Not what I expected

This review is from: Elsewhere (DVD) Ok, so I only purchased this movie b/c it supposedly had Paul Wesley in it, so I wa a bit disappointed with the lame bit part of a character that he played, however the movie turned out to not be so bad, once I got over my disappointment.

A gripping saga highly recommended for teen to adult viewers

Teens seeking suspense and many an adult viewer looking for something different will find the movie ELSEWHERE an avid show. Sarah and Jillian have been long-time best friends although very different. Sarah is shocked to find her friend has started meeting anonymous men over the internet in search of excitement - and when Jillian vanishes, she and her friend search for their missing friend and the reason why nobody in town seems to want her found. Deleted scenes, audio commentary with the film's director and producer, and a featurette enhance a gripping saga highly recommended for teen to adult viewers.

Not great, but entertaining and way better than I expected

I started watching Elsewhere with a bit of mistrust, because I havealready tolerated too many juvenile thrillers lacking of any suspenseor ingenuity, reliant that the hypocrite independent "touch" will beenough for distracting us from the same predictable clichés we also seeon commercial cinema.Fortunately,Elsewhere did not fall on that, and itresulted to be much better than I expected. It has some importantfails, but it kept me entertained thanks to its competentscreenplay, solid performances and precise direction. The story from this movie sounds as a modern and juvenile version ofBlue Velvet.Needless to say Elsewhere does not reach that heights (itdoes not even aspire to) but it kept me interested because the story iswell structured. However,it has various forced elements,at the same timethere are a few occasions on which it believes it is more intelligentthan what it really is.Another fail is that this film has a few sceneswhich could have easily been deleted because they do not add too muchto the story.Nathan Hope's direction is solid because it is sober andthe movie has a good rhythm and tone. The performances arecompetent.Anna Kendrick is more famous for her appearance on thepopular film Twilight, where she did not have too much opportunity tostand out with her character. However, she brings a natural performanceand a good presence on Elsewhere.Tania Raymond does not appear toomuch, but her performance is solid and her brief chemistry with Kendrickis very good.In summary,Elsewhere is far from being a great movie and it is not verymemorable, but it kept me interested and entertained. So,I think thisfilm deserves a recommendation.

(2.5 STARS) Well-Acted But Conventional Thriller Starring Anna Kendrick

Low-budget thriller set in Goshen, Indiana, "Elsewhere" revolves around a pair of best friends Sarah (Anna Kendrick) and Jillian (Tania Raymonde). On Friday night, after being spotted by Sarah and a nerdish boy Jasper (Chuck Carter), Jillian disappears, leaving a strange message on Sarah's cell phone. Or is it that Gillian just left the town?"Elsewhere" is well-acted, keeps a good pace throughout, and has nice visual sense with crisp photography that captures the atmosphere of a small town, but for most of the fans of the genre, the truth is pretty obvious from the start with predictable materials. The idea of meeting someone on online social sites is not fully developed, and completely forgotten as the film reaches the conclusion, which is neat, but conventional. The film's biggest draw is of course Anna Kendrick, known for her roles in the "Twilight" franchise and "Up in the Air" opposite George Clooney. Her portrayal of Sarah and her friendship with the town's "bad girl" Jillian are surprisingly credible thanks to the solid performances from the players. But the lack of originality is still there, and as "Elsewhere" is a thriller, which is competitive and overcrowded genre. We need something more than good photography and acting, but "Elsewhere" misses every opportunity to be different. This is a mildly entertaining thriller that could have been better.

Okay...maybe

This review is from: Elsewhere (DVD) The movie was only okay. I also found that the cover art and credits were misleading. I'm one of those fans who will at least watch everything a favorite actor did and Paul Wesley is one of them. He's billed on the cover and in the credits, making you think he's got a key role in the film. He's in a total of 3 scenes. He was not enough of a part that I'd put him on the artwork or bill him as one of the three main characters. The boy who played Jasper should have received those spots. In other words, if your buying for Paul Wesley, don't waste your time.

