Entrapment

Following the theft of a highly-secured piece of artwork, an agent convinces her insurance agency employers to allow her to wriggle into the company of an aging but active master thief. Connerys burglar takes her on suspiciously and demands rigorous training before their first job together--stealing a highly-valued mask from a chichi party. Their deepening attraction and distrust could tear apart their partnership but the promise of a bigger prize (some eight billion odd dollars) by Zeta-Jones keeps the game interesting. Only, whos playing with whom?

It Takes a Thief - Redux

We are introduced early in this movie to someone whole steals a valuable Rembrandt Van Rijn painting. We do not see this person because the person is wearing a mask. Insurance investigator Virginia Baker (Catherine Zeta-Jones) tells her boss that she thinks Robert "Mac" MacDougal (Sean Connery) stole the painting. Her boss tells her that she has blamed MacDougal for half the thefts committed for a period of time I no longer recall. The beginning of this movie sounds very similar to "The Thomas Crown Affair." Fear not, this movie has more twists than that movie, to which is bears only a few similarities. This movie is much more like "It Takes a Thief," though you may not realize how much until you reach the end.Baker begins following Mac around, ostensibly to find some clue as to where the Rembrandt painting might be. However, we soon learn that Baker has something much bigger in mind. Things become even more interesting when Baker reveals to Mac that she stole the Rembrandt, and she used a clever, non-obvious way of getting the painting out of the building. Soon we learn that there is even more to the theft of the Rembrandt. I know I was surprised. What happens next is a sort of competition, where we see Baker and Mac continuing to try to outdo each other. If you are not paying attention it is easy to get lost in who is doing what and when they are doing it; thus the advantage of DVDs where you can keep stepping back a chapter or so to try and digest the complexity of this movie. Eventually the plot reveals that Baker has a plan to steal a huge (billions) sum of money by breaking into a computer. The plan involves very fine timing that has to coincide with the millennium (of course, otherwise there would be no sense of urgency).Once things get set into motion the movie moves forward briskly. There is getting into the building, the timing of breaking into the computer, and the nasty mistake that sends dozens of people chasing after them. It is all good fun up until someone gets caught. This movie tends to get polarized reviews. I think mostly it is about your expectations. If you like Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and try to avoid analyzing action movies very much, then you would probably like this movie. On the other hand, if you do not care for either actor, or you spend too much time realizing that there are a number of continuity problems and implausibilities sprinkled throughout the movie, you will likely be too focused on those and disappointed that the director was hoping you would like his cleverness in spite of the fact that much of the plot was impossible. In balance, I should note that Christopher Young received a BMI Film Music Award in 2000 for this movie. Catherine Zeta-Jones won a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Actress - Action. Both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sean Connery won European Film Awards Audience Awards for Best Actress and Best Actor. In addition, Ving Rhames was nominated for the Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Supporting Actor - Action, and the Motion Picture Sound Editors of USA nominated the movie for a Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing for a Foreign Feature. To keep things in perspective, Catherine Zeta-Jones was also nominated for the Razzie Award for Worst Actress and Zeta-Jones and Connery were nominated for the Razzie Award for Worst Couple. As for me, once I realized that the movie had too many implausible situations, I just enjoyed the plot and tried to figure out what was what. I also must point out that I have liked Connery in nearly every movie he has starred in. He has a lot of charisma. I also like Zeta-Jones, though she has much less talent than Connery.I must admit that the ending puzzles me just a little. It seems to me that there came a point where the director made something happen, and ignored the trivial problem that what he did was impossible. I think he was hoping that people would like the end of the movie so much that they would not notice the problem. Unfortunately, nearly everyone noticed. Fortunately for the director, many people did not care.

Entrapped-Don't Get Caught Up in This One *

Terrible film which is muddled throughout despite Sean Connery andCatherine Zeta-Jones in it.I think that Connery and Jones should have stuck with that Oscar showseveral years ago when he announced her the winner of the bestsupporting actress award for "Chicago." There was more chemistrybetween those 2 stars in that brief moment then in this entire film.Confusing isn't the word for this. Zeta-Jones is supposedly an agentgoing after Connery for being a crook. Unknown to her, her superiorssuspect that she is a crook as well. The two plan heist after heist anddo some mighty climbing throughout, but that's about it.The ending seems that Connery has fooled Zeta-Jones but loveintervenes. It doesn't help in this absolutely choppy heist.

