An enjoyable movie but missing something...

I enjoyed the movie. Some of the jokes were funny, and it was only 1 hour and 16 minutes. The real problem with this movie isn't the crude humor, but the songs.I personally hate movies that just break out into songs every few minutes, and this is one of them. Basically I am assuming you can visit any other review for the synopsis, but if you hate songs then don't get this. About 25 minutes of it mabye is songs, just to let you know.

Urban Cinefile Critics 2012-05-23 10:11:03

The only real achievement that a movie as puerile and moronic as Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights can claim is that it risks giving both Christmas movies and animation a bad name.

Adam Sandler Strikes

The first thing you have to understand about "Eight Crazy Nights" is that it's a holiday movie. Simple as that. The main purpose of making it was to give low-class Americans a low-brow holiday movie to see, because it was this or "The Santa Clause 2". Also, to give Adam Sandler a new animated project and give him an excuse to write another "Chanukah Song". It did an okay job of that, but not too okay."Eight Crazy Nights" is a musical, and the songs pretty much fall flat and you get tired of Adam Sandler's unusually high Whitey voice after about 2 songs. The soundtrack sounds even worse and the only decent song is "Technical Foul".Adam Sandler does three voices, of Davey Stone, the town drunk and main character, Whitey Duvall, a neurotic, short, sqweaky-voiced, old nice guy who does volunteer basketball, and Elanore Duvall, Whitey's equally neurotic, short, old, and freaky sister. Mr. Sandler's humorous voices are, in fact, pretty good, but the rest of the cast (which includes Jon Lovitz and Tyra Banks) falls flat. The visuals and animation actually look beautiful, but I took points off because often it makes the unfunny and vulgar potty humor even more graphic. (Example:Whitey gets trapped in a Porta-Potti he's cleaning and it rolls down a hill. He comes out covered in...excretements.However, "ECN" certainly acheived what it was made to be (see first paragraph) and if you like that kind of thing, then go out and rent it.

Analysis of 8 Crazy Nights

Well, I'm going to start with one thing that did bother me about the movie. I went to the IMDB Boards, and nearly everyone said that they were disgusted by the "reindeer trying to free Whitey while licking off the ice, then getting crap in their mouths" scene was disgusting. And I whole-heartedly agree. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, my actual review can start. Around Christmas, many people (including myself) are in a happy, good-spirited kind of mood. It's a great time of the year, after all. Some people, however, get sick of the jolliness and merriment that stems from the Christmas season. And I believe that's where movies like "Bad Santa" come. "8 Crazy Nights" is similar to Bad Santa, in that is was released in the holidays and that it's crude. One thing that is different, however, is that "8 Crazy Nights" did not mock and pervert Christmas like "Bad Santa" did. I didn't mean to offend anyone who liked that movie. I know comedy can be a great thing, just...not displayed in that way around that certain period of time. Anyways, the thing people have to remember is that this is an Adam Sandler movie. If they've seen Adam Sandler movies, they should get the idea that this wouldn't be a completely wholesome Christmas/Hannukah movie. It's an honest mistake to make, however. It's animated, and it's being released around Christmas. Who wouldn't trust it?I think a lot of people said to themselves, "Well, Billy Joe likes Adam Sandler, Billy Joe likes animated movies, and Billy Joe likes Christmas. I think I'll take him to see that movie." The problem here is, there are some things that, when mixed, WILL cause some problems. Plus, not even animated things are completely safe. I mean, look at South Park! Good judgement is always an important part of movie-going.I also think a lot of people expected a hardcore Adam Sandler movie, and some expected a wholesome Christmas movie. I think neither groups got what they wanted, however. The movie was mixed with both. While the movie was mixed pretty well, a lot of people (including myself) expect extremes in moviews. Extremely funny, extremely sad, extremely scary...The movie itself was pretty good. There were some parts that I thought were offensive (see the reindeer scene for more details), but there were many that I liked the movie. In the movie, there were extremes. Hard-core Adam Sandler scenes. Scenes you would never see on Billy Madison. Then there were the low-key, Adam Sandler in a Christmas setting scenes. I think it was a pretty good movie, but a lot of people were expecting different. Parents were expecting Christmas wholesomeness. Adam Sandler fans were expecting hard-core Adam Sandler. (If I might make a note here, maybe the hard-core fans were expecting Adam Sandler to do extreme stunts, because the real Adam Sandler coudln't do them. But a cartoon could. Just a quick thought.) The thing was, the movie had both. And while Adam Sandler made a wonderful tribute to his Jewish heritage in the ending credits, not everybody can always get what they want.

