchanting & Fun

Drew Barrymore leads us through a delightful romp through a Cinderella taleset in France. Sparkling from start to finish, "Ever After" is enchantingand fun. Anjelica Huston is deliciously wicked, while Melanie Lynskey'sperformance as the jolly step-sister is wonderful. With some nice gendertwists -- this Cinderella needs no rescuing, in fact she rescues her PrinceCharming -- and humour injected into a lively script, "Ever After" is sureto please.

Not Drew's #1 fan...loved the movie anyway.

Yeah, I knew there was a reason that Cinderella was my all-timefavorite fairy tale! The writer does a great job of changing theexpectations that we already knew from the popular tale. Knowing thepremise of the story, he was still able to keep me involved enough towant to know HOW they would arrive at the point of 'happily everafter'. Drew was surprisingly likable (as I said in the title...I'm notmuch of a fan of hers) and she gave the pauper-like character muchneeded soul. I also thought Angelica Huston did a fantastic job as theStepmother because in the original tale, I remember her as just 'mean'.But in this story, I actually felt moments of softened humility from athe known 'hardened' character. I rated this movie high because ifgiven the opportunity...I would even watch it again. Way to go Drew!

This movie is an excellent adaptation of Cinderella story

This movie is a wonderful adaptation of the Cinderella story. DrewBarrymore, Dougray Scott, and the other actors were beautifully castand became their characters. The cinematography was breathtakingincluding the castle, chateaus, landscape and the ball. The music sweptyou into the romance and enchantment of the film adding so much to theover all emotional impact. The screenplay was excellent. The scenesbetween Barrymore as Nicole/Danielle and Scott as Prince Henry werepoignant and well-written. The chemistry between these two on screenwas vibrant including the challenge of wit and intellect. The movieleaves you with the feeling even fairy tales can come true.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!

For ONCE someone has portrayed Cinderella without making her a total ditz! Drew Barrymore was fantastic in her portrayal of Danielle! Where most people make Cinderella desirable solely based on her looks, the character of Danielle is intelligent! I will stop now, because it would take more than the 1,000 word limit to say everything!!! I LOVED this movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

angel_chickr 2012-04-22 11:06:12

just like the fairy tale

Ever After is just like the fairy tale of Cinderella, except for the partsof the fairy godmother and the pieces of magic. That was the part that wasmissing. Overall, this is a lovely movie, with the wicked stepmother andtheprince. I thought that the movie was a little bit for everyone, such ashumor, adventure, and suspense. But it was romantic, which I am a sap formyself. This was a splendid movie. Good job Drew Barrymore.