WHAT A WOMAN CAN DO

If you're a movie buff, you've seen this kind of formula caper film too often already.Don't you think that SEAN CONNERY has played these roles to death by now, after 40 years? It would be fun if he played a grandfather for a change. We're lucky to have CATHERINE ZETA-JONES ,who with her beauty makes it tolerable to watch. But maybe you're not a movie buff, and you just want to be entertained for 114 minutes after a hard day at work, then this is for you.Watch out,you might fall asleep on your couch. You'll be glad to go to bed even if you are alone. What about the story you might ask?Who cares really?Don't bother.

Malaysia "Boleh" (Can)?

Directed by Jon Amiel, various international film festival winner.Golden Globe winner Ving Rhames, as seen in M:i trilogy as well as Dawnof the Dead is star in this film surprisingly.Frankly speaking Catherine Zeta-Jones is too young to match with SeanConnery. We can't deny that when we spend some time with someone wewill get closer and eventually fall in love.Sean Connery is the co-producer of this film. I guess many peoplecouldn't remember Sean Connery for his first Oscar winning work in TheUntouchables (1988) due to his impressive James Bond and Indiana Jonesseries. On the other hand, Catherine Zeta-Jones is now an Oscar holder afterChicago in 2003. We will never know what will happen in the nearfuture. She is really sexy. You will enjoy this film if you like something like The Recruit apartfrom being the fans of the big stars. As a Malaysian, it is really proud, surprise and happy to see KLCCareas are being selected as the main action shooting location when itwas the tallest building at that time before the completion of Taipei101.Besides that, during the shooting period the STAR LRT was the first inMalaysia and still new as compared to its old-fashion today after thecompletion of ERL, PUTRA LRT, and KL Monorail.I feel the sense of belonging when I see the ending scenes in STAR LRTPudu Station.

Pretty good, just not a GREAT film

I was really looking forward to this movie. As a fan of Sean Connery, and of "Thief" stories as a whole, I thought this might be the penultimateThief movie. While both Catherine and Sean were great in this film, theyare the only reason to see it.The plot has a couple interesting twists, but is predictablethroughout. All in all I gave this 7 outa 10 points. (I would watch it on TV, butwon'trent it when it comes out on video) If you are looking for a REALLY goodthriller, rent "Heat" or "The Usual Suspects" both of which I consider tobethe best of the genre. Heat is also a longer movie, which translates tomore bang for yer movie buck.

Impossible but Doable!

The Actors have done a great job; Well, what do you expect from Sean Connery! Catherine Zeta Jones is very sexy and makes a feast for my eyes! The only thing is about this DVD version that there were no special features except the trailer...

It's what studios do to spectators

SHE: Oh, my god! [...]HE: You sound surprised.SHE: No, it's just not what I expected. The dialogue doesn't get much better in "Entrapment". She also says "Wow!" a lot, generally expressing herself with a teenager's vocabulary (and impetuosity), which seems to indicate a more intuitive, spontaneous thinking process than one might expect from a highly intelligent and methodical art thief. He, on the other hand, mutters and grunts his observations in as thick a Scottish brogue as he can muster. He's the organization man to her acrobat, explaining the basic ground rules of thievery, such as "Never trust a naked woman". This will, needless to say, lead to some awkwardness in their partnership, culminating in a tussle which ends with him backing out on the grounds that "My situation is just too complicated." (War injury? Forgot his Viagra? We can't be sure.) If you're looking for romantic tension, try "Roman Holiday". If you're looking for a convincing heist scene, "Revenge of the Pink Panther" does as good a job, with humor as a bonus. If you're looking for scenes of the Zeta-Jones butt gyrating in tight black leather pants, you can buy the DVD and just turn on the disc menu which shows it from every angle for as long as you want. Or try "Chicago", where she does some mean dancing, and proves she can even act.

Dirty old man and common criminal do not a hero or heroine make

Sean Connery hooks up with Catherine Zeta Jones and despite the fact thatthey are common criminals they are made out to be heroes. I am alwaysuncomfortable with these movies where the criminals get away with it.Robbing the World Clearance Bank is no different from breaking into yourhouse and would you want a hero made out of the person who did that. Alsothe "dirty old man thing". I resent also this notion that Catherine ZetaJones would be remotely interested in a 70 year old man (even older thanMichael Douglas!!). I was trying to think of a reverse casting toillustratethe point, but such is the sexism in Tinseltown I couldn't think of asingleactress of Connery's age still headlining movies. The nearest I could getwas can you imagine Leonardo making a romantic movie with Judi Dench! The stunts were good as were the locations, but Connery was just ConneryandZeta Jones was alright I suppose. If you don't moralise it, you'll probably enjoy it, but the holes in theplot and the lack of consequence of their actions made it too much forme.