It's not Anna Kendrick's fault

Elsewhere is a middling little concoction that's one or two ingredientsaway from being really good. It's like a Nancy Drew Mystery without amystery but with a serial killer. Writer/director Nathan Hope came upwith a lot of nice ancillary pieces and then assembled them around anempty core. The result is a promising beginning, an anticipatory middleand a disappointing ending.Jillian and Sarah (Tania Raymonde and Anna Kendrick) are teenaged bestfriends. Jillian is a rocker chick whose edginess hides a desperatedesire to get far away from a life she hates. Sarah is a good girl andthat's pretty much it. The character has the disposition of a coat rackand while Anna Kendrick makes a very cute coat rack, Sarah being such anon-entity becomes the biggest problem in the entire movie. After a stretch of time where Jillian and Sarah lounge around doingterribly typical teenage stuff, Jillian disappears. Sarah investigatesand with no help from her absentee mother, she turns to computer geekJasper (Chuck Carter) for assistance. The only clue is a video sentfrom Jillian's cell phone that shows the inside of a school bus andthen Jillian screams.Sarah eventually discovers that Jillian is only one of several missinggirls, but who is responsible? Is it Officer Berg (Jeff DanielPhillips), the creepy local cop? Billy (Paul Wesley), the high schooldickhead? Is it the unstable Patty (Shannon Holt), mother of a girl whovanished 5 years ago? Well, there's honestly not much of a puzzle tofigure out here. There really is no series of clues in this story thateventually lead to the identity of the killer. There are only a coupleof pathetic, obviously constructed red herrings inserted into thescript long after a reasonably astute viewer has deduced everything forhim or herself. I mean, the average episode of Speed Buggy or Jabberjawhad a more elaborate mystery to solve than this film. That narrative weakness isn't that aggravating because writer/directorHope emphasizes the characters and their interrelationships over plotdevelopments. The roles are all fairly clichéd - "girl acting out","jock jackass", "super strict father" - but they're well constructedclichés and the cast perfectly provides the formulaic performances forwhich they were asked. Except for Jeff Daniel Phillips, who appears tobe doing a bad Jack Nicholson impersonation all the time he's onscreen. And the connections/confrontations between the charactersachieve a certain believability. For example, you can feel the layeredfriendship between Jillian and Sarah and the long standing animositybetween Billy and Jasper.Unfortunately, the blankest and least developed character in Elsewhereis also the main character in the story. Sarah has the most lines andis in almost every scene, but has the least amount of personality inthe whole cast. That's not Kendrick's fault. She doesn't do a badacting job. There's simply nothing distinctive, individualistic orinteresting about Sarah. Having such a void as the leading roleundermines every dramatic aspect of the movie. It's not a fatal flawbut, geez, this thing would have been soooooo much better if Sarah hasdisappeared and Jillian had been the one to look for her.Elsewhere does look good, moves at a satisfactory clip and has severaleffective though quite illogical scares. Combined with more thanadequate acting in all but one case, that's usually enough for a filmlike this. But the emptiness of its plot and main character preventsElsewhere from being fully entertaining. It's certainly better thanmost of the crap out there, yet there's no need to go out of your wayto see it.

For a few thousand $$$, they could have bought a decent script.

It seems like I spend half my time watching poorly-produced andhorribly-acted movies with good stories and ideas, and the other halfwatching well-produced movies with zero imagination and stock storylines. "Elsewhere" falls into the latter category. The actresses (andactors) are cute and do a decent job. (Keep your eye on the "weird'girl.) The production values are quite good, with interesting, but notimpressive, cinematography. The whole movie is definitely notlow-budget in appearance or finish. But the story and script are just awful...retreads of thrillers donehundreds of times before. Trust me, you'll pick out the bad guy withinthe first few minutes of the movie. No hints are required. There isvery little tension in the movie, except for the few action sequences.Contrary to what you might expect from the tag lines, there isn't any"string" of mysterious disappearances. One girl disappears and, fiveyears later, so does another one. The cell phone texting angle has beendone many times before and much better, so no tension there. Thetypical (and stereotyped) red herrings abound. Finally, towards the end of the movie, you get a scene which ought tobe subtitled "Scriptwriters Got Tired Here" or "Director Couldn'tFigure Out How to Film This the Right Way." Two teens try to sneak upon a farmhouse where a (potential) bad guy is sleeping by creepingthrough a cornfield. Since they want to be stealthy, they (of course)bring along fluorescent tube lanterns. No, nobody would notice THOSEbeing carried through a completely dark cornfield at night, would they? And who would ever notice the bright light coming form the completelyunlit barn when the kids finally get there? Unfortunately, this istypical of the writing in this film.Well-made, but still pretty worthless and unexciting.

Paul Andrews 2012-05-07 15:10:29

Boring mystery thriller.