Eight Crazy Nights

I couldn't tell you how this movie ends, we turned it off after the first half-hour. Not appropriate for children, not entertaing for adults. Our dog even left the room. Don't waste your money.

A sub-formulaic slap in the face to seasonal cheer.

Emma Cochrane 2012-05-15 21:37:35

It's about time that all the Christmas movies out there were balanced with a decent Hannukah movie. Sadly, this isn't it.

Sean Axmaker 2012-05-15 05:49:18

The innocence of holiday cheer ain't what it used to be.

J. C. Farrow 2012-05-14 23:17:39

Potty-mouthed enough for PG-13, yet not as hilariously raunchy as South Park, this strangely schizo cartoon seems suited neither to kids or adults.

This is a tough one

Okay a viewer can watch this and see it in one of two lights, not both.Either a person can watch this and say, 'that was the cruelest and mostdisturbing thing I've ever seen' or the other 'That was kind of weirdbut portrayed a message.' Okay I know what you are saying, a Sandlerfilm with a point, NO WAY! But no, this movie does have a message ofChristmas (or Hanukkah) and works out quite plainly if you payattention. The story goes like this. It's the holidays and Davey (Voiced by AdamSandler) is a mean-spirited, spiteful young man with a criminal record. His past was perfect until his parents died when he was 13. Now he'sback in court and about to be sentenced to jail when a kind-hearted,old man named Whitey (also voiced by Sandler) who offers to the judgeto have Davey perform community service as an assistant referee foryouth basketball.Davey thinks he's going to get off easy until Whitey begins to try andreform the young man. Davey does some horrible, and almost unbelievablethings to him but Whitey is ever kind and optimistic and even offersDavey a home once his burns down. Slowly Davey begins to change from atroubled young man to a kinder person. But all the while, memories formhis troubled past continue to plague him and cause him to be angry. Thewhole time, the movie keeps you guessing if he'll overcome the angerthat built inside of him with the help of Whitey or be engulfed in it.The whole film I absolutely hated Sandler's character. He was more thanangry, he was deranged and just plain mean to the old man who tries tohelp him and couldn't help but think 'man this guys horrible.' Butafter a second viewing I realized the film was trying to do something. The film echoes a cry for being kind and how good triumphs over evil,in the case of the film Whitey overtaking Davey's anger with kindnessand changing him. By the end of the movie I had gotten some good laughsfrom it and really felt better and realized how I should act around theholidays.Pretty much the film juxtaposes the two most opposite characters andshows what kind of affect they'll have on each other. It shows how whena person is kinder, they may not be as popular, but they'll be happy, they'll have friends, and they'll be set for life. This movie isn't aclassic in anyway. The film has some great laughs, the deer are great throughout the filmalong with Whitey's brother, Elanor (also voiced by Sandler)and willkeep you laughing until the last five minutes. The humor is a bit crudein some of the scenes and some of the antics Davey performs are crueland terrible. But in the end , the film shows how a person should beduring the holidays, how kindness is always the better choice, and howthe past shouldn't haunt a person.Eight Crazy Nights. Starring the voices of: Adam Sandler, JackieTitone, Austin Stout, and Rob Schneider.3 1/2 out of 5 Stars.

It didn't warm my heart, but it sure did give me a headache. What a horrible, horrible film.

Eight Crazy Nights

I love this movie very much because Of when the deer are farting out poo, and when he is in the Chinese Dragon which is a Restaurant and when he goes for the longest burp and Schneider says congratulation and Excuse Me while I go take Shower.

Hilarious

I loved this movie. It was hilarious and Sandler's fans especially will be cracking themselves up. I must admit that it is very crude at parts, so although the cover looks appealing for youngsters, it probably isn't suitable for the young ones. Although, I must admit that a lot of the jokes will go right over their heads. The message is good and the overall story has a message. I cried for Whitey, and I think any movie that moves a person to the point of crying is worth a watch. But it is HILARIOUS, from the triple breasted lady, to Whitey and his sister, to the deer (who's significance I really didn't understand).A must see for anyone with a good (but stupid) sense of humour and a desire for a couple of laughs!

From how I hear it...

This sounded like a VERY good movie when it was in theatres. Instead my friend and I watched Die Another Day. Adam Sandler has always been one of my favorites and I got a bit over excited about the previews and the fact that its animated. I havent seen it, but I know its a good movie. The CRUDE humor can appeal mostly to teens or children. Not much to adults. So maybe rent it if your looking for a big laugh or so. If you love this movie and seen it,then buy it. Its not like its a waste of money on a good movie like this.

Adam Nayman 2012-05-04 20:22:57

It ain't funny, it ain't good, and it ain't a step in the right direction for co-writer and star Sandler.