You are absolutely yummy

I thought this movie casted two most yummy actors at the time. Sean is the kind of man that gets better with age and Mrs. Jones is just exotic looking. So when the two got together it was perfect. I felt the movie was exciting and full of adventure. To many others they felt it was a dull film, but I like the idea and bought it right away.

good, but not my kind of movie

I had never been so confused about a movie before in my life before I saw this one. You keep on wondering who is on who's side and when. And the thieves are the good guys. And...well, basically, this is not my kind of movie. ciao.

Yet another clone of "The Thomas Crowne Affair"

The story, although interesting and well directed is not without reminding"The Thomas Crowne Affair", namely in the confrontation of a wealthythief -whom incentive in crime is more excitement than money - with a brilliant -and how feminine - insurance agency detective! None the less the moviekeeps interest high: Diversity of sceneries, fast paced action as well asanice uncertainty left over the detective's actual mindset and goals pleadfor this variation on a known theme. And both CZJ and Sean Connery are soadmirable!-- Olivier Hurez.

Amazing Movie!

I saw this movie about 2 weeks ago and I was amazed. Catherine Zeta Jones and Sean Connery are amazing together. The plot is about a thief Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones who together try to steal billions of dollars from a bank in a foreign bank for there own benefit. What happens at the end? You'll have to watch it first. This movie will keep you at the edge of the seat! Guaranteed!

A Nice Romance Movie

This movie was a really good romance film. Connery and Jones were at there best in this film. I am a Catherin Zeta-Jones fan big time and I really liked this movie because of her. It has a really good storyline to back it up. At first I didn't know who stole the art work at the beginning of the movie and to tell you the truth I still haven't figured out who it was. That is why I wish that they would tell you. The one good thing that none of you will expect is what happens in the end. I am not going to spoil it for you but for those of you who have seen it you know what to expect right? HA HA HA leave the ppl who haven't seen it in suspense. It's a good movie so I suggest that u rent it.Mild Swearing Mild Sex Scenes Not much more

As silly as James Bond but without the humour.

Good drama is about suspension of disbelief. A lesson the director ofEntrapment should re-learn. I wanted to like the film. I wanted to getinvolved with the story and be carried away by the adventure, but alas astring of howlers kept yanking me back to the reality. It was one "as-if!" after another. As if an insurance clerk could create a wonderful computer rendering of aburgled office on her office PC.As if Sean could have a quiet chat with Catherine in a helicopter.Everyoneknow those things are so darn noisy talking is impossible without the useofthe intercom. (Incredibly she even managed a nap.)As if Scotland doesn't have thieves. I mean who would leave the door oftheir house unlocked, when it contains priceless art?As if - wait for it - a 10mm steel cable would break under the puny weightof Mr Connery and Ms Zeta-Jones. (If that were so, we'd be deafened by thesound of elevators crashing to the ground all over town as their cablessnapped.)And finally, who was that geek with the headphones directing operations atthe international settlement bank? (Which curiously, was trading over apublic holiday.)I know this is being a kill-joy, I know it's fiction, but somehow theimplausible simply becomes ridiculous when it's delivered in a such anearnest manner - and I'm sorry, I thought the acting was appalling. Toomanylines many were delivered to the accompaniment of a loudclang. At least with James Bond films you know they're taking the wee-wee.

Entrapment was wonderful!

I just saw Entrapment last night. It was extrmelly fun to watch. Connery and Zeta-Jones work very well togtether. Get ready for a surprise ending.

Totally great!

I've seen this 4 times now and it just gets better. Sean Connery is fantastic and as good looking as ever, he makes a brilliant art theif. It has loads of twists and turns and you're never quite sure who the bad guys are. Absolutly fabulous!

A VERY HOT ATTRACTION

THIS MOVIE WAS BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST I'VE SEEN. THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN CONNERY AND JONES WAS TENSE AND INTENSE. THE ACTION WILL KEEP YOU ON THE EDGE OF EVERY TURN, TWIST AND SUPRISE THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE. IT WAS TASTEFUL YET EXCITING. THE PLOT MAY GET YOUR ATTENTION,BUT THE SUSPENCE WILL KEEP IT!