Elsewhere is set in a small US town where best friends Sarah (AnnaKendrick) & Jillian (Tania Raymonde) work in a small town cafétogether, however Jillian has far greater ambitions & has set herselfup an on-line internet account where she poses for naughty photo's &gets to turn anonymous men on all over the world. Jillain's exboyfriend Chris (Joshua Swanson is having a part & while Sarah wants togo Jillain says she has other plans & hints at meeting one of heron-line admirers cryptically called MrX, that night at the party Sarahsees Jillain arguing with Chris but thinks little of it until she getsa call from Jillain the next day asking for help. No-one seems to haveseen Jillian since the night of the party & Sarah becomes convincedsomething bad has happened to her best friend & sets out to playdetective & find out what has happened but at the risk of her ownlife...Written & directed by Nathan Hope I must admit right away that I thoughElsewhere was as boring & rubbish a mystery thriller as I could havebeen unfortunate enough to have to sit through, seriously this isreally bland & dull going for all of it's overlong 105 odd minuteduration. For a start it's painfully slow, even having watched it allit felt like nothing barely happened, the mystery surrounding thedisappearance of Jillian didn't do anything for me as she was fairlyunlikable to start with & the the two-bit nothing excuse of a lameending just makes you feel made at having wasted so much time on this.Basically it is never revealed what happened to Jillain, sure it makesclear that she is dead but the where & how are strangely absent withsome rubbish about a guy killing her because she wanted to make him dobad things, yeah that's the entire plot & the script never goes into itany deeper than that. Is that dumb revelation really worth investing somuch time in? No, it isn't & as someone who did invest the time I amfully qualified to say. There are various subplots that go absolutelynowhere like the sinister cop, Jillain's mum & Chris the boyfriend whoare all totally forgotten about & barely make any sort of impactbecause their screen time & character's are so limited. The dialogue isbland, the character's are poor & the plot is just a boring whodunitwith an extremely weak twist ending which doesn't really even qualifyas much of a twist since it's what most people will be expecting. There's a fairly strong anti-Internet char room type message going onhere as that is more or less blamed for Jillian's death (but what aboutthe previous victims?) & again religious fanaticism is also hung up asa great evil. Apart from a few drops of blood at the end there is zerogore here, I mean there isn't even a dead body seen & no-one is killedon screen either & it's just as dry as the Sahara desert. The wholefilm looks like an average made for telly flick with competent if blandproduction values & a totally forgettable small town setting. There isno tension, atmosphere, nothing builds-up & the cautionary moralisingmeans you'll wish you were elsewhere to...With a supposed budget of about $500,000 this has reasonable if blandproduction values. Apparently filmed in Indiana. The acting is alrightbut the cast can't help make this plodding nonsense any more enjoyable.Elsewhere is a tedious mystery thriller that is neither mysterious orthrilling, it's predictable & boring & not worth wasting your timewith. Get your entertainment elsewhere, but not this Elsewhere if youknow what I mean...

Interesting Mystery with a Touch of Horror

This movie was better than I expected, but only because it preyed on my fears of what teenagers really do when their parents aren't around! All of the teens in the film fit a specific cliche: earnest, hardworking, responsible Sarah (Anna Kendrick); class slut and wild child Jillian (Tania Raymonde); nerdy, earnest and cute Jasper (Chuck Carter); jerky jock Billy (Paul Wesley); timid, devout Darla (Olivia Dawn York); and every other archetype found in high school movies. While no one is a standout, the teen cast was able to fill their roles convincingly. The music in the movie is geared towards a teen crowd, but I really liked the song choices (mostly rock and punk). The last track played during the closing credits was very well chosen/written and kind of summed up the whole film in a song. The creepiest thing about this movie is the fact that the plot is actually really believable. Teenage girls have been going missing in a small town for years, but no one is looking for them. All of the girls were poor and went a little crazy with alcohol, boys, drugs or any combination of wild behavior. Only the town drunk and crazy woman (who is the mother of one of the missing girls, but didn't notice her daughter was missing for 3 years because she was too drunk) even notices a pattern emerging. When Jillian goes missing, Sarah makes it her mission to find out what happened to her. When Jasper asks Sarah why she keeps looking, Sarah's response is pretty chilling. She says that if most of us went missing, our parents would be looking for us, our siblings would be looking, the police would be looking and more. But Sarah is the only one looking for Jillian. Jillian is one of those girls who falls through the cracks. Everyone assumes that she finally got tired of living in a small town and ran away from home. The police won't start a search without a parent requesting it, and Jillian's mom is too drugged up and messed up to even make the trip to town. Sadly, this is true in our society today. There are a lot of young girls and boys who go missing and are never really looked for or no one even notices that they are gone. This is what gave the story its chill factor for me.So the plot is pretty believable and the details are pretty scary. Sarah's mom is involved in a big case at work and really doesn't know anything about her daughter's life. Jillian's mom doesn't care about her daughter so long as she brings home the money she earns working part time at the cafe. These girls are learning about boys, having sex, drinking at parties, and Jillian has a web page where she is known as "dirty girl" with explicit photos to match. It is really sad to see that no one cares about her and that she is allowed to run wild and do things that she probably would have regretted if she had the chance to grow old. The policeman that Sarah has interactions with is corrupt and threatens Sarah both physically and verbally if Sarah doesn't stop investigating Jillian's disappearance. The whole town doesn't even really notice and or care that Jillian is gone. The only down side to the story is that it was pretty easy to figure out who was kidnapping and killing the girls. Since Sarah did not have any police support, though, she had to connect the dots for herself and find the proof to go along with it, which took her a while. The last 10 minutes or so were pretty creepy and intense as Sarah and Jasper confront the killer. This is a decent thriller, nothing special or noteworthy, but a good movie to watch around Halloween time or just on a night when you feel like scaring yourself a bit.

At first i wanted more, but at the end i was fairly satisfied with this..

This isn't a horror flick. I wish it was, because making this kind ofsloppy crime-thriller is quite pointless. But still i managed to getthe best from it and be fairly satisfied when the credits started toroll, and i'm still not sure why...The start is usual, small town, group of teenagers, best friendsforever blah blah, bad parenting, a teen girl craving to escape fromher small town. That part was worse than i expected it would be, ithought with few somewhat likable actors they would make better"thrillerless" intro to this movie, they didn't, it was just plainboring talk, and that's what separates this kind of trash from 'I KnowWhat You Did Last Summer' kind of trash, better, more likable and morefamiliar actors with more entertaining events and dialogs. Anyway...itwas what it was, after the plot turned and the investigative part ofthe movie started, things started to get a bit better scene by scene, and i was quite pleased at one point, but the ending and conclusion wason the other hand simply lame and quite predictable, and that'ssomething you don't want in these kind of crime-thrillers...right?Overall, i'm still surprised by the fact that i'm rating this moviewith 6/10, but it was kind of satisfying after all, 106 minutes didn'texactly go down-the-drain or anything, but if you have anything betterto watch, go ahead and watch it, and keep 'Elsewhere' for some othertime when you feel bored and you have nothing else to watch, then youmight find it pleasing as i did.

2012-04-27 13:22:33

It's entertaining, but also cliche-ridden

Don't get me wrong, I actually liked this movie though it brought nothing new to the table. The weakness of this movie lies in its resorting to the usual cliches inherent in the genre, but it's strength lies in the credible acting and the well-paced plot. The story centers on Sarah [Anna Kendrick who played a bit role in Twilight as Bella's classmate], an average teen who works part-time in a diner. Her best friend Jillian [Tania Raymonde from Lost] is a sort of wild teen vamp who comes from a white trash background. Jillian is addicted to meeting men online with a provocative moniker "Dirtygurrl". When Jillian goes missing, Sarah tries to convince the local sleazy cop that something is wrong, all to no avail. No one seems to care about a girl that has been courting trouble for a long time, and it is left to Sarah, and her computer geek friend Jasper to figure out what really happened. Along the way, they have to deal with some teen bullies, a rather mysterious father-daughter pair, and a woman who has been tagged the town loony [her daughter disappeared years ago but she still puts up posters of the missing girl all around town], and of course exploring the world of online dating.Compared to some rather lackluster teen offerings lately such as "Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour" and "The Haunting of Molly Hartley", this is actually a pretty decent thriller with credible acting by the leads. The one thing I didn't care for were the cliches peppered throughout the movie [such as some scenes that reminded me of earlier teen classics like "Scream" etc], and some incongruencies [finding the weeks' long missing teen's cellphone still charged???], but other than that, I would rate this movie an entertaining flick for it's genre. It had some genuine moments of suspense that had me cringing in parts. There is no nudity or gore here. The DVD comes with extras such as movie trailer [I think this was a direct-to-DVD release], 22 mins of deleted scenes, a making-of feature, a photo gallery, and a director's commentary.

huh_oh_i_c 2012-04-26 23:25:42

Wholly unremarkable. Good title, worthless plot. For kiddies who are a tat too old for R.L. Stines "Goosebumps"? Like ... 6 months too old? 5? Maybe 3 months?

I'd warn you against spoilers but then, this film spoilers itself inabout five minutes into. Okay, so this is what is called a fullypredictable film. We see the two HUGE archetypical stereotypes infilmland, The Good Girl and The Bad Girl (Tania Raymonde is reallysliding), which they cared so little about they haven't even botheredto change their character names, much: The GirlScout and DaBitch. Justin case we didn't get it. In that aspect this film is just one notch, areal tiny, tiny, tiny, notch up from R.L. Stines "Goosebumps", but thatshow was GOOD in it's genre). Soooo, Bad Girl is a Slutty-ish Type of agirl which does Slutty Things like plaster herself all over the net inskimpy underwear (okay, okaaaay, it's NOT skimpier than yer regular ol'beach wear, but hey, you get the picture) She has some Facebook type ofinternetpage where she has like 800 'friends' ... per day. All male ofcourse. She has this super stereotypical Momma, who is Poor White TrashPersonified, who lives in a trailer(where else?) and who makes hermoney by selling Stuff-Nobody-Needs over the phone. Good Girl is alsoraised by a single mom, but this one has a good job and is ConvenientlyOutta Town For The Weekend, so the pleasantries can ensue. Whateverrrr.Anyways, then there's the Big School Dance (of course!) and Good Girlwants to hook up with Jock Type of an A-hole, but of course him beingthe Jock Type A-hole, he has to accuse her of being a prick tease whenshe doesn't immediately handle his schlong, and she is rescued by NerdyGeek Boy (who's also handy with computers, works in the frikkinglibrary(!!) AND he's on his way to Stanford!! Doesn't come anygeek-nerdier than that. So Nerdy Geek Boy rescues Good Girl from GropyJock Type A-hole, they go outside and they see Slutty Bad Girl fightingwith her Dumb Ex-Boyfriend who is of course ... The Mean AggressiveType! Then of course we know that Something Very Awful will happen toSlutty Bad Girl. Sure enough, Good Girl receives the obligatory grainyvideo on her cellphone indicating Slutty Bad Girl is in SeriousTrouble. Obviously, Good Girl call Da Cops and we'd expect the policeto Do Something, but since Slutty Bad Girl is Poor White Trash and haspeeeed off the Teen Molesting Amateur Local Cop, nothing is done aboutit, and nobody believes Good Girl. Then WEEKS go by, as Nerdy Geek Boy& Good Girl do their Hard-Nancy-Drew-Boy-teen-detective thing. All of asudden, in a desperate attempt to rescue The Story Line there entersStrange Religious Man, whose daughter, FreakyOutcastGirl turns out tobe the co-worker of Good Girl & Bad Girl. He's also IMMEDIATELY theMain Suspect, and the viewer is never brought in doubt about that. There's no intrigue, no multiple suspects, nothing. This is theBigBadKiller, and there's very little suspense after that. The filmtries to imitate When a Stranger Calls and Scream .... BADLY!!! Youkeep waiting for a plot twist but then the credits roll and you knowIt's All Over. The remarkable other thing is that they take a whopping 1h46 to tellthis!!

BronzeKeilani26 2012-04-25 04:12:57

Pretty Good!!! c-r-e-e-p-y

I loved the way this movie flowed and it held my interest all the waythrough! Very intense. It was surprisingly good and extremely creepy. The direction went in quite a few different ways with sub-plotscareening about, a suspicious acting cop, jilted boyfriends, analcoholic mother driven mad by loss, Internet-perverts, a creepy lonelyfemale teen, and an unsolved string of teen abductions, as thedescription of the film states. It also made it difficult to guess ifthere was a murder or not, and if so, who did it??? Something wasterribly wrong though and Sarah insisted on finding out! I guess that'swhat kept me wide awake. I was so tired before the film started, Idoubted I could keep my eyes open all the way through. It's ability tokeep us intensely guessing on a variety of things till the very end hadus so pumped up we started yelling at the screen *blush*. It's soembarrassing when a film brings all the emotions out of us, lol. TaniaRaymonde was very convincing in her role as the high spirited, wildJillian. Anna Kendrick, from the vampire movie Twilight, plays smalltown girl, Sarah, best friend to Jillian. She's the only one Jillianhas and only person who cares that Jillian hadn't been seen for a fewdays, eventually leading to weeks. Most of us never really payattention to other people's tragedies or issues until it affects usdirectly on a personal level. Sarah's search for Jillian brings hercloser to a distraught mother who had been putting missing posters upfor her daughter, missing for 5 yrs. The tiny community had lostsympathy for the mother after the first 3yrs. her daughter wentmissing. Everyone simply considered the girl either dead or a runawaywho was never returning...But, the mother's refusal to give up onfinding the truth behind of her daughter's disappearance catchesSarah's fullest attention once her best friend comes up missing, thansecrets about Jillian and the town begin to unfold!

A Tense, Suspenseful Missing-Person Drama

"Elsewhere" focuses on long-time best friends Sarah (Anna Kendrick) and Jillian (Tania Raymonde). Though both grew up in the same small Indiana town, the two girls are total opposites. Sarah is a topnotch student and athlete, while Jillian is an underachieving troublemaker. Both girls want desperately to break free from boring small-town life, but Sarah is shocked to discover that Jillian has started meeting anonymous men through the Internet in order to find someone who will show her some excitement. Soon after this revelation, Jillian disappears, leaving behind only her journal and a video message sent from her cell phone. Determined to find her friend, Sarah enlists the aid of Jasper (Jon Gries), resident computer genius, who secretly has a crush on her. Their search, however, leads them to discover why no one wants Jillian found. "Elsewhere" has elements of assorted thrillers in which innocents get involved in circumstances way above their heads. As the film progresses, suspense heightens and there are a few good scare moments. Ms. Kendrick does a competent job. You believe her as bright, level-headed, and thoughtful, and she does convey that all-important thriller movie ingredient -- escalating fear. Bonus features include deleted scenes, photo gallery, director and producer audio commentary, and a making-of featurette.

Nothing New, pretty predictable yet can be seen Once

ELSEWHERE – CATCH IT ( C+ ) Its one of those movies, you know what'sgoing to happen next and somehow you even know the killer too. At leastI Knew! I saw this movie for Anna Kendrick, as after Up in the Air Iwanted to see her all previous work, she was a Scene Stealer in RocketScience and she did a fine job in this movie as well. Other mentionableface, who has got some fame now is Paul Wesley, he was good in his badAvatar. By the way from the beginning I was wondering, who is thatsmart girl "Jillian "who gets killed. And finally after finishing themovie I checked on IMDb that she is the Alex Roussos from LOST. Ohh shewas really good as a bad girl this time though completely differentfrom her role in Lost, where she is all good Girl though also getKilled in that too. Overall it can be seen once with no expectations.

Far more entertaining than one expects

So many direct-to-DVD films, especially horror-thriller ones areterrible that when something like Elsewhere comes along, some semblanceof hope is restored. Writer-director Nathan Hope has constructed amystery that while fairly easy to figure out rather quickly, stillholds your interest throughout just to see how we get to where we thinkthe story is going.A lot of credit has to go to the cast. As the intrepid, intelligent, and likable lead, Anna Kendrick, now most known because of her role inthe Twilight films, does a great job of making us believe that shecares deeply about finding her missing friend. She portrays a sense ofscreen presence usually not seen from actors of her age. Based on herwork here, she, instead of Kristen Stewart, should have been given therole of Bella in the aforementioned vampire saga. It'll be interestingto see where Kendrick's career goes because she definitely haspotential. As the missing friend, Tania Raymonde has charisma, managing to makewhat easily could have been a despicably obnoxious character oddlylikable, important because we actually care about discovering her fate. She and Kendrick share a nice rapport as well, almost instantlybelievable as best friends in spite of their varying personalities.Strong writing and a dynamic cast make Elsewhere definitely a placeworth visiting.

dbborroughs 2012-04-17 12:54:42

not worth the effort

Small Indiana town has a problem, it teen girls are going missing, though no one really is paying attention. When Sarah's best friend goesmissing after meeting one of her on-line dates she's dropped into thetowns underbelly. Nominal horror movie is really little more than apsycho on the loose tale with some mystery and fancy trappings thrownin. Not really original, much of the teen cast looks to be 5 to 10years too old for their roles, Sarah's girlfriend seemingly about 15 to20 years too old.Unremarkable in most aspects this seems to be a throwback to a quieter gentler time where movies were inoffensive. I'm not afan and I doubt any one else will be too since the film, while welldone in numerous technical aspects (the film looks good), too manyother bits, including the plot, don't hang together. I would leave thefilm in its titled place and not take it home with you.
